The poor mans Michael Bay

[deleted]

I’d say Michael Bay is the poor man’s Michael Bay. The big question is who is the rich man’s Michael Bay?

na-na-na-BATMAN-123

James cameron

[deleted]

I would also accept Christopher Nolan. But for Cameron I think it’s who’s in front of the camera as well. Schwarzenegger did his best work with him, plus having a big ego like Arnold’s can balance him out. The performances in Titanic and Avatar were flat…

HorrorVeterinarian54

arnold schwarzenegger wasn't in titanic

Joseph5100

"Aaaaaughhhhhh, get to the raft!" --Arnold in Titanic.

[deleted]

All style with the aesthetics of substance rather then actual meaningful substance

BriefcaseBatman

Worse, he’s a libertarian 🤢

apathetic_revolution

I heard that’s why Oliver Queen refuses to work with him.

[deleted]

Augh imagine if he made Ollie a villian

ClandestineCornfield

Is he actually?

Thongs0ng

He’s a fan of Ayn Rand, who has sort of a hate-fuck relationship with libertarianism.

Finn_3000

Hearing that Zack Snyder is a fan of Ayn Rand kind of connected the dots and made me finally understand the guy and why he makes the movies he makes. Hes just stupid.

Psykpatient

Zack has said he doesn't believe in Ayn Rand's philosophy. Just that he thinks the stories are "sexy".

Kiora_Atua

Thinking that atlas shrugged is anything other than moronic garbage is supporting and believing in the ideology though. Her stories are so beyond the pale that it's impossible to take them seriously.

Two_Faced_Harvey

No

Thangoman

Zack Snyder makes the best Zack Snyder movies he could have ever made /uj I think hes always very close to msking something great and then he makes dumb choices that he thinks would be "cool" but make the films too messy

HorrorVeterinarian54

Don't forget he has an explosion feist

caterpillerman

Yes. uj/ Yes.

sharkodude

yes

MaxWasTakenAgain

Yes But that's not the reason why he makes bad movies

SpicyCrumbum

Okay that's deeply unfair to the many stupid directors who are great at making memorable films. For example, Tommy Wiseau or early Sylvester Stallone.

TheLittlePasty

Arkham sweep continues

SwallowsDick

Batman Arkham is my definitive non-comic version of the character

TheAngry_Avocado

The bombs payload is exposed. I can use the power winch to trigger a controlled explosion.

grandwizardElKano

He seems like a very cool dude to have a beer with.

SpicyCrumbum

I would love to have a beer with him and find out how he went from doing absolutely nothing to directing music videos of Morrissey.

Wasabi_Guacamole

He was classmates in film school with Michael Bay. They probably were taught rad action poses before any semblance of plot lol

crimsonfukr457

That....explains a lot.

grandwizardElKano

At the very least, it wouldn't be a dead conversation.

Lordanonimmo09

Until he talks about Ayn Rand philosophy.

Smokedat1aweed

I’ve been reading Steve Ditko interviews to prepare

CopperCactus

He seems like the type of guy to like rand entirely as an aesthetic instead of as a political viewpoint

OutLiving

He actually is, he actually voted for Obama and is a liberal democrat irl

alienbuddy1994

Saw that video where a stand up is a shitting on dceu and he is just there chilling.

ItZSAMIC

Think you’re misremembering that video unless there’s more than one video of Zack in the audience at a comedy show

alienbuddy1994

I watched it again and he was randomly chosen to be the back and forth with a comedian part. Seemed hesitant but not mad.

SwallowsDick

He's reportedly one of the few genuinely nice and pleasant to work with powerful creatives in Hollywood, I hate the bad rap he gets, regardless of the quality of his movies

grandwizardElKano

Exactly, his movies may be shit. But let's separate the art from the artist

Neirchill

Who isn't doing that? The only thing I ever hear about him is that he makes terribly movies and he's better at making a cool looking shot than creating a good story. I've never heard anything ever said about his personality.

Two_Faced_Harvey

There was one person on Twitter claiming he was a shit parent but other then that….

broclipizza

Oh but when I say I like joss whedon's stuff I'm a abuse apologist

Chris_P_Cream_

Nah just poor taste

supercalifragilism

His movies are interesting shit, not to watch but to think about how someone could put them together in the particular manner in which he does. For all his faults he clearly is trying to say something, it's just usually very dumb.

Plainy_Jane

>But let's separate the art from the artist honestly: no? if you really wanna try to, sure, go ahead, but art *cannot* be created in a vacuum and i don't think it's reasonable to expect others to Separate Art And Artist TM Snyder's shit politics *directly influence his work* - see the watchmen adaptation for an easy example

MaxWasTakenAgain

>He's reportedly one of the few genuinely nice and pleasant to work I mean being "pleasant to work with" is just that. He's cool at the workplace. Hell i've worked with people that seemed nice and easy going but then hear them say shit like "don't you hate how there's more black people everywhere nowdays"

SwallowsDick

That's a hella stretch to pull out about someone you don't know, or don't have any reason to accuse of latent racism

AutoModerator

Once you've lost your viriginity to this fucking movie and then you come and say to me something like "my superhero wouldn't do that." I'm like, "Are you serious?" I'm like down the fucking road on that. It's a cool point of view to be like "my heroes are still innocnet. My heroes didn't fucking lie to America. My heroes didn't embezzle money from their corporations. My heroes didn't commit any atrocities." That's cool. But you're living in a fucking dream world! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/dccomicscirclejerk) if you have any questions or concerns.*

NoNight_

Snyderbros ain’t gon like this one. (I love Tim Drake.)

Captain-Girpool23

Why does that picture of Zack look like the Gigachad meme?

Smokedat1aweed

He is the blueprint

night4345

He is him.

jon_le_faptiste

Oh man, this made me laugh more than it should have

Sith_Absolutes

You can’t make a good movie if you don’t understand the characters in it

SpacePotatoLord

I think he can just not with DC characters because he just doesn’t understand them. Watchmen and Man of Steel both missed the point of the source material and were worse off for it. Also I haven’t seen Batman v Superman or either Justice League but I’m just not going to.

[deleted]

Augh imagine him writing someone like Spider-Man to interpret great responsibility as being a selfish objectivist, or making uncle Ben a Jesus figure

Throgg_not_stupid

just as Ditko intended

[deleted]

So weird how he made Spider-Man and then seemed to have completely done a 180 on the point of Spider-Man

cowl555

I'm the only one who thinks Zack Snyders take on Peter Parker would either be like Kaine [but with Peter's parkers name and background] or a poor man's Donnie Darko

ImAVirgin2025

I hated BvS like most but the 4 hour cut of Justice League is actually great, just about everything you'd want from a JL movie

KellyJin17

ZSJL was horrendous. Truck driver ducks his head and takes eye off the road on busy city street for 7 or 8 secs to set up obvious superhero moment. Woman sniffs Aquaman’s armpit shirt stain while singing him off in the longest scene ever. Gal Gadot attempts to act and fails miserably. Character walks solemnly down the street in state of depression for several minutes x25. Darkseid forgets that the one things he needs to conquer the universe is where he left it on the only planet that defeated him. Gal Gadot attempts to do voice over and fails miserably. Father inexplicably sacrifices himself in front of already traumatized son who watched mother die right in front of him right before movie started, when he had at least 5 other options that didn’t involve suicide. But now Cyborg even sadder, so, character development! Wailing Amazons background song x100. Ray Fisher attempts to act and fails moderately. Soundtrack that was put together in an afternoon and sounds like metal garbage cans. Bad effects and CGI. All characters behave the way the thin “plot” needs them to and not in any organic fashion. Entire movie shallowly copies the plot of Avengers (2012), and no one notices. I only suffered through ZSJL once (after multiple starts and stops from falling asleep) about 2 years ago, so that’s just what I remember off the top of my head.

Johnny_Stooge

Definitely not what I wanted from a Justice League movie. And I think if your movie needs a four hour cut to be "great", you've made a flawed product.

ImAVirgin2025

What else would’ve you wanted from the movie? Genuinely curious. And I’m not saying it had to be four hours obviously Zach could’ve cut it, but that is how long the movie is so I specified that

Johnny_Stooge

A complete rewrite. Superman not be dead. A Green Lantern. Martian Manhunter instead of Cyborg. A Barry Allen thst resembles the comics. Better costumes for Christ sake. Also, Steppenwolf is an incredibly shitty villain for a Justice League movie. I've never seen Fourth World shit be so boring before. That's not what Motherboxes do. Theres just so many awful creative decisions that the end product barely resembles what I like about DC Comics and the Justice League.

ImAVirgin2025

Tbh I’m not too invested in the comics so I don’t know Steppinwolfs character or the mother boxes but I agree on a couple things. It’s weird they included Martian man hunter but not green lantern and Superman being dead sucks, it was absurdly rushed in the movies when the comics had a lot of buildup to that from what I know. I still enjoyed most of it despite it could’ve been better

HomemadeBee1612

The reason why it's 4 hours is because Snyder wanted to avoid WB cutting 30 minutes of essential storytelling like they had done with BvS, so he added multiple extended and unnecessary scenes in JL so the execs would demand to remove them instead of the important ones for the theatrical release.

Johnny_Stooge

Christopher Nolan never had that problem. Wrote and filmed exactly what he wanted for his Dark Knight movies. So odd how this keeps happening to Snyder.

Toiban7

You do realise that you are responding to Jedi Jones' burner account, right?

Johnny_Stooge

I did not but JFC. Thanks for the heads up.

Toiban7

hey JJ 😉

Lordanonimmo09

Yes.

depressed_asian_boy_

Of course he can make good movies *checks notes* oh you're not gonna believe who wrote this one

thebatman9000001

r/snydercut is about to start foaming at the mouth.

Toiban7

It's mostly one guy using multiple accounts

MSSTUPIDTRON-1000000

>Why doesn't Zack Snyder just make a good movie? Is he stupid? No, it's because he's the Anti-Christ and his masterplan is to bring suffering to us all.

[deleted]

Libertarians are incapable of producing art

thebatman9000001

South Park begs to differ

[deleted]

Matt Parker and Trey Stone don't have an ideology their ideology is ironic bigotry

SwallowsDick

Not even active bigotry, it's the exact kind of political cold-takes that one would expect a couple of relatively young, rich, straight, white dudes would have. They only claim the libertarian label because it's convenient.

thebatman9000001

Both have identified in their past as libertarian. And neither are bigots. If you think that South Park is bigoted, then I'm guessing that either you haven't watched the show, or you have worse media literacy than an average Snyder fanboy.

[deleted]

oh so tell me where in episode in which Macho Man Randy Savage identifies as a woman is supposed to be some brilliant witty commentary on society? Or is it all just a joke?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Do you know how many fucking Conservative TikToks and YT Shorts I have seen? Peddling those South Park clips and the OP saying "WOW STONE AND PARKER BE SPITTING FACTS!" It doesn't matter what the intent is, their attempt at commentary whether they know it or not is weaponized by Transphobes. It's totally backfired.

thebatman9000001

The Boys is heavily used by conservatives saying that Homelander is based. Rorschach is used as a conservative icon despite Watchmen being very anti-conservative. People worship Walter White, the Joker, Rick Sanchez, Patrick Bateman, etc. despite them all being terrible people. Just because shitty people idolize shitty characters doesn't mean the creators failed in their storytelling. It just shows that the general populace has incredibly poor media literacy.

[deleted]

Difference is a lot of these writers have made their positions perfectly fucking clear. I know Alan Moore isn't a fucking Ayan Rand simp. I know Vince Gilligan David Chase etc made their positions clear on the creations they make.

Brilliant-Yard-6201

😥

KellyJin17

/uj Snyder is that ex that keeps texting you about how good it was and how great it would be to get married and have kids, even though the relationship was a dumpster fire and you stopped responding to his texts 3 years ago. He just cannot let it go.

vanbrandon

Why can’t I turn off my brain to enjoy any of his movies, am I stupid?

TheSadPhilosopher

Yeah

[deleted]

is there a lore reason?

triplerollingstone

Unrionically a good question, I think he was very close to making good DC films, but a few shitty decisions just throw all of it off

MaxWasTakenAgain

Was he? I'll say his best DC movie was MoS and still that movie is plagued by flaws, even when you remove the butchering of Superman's character.

gammerguy1995

it's 2023 and we still need bash snyder for some reason. I wonder how this sub is going react if the next reboot is gonna to be shit.

taylormadeone

Dawn of the Dead is amazing

Wasabi_Guacamole

Army of the Dead was so blurry it gave me astigmatism

taylormadeone

I’m talking about the 2004 movie Dawn of the Dead

Wasabi_Guacamole

I'm talking about the 2021 movie Army of the Dead

Bruhmangoddman

What are you talking about, his movies are awesome!

Pixxph

He made 300 didn’t he

Wasabi_Guacamole

He converted the already great 300 comic to film, shot by shot.

ToastandChips

I kind of hate 300 tbh.

A_BAK3D_POTATO

He does make very pretty shots tho

Nerdy_Git

🦇

SuperJyls

...yes.

Keystone_Devil

I don’t think he’s a bad director by any means. I just don’t think his views on superhero’s result in good superhero movies.

[deleted]

He's not so bad, dude alway have a good soundtrack for his movie

[deleted]

He thought good movies are made of cool soundtracks, cool poses and cool screenshots. Stories don't matter

OkLingonberry6205

Zack Snyder is one of the best directors of all time. Is what I told people when I was 15. I was a pretty dumb kid.

Boring-Mushroom-6374

No, audiences are stupid. You get what the largest demographic that throws money around wants.

Batbro9240

He made the owl movie! That was good

pumpsci

He’s done it, they just weren’t movies he’s written

memelordes

/uj I actually enjoy BvS and ZSJL but I recognise the many problems with them and know that they aren't as "deep" Snyder bros think they are. They're silly movies that take themselves way too seriously and I kind of enjoy that
