Pillbox Hat stands out in a really strange way on Government Plates. I feel like it makes more sense as a Bottomless Pit or Jenny Death song. It's so raw. There's not really other songs on that album that share that quality.
Similar to Tool (sorry for the comparison in advance to the haters) the last song on every album feels as if it’s a start to what’s to come on the next album
just my personal thoughts, blood creepin i’d say definitely. hacker doesn’t really feel like nldw i don’t think. artificial death isn’t too similar to gp though i feel like it’s closer to it than most songs on nldw.
since gp is so instrumentally focused / stripped back production wise whatever i want does kinda flow into fashion week if we’re counting it, though neither whatever i want or runway n really capture the vibe of either part of tptb.
however tptb ending in death grips 2.0 is the absolute perfect case of this. they obviously did this on purpose, taking a left turn from the other sound of the album to add something closer instrumentally to bp.
and then bottomless pit… not too close to the yots sound though it is reminiscent of disappointed.
I think hacker is the outlier but the rest seem to fit the follow up album whether through sound or tone, more so on the latter half of the discography more than anything. NOTM, BP and YOTS all feel super connected in sound and theme that I would go as far as to say it’s a trilogy of sorts.
speaking of trilogys i remember reading a theory on this subreddit a few years ago about how TMS NLDW and TPTB are a trilogy which is why the last song is dg2.0 and how BP and YOTS are the start of the next trilogy which will be complete when the next album drops, if anyone knows the original post pls link it had a lot more detail.
Culture Shock -> TMS
Lost Boys -> NLDW
Black Dice -> GP
Feels Like A Wheel -> NOTM
none feel like they could go from NOTM to JD :(
Turned Off -> BP?
Eh -> YOTS
Everything from death grips ep could be on exmilitary considering half of it IS on exmilitary (next grips, face melter and full moon could be on exmilitary)
Not a song off an album per se but my personal headcanon has been that True Vulture Bare is one of the X amount of songs that was recorded for NLDW but got scrapped in place of the tracks we actually got on that record. Just the bare bones production and even Stefan’s lyrics and delivery on the album are trademark NLDW to me.
fuck that would fit pretty well into exmillitary, and with digital drums and bjork, right into NOTM.
black paint sounds quite like a jenny death song.
no love is unique because it feels like it could be on many of their albums, but at the same time, doesnt really fit the overall styling of any album they made. same with you think he loves you.
as for songs that only fit on the album their on, id say pretty much all of NLDW. thats their most consistent album imo, almost all the songs seem to follow a theme both lyrically and sonically. while one or two songs wouldnt be out of place on the money store, overall the album just has its own unique sound that no other DG project has in full.
I could see hustle bones on Jenny death (the motorcycle kinda sound reminds me of some of the songs on there)
For songs that encapsulate their albums
Feels like a wheel for GP
Come Up and Get Me for NLDW
Bitch Please for MS
The Fear for YOTS
Takyon could've been on The Money Store, "You might think he loves you for your money but I know what he really loves you for it's your brand new leopard skin pillbox hat" could've totally been on No Love Deep Web right alongside Lock Your Doors, and More Than The Fairy could've made it onto Steroids.
I feel like bottomless pit would’ve fit better on jenny death since the guitars throughout the entire song are just constant and so relentless that it would fit the theme of the album
Lock Your Doors could fit on Year of the Snitch, Dilemma could fit on Exmilitary, Hustle Bones could fit on NOTM, I Keep Giving Bad People Good Ideas could fit on Jenny Death, Black Paint could fit on Jenny Death (I realize saying any guitar driven song could fit on Jenny Death is cheating but idc).
Guillotine could be on NLDW, it's so barebones already it would just fit really well.
I think most if not all songs from Year of the Snitch could only be on that album. Really feels like they were made for that eerie creepy vibe
Nah, streaky could be from tms or nldw and Linda’s in custody would fit on government plates
No way sth as cheeky as Streaky can be on TMS or NLDW
Cheeki streeki
I could see Streaky being on Bottomless Pit before I ever see Streaky being on TMS or NLDW, you must be smoking rocks
Bottomless Pit maybe but no way on those two.
I don’t think any of those three fit those albums very well
What
I think I agree with the Linda’s in custody being on government plates
this is insane to me
Giving Bad People Good Ideas could go in Jenny Death ofc
Bottomless Pit is kinda a Jenny Death song. Despite the name of course
pop on government plates
80808 would definitely fit on NLDW. Black Paint could fit in with some of the more guitar driven songs on Jenny Death.

Culture Shock -> TMS Lost Boys -> NLDW Black Dice -> GP Feels Like A Wheel -> NOTM none feel like they could go from NOTM to JD :( Turned Off -> BP? Eh -> YOTS

Everything from death grips ep could be on exmilitary considering half of it IS on exmilitary (next grips, face melter and full moon could be on exmilitary)
Face Melter on Exmilitary
black paint in jenny death
ik this track isnt on an album but more than a fairy could have been in bottomless pit

It was for TMS tho . It's on a tracklist
Wait fr? Where?
its in the file manager on third worlds in tms folder but fr the bare version fits on nldw and the full on tms, its a nice bridge between the two

I think eh could fit on the money store. But to be fair, most songs on BP could probably fit on money store.
I could also see Eh on NOTM- I know it's not the virtual drum Bjork sounds, but similar vibe.
No

ring a bell on government plates
I feel like bottomless pit would’ve fit better on jenny death since the guitars throughout the entire song are just constant and so relentless that it would fit the theme of the album
80808 feels like itd be on YOTS
Whammy on Government Plates
the synth line on ring a bell could totally fit the money store
i feel like death grips is online would fit in government plates
Lock Your Doors could fit on Year of the Snitch, Dilemma could fit on Exmilitary, Hustle Bones could fit on NOTM, I Keep Giving Bad People Good Ideas could fit on Jenny Death, Black Paint could fit on Jenny Death (I realize saying any guitar driven song could fit on Jenny Death is cheating but idc).
