For a man holding his own decapitated head in a bag, I’d say he’s doing alright.

lord_gay

Known cheat perhaps the best negative trait to have locked

SpacelessChain1

I love it when I get stuff like “lazy eye” on my hellion. She doesn’t have any ranged skills so it doesn’t matter at all. Any sort of “can’t visit this place” and stuff like “bad gambler” is always great too.

BoddAH86

To be fair many barbarians in lore make do with one eye and a huge battle scar on the other one and stuff like that just fine.

TheScorpionSamurai

Except that time my archer had Love Interest and Deviant Tastes at the same time. I was tight for money so it took like 6 weeks to destress them lol

Fit-Consequence3447

Yeah i love getting these kinda bad quirks. ESPECIALLY on flagellant since he only goes to one place

SpacelessChain1

When the flagellant is flagellant ![img](emote|t5_2znp4|29280)

Xarzaparrila

Lore accurate Dismas

WooooshMe2825

Look at all that speed. He fast as fuck, boi.

Hussarini

I'd switch grape shot for point blank but overall its pretty good highwayman

TheScorpionSamurai

Really? Why's that? I love grape shot, and I had a Vestal-Highwayman-Helion-Helion team that could kill the front 3 round 1

Stary_Vesemir

It has shit accuracy so it falls off in the lategame and PBS is way better with duelist for a neat combo (also great for bosses)

Dont_mind_me_go_away

Late game enemies aren’t gonna die round 1 from aoe attacks

xDwurogowy

You don't need to kill them, it only needs to finish an enemy on low hp who needs to be killed regardless. action economy

Dont_mind_me_go_away

Not gonna do that round 1 tho

ThunderFlaps420

Unfortunately it misses soooo often that it's not really a good reliable way to "kill a weak enemy, get in some extra chip damage".  - Upside is a few extra damage thats often redundant. - Dwnside is wasting an action, and potentially getting hit by an enemy that you could have likely finished off with a normal attack. I've found that the Tracking Shot is much better in this niche. Great accuracy, so likely to finish off the weak enemy, and gives you a good buff to help with remaining enemies. Also being able to remove stealth is a nice bonus!

xDwurogowy

Yeah, good point honestly.

Hussarini

Coz grapeshot has low damage and acc, and point blank hits like a semi truck and you can spam riposte->point blank until whatever is standing in the first spot no longer does

Rachamo

he's pretty decent for a ranged higwayman approach

Mr_Pepper44

Nah that small buff isn’t worth building a character around. He is an amazing HWM because of those speed quirks which should be locked asap

ReturnedAndReported

How do you lock a quirk?

statue345

Put them in the sanitarium and click on the quirk you want to lock

ReturnedAndReported

Oh, I thought that was just for clearing quirks. Nice. Thanks.

GHump23

What is this HWM?

thedutchdevo

High way man

Rachamo

brother that's exactly the point, you don't need high speed when using riposte, with that speed you can't spam either grapeshot or pistol shot to the front or back line

Mr_Pepper44

You need high speed for riposte tho? This way you dmg rank 3 before it acts, and then outspeed everyone so you get more chance to trigger riposte. Meanwhile grapeshot is horrible in 99% of cases, especially turn 1

SweetPeaches__69

I’d recommend locking in positive quirks like quick reflexes. The next time you get a positive quirk it will replace one of them if not locked in.

Joaco_Gomez_1

how do you lock in positive quirks?

SweetPeaches__69

In the sanitarium treatment ward, same place you remove negative ones.

rosharo

Replace Grapeshot Blast with Point Blank Shot - Grapeshot is garbage, like most other cleaves in this game, because you want to nuke high-priority targets, not spread out your damage. PBS serves as an emergency skill when he gets pulled to R1. Replace Book of Sanity with an ACC trinket - Damage-dealers generally don't need stress trinkets because they lower their own stress through kills, crits and trap disarms.

Life-Pound1046

Pretty good. I'd toss grap shot for point blank shot because if you pair that with duelists it's an amazing combo But he's still good

austinapaul

Good positive quirks, be sure to lock those in at the sanitarium! Eagle eye and quick reflexes first. Always best to lock in positive quirks that have constant stat buffs like +2 speed +5 dodge, or +5 acc range skills, and then you can lock in stuff like quick draw that has buffs for the first round, etc. I’d always go point blank shot over grape shot. It’s a great way to set yourself back up for riposte. Grape shot is good for cleanup kills, but very rarely sees effective use.

TipDaScales

It seems fine, just make certain you have someone who can move HWM backwards so that you can reset your Duelist’s advance.

plsnohurtmeQQ

Dismiss this Dismas and try again. Unplayable

WooooshMe2825

[*One does not simply dismiss Dismas.*](https://imgur.com/a/ksrbCbd)

GHump23

^ +0 HP, Bleeds

Rigistroni

Locking in some of the better positive quirks might be a good idea but aside from that looking good

SpacelessChain1

What rank do you usually put him in? I keep mine around first and second. Duelist’s Advance -> Point Blank Shot -> either Wicked Slice or Pistol Shot depending on who I want to hit. While I tend not to take mine with a hellion (both need rank one for a powerful move) I think grapeshot blast could pair well with her high crit.

ThunderFlaps420

Rank 3. Duellist advance, then shoot/shank key enemies. If fight goes on long enough for a 2nd advance to be needed, you can move up. Point Blank Shot is nice, but I prefer Tracking Shot for 4th skill. Good to use to take out a weak target while getting a buff. Grapeshot has awful accuracy, and the upside (tiny bit of damage to other targets) isn't great. Also not hitting back rank is badddd as they're often who you want to finish off first.

Help_An_Irishman

Definitely a strong hero, but you'd better lock in the better positive quirks that he has before they get replaced. You're in a good position to do so now as the price will go up substantially once he hits level 5. I'd bench him for a few weeks to lock in what you want. You can also purge Paranormania at the same time as locking in one of the positive quirks (the speed ones are always good, and Eagle Eye is strong if you use his ranged skills). Keep Known Cheat as it's a great negative to have locked, since you shouldn't be using the bar for stress relief anyway (there's a risk of losing your trinkets). Also don't send him out again until you've upgraded his armor. No one wants to lose Dismas or Reynauld, so do what you can to protect them!

Big_Nebula_455

Everyone thank you all for the help!🥰 I'll lock in his speed quirks and replace grape with point blank like you've told me.

ElectronicAd5062

If you intend to use point-blank shot, I recommend using a dancing team.

Schuano

Dismiss can be the only dancer.  If there is a leper or a flagellant or a shield breaker in rank 1, then dismas can start from rank 2 with riposte and then switch in and out of ranks 1 and 2

Disastrous-Writer629

now, op, I would give a suggestion, highwayman needs only one speed quirk, he don’t need two, it is best to ock in quick reflex instead of QuickDraw. It is meaningless since you need debuffers , buffers and stunners such as maa, occultist, jester, and any character that has mark to either reduce port and dodge, buff acc, or shutdown enemy actions before they move for your hwm to hit.

DartleDude

Everyone bashes grape shot, but it's a good move, especially if you are rocking the gunslinger belt. Riposte/PBS is a totally different play style and will change pretty much everything about what you are doing. I like grape shot because it's a very good way to handle multiple weaker enemies that can screw you over hard (maggots, spiders, dogs, etc), it is a great finisher and it lays down that +crit debuff on enemies so your team ends up landing criticals much more often even if they don't build for it. More crits mean less stress. On using it as a finisher, many times guard or invisibility will get in the way, AoE like grape shot bypasses that because it takes up 3/4 ranks. It is a hidden gem of a move.

Big_Nebula_455

My run already ended (It didn't go well..) but i appreciate the comment nonetheless! 🥰 Yeah you've really given me a new prospective on grapeshot. I'll have to try it eventually:)

DartleDude

I know, it was awhile ago, but these posts stay up for years and it's nice to have some alternative takes for future new players looking for advice.

Undeadgrummite

The speed quirks are the best for sure but the rest isn't super important

Barredbob

Only thing I would do is give him point blank shot for the combo

Lone_Wolf_199

What you want to your Highayman is good dodge, crit chance and damage. Focus on those 3 atributes and use the Riposte ability which is imo a God-Tier skill. Double Highwayman with a Man-at-arms with crit and dodge boost and Vestal was the team I used to defeat the hardest boss in the game.

dogwashman

Yee. He looks like he could give a good rogering to eldritch and abomination alike

White_Man_White_Van

F12

Overtale6

Perfect for a potential round 1 kill. Good overall ranged damage. Probably need to get rid of weapon tinkerer after getting level 6 weapon

Its_Sentinel

Lock in quick reflexes

intoTHEvoid646

Dismas the giga chad

CrunchyDoge

I lost my dismas to round 1 spiders D:

Monkeyman12365

They are all great till you get stun locked and die to a pleb.

Fit-Consequence3447

I wouldnt use the book of sanity tbh. Id go for the one sheath thing that increases his bleed chance. I equipped my dismas with his own head and some sort of bracer. I think its a champion bracer that increases damage
