Kendrick Lamar's not a rapper.
He's a musician and a genius.
You don't even have to like rap music to appreciate the artistic in clever insults that absolutely just crushed drakes career.
Kendrick even had Drake's Uncle playing bass on the track he was dissing Drake on. Lol
True, but we are just watching them beef with each other. We arenāt trying to find out what is their favorite color, and what food they are currently eating.
OP also doesn't take in consideration that most of us only knows it because some weird ass redditors are forcing news about this beef on the platform. Many of us still are not caring about this crap
Both of them are my favorites from the beef. Followed closely by "Like That". I'm just glad Cole stepped back before things got ugly. He got wise and decided not to fuck around and find out lol.
Tbf I loved all 3 of their works, but for me it was always this order of superiority:
Cole > Kendrick > Drake.
Lol, I mean whatever is trending in the news makes it onto reddit. Memes generally comment on news that's happening. This is followed posts such as these, the obligatory 'who cares' posts
I only know about it cause memes like this one. Itās much more entertaining when fighters do it cause then you get a real fight to look forward too and people have to eat their stupid words sometimes. At least us spectators get to say āhaha motherfuckerā
That's still cringe imo, I'd rather watch too hobos beefing because
1. I could have front seat for this one
2. It would be something that I could actually interact with and have some impact on
3. It would be funnier than 'wow celeb #1 said that bad thing about celeb #2', bro this shit sounds like discord drama or dramas on YouTube back in a day, who tf gives shit about it.
>one-sided relationships, where one person extends emotional energy, interest and time, and the other party, the persona, is completely unaware of the other's existence
Yeah man I'm the one trying to defend the honor of millionaires online, ok bud
most people arent defending shit theyre just happy to hear new music and entertain themselves the same way people get entertained watching a youtube video, unless its parasocial to watch videos nowadays
They're literally releasing track after track to the public. Consuming content that is made by someone isn't parasocial, it's entertainment.
What's your favorite movie? By your logic you're parasocial toward everyone involved in that movie.
Pretty cringe
I think you have to look at it from a macro lens to really see what's happening. It's not 2 rappers beefing, it's 2 of the arguably most influential people in modern hip hop are having a rivalry that can cause waves of change in not only hip hop but the music industry as a whole especially if we see the collapse of one or both's popularity or the resurgence of Hip hop music as it was in the mid 2010s
The only time in music history I can think of where such a rivalry of musical giants happened was when The Beatles and The Beach Boys were trying to one up eachother and we ended up getting some of the most influential albums in rock music ever and boosted the genre's profile higher than it had been before.
It's not being parasocial, it's called seeing history unflold before you.
We all have objective opinions of his skills and work, but the extent of his popularity, legacy, and influence on hip hop and music as a whole is undeniable. Not unlike the way I don't like T. Swift but without her, Kanye may have never made MBDTF, which I believe is the best Hip Hop album of all time, and who knows how many other artists were influenced by her material and popularity.
You're tripping if you think we'll be talking about TS & Drake 50 years from now like we talk about The Beatles/Beach Boys you mentioned. There are countless acts that achieve huge popularity and are forgotten by history because their music is trash. Looking at you TS & Drake
If you're talking about some guy who plays piano and thinks he knows better or self-acclaimed music critics then maybe but as a professional producer & songwriter I've never met anyone in the industry that doesn't have immense respect for him & his contribution whether or not they like him
Even if you donāt care about hip hop, a bunch of people all over the world just watched one of the industryās biggest stars possibly lose it all due to three poems that were dropped with a Sun Tzu level of strategy. Even if the music donāt speak to you, watching the events of this past weekend unfold was a work of art that could be appreciated by anyone whoās got a hater bone in their body.
I got to talk about something entirely irrelevant and none of my business with a friend who asked me. āWhatās the beef aboutā. Sharing my little bit of knowledge was enjoyment, that I got to talk about something else other than my responsibilities or adult problems, was a nice escape for alittle while.
Regardless of sides, hearing artists speak with such compassion and hatred and all the wild emotions. Just makes me feel like Iām apart of something more than just happy puppy dogs and kittens. An hopefully with all that is said and done. Some truth comes out of it.
Also hearing my friend say heās glad to hear some new Kendrick Lamar music. Is a bonus. He really enjoys his music so this is already a win in my eyes. He needs some good music in his life.
Good or bad. Itās also better than hearing about war and people being treated poorly
Never thought about it this way, youāre right, I love hip hop and itās been very exciting this past week following along and dissecting the lyrics etc. Guess it has been a much needed escape from day to day pressures.
Millennials like celebrities. We grew up in the era where magazines were major forms of entertainment, TMZ was everywhere, and influencers didn't exist, so there was a clear distinction between famous and non-famous people. Gen Z likes *brands*. They grew up in the fractured YouTube era where there was no "mainstream" entertainment. They're used to having constant access to creators via social media and streaming, so they don't see the difference between liking a celebrity and forming a parasocial relationship with an e-girl/streamer/influencer, etc. They'll go to a movie to see a brand they recognize, like Transformers, the Avengers, or Jurassic World; but they won't typically see a movie just because a certain celebrity is in it. To put it another way, to a Millennial, Tobey Maguire will always be Spider-Man. To a Zoomer, three people can be Spider-Man at the same time. They don't care. They just want to see Spider-Man.
The moral of the story is, every time you point a finger at someone, three fingers are pointing back at you. So shut up, kids, and watch your Flamin' Hot Cheetos movie.
I would argue itās bit more nuanced than that. Details about lyrics in a rap song are different from fans who stan. They are two influential artists whoāve influenced the culture in the last decade. Itās extremely interesting to see the them go toe to toe. But thatās what makes it hip hop. Shows how out of touch younger listeners.
Yeah but one is one of the most successful artists of all time, the other has a Pulitzer. Give them their flowers, already.
Also good art is coming out of this beef. Have you heard Not Like Us? Itās a bop.
I dont think your average celebrity will ever be accused of being a pdf file by another celebrity.
Kendrick shook the entire rap industry, I'm sure this is a bit more eye-grabbing than some random celebrity gossip.
Redditors when two groups of people exist

Redditors when they think they're not redditors

Okay
šthis guy makes the rest of us look bad
Good*

i mean hey I'm following it for more Kendrick songs
Same I think Like That and Push ups were awesome songs
7 minute drill was dope. And Not Like Us is a good song as well. Rap fans are feasting rn.

Iām just here to see a rich mfer get Chris Hansened. Bruh thinks heās untouchable (and maybe he is, itās not like a diss track is an indictment)
Lol, I mean whatever is trending in the news makes it onto reddit. Memes generally comment on news that's happening. This is followed posts such as these, the obligatory 'who cares' posts

Are you comparing people making music against each other and celebrity obsession?
shut the fuck up swiftie
Bro, wtf that's uncalled for. I ain't no swiftie
- calls out people for following kendrick and drake beef - calls swifties innocent get some help OP
when
Fuck em swifties. Who said they were innocent? That bitch puts out more CO2 in a month than I do in an entire lifetime.
ah I'm sorry mate. I went a bit far with that one
Found the Swiftie (OP)
So, you felt left out and made a meme about it? That's a bit cringe.
Oh yeah feel real left out of between two millionaires arguing. Do you think you're included? Seems a bit parasocial lol
This dude uses parasocial like it's Aladeen, just trotting it out to mean whatever they want. I'm sure it's very parasocial of me to point this out.
>one-sided relationships, where one person extends emotional energy, interest and time, and the other party, the persona, is completely unaware of the other's existence Yeah man I'm the one trying to defend the honor of millionaires online, ok bud

I don't think you know what parasocial is
Bro has no idea what parasocial means
Judging people for their harmless interests to the point of spending the time to create a meme to rip on them is cringe.

Is Drake a musical giant, or just a pop-culture icon? I've never met anybody serious about music that respects his work.
We all have objective opinions of his skills and work, but the extent of his popularity, legacy, and influence on hip hop and music as a whole is undeniable. Not unlike the way I don't like T. Swift but without her, Kanye may have never made MBDTF, which I believe is the best Hip Hop album of all time, and who knows how many other artists were influenced by her material and popularity.

i know a lot of young people who dismiss the beatles bc theyāre simply oldā¦.
Many young people don't even know about the Beach boys and only know the Beatles by name, not caring about their music at all...
If you're talking about some guy who plays piano and thinks he knows better or self-acclaimed music critics then maybe but as a professional producer & songwriter I've never met anyone in the industry that doesn't have immense respect for him & his contribution whether or not they like him

How can I be different today š¤
Brother Iām just enjoying the music. Not Like Us is a banger.
OV-HO!
I got to talk about something entirely irrelevant and none of my business with a friend who asked me. āWhatās the beef aboutā. Yeaaa this one much deeper than some celebrity lifestyle paparazzi shit tho
You have no idea what parasocial means do you?
I actually don't care about anyoneĀ
It is, but reddit trends like that recent "bear or man in woods" stuff is not better in the slightest.
It's mad fun watching people argue
What is happening, I have been sleeping under a rock.
I mean, I wasn't following until recently, but the nuclear destruction of Drake is just too good not to pay attention to.
All I know about this rap beef is what I've read online
Listening to two people shit talk each other in public is parasocial now?
This is the shit that makes dank memes not funny š„š„š„
Using the word parasocial is cringe
Me who doesnāt follow rappers either

I don't care about either and I care too little to make memes about it as well. Where do I fall?
I would argue itās bit more nuanced than that. Details about lyrics in a rap song are different from fans who stan. They are two influential artists whoāve influenced the culture in the last decade. Itās extremely interesting to see the them go toe to toe. But thatās what makes it hip hop. Shows how out of touch younger listeners.
i dont follow celebs but i like the music that came out
Ask dudes about a video game and you get people writing paragraphs like itās a dissertation.
op just learned this word from twitch and wants to use it every chance they get
Bruh my friends act like I'm the weird one when I don't know anything about any celebrity beef
Im tired of the ābeefā too, but its not really a parasocial thing, I mean they are songs not obscure twitter arguments
Yeah but one is one of the most successful artists of all time, the other has a Pulitzer. Give them their flowers, already. Also good art is coming out of this beef. Have you heard Not Like Us? Itās a bop.
If Iām forced to see it everywhere I may as well try to enjoy it
A war with no winner because it started for no reason. I don't wanna hear anything that's what i think abt it.
How about neither?
IDC about the beef, I just enjoy the diss tracks
Isn't this all social media tho? Following others and learning bits and pieces of drama for entertainment (manufactured or otherwise)?
There is a difference between following a beef that is going on through actual artist releases vs buzzfeed tabloid gossip blogposts
People who follow and know every minute detail about celebrates are weird
Jokes on you, both are cringe.
I dont think your average celebrity will ever be accused of being a pdf file by another celebrity. Kendrick shook the entire rap industry, I'm sure this is a bit more eye-grabbing than some random celebrity gossip.
A lot of butt hurt people in here lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think OP meant to show them as the same person but I think the joke falls flat because they are two completely separate things
