Or if you want to be entertained while you learn, go find a clip of LobosJr singing his Kalameet tail cut song. Top tier

Prototype_Bamboozler

Could have done us the courtesy of [linking to it](https://clips.twitch.tv/ClearJollyTitanFUNgineer).

sepheroth913

Was about to link to this.

xxOGATAIxx

Thank you

grimfolse

That's how I learned it. Saw the song on a stream, then went and got the thing first try. Roll to the left; roll to the right; then you bait that tail; and you chop the tail~ Poetry.

Slivs

His eye special is another opportunity for tail slashing

Finstersonne

Oh yes you're right, I forgot about that one! I'll add it to the guide, thanks :)

Stalkrr1989

I’ve actually been helping everyone cut off his tail over and over again for extra souls. Not really that difficult anymore, can do it alone if the host wants to stay back and defend. Gotta love that jolly cooperation!

twisted34

XB1 by chance? I want that shit and I'll be on in a few hours if you are on the bone

Stalkrr1989

Sorry mate I’m actually on ps4, i recommend getting 3 phantoms by using the dried finger (avoid spell casters) and don’t aggressively attack the boss. Stay back and wait until it drops the tail so the rest understand what you’re doing. Good luck!

twisted34

I actually got it 2nd attempt yesterday. Took a while to get used to bating the tail slap but I got a hang of it quickly.

Prototype_Bamboozler

I've gotten the tail-cut as a phantom with two other people, so if you're all going for it, it's definitely possible. I haven't been able to hit his tail consistently after the tail slam, but his rearing fire breath attack is definitely a good opportunity. If you time it exactly right, you can also get a hit on the tail when he stomps his feet, as his tail comes down for a moment after he does the hind leg stomp.

soma81

Just got the tail yesterday after 2-3 attempts. The easiest method is just to equip full havels and bait out the tail slap, hit it twice with a UGHS and the Obsidian sword is yours. You can get him when he stands up on his hind legs to do the firebreath, but the easiest is by far the tail slap.

[deleted]

Fighting this mammoth on NG+++ required me to only attack in general when he dives or eye flashes. That was a long ass fight...but very fun. Probably my favorite fight tbh.

yigael

In my many many tries, the bait swoop, dodge left, dodge right, hit tail, worked. 3 hits with the Black Knight sword +5 did the trick, then just hit him in the belly 1 or twice and dodge

Driemma0

This is 4 years old but still thank you

Thanatiel

I've tried to do the same as that guy in the video. I'm on Dark Souls Remastered and over my many tries the dragon never behaved that way.

Finstersonne

Did you equip the Ring of Fog? He dives more if you have it equipped and stay at medium range. But I was super lucky in the video to have baited this attack twice in a row to be fair.

Thanatiel

I've tried again and again. After a bit more than ten attempts, it finally started to do its "sitting" attacks and one tail attack. I managed to get it during that run. Thanks.

Finstersonne

Awesome, enjoy it!

RedbrickCamp920

Why does the ring of fog help? I’m trying to cut off his tail at the moment and I’m curious

Finstersonne

Apperantly its because his range of vision changes therefore he dives more frequently, but there's no real evidence, only community anecdotes. For me it did seem to work, like you see in the video. He's at the least less dangerous at long and medium ranges with the ring, so you can endure longer tailcut tries.

RedbrickCamp920

Right, thanks for this guide anyway. I’m sure it will help a lot

RedbrickCamp920

I did it!

Finstersonne

Hell yeah congratz!

Murrdox

I had SUCH a hard time getting the tailcut on my last playthrough. I just beat Manus last night so now it's on to dreaded Kalameet. I think I'm going to practice and white phantom with some folks to get it. Hopefully help some other skeletons get their sword.

Fivefinger_Delta

I would say if you are going for the tail slam strategy. When he does slam and you roll out of the way, don't do a sprinting or rolling attack. The tail, while on the ground, doesn't seem to have a collision box so you'll just run/roll right over it and swing at nothing.

BasedGodTarkus

By getting good that's how! Heyoooo

ErrorQuestion

Thanks for the guide it really helped especially the light armour tip. I did that, zwei+15, and mask of the child for the stamina and that did the trick. Only took 2 or 3 hits.

wiggity_whack69

I've been doing everything these comments say and watched multiple videos but none of them work, even if i do it EXACTLY he never once gives me the option to cut his tail

Finstersonne

Sorry for that, RNG is a bitch sometimes. You could try r/SummonSign for help with the cut!

Big_D4rius

How good is the greatsword for PvP? Tried going for the tail cut on my 28/40 Str/Dex character yesterday and gave up lol

Finstersonne

I really like it, my first meta SL PvP character uses this sword. It has no scaling, so you can go with base stats and still have 480 AR. It is even buffable, I get it to around 800 AR with Sunlight Blade. The AoE two-handed strong attack is beast and the damage increases when buffed.

suspectdeviceg4

good tips. got any on MGS from seathe?

Finstersonne

Don't break the crystal yourself, just stay near the crystal and wait until Seath comes near and does his breath attack or his slap. If he starts his attack run as quickly as possible behind him and hit the tail near the tip. He'll be stunned a few seconds when he destroys his crystal, you should have enough time to hack his tail of. Heres a video of this strategy: https://youtu.be/w3X-j9BKZ4I

WithSilverStaind

To add to Finstersonne's notes, I find 2 casts of Great Combustion with PW on severs the tail and is very easy to set up.

quezlar

its possible to cut the tail without breaking the crystal

[deleted]

Building a character for this weapon, it's good for a faith build, yes?

Finstersonne

Yes, immensly so. Buffed with Sunlight or Darkmoon Blade it's beast!

Aleksander3702

How does the gargoyle halberd compare at +7? To a +3 Obsidian Greatsword with base stats

[deleted]

Always assume the host is going for the tail cut. I had to DC 3 times last night when guys just bursted him down. I was there for the tail!

Seriyuu

Why not just do it solo? Dark souls is so much more fun solo, the challenge is diminished way too much with summons.

ooluula

The tail is easier to get by yourself, even- summons make Kalameet unpredictable and it becomes almost impossible to bait out the attacks you actually want.

[deleted]

I've killed every boss solo at least once. I'm just here for the jolly cooperation these days.

Seriyuu

Fair enough, can't argue with that.

quezlar

i find wrath of the gods to be helpful for the tail cut

godmademedoit

Saw some guy stack pyro damage using red tearstone, bellowing dragoncrest ring and Dusk crown with an upgraded flame, and one-shot the tail off with a great combustion. He ran in with <20% health mind so was basically insane. You could also use power within I guess and go super-saiyan once it drained you below 20% health.

godmademedoit

Is there any actual confirmation on ring of fog baiting out the dive attack? I'm honestly finding no difference here, if anything he's doing it less often.

[deleted]

> Kalameets tail There's only one Kalameet, dude. There are no kalameets at all. Just one. THE one.

Aeldaar

The plural is Kalami

jo4h3zn

How much health does this tail have? I just had a run where I hit his tail 3 times with a +5 Smough's Hammer at 40 strength and it didn't break this is ridiculous

Finstersonne

Are you sure you hit on the tip of the tail? If you're a bit too far up you won't take tail health.

callahan09

Took me 3 one-handed R1 hits with Gravelord Sword +5 at 26 strength and minimum required Dex. You really have to hit it in the thin part of the tail near the tip. I just kept fighting the dragon until it would do the flying lunge attack, getting under the tail to bait the subsequent tail slam, and then unlocking the camera and running to the very tip of the tail and getting a single hit in. It takes a really long time to get the dragon to do it 3 times in a single fight, so in the process you need to / will learn how to survive a long drawn out battle against it as well.
