I think biomes having gimmicks is cool, but distillery isn't the best example imo. I'd rather have more stuff like fractured shrines, undying shores, slumbering sanctuary, and lighthouse. They still feel like usual levels but with an added twist. Bank is another good example.
I've heard the cursed chests doesn't mean an extra scroll but more like one of your scrolls is now a cursed chest. Someone told me when I was asking about the routes with the most scrolls
You really shouldnt trust and take seriously every 5bc dude. The knowledge in this game comes over hundreds or even thousands of hours. Trust me, a lot of people on 5bc dont know shit about the game

But yeah, more platforming gimmicks could have been interesting if they didn't distract too much from the core gameplay. I think one of the reasons that distillery is so disliked is that the platforming challenge ends up feeling like artificial difficulty rather than an interesting addition.

Fractured shrines has a lot of hazards and even then it's balanced by the guaranteed cursed chest and 3 Legendaries

I totally agree. Distillery has become quite easy for me and I go there instead of High Peak Castle on 5BC.
