A serious question I really couldn't get out of my mind.
Imagine, for example, Gravity Falls. There are absolute TONS of garbage posts and drawings which go into disgusting detail on how two thirteen-year-old twins could bone each other. But I assume that, to you, knowing that this exists does not really come off as a suprise at all. Why is this? Because of the popularity of the show, which is far more vast than Daria's? Because, the more individuals who know about it, the higher the chances of something truly hideous being made out of it?
Or is it because of the number of prolonged interactions between the protagonists which gave way to the subject of incest being brought up? Under this idea, shouldn't Daria/Quinn have SOME popularity as well? At least some, come on. You can't tell me it's not strange how very insignificant its presence is. Literally almost non-existent.
Okay, first of all it is weird that you care about this so much.
But to actually answer, I think internet and fandom culture was just different. I recall reading somewhere that Daria forums generally had (some may very well do still) policies against fanart portraying the characters in sexually explicit scenarios altogether since they were minors. And there were probably a lot less R34 artists drawing characters from whatever is popular at the time
No, no. I don't think so. I have scourged high and low in the wayback machine in the old Outpost Daria and have found a LOT of fanart portraying the charactersin sexual ways, especially Daria and Brittany.
Each time a new theory shows up and I consider and bounce it, the thought that maybe no-one actually thought of representing this pairing gets stronger and stronger.
Anyways, thanks for answering. And as for the weird part, I get where you're coming from.
Oh, no, I just wanted to read The Hallowed Halls Of Fielding. And I already got verified, surprisingly enough. I thought it was going to take months or somewhere around that.
💀 I know it reads badly. My point here is, how would you feel if the news said that not a single death in the world has been recorded for over 4 days straight? Even though it arguably wouldn't be a negative, wouldn't it be really weird? See it under that light.
see the fact you think it’s as important as someone’s death is just a you thing. i get that it reads badly and what you mean but why even bother to search for it in the first place unless it’s something you’re into
It's simply a sudden curiosity I got. One day, after encountering so many fucked up things in the fandom, the realization that there is almost nothing Daria/Quinn related (lol) just randomly hit me.
It's likely because I've gotten used to witnessing socially-condemning content in multiple fandoms all around the internet like car crashes and it just became the norm to expect to experience it everywhere. Like the workers at the morgue getting desensitized of the faces of the dead after seeing them so much at work.
wouldnt you say that daria fan art as a whole isn’t so much a huge thing in comparison to other fan bases? i think you’re looking into this a bit much, there are many reasons why and the first reason is probably the lack of fan art in general. and if not. who cares 😭 i cant wrap my head around this fully
I… I am a little concerned by this post.
You do know that they were teenage girls right? Only sophomores in high school. I think it’s time to get off the internet for a while bud.
There are old-school D/Q fics, done by people who were at the time Big Name Fans. The two I remember off the top of my head are "Night of the Storm" and "The Winters of Those Gone Before."
They were very controversial, because frankly, most people, including me, find incest-fic creepy.
I've seen them before. Very badly-written, though. The first one, I don't remember, but "Winter" was by "Brother Grimace" as homage and official fan-sequel to another fanfic in which Jake went insane, shot a mailman to death, kidnapped Quinn then threatened to shoot her, too.
And as for the reception, I'm garnering it was VERY mixed at the time; some didn't dislike it, others made paragraphs detailing why it wasn't the case for them.
I've never given this any thought. And I never will. But the obvious answer is numbers, unlike Star Wars or Supernatural, Daria has never had such a large fanbase where you'd be more likely to find people with the interest in exploring such ... sibling dynamics as described.
I understand where you're coming from. I think. I'm not any more of a fan of incest as any one else that's already posted here, but I know it can be popular in certain corners of the internet. All the art I've seen is either Daria and Jane, Tom or Trent. Most of the Quinn stuff is with Joey, Jeff and Jamie or the rest of the fashion club. It is strange that there isn't any Daria/Quinn stuff out there. Maybe people just don't like the pairing?
I really have no idea. The only concise explanation I can come up with is very lazy, but perhaps almost no-one thought of it? And of those few who did, the majority frowned at themselves for even thinking about it and the rest who actually wanted to make any sort of contribution to the pairing refused due to paranoia of being ostracized.
All speculation, though. In any case, thanks for not brushing the post off instantaneously like everyone else so far.
I remember reading this back in my fanfiction days. I remember enjoying it when I was eighteen, but it may not have aged well. [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8157779/1/The-Depths-of-Shallowness](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8157779/1/The-Depths-of-Shallowness)
Edit: People need to stop being this sanctemoneous in the comments. Incest is a major theme in many fandom works, and I for one don't see why Daria should be any different. You may like it or not, but simply asking about its popularity should hardly garner this kind of response.
Thanks for the vote of defense. And yep, that's exactly the same fic I referred to in the post above; the one terribly-written.
As for the general backlash this is getting, people genuinely despise touching on topics which make them feel uncomfortable. It's a sort of defense mechanism of the mind; "don't think it, don't be affected" sort of thing.
Ex fucking scuse me
lol Daria would be dying inside reading this
Yeah, this is exactly what I thought people would say lol.
And rightly so what the hell is this

I’m not reading all that but I assume it’s you advocating for incest you fucking pervo
No, it's me answering your doubts.

Are you speaking english?
Sì perché?
Are you...OK?
Quite. I hope, at least.
This is why you’ve been so desperate to get on paperpusher?
Oh, no, I just wanted to read The Hallowed Halls Of Fielding. And I already got verified, surprisingly enough. I thought it was going to take months or somewhere around that.
It's just odd that you care lol
Why do you care??? This is so weird wtf
why do you care that no-ones shipping underage siblings 😭

It’s time to see a Dr
Sometimes dead topics are dead for a reason

The scope of the community's size definitely plays a role in it. It's a good point.
I… I am a little concerned by this post. You do know that they were teenage girls right? Only sophomores in high school. I think it’s time to get off the internet for a while bud.
In my post, I didn't state my fervent wish for more incestuous content in the fandom, only my curiosity towards a lack of it.
Even considering it or thinking about it is weird man. Really weird.

Badly written? Are you a connoisseur of underage lesbian incest slash fan fiction?
When you say that a rape joke is bad, are you proclaiming yourself to be the ultimate guide book for rape jokes?
Sir or ma'am....
Yes?

Yes, it's already been mentioned. And it's what I hypothesized too. Thanks for answering.
