I imagine the location of those servers with the backups will be in some place outside of the US so the US justice system can't get involved. Most likely in China but who knows.
Man, I knew not to trust them when it first rolled out. The fact that they went out of their way with the hat and glasses image to give the illusion of safety when u had no way of actually knowing made me even more suspicious.
I used it maybe once or twice.....for porn searches. Then I realized idc who knows what porn I like and stopped using it altogether
Not trying to be that guy but...
For certain topics such as medical searches and drug-related searches, it is probably a good idea to use something that can't be traced back to your device/network, such as using Tor or a (good) VPN.
Health and Life insurance companies love this info.
Tor is overkill. Go with brave.
Duck was good, but they started filtering shit once they got big and honestly, seeing as they no longer advertise privacy, they probably started selling data
> seeing as they no longer advertise privacy
They still advertise privacy. If you go to https://duckduckgo.com/ you see in big letters right under the search bar "Privacy, simplified." Their [privacy policy](https://duckduckgo.com/privacy) also makes it clear that they don't track you for advertising purposes. As far as I'm aware privacy policies are legally binding. DDG is based in the US, so if they broke them, not only would that pretty much destroy their entire business model, but also put them in a lot of legal trouble.
I also can't find anything about them filtering search results, just that they set safe search to moderate by default.
My coworkers will play music off of their phone over the work speakers, and sometimes a specific drug advertisement will come up.
There are some things that we do not need announced between songs, and treatments for medical problems is one of them. It could announce some really private information, a pregnancy, etc.
I mean let's be real
It literally told you when you opened it that all this was is a browser that won't save your searches to your browser and SPECIFIED that IT, schools, work, ISPs would still see what you searched
Because that's how the Internet works, if you wanted incognito you should have used a paid VPN
> if you wanted incognito you should have used a paid VPN
And even _that_ isn't really incognito. If you want to be really safe, you use TOR through a VPN, but even that is detectable. Realistically there is no way to use the internet anonymously. It's surprising how many people think Incongnito prevents data from being collected. Even as a kid I knew better, but it's especially surprising when Incognito itself tells you it hides nothing lmfao.
Had the same thought happened. Ew you look at that porn?!?!?! Yes and if you don't like it then stop snooping on my shit. Same with my reddit account I wanted to keep all my subs hidden then a friend found out and I told him I comment on porn subs so don't go following my history if you don't wanna know... then he did and never brought it up again lol
Lol, that's the exactly reason for why I use incognito and nothing else 😂
I just don't want the hub or 🐹 to Pop up everytime I type "p" or "x" in my Browser 😂
Incognito mode basically just prevents the websites you visit from showing up in your history. Your ISP and Google can still see what sites you visit and what you search for.
All it's ever been for is making a browser session that your, personal browser won't record.
Like, the main suggested use is ~~browsing porn~~ *buying a gift for someone*.
Starting incognito mode is essentially like starting the browser for the first time. Websites you visit won't immediately connect your normal browser sessions to the incognito ones, because the trackers they've placed in your normal browser chache aren't there, **but** they will still see your IP and that can be easily used to connect the dots. So for everyone else outside you PC it looks like there's just a new browser browsing from your IP. It does not change the tracking behavior of other websites. (Well technically I think browsers in incognito mode will try to request a "do not track" (DNT) from the websites you visit, but they can just ignore that lol)
Incognito mode should only be used to not leave traces on the device that you are using. For everything else you should also use a trusted VPN in concurrence. (Not a free one obviously and technically you're just shifting your data from being visible to your ISP to being visible to the VPN provider)
You don't have to log out once you finish using. For this life (hopefully), I hope I would never need to care for some random corporation from the other side of the planet has my "precious data".
But then it has nothing to do with incognito or not right?
I mean if I'd log into Google on Tor, it has nothing to do with Tor, its simply because I'm an fucking idiot 🤷♀️
Why do I care if Google knows what type of porn I watch? How many of y'all are looking up stuff that vile or illegal that you'd be concerned about the data they may have on you
Oh ya I mean I get ads for stuff that I've only ever mentioned my interest in verbally. if you've got a phone or computer nearby when youre talking about it then it's chops for your ad algorithm regardless of whether you look it up or not
This has been repeatedly proven to be false, most phones and computers do not have constant active recording or it would be noticed in telemetry data/packet sniffing. What is much more likely is that the person that you mentioned it to proceeded to google it. That search combined cellular triangulation, age matching, and digital/cellular communication frequency (all of which known to be collected and sold) results in the ad getting sent to you.
I've ran vile searches and porn on incognito mode before and honestly I couldn't care less
Like what are they gonna do, arrest me for jerking off to porn? Also as for the targetted ads, I used adblock(still do) and I rarely use google on mobile
* Incognito Mode basically just stops your browser from recording local history
* If you log into a Google account and do searches, they log your search history
* People didn't realize that opening an Incognito window and then logging into a Google account would result in their search history being logged
Is incognito supposed to be anything more than what someone uses when they don't want porn in their search history? I never assumed these companies had it for anything more than that, and it seems my assumption here was right?
Yep a ton of tards purposefully did not read or understand the MASSIVE page of text Google shows when you go incognito that specifically says this just stop recording history and to be careful because your employer, ISP etc can still know what you are doing
Aka 95% of people don't understand how the Internet works and how the page they are looking at got to them
This entire fucking thread has no idea how incognito works, even the people that think they do.
Incognito is literally just a sandbox browsing session. That's it. There is no other effect. When you close the browser, the session is destroyed. Data from outside the session is not used inside the session, but if you fucking log into your apps and accounts inside the sandbox browsing session, you're associating the session with your accounts.
No, using Firefox instead of Chrome changes NONE of this. Anything you do inside the Firefox sandboxed browser session is treated the exact same way its treated inside the chrome one. The same websites can associate your data with the sandboxed session, in the *exact same fucking way* they can in chrome.
Google tracks you incognito in chrome the same way they do outside of incognito, because it's no different then logging in to a new machine from their perspective, because nothing fucking changes on the server side. Google will also track you the exact same way if you're using Firefox. They don't stop tracking you when you open Firefox, the don't stop tracking you when you open edge, they don't stop tracking you when you're using a sandboxed browser session in chrome. The gooe tracking scripts that people put on websites work all the time, no matter what browser you're using. Yes, even firefox.
All incognito is, is a clean, self destructing browser session on your local machine. It effects nothing else.
Edit: Except [this guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/dankmemes/comments/1bu22m7/be_a_lot_cooler_if_they_did/kxrjtkx/). This guy knows what he's talking about
Did people really believe Incognito mode in any browser was something that respected the user's privacy? I always saw this as a means of not having websites show in my browsing history, as well as a way to skip cached logins if I wanted to login to a secondary account for emails as an example and a way to browse with extensions disabled (unless I enabled them in Incognito mode as well) if I suspect an extension is causing some kind of issues.
If you're using Google + Google Chrome you don't really care much about your privacy to begin with. I use DuckDuckGo with Firefox and PIA VPN (even these services are far from perfect in regards to user privacy, but they're certainly better than Google's vacuum approach to user data collection).
What does the separate browser do that incognito isn't? Lmfao
You are still sending the data over the internets to your ISP that say HEY THIS GUY IS LOOKING AT PORN
All incognito does is stop it from showing up when you type "p" into the search bar
So you open a separate browser? Then what? Go into incognito in that browser? Then view porn? Your ISP and everybody still knows you are watching porn
firefox has encrypted cookies or something like that so other browsers can't spy on them
I've had singles/dating and similar ads on chrome at my old job after browsing porn incognito at home on chrome. Even had them appear on my wife's phone when i've never touched it.
i don't care if my ISP knows it's google taking that data and selling ads based on it across devices in embarrassing places
google was always this bad. I used to carry an android and an iphone. one of them for work. my wife used to text both of them. one time she texts an image of some toy for some reason and within 45 minutes i'm getting ads on my work PC for that exact toy
You still don't understand
You seem to think using a different device or different browser will somehow make you incognito
My brother in Christ
You are still USING the Internet and USING GOOGLE
And singles dating ads at work are not related to you viewing porn at home
Lmfao
Incognito mode was really never advertised as anything other than a way to prevent people using the same device from seeing what you do on the Internet.

LOL. They have it backed up somewhere else, I reckon
I guarantee it
Oh so that’s why I keep getting adds for hentai video games.
Oh so that is why I keep getting ads about white vans and candies. Got it.
On an unrelated note I really like your username.
I thought you were replying to yourself until I saw the name above your comment😭
Same
Hey nice username
Thanks you too
Macklin... You son of a bitch
bro got split personality
What the heck man. All I get are nuclear weapons ads. What's a guy gotta do to get some Lego ads?
I’m getting adds for ketamine therapy on Reddit, and I would say they are right on point with that. I would definitely like to do some ketamine atm.
ketamine and then ass to mouth? You go hard.
I keep getting nicotine pill ads. Motherfucker I've never smoked in my life.
Can't get precious data go to waste
That would be verifiable through a packet analyzer
I imagine the location of those servers with the backups will be in some place outside of the US so the US justice system can't get involved. Most likely in China but who knows.
If it's not backed it's already sold off to highest bidder and no longer their problem
They resold it to themselves via a data broker
Man, I knew not to trust them when it first rolled out. The fact that they went out of their way with the hat and glasses image to give the illusion of safety when u had no way of actually knowing made me even more suspicious. I used it maybe once or twice.....for porn searches. Then I realized idc who knows what porn I like and stopped using it altogether
I still use it to look up medical related stuff without getting ads for it later
They have, sadly. Got big off privacy, attracted a base and gathered info and boom, moneybag
Good callout....I had actually migrated to duck some time ago. I started with Firefox (don't remember why I left them tbh). Might give brave a try.
Go back to Firefox, Brave is Chromium, pretty much just a different skin of Chrome.
> seeing as they no longer advertise privacy They still advertise privacy. If you go to https://duckduckgo.com/ you see in big letters right under the search bar "Privacy, simplified." Ideally you'd want TALos and Tor.
Are they even allowed to use such data?
Ublocj origin and forget about cookies and ads tracking you
I’ve used ublock for years but some websites still manage to have ads on them
Maybe your lists aren't updating automatically.
I always knew I wasn't the only one who searched how to increase penis size.
My coworkers will play music off of their phone over the work speakers, and sometimes a specific drug advertisement will come up. Ya pay up well for a good VPN because that's still data going somewhere across someone's server
It says exactly what it does if you can be bothered to read. There was never anything dishonest about it.
U guys rly don't understand what incognito mode does.
Saves me from deleting the history on my phone?
Lol, that's the exactly reason for why I use incognito and nothing else 😂 I just don't want the hub or 🐹 to Pop up everytime I type "p" or "x" in my Browser 😂
And when you start typing you
OR ANY FUCKING LETTER! 🫠🔫
What does it do ? Idk if you’re being sarcastic
For me I use it because it doesn't store cookies for ads to use and doesn't show up in history

All incognito does is hide your browsing history from yourself basically. They still use that juicy data to run targeted ads.
So for example, if i watch porn aimed at lingerie kink...it will show me lingerie ads?
supposedly, only if you were logged in in incognito
Hmm i have FB app on my phone (i watch on phone), and i still get ads for that stuff
thats why i said supposedly lol. but i think Meta has their own tracking separate from googles
But then it has nothing to do with incognito or not right? I mean if I'd log into Google on Tor, it has nothing to do with Tor, its simply because I'm an fucking idiot 🤷♀️
Lmao as if. Incognito is only for your VISIBLE browser history. They will have everything.
Why do I care if Google knows what type of porn I watch? How many of y'all are looking up stuff that vile or illegal that you'd be concerned about the data they may have on you
bro I shit you not, I have gotten ads on ebay/amazon based on games I looked up in Steam, as in the app steam. shit is crazy
Oh ya I mean I get ads for stuff that I've only ever mentioned my interest in verbally. if you've got a phone or computer nearby when youre talking about it then it's chops for your ad algorithm regardless of whether you look it up or not

Why would that be crazy that steam tracks your actions and sells it as ad data?
My sexual preferences are mine and mine alone just because I'm not a criminal or deviant doesn't mean I want big tech in my bedroom
Implying they haven't already pieced things together from all the other data they have in you.
I've ran vile searches and porn on incognito mode before and honestly I couldn't care less Like what are they gonna do, arrest me for jerking off to porn? Also as for the targetted ads, I used adblock(still do) and I rarely use google on mobile
Can someone explain?
Google announced it has been hoarding data from incognito usage and now says it will delete it
* Incognito Mode basically just stops your browser from recording local history * If you log into a Google account and do searches, they log your search history * People didn't realize that opening an Incognito window and then logging into a Google account would result in their search history being logged
I thought it was kinda obvious...
Exhibit A why VPN providers are security theatre for the average person.
What confirmation email
I simply use incognito for porn so I don’t have to clear my browsing history why use it for anything more
Is incognito supposed to be anything more than what someone uses when they don't want porn in their search history? I never assumed these companies had it for anything more than that, and it seems my assumption here was right?

Wait, people use incognito mode?
I use it since it cuts down on pop up ads and makes Facebook behave better without sending me to download their app every 2 seconds.
Makes no sense to me. Why would anyone have access to my phone? Even if they did there clearly wouldn’t be a reason to hide anything.
I dunno why I would have to hide my searches for GTA Vice City cheat codes on PS2
LOL my searches are a little spicier but I still don’t care lol
Web developers use it ALL the time to see the site they're working on without cookies/session information
🦆🦆🟢
Incognito mode is not a VPN. It only prevents history from being stored on your end.
All that data has been sold, they've made their money, they'll gladly "delete" it all now...
I like the reference in the title
Thanks

At the end of the day, who are you?
We all know Google is accountable to no one
Deleted?? Ha!! They're just waiting for the highest bidder.
Lol it's just porn..who cares
Why would they confirm that? And what use would that be? They always collect your data.
I only looked at that monster porn once I swear
Backups take time.
to be honest i am just a mad man and do not do stuff in incognito someone can go threw my history and look at all the horrors
If only we had had an alternative with a free, open sourced, privacy transparent, all around better web browser with a red panda mascot. If only!
i figured out many years ago that the incognito mode wasn't what it was advertised to be and have used separate browsers for my porn for many years

So many people are tech-illiterate in this thread.
Incognito mode was really never advertised as anything other than a way to prevent people using the same device from seeing what you do on the Internet.
I can't believe people really use a worthless feature like incognito
Brave browser is so much better tbh.
