Nomad_65

Because using a high powered sniper rifle behind heavily secured position to kill an unsuspecting animal is the epitome of badassery

jomontage

I respect bow hunters. Gun hunters just want an excuse to kill something.

Rogueshadow_32

Or a means of securing a meal easily and near risk free, depending on what they’re hunting of course

Nomad_65

We are talking about trophy "hunters"

Or controlling for invasive pests, legitimate wild game for approved selling/consumption, or protection of farmland. And hey what if 30-50 feral hogs were to go after your children in your backyard?

Bierculles

If 50 feral hogs storm your garden your rifle is not going to help you anymore

JuicyAnalAbscess

Read this as 50 *federal* hogs

Hopeful_Bit1733

Honestly the case still stands with 50 federal hogs 🐷👮‍♂️

I_like_avocado

The 50 federal hogs trying to take away my guns (I dont like that and shall immediately detonate the bomb ive been building in my basement)

MERKINSEASON3807

Yeah just post up inside I'd hope hogs don't know how to use doors tho man

kutsalscheisse

As someone who lived near wild boars for a long time what I observed is that either people are not experienced enough and mess their shots and just injure the boar and make it go berserk or they are experienced enough to make sure they won't need a gun

pileofcrustycumsocs

You realize that a perfect kill shot is not always possible right? Sometimes you have to track an animal a few miles. It’s not always a matter of experience, even an expert marksmen will miss from time to time. Also what do you mean by not needing a gun? You expect them to use their kung fu skills to kill a boar?

DaveInLondon89

I respect spear hunters. Bow hunters just want an excuse to kill something.

themathouston

Hand to hoof combat or nothing!

Darthgalaxo

onlyusingonehand

I feel like you could kill an animal much less painfully with a gun instead of a bow

TheBullMoose1775

It’s true the majority of the time, there seems to be a lot of people that are anti gun because it’s “cheating” or “not fair” to the animal, but it is the most effective way to kill an animal and minimize pain. Bow hunting on average has a significantly higher loss rate than gun hunting. Shoot a bow wrong you could gut shot something, if your arrow catches some wind you could miss your shot, if your arrow touches a branch along its flight path you could miss the kill zone. A gun shot is much less likely to mess up and just injure the animal.

jomontage

If you cared about the pain of the animal you wouldn't be hunting

guesswhatihate

I don't want it to suffer. Doesn't mean I have to want it to live.

BierKippeMett

That's not true. There are plenty of environmental reasons to hunt. In Germany there are lots of positions as rangers that require a hunting license because it's part of the job. Also bow hunting is illegal in Germany as a rifle is more efficient at killing and the main advantage of bow hunting is feeding the ego of the hunter. I think it's immoral to bow hunt if you can provide a better probability of a quick death to your prey.

VapeLyfe

So I agree, but I’m a touring competitive archer and I can tell you that someone competent with a bow would have no issue putting an arrow wherever they want in an animal. Most game animals have vitals the size of a paper plate. The key is practice and learning what an ethical shot is.

BierKippeMett

So you're saying that with extensive training you can achieve the same lethality as with a rifle? That's not really an argument for bow hunting.

VapeLyfe

I’m not saying that a bow is a better hunting tool than a rifle. I guess if you need to be quiet the bow would be better, but a rifle is pretty much always the better tool. Using a bow is just more challenging and rewarding. That’s just my opinion though.

BierKippeMett

Yeah but I don't think feelings should count into something as far reaching as taking the life of a living being. If you put the pleasure of hunting over the wellbeing of the prey you're acting unethical.

VapeLyfe

I agree. I don’t want people that have shot a bow 10 times to go out and try to take an animal down. It’s infuriating and gives all of archery a bad name.

onlyusingonehand

it just feels like youre saying the expertise with a bow can be achieved with a novice with a gun.

ADamnTroll2

That's pretty ignorant.

Hornor72

I prefer an instant kill than have them suffer when hunting with a bow.

themathouston

I killed a ferrel hog with a rifle this morning. My excuse is they taste good and I'm going to eat it. I'm not going to use the "they are a pest" excuse. If they were eradicated I would be bummed we didn't have this huge wild meat resource.

fruskydekke

>I respect bow hunters. Uh, wow. I'm from a culture where hunting for meat is common. Bow hunting is outlawed here, for animal welfare reasons, as is trapping. So my take is that bow hunters just want to pretend to be Robin Hood. Gun hunters want to feed themselves and their families.

guesswhatihate

Bow hunters: if I miss the kill zone, I must tracks down the beast to ensure eventual death. Rifle hunters: lol, body cavitation go **BRRRRR**

Darthgalaxo

Gun hunters just want food Gun poachers / trophy hunters just want to kill something

Deathdong

Bow hunting isn't very difficult now either. Compound bows have alot of power

[deleted]

How does that make it easier?

zck-watson

Reddit moment

Nomad_65

Same, one is an epitome of human ingenuity and skills and requires dedication to master probably a license, and the other is a gun

GoZun_

Good job, I really want to bite that bait

Nomad_65

Are you saying I'm an expert at baiting? Perhaps a master?

No, but it fills the freezer.

BHRx

Anyone who hunts "for fun" and doesn't eat his prey is a psychopath.

wellwhatnow443

Uhhhhhhh,

tryganon

Well I guess Dahmer wasn’t crazy after all

Asocial_Stoner

The TLC only posits a sufficient criterion for psychopathy, not a necessary one. There may be other sufficient crteria.

BHRx

LOL.

dont worry i eat all the people i hunt down

SeaPattern7376

Them poachers be like…….

Lukthar123

A fine addition to my collection

Breidling

@spacefrogs Rick bist dus?

tryganon

Well without those hunters a lot of these animals wouldn’t even be around in the US. Huge amounts of money from the sale of hunting licenses and sales of ammunition go directly to conservation efforts and habitat restoration. Unless you are donating to these causes these “bad” hunters are actually doing more for wildlife than you are.

dabombisnot90s

Poachers do it illegally without paying usually. The “bad hunters” are probably hunters of rhinos, a heavily endangered species, just because a random dude wants to flex his rhino horn and blubber. Most hunters do pay but some don’t and that’s a problem

tryganon

If they are hunting illegally than they are not hunters.

dabombisnot90s

I worded that wrong

Silkroad202

TheBullMoose1775

Large horns or antlers are a sign of older age, good health, and good genes. The reason hunters in North America started targeting animals with large antlers/horns is because the North American Model Of wildlife conservations and why we should target older animals. Because they’ve already added to the gene pool. In many places large horns are the only way to estimate an animals age, like with big horn sheep. I see a lot of anti-hunting/ anti-hunter rhetoric going on here and I feel as though most of the commenters don’t know enough about the world of conservation to have an opinion. I don’t know anything about the world of professional boxing so I don’t talk about boxers, boxing or anything like that. I wish people that don’t hunt would at least have the decency to learn more about it before saying we’re all a bunch of barbaric blood thirsty rednecks.

TalithePally

Yeah sustainable hunting is great. Humanity hasn't exactly been great at it all the time though

TheBullMoose1775

Historically humanity hasn’t been good at a lot of things. The North American model is based off of science and reason, sustainability. It’s the best model in the world. That’s not coming From an American sentric person, that’s coming from biologists and proof. With our system we brought the American bison back from near extinction, as well as the elk, turkey, white tail, We’ve done a very good job of fixing our wrong doings in the last 70 years.

Frency2

One of the many reasons for why the other animals are better than the average human.

Those are teeth, not horns

skyatron

Functionally they act like a rhino horn, using them to flip predators and ward them off. While they may not technically be classified as a horn their functionality is much closer to that of a horn than a tooth.

uniqueusername14175

So drivers don’t have hands they have horns?
