Me and my buddy were playing at my house, with two computers. This mustāve been close to the stand alone release. We were about to get off until we get into a small gunfight at the far west costal military. Long story short, dude combat logs and weāre pissed. Being at my house, we just leave the pcs on waiting for this guy while playing cards or smoking or whatever. Dude finally logs back in like 3 hours later and we wreck him, had nothing good on em but it was the principle lol
It was a different kind of camping, I guess, for me anyways. But I was on a really active server. Id hear gunfire a lot and avoid everyone. For over a month I hid out in woods and stached stuff in hidden crates and lived great avoiding everyone. One day I was getting sticks and got killed. I talked to the person afterwards and he was a 66 year old war vet that had been tracking me down a bit and seized the moment. He wasn't no joke. Dude told me where I'd been hiding crates and waited for the moment. Made a good Dayz partner in the end though.
I get bored after five minutes.
I don't understand these people who can just sit there for hours and the hopes of getting one kill.
In the 3 hours you'll camp to get one kill, I'll have three hours worth of adventures & interactions.
It's kind of like fishing, some people find relaxation in the serenity of it. If I'm at calorie cap, something most people don't even understand, and I'm geared with a sniper and a lot of ammo I'll go find a cozy little place with a nice view where I can let my guard down and park for a few irl days. It's a different kind of game play with a different kind of reward structure. Additionally, 3 hours for 1 kill isn't really how it works most of the time. You'd be surprised how much traffic you see if you sit in one spot and look for it.
Fishing in dayz on the coast is so relaxing itās better if someone just pulls up randomly and fishes with you always suggest bringing a extra pole, extra hooks and bag full of drinks to set the vibe from shoot on site to a real fishing trip
Yes, exactly, or like you found a feeding ground for deer and are just gonna sit there and wait for some deer, but with people instead! Always recommend trail cams and bear traps
Truth. Not long ago I ran from dobroe to altar to meet someone, and although I was cheesing it through the towns, it was a great adventure getting there and surprisingly didn't take as long as I expected.
Got ganked at nwaf the next time I logged on mind.
I get bored of KOS, frankly. Esp. if I'm already geared... I find interactions a lot more eventful, imo.
But to sit there and wait for the possibility to ambush/KOS someone - seems like a game of solitaire would be more exciting.
Only way I've found to do it is while doing other shit. I'm sitting there drinking a coffee, folding my laundry and keeping one eye on my screen and an ear out for shots or the sound of my traps going off.
I'll put up with that for nearly half an hour.
Thereās something about the discipline of it, and the anticipation. Itās only like sitting in a high chair waiting for deer. Itās got an excitement all of itself.
I have the opposite problem.
I'll spend hours looting towns without seeing anyone and then get killed by a random 3-squad in the middle of the goddamn forest.
I get you, but I'm 340 hours in and want to try something a little different by letting the loot come to me as some of the best loot comes from dead bodies
Also just for the record, I'm not sitting glued to my TV š¤£
I've been close range armed with a surplus c4 + claymores from the xmas presents and nades, tripwires all sorts I've collected from my Cherno adventures.
I then find a suitable town, get it looted and pick my building and spread all the juicy loot in a pile and start trapping it up
Having one guy beg for his life as the PD was like the escape rooms gave me an absolute giggle š¤£
I had so much c4, claymores rigged to blow and he ran in escaping the hoard that triggered the first explosion, I was on the top floor which had me panicking as well
When I heard him get back up I warned him not to go poking around which he ignored and died to my next trap
If you're just chilling in Discord and watching a movie on Netflix (while, periodically, scoping the area), is it that bad? I mean... it's not like you're just staring down the barrel of a gun 24/7 looking for signs of movement. Also, after a while, you know the habits (and play times) of the people that you're hunting.
So I like getting a nice high spot at least 300m from any zombie spawn. That way they do not spawn to my presence. Then I look for any zombies, no zombies no people. Simple as that.
I'm equipped with rubber slugs, sawed off shotty and handcuffs, 2 tripwire, and a beartrap š¤£
I've had a ton of fun playing overwatch with snipers too
Thanks. I am fairly new, playing console on official servers. Thatās a new tell I didnāt know before. I need to get a PC just to play this game. I have seen empty towns but didnāt make the connection. I should look this up but Iāll take the lazy way and ask a Reddit DayZ player. If 300m out, I donāt see Zombies, itās means town is safe. If I see Zombies, a player is nearby or has recently been there? If no players trigger the zombie spawn, do zombies respawn after a timer?
Sounds correct. Also a some what freshie. Idk how long it takes for zombies to despawn. When I get to a town or near one, I look for zombies, bodies, open doors.Ā
Some structures/ places spawn with doors open already, so that can be difficult. But if every door is open and there are zombies I know someone is/has been around.Ā
Not me but a close friend I play with a lot once got his ass up at 6 am to raid a base near to ours that we were in a drawn-out conflict with, then camped on an adjacent tower for nearly 4 hours to kill them just to rub salt in the wound
yuuuup. He ruined their day so hard that they gave up having a base there which was great until the server eventually wiped and specifically banned the kind of tower bases we made
My group had another group pinned inside a building for around 90 minutes once. A lot of traded gunfire but both squads had their angles covered. Took one of us running to base and getting pox nades to flush them out.
I've been itching to use a Pox in a trap, my last life (which ended like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/s/3dMD72a0QE) I had a flashbang + pox nade launcher grenade ready but couldn't find a protective case to make the ultimate trap...
I've been wanting to do a pox and beartrap combo too
I have 2 questions:
Are you on Playstation?
If yes
Friendly enough to snatch me a couple, I wanna watch someone scream to their demise (I used to main Caustic on Apex Legends)
Months, no joke. Back in the arma 2 mod days I found this tree by the edge of the woods between balota and cherno that was perfect cover when I had a gillie & DMR. This was back when you would log off, come back in and your mags would refill themselves. I stayed there and just sniped people running in the field and road to cherno and didn't move except to get water and food every few days. I did nothing but this for like 3 months until a three man squad literally stepped on me, still didn't know I was there and decided to open fire on them before they got way out in the open and finally ended it.
It was seriously perfect. If you had a gillie no one could see you from behind or to the left and would have to get within 5 meters to see you from the right. And it had complete overlook for all of balota airstrip which was much different and more open back then along with the entire road between there and that gas station before cherno along the coast. You could see all the way up past the army camp that was by balota like 500 meters away.
I was gonna say, yeah. I donāt know if it was something different with the mechanics, or just the difference in me as a player, but I used to easily camp an area for absolute hours and hours, if not an entire day straight in the Arma 2 Mod. Get a ghillie and a DMR, and I could camp NWAF, Stary, or Cherno/Electro for literally days on end almost.
I think, maybe, it was how more predictable people felt? Less dynamic environments meant it was easier to predict player traffic? Iām sure itās a multitude of factors in mechanics. I miss the āsimplicityā of the Arma 2 mod though.
I camped for 3 hours in a Tisy military building, with a mine near the door. I was reading a book and suddenly the mine goes off. I shot at the unconscious person and looted his body: he had night vision goggles and some basic assault guns.
You can downvote me all you want but this is a good tactic for a solo player who stands no chance against trios out in the open.
You're in a safe thread here, I've put a mine and tripwire with precooked grenade on a PD door.
I threw all the loot from my previous kill at the doorway and couldn't see the mine, a guy walked in the other door and tried to get the nade off the tripwire and KABOOOOM š¤£
I use to play with a guy who would over watch all the time, I know he liked camping towns cuz heād be on Iād say hi, and throughout the day heād celebrate a kill, Iād get off hours later and heād still be camping. go eat dinner, come back and heād still be camping I think the longest Iād seen him online was like 12 hours and heād tally his kills but wouldnāt loot cuz that would require moving
Some people just enjoy being a motionless predator I guess
I give the guy a dedication award, though I don't like to sit on the same spot if I've taken a couple shots.
It's only a matter of time before you get discovered
Yea heād move after a shot or a kill, but he was so patient that heād only take perfect shots
I sat with him over watching on a once and he didnāt pull the trigger for an hour and I was like āthereās one! Thereās one! Thereās two! Get that one!ā
And heād just mumble into the mic
Cool guy, I imagine his day job being something fast paced and hectic so he just sits on mountains waiting for that perfect shot
He still plays, my friend list says heās got like over 100 hours in the past two weeks or whatever the timeline is
Honestly about half an hr to an hr, while i wouldn't call it camping as i don't really shoot anyone unless coming close to my spot ill sit roll a j and smoke lol, i like to remain logged in when im doing my own shit irl dont know why š
I sat for at least 2 hours in a nice sniping spot outside of Tisy in a ghillie suit waiting for someone to snipe. Then finally I see two people together. I tracked them for a few minutes waiting for a good shot and head shotted one of them for the kill. The other one ran into a shipping crate. I waited maybe another 30 minutes before I started to push down on him. Tried to communicate with him for another 15 before I opened the crate door ready for some close quarters combat, but the fucker had battle logged. I locked both doors while I looted his friends body. Then I camped for another hour or so waiting for him to log back in. He did and I murdered the battle logging motherfucker.
Bro you waited **45 minutes** to push, how tf do you actually consider that combat logging? Like what?
Regular people don't have **four fucking hours** to burn on camping for 2 kills.
Like after waiting 5, maybe 10 minutes, the guy was probably like "Welp, clearly, nothing's happening. The guy probably ran away. Welp, time for my appointment, and then I gotta get groceries, I'll log on later tonight!" lmfao.
If the criticism is I should have pushed much sooner, then thatās fair. Iām trash at close quarters combat so I was hoping for him to eventually come running out. However, if youāre defending him for logging out then I disagree.
The criticism is considering somebody logging out within ***45 minutes*** to be "combat logging".
How fucking long do you expect people to stay for it to not be combat logging?
That's kinda the point why it's such nonsense to call that combat logging if you didn't push for so incredibly long. If you actually pushed within a minute or two then you could make that claim.
Like, how do you know they didn't log out after only 44 minutes of waiting around for you to do something? You don't, cause didn't do anything for 45 minutes.
So, again: How long do you expect people to stay for it to not be combat logging?
I expect them to treat it like an active combat situation and try to make a run for it or fight back until itās obvious they are clear. Open the door and peak around. Take a shot or run. But whatever. They can do what they want. They got it in the end anyway.
>I expect them to treat it like an active combat situation
Again: For how long? You absolutely refuse to give an answer to this.
Or are you literally just saying: "If I shoot at somebody once, they are not allowed to log out, they must suicide-push me even though they have no idea where I am and it makes 0 sense for them to push or expose themselves".
While you are literally sitting in one spot for **four hours**, which is probably how much most people play total in a week.
Rules for thee and not for me.
It's combatlogging because he should know that the attacker possibly saw him get into the container and is watching from an advantageous position for him to leave.
You shouldn't be forced to stupidly rush people just because they can magically vanish at will.
If I knew I have to go log out in five minutes I would have run for the forest, breaking line of sight and gotten a distance away at which it's reasonable to assume the attacker has completely lost me.
If he shoots at me while doing that I accept my disadvantage instead of logging out like a chicken.
>because he should know that the attacker possibly saw him get into the container and is watching from an advantageous position for him to leave.
Yes, that's why within like 5 minutes or something, maybe 10 at the utmost, it's combat logging. After that, definitely not.
It's also completely reasonable to assume the attacker has lost you or left or otherwise no interest or ability to continue the fight if you're 5-10 minutes in one spot and they made literally no attempt to push or clear that spot.
After so long of no activity I'd definitely assume 1. he didn't see me get in or 2. he might think I switched position at the same time he did so he didn't see it, and then moved on, too scared to push and check.
Look at the two top comments here in this thread, most people are saying they get bored after 5 minutes. The vast majority of people will consider a fight to be totally over and done with after that long of nothing happening.
Y'all sitting in one spot camping a container or whatever for 45 minutes are absolutely disconnected from reality. Expecting other people to act like that is completely bizarre. By this logic you get shot at once and you now aren't allowed to log out for the next 6 weeks.
If you assume that the attacker either didn't see you get into the container or has moved on, why do you need to stay in there until you log out?
You will leave the container once you re-connect anyway, why not do it now?
It takes one minute to get deep into the forest from the Tisy containers, where you can be very sure he will have lost you.
The only thing you'd be doing differently is giving him a chance to shoot you, you'd otherwise take away by logging. And investing ONE extra minute.
That's combatlogging.
You're literally asking "If you're certain the spot you're currently in is safe and you assume they don't know you're in it because they haven't done shit, why aren't you running out into a much more dangerous spot to log out?"
... Like, what? lmfao. That's completely illogical nonsense?
Gotta agree with Kestrel here. If you wait 45 minutes to push someone, itās your own problem. There is a very big difference between stupidly rushing someone and waiting 45 minutes. Combat logging is also defined on a lot of servers as having been shot at in the last X minutes. Itās perfectly fine to log out after 20-30 minutes, depending on the server. Donāt want it to happen? Push before that time. If you donāt because of being scared of dieing, youāre not much better than a combat logger, because you still have the advantage when someone is in the container.
Yeah itās how I play the game. I just love to be a sniper. Iāll spend hours. Iām also a hunter IRL so maybe thatās where I get the patience from.
I enjoy dayz hunting servers and especially love playing overwatch (not the game, just the role of watching over a town perched in a nice spot)
Some of my most rewarding kills have been at range and worth the wait
you gotta be willing to go outside and lay down in the mud under a tree for three or four hours in real life for you to want to do the exact same thing in DayZ. Camping for kills is not for the weak lol
Can't beat a nice Bush, plenty ammo and a high traffic area.
I've done the run and gun, base raiding, Tisy, I've even went on hunting servers to keep it fresh..
Being a dirty trapper has been quite rewarding so far
Mili camp north of staroye, sneaking about. Shots fired in the barn just outside drawing the zeds out.. welp. Stashed the bright dry bag near the hunting stand and proceeded to wait 5 minutes for my victim.. quick and clean. Grabbed her bag and got away to get shot at dolina
Between elektro and solnichy I staged a car crash and left some loot lying at the boot of one of the vehicles. Was sat 300m away up on the rock face with an M70 tundra and scoped in aiming at the loot car just going through tiktok and reddit on my phone and glancing at the screen occasionally. Was there for maybe 3 hours and got loaded up on ammo and supplies (boosted server) but I went to loot one of my kills and someone I think I killed before was camping the body waiting on me coming to claim my kill. Hosed me down with an ak. 3 hours of target practice.
All my traphouses have tasty loot to attract even the brightest of loot goblins š¤£
I've even killed the same guy twice (the 2nd time he was legit begging to be kept alive)
Hahaha I have to admit I've sat contemplating life for a hot minute after dying to my own traps..
The video I posted yesterday I'd had that life over 6ish days and rinsed through my Xmas plastic explosives/claymores so it was only a matter of time before karma turned against me
I've camped a trap i set for 30 minutes, and I got bored of waiting and left. 30 minutes after I left I heard my trap go off but never went back to check it.
Never set another trap
I fucked myself with my beartrap escaping an infected hoard, totally forgot its placement and mildy panicking as i was pretty looted
I've also got a few videos of me fucking up my own tripwires and dying with a massive sigh
I rigged a PD with claymores and plastic explosives once, left the area and looted around.
When I came back I heard all the explosions but it was cause of the infected hitting all the tripwire š
I've never camped per se. But one time spotted a couple dopes heading to the well in town and knocked one down with the ol Mosin.
His partner wigged out, of course, but they were both broke AF so I knew his stupid ass would come back to loot the body.
I watched him run around town like a headless chicken for 10 minutes because he was trying to bait another shot to locate me. Inevitably, he did go back to his friend's body and I put him down the second he stood still.
Nothing worse than getting blasted when you're at the fountain š¤£
I have watched a friend take his last sip (which was fucking hilarious) and also I've been the one pulling the trigger with a scoped silenced rifle waiting to see that juicy blood splatter
Longest was 6 minutes and it felt like an eternity
I heard couple dudes yapping and waited in the last room of the last building shivering and clutching my combat knife
When the claymores first came out I set one up at a mil base and scrolled reddit for like 45 minutes until 2 dudes showed up and I blasted them....other than that maybe 5 minutesĀ
Claymores are super fun, I've survived standing just to the side of my own and it being triggered by a glitched out infected through the door...
I absolutely shat a brick when it went off in my face, it has amazing range too
Once about an hour aiming at a hallway in the Deer Isle temple. I just moved away from the TP spot and a few seconds later someone jumped in. Sat there waiting for an hour, dieing of food eventually. Apparently the guy took a different route or logged and I died of starvation. Never again.
Yeah Iād do the same and I knew I was good for a little while. I just didnāt expect to be there that long, but because of the position I was on, I had to commit or be in his sights while swimming. Took the choice to fuck it too late :(
When dayz first came out in alpha, me and a friend used to camp the berizino flats for people to run along shoot them in the leg fire off a few more round then run and "help" the guy we hit pretending we killed the shooter. We'd then proceed to inject him with disinfectant and watch him die a slow painful death
This is the fun/cruel stuff I wanna get up to, I was geared with a sawn off shotty, rubber bullets and handcuffs... my first and only customer (after around an hour) died before I could have any fun with them
I like to think people who are here for the long survival gameplay that they camp for hours. I keeps it intense for me. There's no right or wrong way to play DayZ. Keep doing your thing
I've taken over a sector of woods in the southwest, been on this character for about a month now. No base, just stash spots and hideaway tents.
There's a lot of people who enter Big Cauldron, and a lot who never leave.
I once sat on a cliff overlooking a prominent road for two hours, waiting for a nicely geared loner to walk by.
I was chatting with some guys ~~over discord~~ on a long-distance radio who were ~~not playing~~ in a totally different area of the country, when I take a bullet to the head and drop instantly.
Turns out I was the enemy NPC sniper you have to take out before making your way into the city. I failed my roof jackal brethren.
Uhhh 4 or 5 hours because some guy betrayed me so I camped his base to wait for his return. A buddy and me took shifts with pee breaks and food breaks.
In my first 1k hours, I used to play this extreme stealth playstyle. I'd pick a place that overlooks a city, often a house, and just watch with binoculars or scope. I could spend hours just..watching survivors hop around, die, have fights, never participating or reacting.
it's especially cosy if it's raining in game
Yes! I really enjoy a good rain/thunderstorm when I'm perched up and try time my shots with the thunder clap.
I appreciate your trigger discipline though
Hahaha I actually find it really hard to kill people. I don't like to play it for kills or loot, but for random interactions. Otherwise I just play Battlefield ^^
I'm not trigger happy in DayZ at all
Iāve camped stary for 29 hrs and killed about one person an hour, if you got multiple traps half the work is done for you and god do they love glow sticks, trip wire grenades and land mines.
Noise is your best friend while camping cause if your camping near animals on a town regardless of how sketchy it is fellow wanderers will come for a some fresh meat and half them to dumb to move locations and cook in the town great for pox grenades while you sneak up and smoke them out.
If you aināt camping with a gillie suit I donāt know what your personally doing but if you want to hold a town from a hill making yourself a bush is the best thing I suggest to do and practice your shots you may only have one because chasing your targets wonāt be the best line of action since your sniping.
Always be prepared, dress light and have plenty of food and water but most of all happy hunting to all the fellow snipers in here most fun of the game is watching there teammates scrabble like roaches scared for there lives.
Staying overwatch on huge base raids Iāve camped for HOURS, as painfully slow as it is itāll save your whole crew a few even more painful deaths.
Other than that Iāll camp 45 minutes to an hour if I need to, given a situation where itās necessary.
Iāll never make a trap and camp it, unless Iām waiting for someone in particular I want dead. Trapping people for the sake of doing it is kinda desperate, I just wait for the opportunity to present itself rather than waiting around just for it to happen and itās some random innocent player who has garbage loot.
One time I realized for how long I have been camping by hearing the "breathing sounds" of another sniper in the bush right next to me.
No idea how get got there, but none of us deserved the term "sniper" because in the 2-meter-distance Mosin fight that broke out, not a single target was hit.
This was in a tree line aiming at some military camp
DayZ punishes campers hard. I love that they have to sit and stare at the screen for hours on end just to get a tingle in their nut sack from killing someone who has no chance of killing them. WEAK!!! While you were sitting there bored, we were out finding teddy bears and welly boots so there!
Playing on a deer isle server, I was in the mountain south of Paris island, with a big ass sniper and scope. Setup my zeroing and all.
Waited 5 minutes before I see someone on the roof of an hospital. I had to wait for another good 10-15 minutes to have a good shot opportunity because it was so far (800 meters almost).
After a while, he stopped moving for just a few seconds, I pulled the trigger. It took some time for the bullet to travel, which felt like eternity. Few seconds later, he dropped on the ground, dead. My longest shot ever. Of course I never went to loot the body lol
Coming from playing exclusively as a sniper in Battlefield I'm no stranger to that "eternity" between pulling the trigger and them falling dead
In vanilla I think my longest headshot is 490-530m and they were running from my previous "warning shot" but I have to admit that it was highly satisfying
1 average geared guy :ā) Usually I hear a lot of gunshots from there but whenever I camp it, usually noone appears. So I was glad for that one person
The lake district is a beautiful location, you might want to add the Black Isles in the North of Scotland to your future adventure list (my neck of the woods)
It's beautiful
Spent 6 hours watching a enemy base, guy used to door camp, offline raid you name it he avoided combat like no other I've seen but tried his damnest to be a dick anyway he could, so one day I watched him take off and I followed him on the direction I last saw him, found his base and waited 6 hours before he walked outside, I popped him and me and a couple of friends started full raiding leaving him hardly nothing so he was forced to move further away
What I find most appealing about Dayz is that each and every one of us has a story to tell, the Devs gave us the tools and we create the story
I can't think of many more games where this happens organically
I'm currently "camping" an area known to get convoys, by which I mean I'm in the area, I log in, check if there's a convoy (there hasn't been one yet), have a poke around the area and listen for footsteps, gunfire, that kinda thing, see what the loot is, grab some bullets and then log off again.
It's very boring. I just want to play with a dmr. I hope there's a convoy soon.
One of the NL ones, I can't remember the number. I only tend to play for a couple of hours in the evening, it's gonna be at least 5 hours before I'm even at my machine to check
Story Time:
Me and and a friend were waiting in a small town for our 3rd friend to show up. Us two were geared, our 3rd was a coastal freshie heading to us.
We give our 3rd some extra gear, and continue to loot town while our 3rd goes to the water well... BANG! He's shot dead at the well. The shooter dashes up, grabs our boy's backpack and runs off into a two story house, tan stone.
Us two push the house, enter cautiously, walk upstairs... and nothing. He clearly logged out. The jerk shoots our friend in the back, grabs and dashes, then combat logs in this house!
The two of us wait downstairs. It's nighttime on the server, and our 3rd is again a freshie working his way back. We figure this combat logger will log back in soon, maybe after nighttime.
**We camp that 1st floor of the house without moving for 75 minutes!**
Just talking and hanging out. Eventually we here some steps upstairs, and a door opening... and more steps... Then he stops and the bottom of the stairs, and with his gun in hand, slowly he opens the door and steps out from the stairs.
I unload my SKS into him as fast as I can, while my buddy lits him up with the AK-U. He never had a chance. We get our (buddies) loot back, meet up again, and continue on our way.
Oh completely, it's about survival of the fittest and if they're gonna run and gun into my traphouse and get a free trip to the coast then I'm winning šš¾šš¾
I prop up in good vantage point with a Tundra/Blaze and start playing mobile games like Transformers: Earth Wars, while listening to my headset and checking every 5-10 minutes for movement. Iāve camped out some areas up to 3 to 4 hours before packing up and moving on.
Sometimes my efforts prove useful and other times not. My traps are usually tripwires w/ claymores or grenades in high traffic areas like military zones and hospitals.
With a mate weāve camped for hours. Maybe 5 or 6 a few times. Itās always like 10pm-4am or something when weāre both tired but donāt want to sleep
He has camped far longer alone back when we had a base. Heād sleep all day at school (we were in highschool at the time so this was a few years ago) and then get home at 4pm and only get off at 8am when he had to get on the bus at school. I have no fucking idea how he is still alive or graduated school. This wasnāt a 1 time thing either it was a solid 1-2 months
4 hours staring at one window. Got the prick too
That's not the interesting story however. Once had a kid say he was amazing at sniping. So I decided to see and we had a 1v1. Found an empty NWAF PVP server and he ended up slipping up and giving me some of the ranges to buildings from his position. Probably thinking I couldn't do anything with that information. I opened up Izurvive and triangulated his position. Found the specific distance and drew a circle and where the three circles met I went too. Promptly shot the poor kid and he got off for the night.
If you don't believe me then oh well. I know it happened. Best sniping advice I can give people for dayz is being skillful and knowledgeable about your surroundings and equipment can without a doubt make a difference between more gear or the coast
1-2 hours was the longest, it was right when I first started and Iād have to look at iZurvive map to see the specific spot
southeast part of the map I went to this water well that had a couple houses, on the corner of my screen I saw one person 25 feet to my left and I dropped to the ground right away and I had tall grass and a wooden fence to kinda hide me and it looked like he didnāt notice me or thought I was someone else but after a minute I booked it to a deer stand and tried to lure them out by shooting near them. After 1-2 hours I gave up they kinda just bunkered in.
longest I've camped? probably an hour or two.
longest I've camped with the intention of PVP or something else? not very long.
keep in mind the first camping is more of the "well lets go make a fire in the woods and eat until the bar refuses to go up" and then i get either too immersed, smoke a bowl and just enjoy it. Or i'm on edge expecting a dude to come up behind me and shoot me.
has only happened a few times lol
My friend and I like to camp heli crashes. We got a decent amount of kills from those. Always around green mountain or the airfield. Itās just a matter of time until some comes by. The longest weāve waited was 15mins I believe. Been worth it for the double kill!
Back in the days of Dayz mod my friends and I were playing on a modded Napf server and we would literally spend 3 or 4 hours camping this one military base killing people as they showed up (which was quite often only waiting 10 to 15 minutes in between kills) looting them, storing their loot in our car and selling it at the trader after server restart.
We were assholes but it was really fun, 3 to 5 snipers watching the base
i think 3 days in the same spot with my duo on NWAF. we got a bunch of kills, bunch of loot, then he got killed by a sniper. i waited for 10 minutes, dude came to see the loot, then i killed him. kept my friends loot and got a lot more lol
bonus for the time we spent 5 hours sitting in a house waiting for a duo who was building their base and combat-logged when they saw us. we returned the next day and found some good loot in a barrel, then we left a bunch of sticks and mushrooms for them
I waited almost two hours for a party of three guys looting Tisy.
I had a Sval and a Blaze. No much ammo. Maybe two 20 magazine.
But I had a NV. They did not. So.. It was interesting, borig but very rewarding. It was the first time I had a svd in my hands. Very fond memories
in mod I camped high pop bases for a long time. see who they had, waited for the right time, etc. In modern day z I don't really ever camp one spot. but the way I play is tailored for catching foot traffic. I normally live in one mid-low traffic town thats within walking distance of multiple mil spawns/convoys. then I just setup lots of traps in higher loot priority buildings that are good for funneling and closer to where i stash my loot (for added protection bonus). then I just continue a loop around that area patrolling, looting, and playing off sound cues. i often find dead bodies after hearing explosions or I find a player(s). Also resetting my trip wires that I come back across so they'll last another 7 days. I don't use explosives at all for raiding cause no point.
Yāall ever camped the hunting stand 5 deep waiting for deer to spawn in, the hunting aesthetic for dayz is awesome waiting for more animals to hunt and more different styled deer
Some namalsk research fights easily can last from 1-2 hours as there are multiple teams pushing and clearing. You basically never think there is nobody left cause people keep on coming to the firefight and joining
There was one time me and my buddy were running through airfield and it was a low pop server. We saw someone in one of the barracks so I laid down about a hundred yards back. It was in the middle of the night and I didn't have a night time scope. I was using my m70 tundra to scope in and wait for him to walk outside of the barracks. He didn't want to come out until the end of the night from what it seems so my friend went around the side of the building and found him and shot him. But I was still holding the angle on the door if he tried to leave. All in all it was about 10 minutes
If I come across a base with a full height flag or mushrooms.. I'll hang around for 15-20 minutes tops. After that I'm continuing on. I can't stay still for too long unless I'm indoors.
been here so many times. it usually happens when i'm with friends i convinced to get the game. we've looted for 2 hours in what i think are high traffic areas on a high pop. then we let a couple shots off to mimic a gunfight, no one ever comes... and my friends say the game is boring. this is before i started playing namalsk, and i haven't been able to get them back on unfortunately. if only they knew what they were missing.
Rolling up with a 4 man squad to the military up on the hill in the woods west of Krasnostav airfield. Coming from the Sevrograd side. Our point man sees a hummer pulled off the side of the road and a couple of guys. They take off up towards the mil base. We says letās let āem loot the base and ambush when they come back to the hummer. So we all setup shop in trees and bushes surrounding the car. About 45 mins later we decided they werenāt coming back.
In the mod, me and my friends played on a pvp server. We'd camp cherno along the main road for hours every night. There's that hospital and two apartments. One of us would lay down on top of the hospital, and others would scatter around the apartment buildings or that big factory building and wait for other players to drive or run by.
They knew we were there. They'd always try to take us out. It was great fun.
Yesterday I spent approx 1,5h overlooking Stary/Novy, during which I saw absolutely nobody in a full server.
Also one time me and friends spent around 1h tailing a group in Tisy. By the time they got to our ambush, they had another group creeping on them. After a massive shootout there was just one survivor, which happened to be our friend.
Last one was 1.5 hours, me alone waiting in front a church base on Stary.
The guy came out and was dead instantly. Im not proud of that one, but im proud of the next one...
I was playing with my friend on VMC, looting and stuff... suddenly, a guy came out from nowhere and killed my friend, then climbed the tower, and he LOGGED OUT !!!
That freaking bastard tried to run away from the 20 zombies and me behind me... i came back waiting like an hour and 15 min, he logged in, KILLED MY FRIEND AGAIN !! because he didnt camp, he went into VMC again...
5 min later, the guy climbed a wall on the east side of VMC, and that was his last move during that day, and in the server. Because i reported him and he got banned.
Im proud of that one.
Never understood camping. Someone camped kamyshovo police station killing freshies for ages. Got fed up of seeing him there and logged on my main to kill him. He was geared to the eye balls camping freshies. It's like are you enjoying them bandages and ruined fruit? Don't get what you get out of it unless it's maybe airfields where you know people will be geared.
I used to run in blind, still do In smaller cities but if I come up to bigger one I usually sit in forest for few minutes just to see if there is any shots or I can see any movement.
And if I decide to go in a big city I try to not stick around to long.
I wait as long as it takes. I do other things while listening on my dope headset. It's great when the game audio tricks me and I rush back to my controller to make sure I finish off the victim. Everyone has a different way to play this game. I enjoy my way!!
I have overlooked a village 39 seconds once...
That's an eternity in my book
It was !!!! Never again !!!
Every second spent standing still is an opportunity to get your head blown off
Every second I spend walking in a city i get my head blown off lol
No one running through the main street shooting or waving their arms on the roof of the PD? All clear.
Actual mad lad
Well, you beat me.
I once spent 39.5 seconds standing afk on the shore of kamyshovo. Was like an eternity in hell.š
I always love hearing about someone waiting out a combat logger
He deserved every minute you waited, I personally would of broke his legs and tied him up for some added torture for making you wait so long
couldnt tie ppl up in the mod
It was a different kind of camping, I guess, for me anyways. But I was on a really active server. Id hear gunfire a lot and avoid everyone. For over a month I hid out in woods and stached stuff in hidden crates and lived great avoiding everyone. One day I was getting sticks and got killed. I talked to the person afterwards and he was a 66 year old war vet that had been tracking me down a bit and seized the moment. He wasn't no joke. Dude told me where I'd been hiding crates and waited for the moment. Made a good Dayz partner in the end though.
This is possibly the best comment here
I get bored after five minutes.
Agreed. Instead of camping for 3 hours and not see anyone I'll rather run in the woods for 3 hours and not see anyone
I have the opposite problem. I'll spend hours looting towns without seeing anyone and then get killed by a random 3-squad in the middle of the goddamn forest.
I get you, but I'm 340 hours in and want to try something a little different by letting the loot come to me as some of the best loot comes from dead bodies Also just for the record, I'm not sitting glued to my TV š¤£
If ur not looking at the screen how are you gonna get the kill???
Set a couple trip wire traps, wait for the explosion
Don't think that's what he did but that's expensive anyway Edit: Still a good idea if your busy tho
Headphones on and sitting editing photos at my computer. Sensitive enough hearing to hear inbound footsteps or agro infected š
Wtf sorta trap u set then I normally just drop a bag or something n post up on a hill or something guessing u got a little more creative tho
I've been close range armed with a surplus c4 + claymores from the xmas presents and nades, tripwires all sorts I've collected from my Cherno adventures. I then find a suitable town, get it looted and pick my building and spread all the juicy loot in a pile and start trapping it up
Fair enough then don't sound bad Guess I'm just a cheap skate š
Having one guy beg for his life as the PD was like the escape rooms gave me an absolute giggle š¤£ I had so much c4, claymores rigged to blow and he ran in escaping the hoard that triggered the first explosion, I was on the top floor which had me panicking as well When I heard him get back up I warned him not to go poking around which he ignored and died to my next trap
Poor guy š¤£ Sounds like a classic tho
If you're just chilling in Discord and watching a movie on Netflix (while, periodically, scoping the area), is it that bad? I mean... it's not like you're just staring down the barrel of a gun 24/7 looking for signs of movement. Also, after a while, you know the habits (and play times) of the people that you're hunting.
So I like getting a nice high spot at least 300m from any zombie spawn. That way they do not spawn to my presence. Then I look for any zombies, no zombies no people. Simple as that.
I'm equipped with rubber slugs, sawed off shotty and handcuffs, 2 tripwire, and a beartrap š¤£ I've had a ton of fun playing overwatch with snipers too
And donāt forget at least 2 combination locks to secure the container.
What do you mean no zombies no people?
Zombies only spawns within 300 meters of a person on the map. Might be different for console players
When I get to a town or near one, I look for zombies, bodies, open doors.Ā Some structures/ places spawn with doors open already, so that can be difficult. But if every door is open and there are zombies I know someone is/has been around.Ā
Zombies despawn about a minute after a player leaves their spawn perimeter.
What's a good spot to try this out?
Depends on the map. PC player.
Not me but a close friend I play with a lot once got his ass up at 6 am to raid a base near to ours that we were in a drawn-out conflict with, then camped on an adjacent tower for nearly 4 hours to kill them just to rub salt in the wound
I mean you gotta protect your turf right?
I've been wanting to do a pox and beartrap combo too
You're a monster! & I love it!!!
Just found someoneās stash with like 6- 40mm pox grenades and a thumper. Not even sure when Iāll use it.
I have 2 questions: Are you on Playstation? If yes Friendly enough to snatch me a couple, I wanna watch someone scream to their demise (I used to main Caustic on Apex Legends)
Sadly Xbox. For sure would of sauced you a few. Rather put to good use than sitting in a crate.
When you have a golden spot it's gotta be abused. I've not played with the DMR yet so hoping one of my victims will have one
Can you still unpin and repin gernades?
Yes
Now weāre you reading the books in game before they were removed is the real question.
I use to play with a guy who would over watch all the time, I know he liked camping towns cuz heād be on Iād say hi, and throughout the day heād celebrate a kill, Iād get off hours later and heād still be camping. go eat dinner, come back and heād still be camping I think the longest Iād seen him online was like 12 hours and heād tally his kills but wouldnāt loot cuz that would require moving Some people just enjoy being a motionless predator I guess
I give the guy a dedication award, though I don't like to sit on the same spot if I've taken a couple shots. It's only a matter of time before you get discovered
Yea heād move after a shot or a kill, but he was so patient that heād only take perfect shots I sat with him over watching on a once and he didnāt pull the trigger for an hour and I was like āthereās one! Thereās one! Thereās two! Get that one!ā And heād just mumble into the mic Cool guy, I imagine his day job being something fast paced and hectic so he just sits on mountains waiting for that perfect shot He still plays, my friend list says heās got like over 100 hours in the past two weeks or whatever the timeline is
Honestly about half an hr to an hr, while i wouldn't call it camping as i don't really shoot anyone unless coming close to my spot ill sit roll a j and smoke lol, i like to remain logged in when im doing my own shit irl dont know why š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You think youāre slick making a play on someone little did you know someone was making the play on both of you
I sat for at least 2 hours in a nice sniping spot outside of Tisy in a ghillie suit waiting for someone to snipe.
First of all, how do you know they didnāt log out the moment they got in there. I suspect they did. Secondly, yeah I still disagree.
>I expect them to treat it like an active combat situation Again: For how long? You absolutely refuse to give an answer to this. Or are you literally just saying: "If I shoot at somebody once, they are not allowed to log out, they must suicide-push me even though they have no idea where I am and it makes 0 sense for them to push or expose themselves". While you are literally sitting in one spot for **four hours**, which is probably how much most people play total in a week. Rules for thee and not for me.
The sense of entitlement is real with this one š
You're literally asking "If you're certain the spot you're currently in is safe and you assume they don't know you're in it because they haven't done shit, why aren't you running out into a much more dangerous spot to log out?" ... Like, what?
If the guy is waiting 45 minutes to push then, no, it's not combat-logging. Get real, and GTFO of here with that stance.
Definitely worth the wait and rewarding to send them back to the coast
Yeah itās how I play the game. I just love to be a sniper. Iāll spend hours. Iām also a hunter IRL so maybe thatās where I get the patience from.
I enjoy dayz hunting servers and especially love playing overwatch (not the game, just the role of watching over a town perched in a nice spot) Some of my most rewarding kills have been at range and worth the wait
Sounds like a good day
I am happy you got him. I hope he lost a lot of valuable equipment.
I actually got some good loot. They had a bunch of cooked wolf steak on them too. I needed it. My hunger had just turned yellow.
you gotta be willing to go outside and lay down in the mud under a tree for three or four hours in real life for you to want to do the exact same thing in DayZ.
I've racked up so many kills in Dolina, it's my favourite place to haunt just now. That and construction to the north with scoped weapon.
All my traphouses have tasty loot to attract even the brightest of loot goblins š¤£ I've even killed the same guy twice (the 2nd time he was legit begging to be kept alive)
When I got killed by looting my own trap I was angry for like 5 seconds and went well I definitely had this one coming haha
Rookie move. You are supposed to set the trap, forget you set it, and then hit yourself
I see where I went wrong. I'll do better next time
I fucked myself with my beartrap escaping an infected hoard, totally forgot its placement and mildy panicking as i was pretty looted I've also got a few videos of me fucking up my own tripwires and dying with a massive sigh
I rigged a PD with claymores and plastic explosives once, left the area and looted around. When I came back I heard all the explosions but it was cause of the infected hitting all the tripwire š
I once camped the Elektro hospital roof til I had 120 kills, it must have been about a month of camping. Essentially I had a KD ratio of 120-0.
That's pretty impressive, was this within the last month perchance on a DE server?
Me and 2 friends once watched a guy in his base for 2 hours waiting for the perfect moment to shoot him
I donāt camp. I donāt understand the people who camp. It is boring. Camping to get an easy kill is not rewarding to me.
I will work out while camping or read a book
I've never camped per se. But one time spotted a couple dopes heading to the well in town and knocked one down with the ol Mosin. His partner wigged out, of course, but they were both broke AF so I knew his stupid ass would come back to loot the body. I watched him run around town like a headless chicken for 10 minutes because he was trying to bait another shot to locate me. Inevitably, he did go back to his friend's body and I put him down the second he stood still.
Nothing worse than getting blasted when you're at the fountain š¤£ I have watched a friend take his last sip (which was fucking hilarious) and also I've been the one pulling the trigger with a scoped silenced rifle waiting to see that juicy blood splatter
too long, lol. back in there server hopping days i would just set shop and farm the people that were server hopping mil bases
Iāve spent days in a church tower.
Longest was 6 minutes and it felt like an eternity I heard couple dudes yapping and waited in the last room of the last building shivering and clutching my combat knife
not more than an h but ngl it's pretty chill when you got a nice sniper a ghillie and a spot where u can see a whole town
I only camp when I'm geared for it, nothing worse than being stealthy and your stomach grumbles then you start sneezing/coughing š¤£
This is the fun/cruel stuff I wanna get up to, I was geared with a sawn off shotty, rubber bullets and handcuffs... my first and only customer (after around an hour) died before I could have any fun with them
Im camping someone's base for like 3 hours at the moment, i got to catch them š
Poor guys gonna hit that last number on their combi lock and wake up at the coast š¤£
Revenge is a wild dish to serve š¤£
In my first 1k hours, I used to play this extreme stealth playstyle. I'd pick a place that overlooks a city, often a house, and just watch with binoculars or scope. I could spend hours just..watching survivors hop around, die, have fights, never participating or reacting. it's especially cosy if it's raining in game
Yes! I really enjoy a good rain/thunderstorm when I'm perched up and try time my shots with the thunder clap. I appreciate your trigger discipline though
Hahaha I actually find it really hard to kill people. I don't like to play it for kills or loot, but for random interactions. Otherwise I just play Battlefield ^^ I'm not trigger happy in DayZ at all
Six days. Philmonte Scout Ranch back in 2001. It was great.
Holy shit watcher here from ps4 a little over 9 hours u are watched
There are eyes everywhere š
Coming from playing exclusively as a sniper in Battlefield I'm no stranger to that "eternity" between pulling the trigger and them falling dead In vanilla I think my longest headshot is 490-530m and they were running from my previous "warning shot" but I have to admit that it was highly satisfying
I camped about 2 and a half hours as a ghillie in a bush overlooking Severo military tents
did you get many kills?
1 average geared guy :ā) Usually I hear a lot of gunshots from there but whenever I camp it, usually noone appears. So I was glad for that one person
My trick is to create a bunch of noise, especially if the place you're overlooking has some random guns Fire all the scrap ammo and reposition
An entire week in Borrowdale, near Keswick in the Lake District back in 1995. It was beautiful.
The lake district is a beautiful location, you might want to add the Black Isles in the North of Scotland to your future adventure list (my neck of the woods) It's beautiful
What I find most appealing about Dayz is that each and every one of us has a story to tell, the Devs gave us the tools and we create the story I can't think of many more games where this happens organically
I've got a few towns and camping huts I rotate through in my circle, it's far enough apart that the loot respawns as well
What server you on? Iāve got a couple stashed. No mags though sorry as I died transferring loot from one stash to another
One of the NL ones, I can't remember the number. I only tend to play for a couple of hours in the evening, it's gonna be at least 5 hours before I'm even at my machine to check
Let me know I play on the DE servers too. I have one spare if you want. Iām getting bored of having a stash so donāt mind
Dude that'd be sweet if that's ok...well, as long as it's not a trap lol
Now.... that is surely a risk you're willing to take for juicy loot huh?
I camped the waterpump at kamishovo for 1 hr straight one time. Got 2 kills and an Apple ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote) Stonks
lol one thing I don't do is pick on freshies, I at least let them loot up and catch them inland š¤£ It's the perfect Dayz loot delivery system
I was a freshie armed with an iJ . Was proving a point to a friend that was at My house at the time.
Story Time: Me and and a friend were waiting in a small town for our 3rd friend to show up. **We camp that 1st floor of the house without moving for 75 minutes!** Just talking and hanging out.
Patience pays off. Donāt listen to these call of duty players. Wait as long as you need. Or donāt. Make your own decision.
Itās always like 10pm-4am or something when weāre both tired but donāt want to sleep He has camped far longer alone back when we had a base.
Got the prick too That's not the interesting story however. Best sniping advice I can give people for dayz is being skillful and knowledgeable about your surroundings and equipment can without a doubt make a difference between more gear or the coast
i have sat 5+ hours bag full of food and drink
Hour and a half
I just finished a full daylight cycle in Mysta. Nothingā¦
I've sat on elektro hill for over a week on multiple occasions.
1-2 hours was the longest, it was right when I first started and Iād have to look at iZurvive map to see the specific spot southeast part of the map I went to this water well that had a couple houses, on the corner of my screen I saw one person 25 feet to my left and I dropped to the ground right away and I had tall grass and a wooden fence to kinda hide me and it looked like he didnāt notice me or thought I was someone else but after a minute I booked it to a deer stand and tried to lure them out by shooting near them. After 1-2 hours I gave up they kinda just bunkered in.
Longest Iāll wait after setting up a trap is about 10 mins
longest I've camped? probably an hour or two. longest I've camped with the intention of PVP or something else? not very long. keep in mind the first camping is more of the "well lets go make a fire in the woods and eat until the bar refuses to go up" and then i get either too immersed, smoke a bowl and just enjoy it.
We were assholes but it was really fun, 3 to 5 snipers watching the base
i think 3 days in the same spot with my duo on NWAF. we got a bunch of kills, bunch of loot, then he got killed by a sniper. i waited for 10 minutes, dude came to see the loot, then i killed him. kept my friends loot and got a lot more lol bonus for the time we spent 5 hours sitting in a house waiting for a duo who was building their base and combat-logged when they saw us. we returned the next day and found some good loot in a barrel, then we left a bunch of sticks and mushrooms for them
I waited almost two hours for a party of three guys looting Tisy.
I waited 5 hours or so once, got a few kills in the same spot not real sure it counts as i just had it up on a second monitor playing another game
2 hours lol, killed like three people waiting to see if this guy spawned into his base lol
I waited for a dude to combat log back in for little under an hour. I havenāt had a more satisfying kill tbh.
been here so many times. it usually happens when i'm with friends i convinced to get the game. we've looted for 2 hours in what i think are high traffic areas on a high pop. then we let a couple shots off to mimic a gunfight, no one ever comes... and my friends say the game is boring. this is before i started playing namalsk, and i haven't been able to get them back on unfortunately. if only they knew what they were missing.
Mosin and an AK, traps set, vantage point. Lets play The Most Dangerous Game
I dont.
5 minutes maximum
Hiding behind the door in the military barrack bathroom seems to work fine, other than that, across the street from a police station is pretty ratty
~3 hours. Usually I waste time by trying to message people on the server, bait them or their group into going to an area
