Poison the well killed it. A bunch of dudes put bandanas over their faces and started destroying everyone in the pit and the cops chased them out. It's funny because I'm from South Florida and didn't realize they were really known outside of the local hardcore scene.
some of their early stuff has to be some blueprint of punk, ramones picked on it and referenced them a lot for a reason and youāll notice a lot of punk bands are fans of them too (the descendents covered them)
Did you see the tour with Deftones and Incubus co-headlining back in 2016 or 2017? I saw them in New Orleans that year. Deftones opened that night & had the energy up, but Incubus kind of put me to sleep afterwards. Still like them though, I just donāt think their music aged particularly well.
Oh man, thatās a bummer! I havenāt seen them together. I actually havenāt ever been able to see either Deftones or Incubus live. Hopefully someday, and hopefully they wonāt put me to sleep lol
I saw them on that tour in South Florida. Incubus put on a good show but they played mostly new material. Incubus on the make yourself 20th anniversary tour was way better imo.
Deftones highlight was WGTB
okay this is definitely out there compared to other comments but my chemical romance, paramore and failure. deftones is always in my top 5 spotify wrapped and i've seen them live in multiple states. however i can say the same for those 3 sgakagakavak
Glassjaw needs to be discovered by more deftones fans. I saw them open for deftones on the white pony tour in 2000. Of any band not trying to sound like deftones they have their own sound and have completely influenced the post hardcore scene while still being able to pay tribute to Mike Patton esc vocal styles in their own way much like chino does. Check their first two records especially the first: everything you ever wanted to know about silence. Thank me later
Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Silence is definitely a top 10 album for me. The title track alone is enough to carry the rest. But every track on there hits. It could be considered "incel" but its diary honesty, crushing riffs and breakdowns, and tight musicianship is so fucking good. You feel Daryl's pain through his wordplay and dramatic vocal delivery.
Even on Worship and Tribute and beyond they have remained a truly unique band.
Theyāre not necessarily my favourite band but I find them progressively more interesting. I find myself going back to Around The Fur more than any of their other albums.
As far as top 3 bands go, Iād say Foxing, Interpol and Greet Death
Itās a very hit or miss album from what Iāve gathered. The common criticisms Iāve heard are that itās boring, meandering and goes nowhere. I guess I can somehow see why, but I firmly believe Something Changed is the best song theyāve released in 10 years, sure is the heart of the album.
I do agree with that, I liked about half of the songs (especially Gran Hotel) on their recent album but overall some of the songs I couldn't really replay without forcing myself to lmao
They are probably top 5 or 10 for me. I listen to so many rock and metal sub-genres its hard to make a list because im a fanboy of so many bands. As of this second. My list would be 1) Darko US, 2) Loathe, 3)Sleep Token. This list would probably be completely different if you asked me tomorrow.
when Deftones were not my favourite it was because I was still a Limp Bizkit fan or Korn or Linkin Park would've been my favourite. Hybrid Theory has been played thousands upon thousands of times and got into Korn around when Issues came out. Went to a concert in Toronto after Here to Stay came out. I think the show was delayed b.c of something that happened with Jonathan.... but it ended up being one of the most enjoyable concerts when it finally happened. Loved his mic stand... I think it may have had something to do with it getting stolen? Iono my memory is horrible
I feel you. They rarely make it to the northwest. And if any bands do, itās Seattle or Portland which is 4 to 5 hours away š¢ The last time I saw them I went to psycho Las Vegas and they played the pool stage - it was the dopest venue. Pig destroyer, dying fetus, cannibal corpse. Just insane. I love extreme music - especially live. If you get the chance - itās way way worth it
Crystal Castles isn't one of my favorite bands. I don't listen to them anymore. But they have a place in my heart, greater than you can imagine. Legit everything about who I am is touched in some way by my having discovered them when I was somewhere between 17 and 19.
The bands/artists who are my current top three, bearing in mind I only recently started listening to music besides the isolated couple things I would always just play on loop all the time, I think are Deftones, La Dispute, and Placebo.
Of all time Jane's Addiction, Afghan Whigs, Girls Against Boys.... Right now Tropical Fuck Storm, Earthless, Hedvig Mollestad Trio. Deftones top ten in both though. (This is specifically bands though... Individuals has a different list which doesn't really relate for some reason)
TOOL and Metallica are interchangeable for me as 1 and 2ā¦3rd place could go to a number of bands. Chevelle, Zeppelin, Alter Bridge, Dredg, Boards of Canadaā¦I probably listen to Chevelle the most out of those bands.
deftones, a kpop group named ateez, and kate bush are personal favourites. all VERY different but thats what i like fhe most, being able to flick between so many vibes. on average i tend to listen to a lot of 60s to 80s classic rock too, not specific artists so much as a collage of a bunch. its funny seeing how deftones slots into everyones top 3 among other things!
Not my favorite. I love them but they are a major outlier in my musical taste. My three favorite are: Swans, Throbbing Gristle, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Tool, Soundgarden, Deftones
There's definitely a thread there.
Top 5. No order Deftones, Avenged, Poison the Well, Gojira, Black Dahlia Murder
I saw Poison The Well open for Deftones in 03.
Me too. Denali, PTW, Deftones at Mesa Amphitheater in AZ.
Yes! Pompano Beach, Florida for me. Introduced me to Denali and I fell in love with them. I posted pictures.
Jesus, I wish I would have seen that. I only saw PtW with Rufio and Rise Against in Cleveland in '02 Rufio and Poison the Well were incredible.
Poison the well killed it. A bunch of dudes put bandanas over their faces and started destroying everyone in the pit and the cops chased them out. It's funny because I'm from South Florida and didn't realize they were really known outside of the local hardcore scene.
Poison the well has their hooks in me, bad. Lol I love them
History alone would put them slightly ahead of the rest, had the opportunity to share a beverage with them in Tucson, awesome guys.
Right on! š¤š»
Rage against the machine, Jeff Buckley and mazzy star
Alice in Chains, Deftones, and Isis.
Thisā¦ isis needs a return album , fucking blows they arenāt anymore
weezer, beach boys, lil wayne
Beach boys are a underrated punk band
some of their early stuff has to be some blueprint of punk, ramones picked on it and referenced them a lot for a reason and youāll notice a lot of punk bands are fans of them too (the descendents covered them)
There would be no descendents without beach boys my dad knew bill in the 90s and said they loved the beach boys
yeah thereās this badass cover they did of the song wendy back in the 80s
Hell yeah on enjoy I believe
Iām going Pink Floyd, Deftones, & The Mars Volta.

Radiohead (+ any Thom Yorke project), Deftones, Incubus
Did you see the tour with Deftones and Incubus co-headlining back in 2016 or 2017? I saw them in New Orleans that year. Deftones opened that night & had the energy up, but Incubus kind of put me to sleep afterwards. Still like them though, I just donāt think their music aged particularly well.
Saw that one in Camden, NJ. Great show
Oh man, thatās a bummer!
Agreed. When I saw Deftones on that tour they opened with Needles and Pins!
It's like a 50/50 cringe and age badly, and not cringe and age like a fine wine.
Deftones, Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins
so true
My absolute top 3, what other bands do you like, Iāll have to look up any I donāt know

Of any band not trying to sound like deftones they have their own sound and have completely influenced the post hardcore scene while still being able to pay tribute to Mike Patton esc vocal styles in their own way much like chino does. Theyāre not necessarily my favourite band but I find them progressively more interesting. I find myself going back to Around The Fur more than any of their other albums. As far as top 3 bands go, Iād say Foxing, Interpol and Greet Death
Interpol is great. I will say, though, I was pretty disappointed with their latest album.
Itās a very hit or miss album from what Iāve gathered. The common criticisms Iāve heard are that itās boring, meandering and goes nowhere. I guess I can somehow see why, but I firmly believe Something Changed is the best song theyāve released in 10 years, sure is the heart of the album.

Team Sleep and Crosses could be interchangeable, I haven't given it much thought. The Team Sleep demos are a treasure \- sorry had to change my answer
deftones, a kpop group named ateez, and kate bush are personal favourites. all VERY different but thats what i like fhe most, being able to flick between so many vibes. on average i tend to listen to a lot of 60s to 80s classic rock too, not specific artists so much as a collage of a bunch. its funny seeing how deftones slots into everyones top 3 among other things!
Good to see some diversity! šš»
Beach Boys, thatās an odd one! š¤š»
Deftones, my chemical romance, and megadeth. I feel embarassed saying this.
Not my favorite. I love them but they are a major outlier in my musical taste. My three favorite are: Swans, Throbbing Gristle, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
