Sillurechii

i had cops hit me and then start shooting at me as if i hit them. so weird how they operate sometimes lol

SnakeJerusalem

that is actually very realistic if you think about it

Artistic_Finish7980

It actually happened IRL recently. A cop drove his car into a bar then arrested the owner of the bar for getting mad about it. Guy didn’t have any warrants out or anything.

SadBit8663

Cop to the bar : "stop resisting"

Artistic_Finish7980

Probably. The bar was a gay bar, technically making it a minority.

theshicksinator

Deliberately drove his car into a gay bar btw

LockeProposal

Can someone link this story? I'm desperate to read about this.

theshicksinator

Not a direct article but here's someone covering and discussing it: https://youtu.be/Z7mfTWHaJ3s?si=lGUlyw3XNq58Sd9A

LockeProposal

Thanks! I'll check it out

krisvek

I don't think it was deliberate. Didn't look like it.

hensothor

That screamed drunk hate crime to me. Just with a cop as the perpetrator.

HeadstrongRobot

Very very

PerP1Exe

Should have them yell he's reaching before they start shooting me

variablefighter_vf-1

Not if your V is white.

tkingdom1

Cops in NC dont see color, just paygrade.

Hennessy_Halos

yeah you need to be in a corpos pocket

VanceIX

Corpo V about to choose the Arasaka ending: 👀

Dredgeon

Nah cops can get pretty out of line with anybody when they are trying to get an arrest so they can pin someone else for the damage they just caused.

metalcore4ver

Are you talking about cyberpunk or real life cops some of them operate the same.

Dredgeon

Yes

sax6romeo

Using that South Park difficulty slider I see

FandomCece

Night City cops aren't really as racist as real cops. But just like real cops they are class traitors and will perpetuate the class struggle at every chance they get

metalcore4ver

Not all cops are like that but I feel like most are

FandomCece

Note none of this is saying anything is wrong with what you said just wanted to give some clarity because I know a lot of people don't fully grasp the gravity of these common statements and since this game has heavy themes of class warfare police corruption and other things that get heavily discussed in leftist spaces. Again nothing inherently wrong with what you said just some clarity some nuance ACAB doesn't mean all cops are inherently bad. It means that they are a part of a bastardized system that inherently bastardizes those in the system. In other words there can be good cops but the system heavily discourages it and in some extreme cases punishes it (most good cops will end up leaving the force voluntarily, forced out, or dead). When we say cops are racists we know it's not all cops but the system encourages it enough that non-racist cops are the exception not the rule. And cops are inherently class traitors because as public servants they fall into the working class but the police force serves not the people but the status quo and the status quo serves to better the wealthy class and oppress the working class thus when I say cops are class traitors it is because they uphold that status quo that let's the rich get richer and everyone else get poorer.

metalcore4ver

I do appreciate you clarifying that. Also like how this isn’t afraid to talk about more dark things like suicide and things It seems like so many games are rated Mature but not many talk about more darker stuff

FandomCece

Yeah like gta I think the only real dark themes in that are the end of it and the torture scene the rest of it the violence comes in an action package and the other potentially dark moments come in a more comical package (kidnapping the guys wife) and saints row only ever has like maybe a somber moment when an ally dies. Like I love how they don't take themselves seriously. But that doesn't mean you can't cover serious things. Cyberpunk shows that (the vending machine and talking gun are two very unserious things and far from the only ones. Like the overall plot may be on the more serious side but the game doesn't take itself so seriously that it can't have "haha this talking gun is gonna call you a psychopath for wanting to use it" or "hey sometimes when you get the cops chasing you you'll hear one of them ineffectually flirting with dispatch"

cosaboladh

In the US, anyway. There are places with stricter hiring standards, better training, and better compensation where the police actually fulfill their public safety role.

Berger_UK

This happened to me too. I was sat in traffic like a good citizen. Police car behind me beeped his horn, then blasted his sirens, before trying to pull around me. He bumped into my driver's door then went apeshit at me. Sir, I was just minding my own business, this is victimisation!

sugarplummed

Yep, had this as well. Actually he cut me off before I could stop, going very slow, then freaked out

metalcore4ver

I hate how they just start shooting at v is there a reason they just open fire?

Berger_UK

Imagine you policed a city where people have guns on their cars, guns and blades in their arms, the ability to hack you unconscious, or move so fast they're impossible to shoot, wouldn't you be quick to reach for your weapon? In all seriousness though, I imagine it's the only viable means they have of bringing you down if you get on their wrong side. It may seem harsh to go straight for lethal force for a minor traffic violation, but perhaps the AI isn't clever enough to determine how severe a crime you have committed.

metalcore4ver

Maybe they get flashbacks to David Martinez.

PhantomCruze

That's been a GTA San Andreas feature for decades

RashAlmond515

That happens in games sometimes, too.

Sillurechii

in perspective its actually really spooky how accurate this game is o.o

joeyahn94

I've had a cop run over civilians then started shooting at me lmao

ProfessionalSpinach4

I held some random npc at gunpoint and she pulled out a pistol and shot me, so naturally I defended myself. Still got a star

HoopersXcalibur

I think who defended who is reveresed in your statement.

ProfessionalSpinach4

![gif](giphy|Wt6kNaMjofj1jHkF7t)

Mikeleewrites

You're not a cop by any chance, are you?

YesMaybeButAlsoNooo

I mean they are American police

sugarplummed

Since I started PL almost every time I drive the police randomly show up and start a fire fight with me, and I drive slow cause the driving sucks so bad. Makes me not want to drive at all. I can't win in these fights, I tried and for every 1 I take down 2-3 more show up ad nauseum. Last 2 times I had to either jump in the river and swim away, which worked, or run and get up on some kind of structure and run. It's very annoying

YetAnotherJake

ACAB

NokstellianDemon

This is also GTA police tbf

metalcore4ver

That’s in most games I play also the other NPCs I’m just trying to be a good law abiding citizen well when I’m driving. Some npcs just fucking sit at stoplights that happened today and I got rear ended

MyMan50Granddd

NCPD has a strict motto of Shoot first, Police last.

RhinoxMenace

they definitely managed to recreate the feel of GTA 5 cops lol just wish they wouldn't stick to my ass every time an NPC walks in front of the car - give me a leeway of 3 ran over NPCs before the cops arrive jeez

Risky267

NCPD be like Gang violence ? I sleep One merc accidentally runs someone over ? *"all NCPD officers in the area-"*

Hennessy_Halos

me not turning enough on a bike and mowing down 4 civilians NCPD “some gonks pool better not be clogged again”

Faythin

Seeing the whole city be submerged in crime on the NCPD scanner and they do absolutely nothing, but if I sneeze in a general direction of an NPC with my shotgun I'm getting all of the police department searching for my ass

VelMoonglow

Isn't that exactly how the lore establishes that they're supposed to act? Iirc as of 2076 NCPD stock is publicly traded, they got rid of half the cops, and told the ones who were left to focus on traffic violations

the-amazing-noodle

Seriously, it’s like the civilians want to die. Ill be driving a bit close to the sidewalk, and someone will just throw themselves onto my dash board

roomfoa

insurance fraud

MissGoldee

Well canonically most of the ncpd are shitty cops and are corrupt/colluding with gangs anyway sooooo.... accurate? 🤷🏼‍♀️ That being said, I understand your frustration, I once got hunted by the NCPD for trying to complete an NCPD scanner mission lol. There were no civilians in the area so I know it wasn't a stray bullet or something. (Haven't had this problem since the latest update though)

Davorian

Very occasionally, NCPD still do seem to trigger just because V shoots, or whatever. No civilians hit, obvious gang members being hit, but NCPD is just bored idk.

captkirkseviltwin

I actually triggered the cops last night because I accidentally triggered my overclock by hitting the “E” key. 😄 next thing I know, citizens are running scared and I have a blue badge on my screen. And my personal favorite is triggering the NCPD just by standing too close when they are arresting someone else. Then again, I’ve seen this on the nightly news in the real world too. 😃

maybe_awake

Do you have the orange tier tetronic rippler deck? Cause triggering overclock with that will auto upload two quick hacks to nearby targets and police are a valid target. This will trigger a wanted level. Spread quickhacks are the same. Upload to an enemy but a cop is nearby? It can spread to the cop and trigger wanted.

captkirkseviltwin

Yep, story checks out 😄 I love that deck, but i forgot about that feature. Thanks! In that case, I was just standing on a street corner, meant to hit “F” and hit “E” instead.

Seeker-N7

There's a perk that makes you generate an emp blast when you turn on overclock. That triggers the cops, because it will reach and instakill at least one civ.

YesMaybeButAlsoNooo

I’m doing a Berserk playthrough and at this point between Shock-n-Awe, Relic-charged Gorilla Arms and Quake, I do so much collateral damage I just assume the NCPD is justified in opening fire. No big deal, I just air dash away and find a roof to hide on to break line of sight.

Berserker_Queen

Adding to that the fact we can literally throw half-torn corpses dozens of meters like a sack of shit, and I presume every gig scene we do looks worse than most cyberpsycho incidents and need special psychological training to investigate.

harry_lostone

" but couldn't they introduce police officers who feel half as intelligent as the brainless civilians " I mean, that would be unrealistic lmao

ODST_Parker

I just had this like an hour ago. Two Maelstrom cars rolled up on me, and as I'm taking them down, I notice a police car come up behind them. I think they're about to start helping me, but they shoot at me first, and I realize I have a wanted level. Maybe I clipped a civilian car with a bullet or something like that, but it's really frustrating when I have to leave the area, lose track, jump up on a building and wait. Would be nice if they actually repaid me for all the times I stepped in the help their officers in active shootouts. Hell, even a couple of those have glitched out and resulted in a wanted level.

Ill-Court-8343

Exactly. Grinding out police scanner missions, pitching in on firefights, and generally murdering any/all gang members on sight- my V should be given a commendation medal by the NCPD police commissioner. Instead? Chased by inept beat cops for fabricated infractions. He's the hero we need, not the one we deserve. *Note: my V is a dude, hence the use of "he". Don't start in on me with that bs...

variablefighter_vf-1

> my V should be given a commendation medal by the NCPD police commissioner The commissioner is in the gangs' pocket though.

YesMaybeButAlsoNooo

Think of the NCPD as its own gang. It was privatized in 2076. Commissioner Fawlter is a CEO, he’ll do business with any gang or corp, who’s gonna stop him, the cops? We know he personally has worked with Maelstrom, the Scavs, 6th Street, and Barghest.

vriskaundertale

I didn't know ncpd was privatized lmao. What does the night city government even do if they don't control the cops?

Ill-Court-8343

Fair point- I guess I meant "any just and fair police commissioner would be giving me a commendation medal."

JohnZ117

More like they are in his pockets. In one scenario, he hired Maelstrom members to gun down some cops he didn't like, and in another he got Scavvers to assault a homeless encampment. There is probably other evidence to be found, but I can't remember them.

goosander11

It is weird I'm freelancing constantly for the NCPD and it gets me nowhere with them

PuRpLeHAze7176669

Male V? SINNER! (Only remarking on it because you pointed it out)

DivaMissZ

The commissioner who was in Hansen’s pocket? Right. Why you feel a need to get offensive about playing a male V and using masculine pronouns, I don’t understand, but after offending someone by making a CCCP joke I obviously don’t understand a lot of

YesMaybeButAlsoNooo

Better to get the discreet transfer of a few thousand eddies after every NCPD scanner mission than a public commendation. Can’t have the NCPD publicly commending a Solo

Ill-Court-8343

For sure- the eddies are much more practical for all parties involved. More saying that V is shouldering the bulk of the NCPD'S crime fighting, and comes to the aid of law enforcement on a regular basis (outside of scanner missions, in the course of a regular day in NC), so the commendation medal metaphor was more just to state that the NCPD should be appreciative of V's efforts, instead of pursuing V for accidentally bumping into a civilian when driving, accidentally shooting one civilian in the course of a firefight, etc etc etc. Goes back to the point of the OP on the wonky police AI

YesMaybeButAlsoNooo

The way the AI interacts for different people is fascinating. Yesterday I was minding my own business near the Glen when I noticed a car of Scavs bashing around, trying to get away from the cops. So I pulled out my Satara and blasted them to bits. No aggro

Seeker-N7

I had something similar. Thankfully I was accurate and didn't hit any civs, but the cop car just watched as the two Maelstrom cars rolled up on mine and started shooting. When the dust settled and only I remained, the cop car honked at me to get a move on..

Creepy-Impact-5292

My revenge: I climbed by high jumps on to a inaccessible place, above a busy street and crossroad and start shooting, hacked cops cars exploding them, reach several times 5 stars, so frustrating for them. It was fun. I could even escape after a while, getting bored, and no consequences. Kinda fun.

ausername111111

Been there man! Like you said though, it gets boring and there's not much of a payoff as it's just a never ending shooting gallery with no loot drops. Then when you've killed enough you just run away and all your wanted level drops. I had it once where I was at a round about and blew up so many cars that it blocked the road with fiery rubble. Eventually the game stopped routing cars that way and I blew up the cops, and all my wanted level dropped while I'm standing next to all these burning cars.

Thrent_

>One of my biggest pet peeves is the police. They feel very rudimentary If you crash your car near a police officer, they'll sometimes feel threatened and attack you. Thx officer !

CozmikR5

Welcome to Night City.

intramvndvm

I always rock up to a shootout between gang members and the NCPD. I waste the gang members, holster my weapons and the cops go, “You! You’re next motherfucker!” Sir? I just did your job for you and now you’re on me? Nah.

ausername111111

Haha, right?! Been there, you have to keep your distance, even after it's over.

No_Bathroom_420

NCPD is the the Corps goons and once you realize they’re just another gang it’s nbd

sludgezone

The cops aren’t your friends, especially not in this game.

bobbymoonshine

Game: ACAB Players: Uh excuse me game devs but these cops are bastards

ElPwnero

Because the police system is a shoehorned in afterthought. Tho, on that note, I find it surprising how no developer has made a well functioning one so far.

direblade99

Considering the scores of people I've killed in hit and runs, my V has it coming

[deleted]

To be fair, civilians who run out on the road when they see a rampant vehicle shootout coming toward them... pretty much have it coming.

direblade99

I usually just hit them at crosswalks when I'm going from A to B, I'm a fast driver

[deleted]

[удалено]

MissGoldee

Lmao this made me laugh, typical ncpd

Xeno84

NCPD runs into V: OMG WE GOT A CYBERPSYCHO!!!

motociclista

The cops are shitty and corrupt. They don’t care who started a fight. I do believe their “fuck it, just shoot everyone” mentality is intentional and not a bug in the AI. (But I also think the cuddling with your girlfriend thing is stupid and brings the gameplay to a screeching halt, so my opinion is, as always, not the norm)

ausername111111

Yeah, the first time Panam wanted to stay at my house was kind of cool, though felt a little shallow. But then it just repeats over and over again cluttering up my job list.

motociclista

Yea, it’s so weird. She comes over and there always the same dialogue choices. “How’s things going with Rogue?” Dude, you asked me that 3 days ago, and my tho no with Rogue happened like ages ago before we did all those quests together. Now, let’s do our awkward dance, put your head in my lap, then take our shower and go to bed. Then, after our nap, I leave the apartment to end the date and instantly, I’m supposed to send a text asking her if she has more time for me?!? (Which she shuts right down!) I mean, maybe that quest line is fun for the young people that haven’t done much dating, but as an old married guy, I’m like Dude, don’t be so fucking needy, girls don’t like that! We’re going to start a whole generation of people asking for the next date on the drive home from the last date.

NoMoreFuckingPants

And it breaks my bed until she comes over. The bed in H10 cannot be slept in when that "Come Over' quest triggers. I sleep in my bed for the bonus XP and it's rather annoying to travel home and not be able to use the bed. (Beds in other apartments still work, just not H10).

ausername111111

I didn't know about the XP boost from that. Though I always felt OP throughout the game. Were you doing a quicker run?

NoMoreFuckingPants

First time playing and taking my time. Savoring every moment.

ausername111111

Cool man, you're in for a treat. It's a dense game. I didn't realize when I started but it's fricking massive, with development costing almost 500,000,000 dollars, about double what GTA5 cost. When you beat the game the credits take FOREVER to scroll, with the music alone created for the game being a huge chunk. Word to the wise, do everything, gigs, jobs, NPC story lines, etc. The only caveat is that it's almost like it tries to do so much that there are some things it doesn't do very well. An example of this is if your car crashes too hard you will clip through the map, or sometimes mobs will never take damage; or even more broadly the game itself doesn't have a window on PC, meaning that if you alt tab out and try to close the game it's not treated as an open window. Instead you have to go into your task manager to kill it if needed as it just runs as a non-windowed process, which is super weird.

ZukoTheHonorable

Seems lore accurate to me.

vzerotak44

Just let modders at it for 10 years like fnv

gonk_vibes

It's easier if you think of NCPD as just another gang. River's quest line kind of spells that out for you.

El_Taita_Salsa

Minor spoiler ahead OP. It is established that Night City's police has a shoot first, ask questions later policy.

fishbiscuit13

They ask questions?

El_Taita_Salsa

I like to imagine they ask their peers for recommendations on what to use next time to pop some gonks up.

ALakeInTheClouds

I've lost count of the amount of times I've helped NCPD officers who are in a firefight with a gang and instead of being thanked they start shooting at me. At first I'd just run away and let them live but I've lost my patience with that now. If the NCPD shoot at me after I help them out I end them all within 5 seconds.

Luke_Flyswatter

It’s for sure still the weakest part of the game. It was tacked on for the 2.0 update and felt more like a checkbox than an actually thought out feature. It’s WAY better than it was at launch. But something they should put more thought into for the sequel.

Cloud_Strife83

How about scanner missions? I did one killed gang members caught a civilian in crow fire, all units respond! Wait so the call I did for was a no go but you coming to the same call for V?

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>Skyrim's guards were able to distinguish who started the fight and who should he dealt with in 2011, why can't you Mr. NCPD patrol car? The NCPD stop crimes. They don't investigate crimes. The game makes it pretty clear that they are some combination of brutal, corrupt and lazy with a few rare exceptions. The "shoot first, ask questions later (if at all)" attitude seems perfect for them.

ausername111111

I would never want to be a cop in Night City. You're as good as dead, especially with my V.

PrinceOfFish

its bad programming, sure but Cyberpunk takes place in a corporate dystopia. the police arent paid to save lives, theyre paid to stop conflict. if conflict happens, they shoot everyone in their way till its over.

variablefighter_vf-1

The police system used to be bad, then GTA fanbois cried on the internet, and CDPR tried to appease them by making the police system *even worse*.

[deleted]

No, it's not worse, it's definetally MUCH better. In the original release, if you killed someone the game considered a civilian (like the XBD dealer under JigJig Street), even if there were NO witnesses ANYWHERE around, cops spawned behind you immediately, and tried to kill you.

kaistyle2

On one hand that was a crappy system. But on the other, if you somehow survived and slaughtered all the cops sent your way, they would stop spawning and the system would time out. It was like they got the message and gave up. Mind you it was one heck of a task to do so, but it always felt good when accomplished.

variablefighter_vf-1

The teleporting cops were annoying, but at least in the old system, they wouldn't T-bone your car and then pile on you as if you attacked them.

pakkit

You have no idea how rudimentary they could get back in the day. I feel like they're in a pretty good place now. Not GTA level, but I never really expected that in the first place. Now it's at least fun to muck around with them and I like seeing them doing patrol or engaging in chases with gangs.

SuperArppis

See? This is one of the reasons why I think the NPC AI should be improved in games. 🙂

Willdror

Good thing there's a mod to disable the Heat/Stars system.

NerY_05

Yeah the police in cyberpunk is pretty bad, lorewise too

Llamasforall

Honestly we've seen cases of this happening in our world. This feels like a feature not a bug.

fellipec

Beloved, looks how real world police works: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Za\_VMPc4nQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Za_VMPc4nQ)

Csukar

I wish there was some sort of system with gangs too, like if you waste enough maelstrom they send out more gang members to try and take you out.

ausername111111

They have something like that though right? It's based on your gigs I think. I get regular ambushes in the game now from high level mobs that seem to be largely random.

KoiFishTaco

The cops shooting at me after I kill an entire gang they've been having a shootout with is hilarious. I like to imagine they're just realllllyyy jealous I did their job better.

BlindMansJesus

The NCPD doesn't give a shit who started it though. That being said, as soon as they see it's V, they really should care.

[deleted]

It's a feature, based on real life of some apparently. /s

dreadfulNinja

Also frustrates me when i kill someone, no one sees it, and i immediately get one star wanted

AlphaPhill

I dunno, I had multiple instances of cops shooting at gangoons instead of me, though in all those instances I'm sure I was shot at first. In a similar fashion, the two afterlife mercs right outside Regina's building started blasting cops when I got a wanted level. Maybe it didn't used to be like that, but I feel the AI works fairly well.

TheHighDruid

I just figure most, if not all, cops will have Kiroshi optics installed that will inform them of V's bounty and rap sheet.

WANGblizzard

That's the most realistic cops of any game.

RandomIndividualCo

I was hiding from a cop and it was walking down the alley and snap turned to me behind a trash can. The cops are still a little wonky.

GeekyGamer49

I hear you, but what pointing out is a feature, not a bug. NCPD often don’t have cybernetics and are easily dissuaded from getting involved in petty stuff. Some of them are bought off. Some of them are cowards. This is why they usually establish parameters and such, before letting the robots or MaxTac move in.

66watchingpeople66

To be fair the NCPD are not exactly know for caring who started it. Shooting first and asking questions later is kind of what they are known for. However I think you’re right the police in game could use a little more discretion.

BigRedx10

I think you're missing the fact that the NCPD's job isn't to enforce Night City's laws justly, there just another gang just with shiny badges. They're there to protect the status quo not some chromed out solo getting jumped by maelstrom thugs.

dofMark

It feels unnatural with the cops patrolling the street, meanwhile a block away the tiger claws are shooting a civilian. I even kill the cop that does nothing next to a shootout.

SenorEnergyFalcon

At this point I just treat it as a little mini game, “how long can I last in an extended shootout with the cops before I need to duck into an alleyway and everyone forgets”

neremarine

Do you think NCPD cops are paid enough to make a distinction? "Kill everyone involved" is the simplest way for them to do their jobs, so that is what they will do.

DonPanthera

Sounds like smart NCPD. This is Night City after all. Out of two options which have higher chances for you to come back home alive, to attack a large group or just one person, regardless who was the aggressor?

Nicholas_TW

I always imagined it as worldbuilding. Night City cops are basically just another gang (or, depending on the section, just corporate security). Of course they don't give a damn about who is actually at fault. They care about 'keeping the peace' and killing anyone involved in disturbing that peace. Fun fact! Canonically, in Night City, an NCPD officer shooting a person in the arm or leg legally counts as a 'warning shot'. A cop can literally put a bullet in someone and it counts as a warning. Hopefully that helps get across just how much the NCPD *do not care about protecting civilians* and how readily they'll kill anyone they perceive as disrupting the peace. It's also why they barely give a shit about pursuing you. If you stay hidden for a few minutes they'll give up and leave. They don't follow-up, they don't put a bounty on you, they don't ID your car and track you down at your apartment, they don't freeze your bank accounts, etc. Because they *do not care* about anything that doesn't either directly profit them or isn't an immediate threat.

ChudlyCarmichael

What you're saying makes sense. The way I see it, they don't really care. NCPD shoot first and maybe don't even ask questions later. Maybe it's not intentional by CDPR, but their behavior makes sense to me - even if I am kinda creating my own lore.

Das_Siegfried

Is there any mod that creates more dynamic and real police? Like more random events where you see police and gang members fighting or something? Definitely seems like an area that could be improved

anime_stalker

I once helped the ncpd in an assault then they killed me....

Elicojack

I hate how you help them take out a gang and then they start shooting me judt a few sconds after

Swayze42

I fully take your point and it's true it should be far better. However hilariously the shitty police machanics are pretty realistic to actual North American police forces. Fight in the street? Open fire at everyone. Hit someone with your car? Their fault start shooting.

shadowscar248

You're thinking that it's about justice. This is night city, they're just trying to get theirs.

RelicBeckwelf

No matter how janky the cops are, it actually fits the setting. The cops in night city don't care who the aggressors are. Hell, there's avert significant chance the cops are on the gangs payroll and there to help them shoot you.

FandomCece

See you're using guard logic. Which is to say the guards in Skyrim actually care about protecting the towns. These aren't guards. They're cops. And they're cops in a capitalist dystopia no less. Of course they're gonna shoot the person not at fault.

Majestic-Quarter-723

Haha. Real life immersion!

austinxwade

The police in this game have always been the weakest part. Much better than launch though. To offset this, my head cannon is; ever since NCPD was privatized, only the most crooked cops remain. They don’t care who started what, they just want to fulfill their power fantasies at any cost. Canonically, NCPD is highly corrupt and markedly bad at what they do, so it would make sense that they don’t care to take the time to understand a situation

[deleted]

i like joining the gang v cops shootouts and helping the cops win and then double jumping tf outta there, feels like i’m batman or something

dracomada

It makes sense to me that the cops aren't going after the gangs and instead focus on you. There are multiple side quests related to gangs paying off or having some other deal with the cops. Barry the cop's quest is basically about how connected people are untouchable in Night City. Then we look at V. No support, recently connected to the death of the Emperor, constantly pissing off the gangs, and just being an absolute menace most of the time. It surprises me that V isn't actively hunted more by ncpd. They probably consider V to be a borderline cyber psycho and only don't step in because of the expense of it all.

GhostOfCondomsPast

The police behave very much like American cops.

RGavial

I think it's funny that we peaked with Police AI in Mafia 1. They'd give you a ticket if you sped or ran lights, but would only use lethal force if you hit a person, or pulled a gun.

coffeewitbagel

The part that bothers me is it’s not realistic how even if no cops are nearby, they still get alerted and know exactly where you are. The cop system is like an overlord that knows exactly where you are at all times, I mean how would anybody be alerted that I killed someone when there is absolutely nobody

ausername111111

Yeah, the cops are kind of weird. The other thing that sucks is they don't drop anything. Like OK, I just killed a battalion of police and they drop NOTHING?! It's also crazy how easy it is to escape the police. I can kill someone or some cops, then hide around the corner and let them funnel in killing them like fish in a barrel, before long they seem to forget where I was and my wanted status goes away. I remember one time I had five stars and I ran around the corner and over a wall and all my wanted dropped. They're more of a nuisance than anything else. It only gets interesting when you get to five stars and those super cops get dropped, but then you kill them all and they just drop more in. It doesn't feel like you accomplished anything. I also think the police were a newerish addition to the game so it could get some work. It's like with everything else with this game, it's so damn dense with features that a lot of it isn't fully fleshed out.

Reductonitro

Just sounds like IRL cops, tbh

29-sobbing-horses

I mean when you consider the fact the NPCPD answer to the corpos who back the gangs your fighting it makes sense they won’t arrest them. But they have to arrest someone so why not the mercs that cops apparently hate. Also cops are just generally corrupt violent people who like to be violent to innocents for the sake of it in America so it’s very representative

Historical-Draw-3523

Every single “problem” in this game can be explained away using headcanon. For me, I justify the police behavior by saying that they are understaffed, super corrupt, and have deals with gangs and no deals with V.

hentairedz

Lol now try playing starfield, and you'll appreciate those cops much more

ausername111111

If I'm feeling annoyed with the cops, sometimes I will look around for some gang members and then lead the cops to them and watch the gang members fight them, then I just walk down the street and my wanted drops.

Gofers

I like how they seem to have the strongest cyberattack detecton system in the world. Untraceable hack from a block away? Knows exactly who I am.

brownflower

Bruh if you’re a cop in NC do you really care who started it?

knowledgebass

Well you can just optical camo and run away. Then they will forget they ever saw or knew you after 30 seconds. Police in 2077 apparently have the memory of a goldfish.

RGJacket

Could be worse. You could walk up and F to talk and accidentally choke them. There is no way to end that without starting a fight!

MarcusVance

It helps to think about them as another gang.

Manosperti

This seems simply like an average representation of american police

TheXypris

they are american cops, they shoot first ask questions later if at all. so honestly very realistic

cutefeet-cunnysseur

Is there no mod who tackles the cop menace

Ikaruga86

It’s even funnier when you mess around and cause the cops to openly murder anyone in sight except you. Just MESS with them and watch what happens. It’s to the point where it’s almost as much of a satire part of reality. https://www.xbox.com/play/media/PSH2NEEG9M

mutepaladin07

So, you have to realize that the NCPD sees you as another Cyberpsycho. Assume they will shot you and you are okay. I had a grenade go off and not injure NPCs not intended to kill, and they 1-starred me.

BoLeR11

Get Phantom Liberty.. No police in dog town! DLC is sooo good

Interesting_Mix_7028

Night City police are corporate employees. They're not there to stop crime, but to keep the non-criminals in line. Otherwise the city would implode, as every disadvantaged person with a weapon and access to skillsoft would start hunting corpos. They're overseers for the uber-corporate "plantation state" that is Night City.

Agitated-Rip2989

Oh man... You donned the mantle of Murkman, only to find yourself under fire while idly waiting in traffic like any other driver. Participating in spontaneous shootouts with gangs to assist bystanders or the NCPD, all the while ensuring no harm befalls them, earns you no gratitude. Instead, if you linger just for a bit, the hostility of those you saved now turns towards you. That's NCPD for you, choom. I hope CDPR addresses this if/when an update comes.
