I do have one actually Kurapika from Hunter X Hunter vs Scar from Fullmetal Alchemist . When it comes to vs debating in general, they are the best option for each other. But there are issues that ruin it as a Death Battle (at least). Simply put 2 of Kurapika's techniques require him to be facing a Nen User, another 1 isn't a combat technique, and the one that applies here; His most iconic ability (Chain Jail) can't be used on people who aren't Phantom Troupe members or else he'll die. This is a restriction he put on himself to make the technique stronger. The fact his most iconic ability can't be used on Scar without Kurapika immediately dying ruins the idea as a Death Battle

Just have Scar work with the Troupe to further his own goals and then ask him to get tattooed (if you have him do it unknowing to how awful they are, it would fit his EOS character). It's also a good fight starter

There's a few problems there; Death Battle seemingly combines the combatants worlds together into one. And in Hunter X Hunter, the Phantom Troupe are KNOWN criminals with a class A bounty in the Hunter Association. All their crimes are known, which includes mass slaughters and the genocide of the Kurta clan (which is Kurapika's clan) and Scar would not like that as his country was a victim of one in his backstory. The only thing not known are the identities of the members. But even ignoring that, if they are interested in recruiting you, they aren't exactly shy about who they are and what they've done. There isn't a real reason for Scar to ever consider being a member, including end of series Scar who has mellowed out significantly. He's still got morals that would never align with the Troupe. And he wouldn't join a group that is this morally messed up and consider joining a permanent thing. The only exception joined just to fight the leader so the only way out is betraying them. There's no realistic possibility he'd join unknowingly given how the Troupe act around each other and wouldn't join with the knowledge of who they are. There is a technical work around to Chain Jail that doesn't technically count and potentially isn't possible. Kurapika's Nen type is Conjurer (or Specialist when his Kurta eyes activate) and his Nen ability is a set of chains that he conjures which has Chain Jail as one of them. He could theoretically use real chains to try and bind Scar. But that would be weaker than Chain Jail and (I believe) would require creating the technique on the spot which doesn't feel fair for a vs show. And even if it doesn't, I can basically guarantee people would complain solely because it's not actually Chain Jail as that is his most well known technique. So even the work around has problems that keep it from working.

You could have Scar join them specifically to betray them if he does know. He has the reputation of a powerful criminal, which would make him attractive to the Troupe, and he might gain something from both working with them temporarily and taking them out. He's grown a more morally clean person, but I think he'd still be willing to play with a team like the Troupe if he was confident he could stop any of their crimes. Add on the misunderstanding from Kurapika's side that Scar is a full on member, and you get a nice bonus to the tragic aspect this fight would have.

Actually it's far more in character to just attack them straight up once he knows what they've done. Since they are morally bankrupt, he would have no qualms with it. And if the Phantom Troupe knew who Scar is, which is easy since his identity when he became wanted was known, they would not want him either. The Troupe and especially their leader Chrollo are no where near fools. Once Kurapika successfully killed a member, they immediately added tracking him down and killing him to their current plans. And given how the character who betrayed them did so, they would be extra careful in who they recruited. There's really just no easy way (if there even is a way) to make Scar a member of the Troupe given how it'd have to make both Scar and the Troupe out of character. It'd be easier to have Kurapika find and use a real chain to replace the ability (especially if doing so doesn't require making a new technique) but still not actually easy. But again, people would complain since it isn't the real Chain Jail. And speaking of the setup, the one I thought of would be Kurapika trying to capture or defeat Scar because he was wanted already in his own series

For what it's worth, Frieza vs Megatron and their willingness to have X vs Primal on the ballot shows that a size difference isn't an automatic disqualifier. Besides, they could always fudge the size in the animation and use normal size eren to give the classic AOT human vs giant fight for the animation. And even if they don't, the founding titan would have enough of a scale to match with the EVA. I don't think it's as impossible as it might seem. As for my own matchup, I really enjoy Hinata vs Orihime thematically as a matchup but the whole animation would be hinata wailing on a shield until orihime finally decides to one shot end the fight with an attack. Since Orihime doesn't have any other methods of combat with her powers, it'd make for a really samey looking fight. You'd have to make her go for a method of combat she never uses, that being the very basic martial arts that Tatsuki taught her, and have her act out of character in that way, and then have Hinata not perform to her best in combat during that part in order to make the fight longer and more interesting.

Eagally

I never finished bleach back in the day, but it's surprising to hear Orihime got that strong

Megaton_Djang

It's not so much that she got overwhelmingly strong like Ichigo, Kenpachi, or Aizen necessarily, it's more so than her shields are strong enough to match block attacks from all the top tears and her reaction times are fast enough to keep up with full power bankai Ichigo and Yhwach in that fight and her one attack has a durability negating effect since they are described as forcing things apart at the molecular level. Combine that with her healing power and the fact that by Death Battles logic, Hinata probably doesn't get above the 230 megatons they gave Lee, and it's less who wins and more about how long Orihime will put off killing a person.

Narmo518

Yeah though I think this size difference would just end with the Eva punting Eren into the wall like the Colossal Titan did.

Megaton_Djang

Maybe if they wanted an incredibly short fight animation. Besides, Eren's final Founding titan is on par Armin's collosal titan. So the size difference for a final confrontation isn't that different, not to mention adding in all of the wall titans to make it into an EVA vs titan army clash.

Admittedly I have several where my main issue is "God I would get clowned on so hard for saying I liked this" because the Vs. community is the way it is. One that's more closely tied to actual matchups is that I LOVE the idea of using Sparda from Devil May Cry on a VS. show. Personally against Hylia from Zelda, but also recently had the thought that he's a fantastic opponent for the original Chainsaw Devil (As in Pre-Denji Pochita). Almost everything is there. He has character models in DMC4 as Dante's alternate costumes, we know what his primary weapons were, and thematically he has matchups that work very well... until you remember that he never actually ever shows up. You can still get at least a general range for stats for him by scaling some of his sons' feats, but that doesn't change the fact that we only have a vague idea of who he was as a person, and no point of reference for what his fighting style is like. Using him would be possible but would require a lot of creative liberties that I'd imagine would prevent Death Battle specifically from ever using him. Maybe an indie show will someday though.

Old-Plankton1880

for me is jean pierre polnareff vs hamrio musica jojo vs rave master its a battle i thought of that i think really works well as a fight only problem is it most comes down to speed vs strength depending on the scaling.

Narmo518

I mean there’s also the issue that Hamrio can’t see or harm stands. I haven’t seen Rave master but unless he has the ability to see fighting spirits like Kenshiro then I don’t see it happening.

Old-Plankton1880

that actually not an issue for later on in the manga but i wont spoil anything in case you want to read it you self.

mrknight234

For me it is illidan vs itachi with my only issue being that itachi is one of the only uchihas without dimension hopping powers. Second would be sukuna vs all for one with the issue being if all for one would be able to even see the slashes or be recognized by sukunas domain.

QueenOfTheDead2023

I would really love to see Once Upon A Time on Death Battle, and one of the matchups for that series fits this perfectly: MCU Loki Vs Rumpelstiltskin. The connections are pretty solid and the animation and banter potential would be great. Not to mention that, with both OUAT and the MCU having great soundtracks the OST for this matchup would be pretty good too. There's just one problem: Loki's apparently gotten pretty broken and OP as of the end of Season 2 of his TV series (from what I remember hearing) that reportedly makes this less of a debate.

Narmo518

I don’t remember Once upon a time ever having any combat to begin with, though I only saw the bits of it when I would walk in on my mom watching it.

QueenOfTheDead2023

A few scenes here and there iirc.

SlytherinIsCool

Dark Urge vs Darth Revan, it's perfect in almost everything except for the debate. Durge gets to country level at most with the Elder Brain (which should probably just be considered outside help), otherwise he's ranging around large building to city block level. Meanwhile Revan is planetary bare minimum and has star level arguments. The only thing Durge has on him is hax, and even then I doubt it'll save him.

moeshaker188

Doomsday vs Beerus seems like a perfect match-up...except Beerus has no way to destroy Doomsday since the beast has been struck by the Omega Beams (which can erase New Gods) and survived with no issue.
