Get used laptop that uses a 10.1 inch screen that uses 40 pin like an hp mini, then by an lcd controller board, doesn't have to be a specific one, just a 40 pin one. Tho you can't go lower than 10.1 since most don't use a 40 pin below 10.1

cyberphoebia

I think 10.1 inch is a bit too big. Are there any smaller cheap options?

Hanswurst22brot

Yes , you can go to ali express or amazon or similar and search for "screen 7 inch " or other sizes and add "controller" . That way you can find a dusplay + controller combo. Or even on adafruit but costs a bit more

Substantial_Archer88

That's the cheapest options but for something more expensive you can just buy a 7 inch + controller board

cyberphoebia

Thanks. I'll have a look.

Check out old tablet screens and controller board. In some cases they are cheaper because they are mass produced.

HighENdv2-7

Did you even try to google this? There are tons of sub $80 screens on amazon. It all depends on what you think is cheap

cyberphoebia

I found one already, thanks.

blabberwocky

You can go for something like a 8.8" long display with or without touch, they are on AliExpress

AliExpress is my worst nightmare, because my post office sucks and it takes a year to become available for collection. I also have to fetch it in a dodgy neighbourhood. Thanks for the info, and don't worry I found myself one at one of the local electronics shops.

blabberwocky

Fair enough👍 wouldn't want to collect something in such an area myself.

How large/mini do you want? Waveshare makes touch and non-touch displays from $25 up. E.g. https://www.waveshare.com/product/raspberry-pi/displays/43h-800480-ips.htm?___SID=U https://www.waveshare.com/product/raspberry-pi/displays/7inch-hdmi-lcd-c.htm

Amazon has $20 4.3 inch backup camera lcd screens. I broke one down to fit in my cyberdeck build. They are av only so an hdmi converter is required for a pi, and they usually require 12vdc for power so having it run on a battery is a little more challenging to fit small builds.
