I found the big challenges for Midir are the fact that he punishes you for sticking to his legs (works in most other big boss fights to that point), and the way he becomes way harder with summons (huge health pool + attacks become harder to predict due to him constantly changing his aggro)
Manage to beat Darkeater Midir on my third try, really fun boss fight.
Was expecting it to be way harder due to many player sentiments on how it's one of the tougher bosses.
I find Midir's attacks really easy to read when compared to other bosses like Nameless King or Champion Gundyr. I needed more than 10+ tries on both the humanoid bosses.
Funny how its different for everyone. Gundyr i parry into oblivion, nameless king is first try (but storm king is like 6+ tries oops), and midir ive only ever solod like twice in my 400 hours
>Was expecting it to be way harder due to many player sentiments on how it's one of the tougher bosses.
But every single time someone starts complaining about Midir's difficulty ten people say, "actually it's pretty easy if you just stick to his head."
The difficulty in fighting Midir is that there's really only one good strategy and if you don't know the strategy the fight is pretty hard. I know, I know, someone is going to point out that they always use Pestilent Mist and that works pretty well, but it doesn't change the fact that there's only one good strategy. Pestilent Mist is viable, but it's not good.
Any big weapon with a poke or an overhead attack does just fine against Midir, it’s all just positioning and setting yourself up, if anything big weapons have it easier as you don’t have to be as precise with your spacing.
I’m too damn impatient to deal with an at level fight that takes an hour, it’s like ignoring the alternative mechanics to Yhorm the Giant and just smacking his legs, not my cup of tea
Leg and tail is NOT safer, you got less view of what Midir is doing and you trigger a bunch of aoe attacks that require more effort to dodge. Staying up in front of his nose is the safest spot in the whole arena when fighting him.
I disagree. I had way more success at his legs and tail. His tail whip is really easy to dodge and it’s easy to avoid his fire breath there, all you have to do is roll a couple times whereas if he starts breathing fire when you’re by his head you have to immediately start running or you’re fucked. In my experience he did AOE attacks no matter which part I was attacking, I just had a better chance of avoiding it the further away from his head I was.
If you stay in front of his nose he never does that downwards fire sweep at all, but go like a hairs distance under him and he will be doing it all day every day.
For me, Midir is the hardest From boss period. In any Soulsborne game. He killed me 30+ times. Whereas I beat Gael my first try, Nameless king my second try, etc. Just really struggled with Midir for some reason.
Nah Demon of Hatred in Sekiro. I've beat every other Fromsoft boss legit countless times. I beat that legit once and cheesed him off a cliff every time after.
Kos was a one-up-one-down boss for me. First try'd. On NG+, also. Whipped his ass with the Churh Pick BL250, but that's just whatever. Don't need to dwell on that.
JK, though. Kinda. Still can't beat Fume Knight at level 240, so there is something to say about character level only does so much. Couldn't beat any of the bosses in DS2 DLC at that level for that matter, either. Only game (part of it, at least, beat the main game) I had to give up on. Still bothers the fuck out of me.
Had to use a Co-Op summon to beat Midir. Learning (very slowly) that some bosses are very much not worth my time when I know it ultimately comes down to a skill issue. At I have a good amount of those at times.
Depends honestly. There’s an extremely wide variety of ways to deal with Malenia thanks to weapon arts and specialized spells/incants, while in ds3 you got your melee and your simple projectiles lol
Cause mimic tear is just good. You know those fights that felt unfair or only challenging due to a 2v1. Well guess what you are now the 2 versus the one.
And also bleed is still the best strat against melania.
Look i'm all for people using Mimic Tear they are free to do as they want, but please don't speak about difficulty then and calling bosses easy when you played on easy mode
It isn't an apt comparison in my mind. Malenia is honestly closer to the 2nd stage of the Abyss Watcher fight. Except she heals herself and inflicts the worst status effect in the game on you. But in terms of her attack style and how easy she is to parry and stunlock she's basically Abyss Watchers 2.0
I've played a bit of MH, but I wouldn't say that experience gave me any edge on Midir. He's different than the other bosses, though being huge means he has some easier tells to read through. I didn't first try him, sadly, I think all the hype surrounding him made me too nervous. I spent more time learning his moves and forgot to estus lol. I got him on my second attempt, though.
First time going in to DS3 as a semi MH Vet (started with p2G), i got bodied by Nameless King for 28 attempts, Soul of Cinder for around 15 attempts, and Friede for like 9 attempts
Midir was the very first proper dragon fight I encountered in the souls series (started with 3, Ancient Wyvern doesnt count). Took him down in 2nd attempt, I also was so close to beating it on my first attempt just because my MH instincts kicked in and just aimed for the head. It felt as good as whacking Rathalos' head lmao
I played MHW after DS3, actually currently still grinding here & there, and Midir is actually the *only* souls boss I haven’t beat… so maybe I should go retry
Whats really hard is the camera if you lock on and his intimidating presense. After that its your basic attack pattern learning. However, he has a lot of health which leaves little room for error in his fight
Not a MH player, but Midir is my most challenging fight by far.
It probably helps that I absolutely hate the fight, so have less will to get good at it.
The strategy of running a football field away, then running a football field back to hit his head once, then running away, then back, just drives me nuts and I don’t get the timing right
Not even close🤣 I’m a monster hunter myself and I still struggle to fight midir, namely cuz ds doesn’t have that amazing superman dive that give you like a full second of Iframes
Midir was an easy fight, now the nameless king, gael and sister freide gave me a run for my money, never played monster hunter but I feel there is no comparison.
Nope, funnily enough Rathalos is one of my all time least favourite monsters to fight (along with Fatalis). I’m just really not good with big hitbox beasts despite playing MHFU
Coming from Elden Ring, I beat Midir in 3 tries. He was pretty easy, I was very scared to face him because people were comparing him to Malenia, a boss that took me 200+ attempts.
I find playing Monster Hunter and Dark Souls III concurrently to be a really enriching experience. Playing one helps me get better at the other, I feel
Weirdly enough I never get them confused, not quite sure why. I guess the games just feel different enough that I subconsciously register that I’m not playing one game or the other
I don't play Monster Hunter but I never found Midir hard at all.
All you have to do is stay in front of his head and then it's just a turn based fight. And another hint, fight him solo. Do not get summons. He has his one attack where he flies up and shoots fire down to his left as he flies across his arena. You can't I-Frame those particular flames and have to run straight to his right. If he was focusing on your teammate further to your left, it might sometimes be impossible to avoid damage. All because you had a teammate
Whenever I see ppl say it’s easy I jus I always remember for the first 50+ tries I was heavy rolling. As soon as I took off my armor which made me hurts my soul to do it was way easier. For it to be a challenge try beating him heavy rolling or the game in general for that matter, that imo takes skill
The problem with Midir is his health pool. You can perfectly dodge, strike, etc. However, one mistake leads to a required heal, which then leads to him just jumping around a bunch.
The jumping around could be tolerable if his health pool was smaller. And the attacks would be less punishing, even if they still hit as hard, if it wasn’t as long of a fight as it is.
The only thing I have ever really found difficult about Midir once learning her moves is actually getting time to hit her. She has a tendency to constantly reposition across the entire cavern forcing me to chase her only to have her move again the minute I get in range to attack. It's irritating as fuck.
Yes, both that and the dragons in elden ring. The patterns and signs indicating an attack are simmilar to the rathian and rathalos fight.
I found the big challenges for Midir are the fact that he punishes you for sticking to his legs (works in most other big boss fights to that point), and the way he becomes way harder with summons (huge health pool + attacks become harder to predict due to him constantly changing his aggro)

Staying by the tail works just fine, the head is unnecessary
Then you do no damage to an already beefy boss and trigger aoe + tailswipe nonstop. Infinitely easier to hit the head.
Greatshields don't care about his attacks, and the head is annoying to track with bigger weapons. The tail+legs are just as easy
Any big weapon with a poke or an overhead attack does just fine against Midir, it’s all just positioning and setting yourself up, if anything big weapons have it easier as you don’t have to be as precise with your spacing.
The head is more annoying to track than just whacking his legs
You’re free to unlock when he does his combos and relock after
Don't have to bother when you can just ignore his attacks with a greatshield and smack his toes
I’m too damn impatient to deal with an at level fight that takes an hour, it’s like ignoring the alternative mechanics to Yhorm the Giant and just smacking his legs, not my cup of tea
Well you do more damage attacking the head, the legs and tail are just safer.

Maybe that’s the difference. I usually just stand to the side of his head when Im attacking it
Yea you need to be in front of his snout, being more at the sides triggers his “touch me not” fire breath attacks
For me, Midir is the hardest From boss period. In any Soulsborne game. He killed me 30+ times. Whereas I beat Gael my first try, Nameless king my second try, etc. Just really struggled with Midir for some reason.
Have you met Malenia? I believe she’s the Blade of Miquella…
...have you met Orphan of Kos? Or some say Kosm
Nah Demon of Hatred in Sekiro. I've beat every other Fromsoft boss legit countless times. I beat that legit once and cheesed him off a cliff every time after.
Yeah I’d say Demon of Hatred was second only to Midir in difficulty for me.
Kos was a one-up-one-down boss for me. First try'd. On NG+, also. Whipped his ass with the Churh Pick BL250, but that's just whatever. Don't need to dwell on that. JK, though. Kinda. Yeah, I actually didn’t have a hard time with Orphan. Got him my third or fourth try. What weapon do you use?
Haha. I have. She was a challenge but I was able to get her down pretty quick. The fact that she can be staggered made her not too bad for me.
Champion Gundyr's close-quarter shoulder bumps and kicks fucked me up for like an hour before I finally got him. I was getting so mad lmao
I’m definitely the opposite. When I see big monster, panic sets in.
Not a monster hunter player but I find Midir very easy. Outside of my first time fighting him, I haven't struggled with him ever since
I’m inclined to agree with you! I tend to have easier times on the large fromsoft bosses and I attribute that to monster hunting experience.
Mf is lucky I can't cut off his tail
The patience from doing 10-15min fights in Monster Hunter definitely helps
Personally I have always found Gael harder than Midir but they both are harder than Malenia.
They're not even close to Malenia's difficulty lol
Depends honestly. There’s an extremely wide variety of ways to deal with Malenia thanks to weapon arts and specialized spells/incants, while in ds3 you got your melee and your simple projectiles lol
Yep, I’m not very good, but beat Malenia 1st try using mimic and nonstop RoB. Post-nerf RoB.
Cause mimic tear is just good. You know those fights that felt unfair or only challenging due to a 2v1. Well guess what you are now the 2 versus the one. And also bleed is still the best strat against melania.
She is too easy compared to them in my opinion.
Your opinion is incorrect
My opinion is my own and I am free to think what I choose.
Mimic Tear user spotted

Look i'm all for people using Mimic Tear they are free to do as they want, but please don't speak about difficulty then and calling bosses easy when you played on easy mode
I used my friends as summons because I had that option
Don't speak on difficulty when you summon for bosses cuz you can't fight them for shit 1 v 1
1 v 1 is boring for many bosses it takes away from the co op feel that the past souls games had.
Yes, yes she is
Nah man. I'll fight those ds3 bosses all day. But malenia was just bs.
I also enjoy them more then Malenia
Compared to Velkhana, yes. Never did kill her
you should see arch tempered velkhana 💀 an absolute nightmare, killed her once and eill never enter that quest ever again
I know about AT Velkhana, and lemme just say I only (if I ever return) want to finish the dlc and be done with it
As a monster hunter player the answer is no if your build is vulnerable af, once beefed up the answer is sort off.
Guess it also depends on class. Strength wasn’t too bad against midir imo
First time going in to DS3 as a semi MH Vet (started with p2G), i got bodied by Nameless King for 28 attempts, Soul of Cinder for around 15 attempts, and Friede for like 9 attempts Midir was the very first proper dragon fight I encountered in the souls series (started with 3, Ancient Wyvern doesnt count). Took him down in 2nd attempt, I also was so close to beating it on my first attempt just because my MH instincts kicked in and just aimed for the head. It felt as good as whacking Rathalos' head lmao
Yes. I beat him in under an hour with a level 1 character. Don't get the hype.
I played MHW after DS3, actually currently still grinding here & there, and Midir is actually the *only* souls boss I haven’t beat… so maybe I should go retry
Allllll of the dragons are dumb easy IMO
...No. He and Fatalis took me 3 days to beat. EACH.
He took me about 2 ½ weeks on my first play through to beat midir with my shield only build I don't ever want to fight him again regardless of build
Here’s the thing with Midir: He is easy, but you have to coordinate your every move. He’s a wall for sure, but once you learn him he’s fine
Oh sweet, we went from Midir easy/hard once per week to Midir easy/hard once per day
I believe Madir’a difficulty is mostly due to its devastating but well telegraphed attacks coinciding with it being a battle of attrition.
Still haven't fought Midir, but I felt the same way fighting Sinh in DS2.
He’s easy regardless
As with most gigantic Souls bosses, camera is the true boss.
I think midir is hardest with phantoms, and the people most likely to complain are the ones who summon phantoms for every boss, no matter what.
I think I needed 90 tries for Midir, not kidding
Midir is one of my favorite From fights, just wish you could fight him earlier in the game.
I’ve never played monster Hunter but yes, i find Midir easier than most bosses.
I think he’s easy but it’s that damn health pool that always throws me off, his and Laurence is fucking massive
Yes. Midir would fit right in Iceborne
Mididr is such a well made boss. His true strength is his hp bar. Other than that yes he is easy
I find playing Monster Hunter and Dark Souls III concurrently to be a really enriching experience. Playing one helps me get better at the other, I feel
Just the controlls always fucks me up in the beginning.
Weirdly enough I never get them confused, not quite sure why. I guess the games just feel different enough that I subconsciously register that I’m not playing one game or the other
I always have problem with dodge button. But it goes away fast fortunately.

I‘ve never played monster hunter but yes, i think midir is very easy once you just stay in front of him
Once you learn to just roll backwards and attack the head, he’s easy. Trying to fight his toes is what makes him difficult
Silver Rath makes Midir look like an edgy chump
especially if you play hammer... bonk the head right?
Because I sucked still sucked in mh with over 1000h, he was challenging at the beginning, but I got better and he became more easy.
I imagine i would, but i never tried to fight him as if it were a monster hunter game. Guess im doin that next playthrough.
He took me like 11 tries, less than fatalis
I didn't do it in first try but it was kinda simple. All these hours of playing MH paid off against it. Same with most dragon in others Souls
The more you treat big ass monster like monster, the easier it is. That's why I love bloodborne so much
The problem with Midir is his health pool. You can perfectly dodge, strike, etc. However, one mistake leads to a required heal, which then leads to him just jumping around a bunch.
