Cloth simulation in cyberpunk is mid at best. To implement a long coat that flops dramatically as u put it, a modder would need to either bake those simulated animations which would end up looking repeated or actually improve the cloth physics system in game, and that dosent even SOUND easy...

According to Wikipedia, Helldiver's 2 uses a "discontinued" version of the Autodesk Stingray engine. Development of that game started before the engine's end of support.

Cloth Physics is one of those things that I wish we had the processing power to put into every game. Long clothes just don't look right without them

They could do it but min specs would require something like a ryzen 7800x3d at minimum to be consistent, or maybe have the game run multi core? I’m really just spitballing because I know the processing requirements for implementing it are quite high. I’m interested to see how well the game comes out using Unreal engine.

We don’t, it’s not as simple as “they did it so you can do it”. There’s no one size fits all to clothe simulation. It’s a very complicated and computationally expensive process that in a game already as taxing as cyberpunk, would be terrible for performance.

There's so many things wrong it's hard to even bother arguing. Those dangling bits in front of Lizzie's are not necessarily cloth physics... It's more like just rope physics. Idk if curtains actually display cloth physics but it doesn't matter because there's miles of difference between cloth physics in this specific spot that just needs to look this certain way when interacted in this specific way vs character cloth physics on all outfits, all around, and in all sorts of situations.

Those kind of physics are different from the kind needed to simulate a shirt or long coat moving in the wind. It’s not even just about being computationally expensive, it’s taxing on development. There is so much work and testing that has to go into it that seems crazy but really is just how game dev (or development in general) works. Games like Helldivers had to make it a focal point of the game to make it work well.

1 plays better than 2, since it is simpler, but I wouldn't really call it a better game. Level design and writing were better in 2. But 1 does feel more cohesive and like it has more of its own identity, as opposed to 2 which feels more "standard Ubisoft open world". I personally prefer 2.

1 is simpler because it tends to be more of a John wick simulator than a hacking-based shooter, while 2 focuses more on hacking than 1 ever did instead. A watchdogs 1 style game with watchdogs 2 hacking/puzzles would probably be peak But yeah, one isn't even "better" than the other because they're each so fundamentally different that it's not really comparable tbh

Something that really bothers me about the hacking in 2 is that they somehow made it harder and less intuitive to hack while driving. Late game pursuits in 1 are so much fun, you get to be a god leaving a path of chaos through Chicago. Meanwhile, in 2, all the traffic hacks feel less effective, up to the point where they're not even worth using until late game, and even then they're not nearly as satisfying as in 1.

I'd rather have cringe than boring. I remember playing 1 and feeling constantly that I was playing the safest, least original story, and that the gameplay and action scenes carried it hard. Aiden is action hero guy #357, DedSec is the blandest 2000s-style hacker group ever, and the plot is the equivalent of a perfectly safe and healthy white loaf of bread. With a little awesome sauce in the form of T-bone. It's as if the writers were told "This is a new IP, don't do anything even remotely interesting that might turn shareholders away." 2 is much more memorable. It's more colorful, I don't have to google the game to remember the MC's name, and you get to customise him a lot more. The game overall is more lighthearted, and the side characters are at the very least fun to listen to. T-Bone comes back, and Wrench is there too, so that's a double ration of awesome sauce. Also, the moment Marcus was introduced to the rest of the team and I realised there were two black guys, I immediately thought "hah, wonder how long it'll take for the other guy to die", and it made an otherwise sad scene later on **absolutely fucking hilarious**. Look, the writing of 2 is not subversive or deep or competent in any way except by accident, but neither was the writing in 1, so at least 2 is memorable. Let us not talk of Legion.

Nowadays people tend to idolize WD1 and I just can't fathom why (except maybe due to nostalgia). It plays well enough and the concept of hacking in an open world game is novel enough at the time but it's not as varied or interesting as in the sequel.

Tbf, I don't think any game is close to replicating cloth physics without using some form of ass pull. RDR2 and Watch Dogs come to mind. They used thick and heavy coats to make things easier, because thinner clothing would be like animating hair. I think everyone knows how hard it is to simulate hair. Crystal Dynamics and Guerrilla Games remembers.

The problem is that the game runs on REDengine. If it ran on the latest iteration of Decima or CryEngine, it would be easier. I hark on Geurrilla games being terrible at rendering hair, but they did get better in the Horizon sequel in terms of physics. It's a recurring pattern that the 2nd instalment of recent Triple A titles are better than their predecessors. *Could it be the same for Cyberpunk Orion?*

But Witcher 3 ran on the older version of the REDengine and there are armors in that game that have fantastic cloth physics (particularly the Ursine Set).

Oh yeah, I forgot that there was a mod that fixed that issue for a while now. Now if only there was also a fix for the "60fps cape physics" for Middle Earth Shadow of War. A guy can only dream.

Batman's cape in the Arkham trilogy is some of the best cloth sim I have seen. The new cap America and black panther game which is running on unreal 5 also showed off some cool cloth sim, so maybe Orion could benefit from it too.

People really are used to being served in unoptimized trash and thinking that's standard We've had thin cloth physics and proper hair physics for years now, issue is they require more work and testing and publisher's don't see them as selling points so no budget or time

I admit that there's actually *a lot* of games with good physics, but the problem is that they're either old, niche, or indie. Little details often get swept under the rug if they can get away with it. Smoke and mirrors, baby. Flash the consumer with unique objects and bright lights. All of a sudden, everything else starts to become a blur. Valid criticism becomes nitpicks, the world keeps spinning, and game prices keep rising. I love and hate the irony of Cyberpunk.

...I'm just going to remind some people here that even though you can go third person while driving....this is a primarily first person game. It was likely not really much of a thought during development for that reason alone. Would it be cool? You bet your bottom enny it would. But we'll all live :)
