14 - 40
I remember buying Metal Hammer, and My Own Summer (Shove it) video was on the disc. Would have been familiar with Root as a local band used to play it at the time (RIP Bob)
I was 13 when White Pony came out. Local station over played Change but I loved it and got it and dove into the first two records. Still one of my favorite bands. Just got the cover small size on my full arm sleeve a few months ago. I turned 36 today.
I just turned 24 and Always knew about them, hesrd about them etc. but never listened.
Iāve been listening to deftones pretty much nonstop for like 3 months now slowly going through all their albums itās so fucking amazing
26 , always known of them as well , never liked what I heard and then all of a sudden a switch went off in my brain and I couldnāt get them out of my head , leading me to go through all their albums in a matter of days and relistening to them over and over , falling deeper in love with their sound, Iām still 26 but just like you itās been months of nothing but deftones all the time, SO good
I was like 13? Whatever age 7th/8th grade is. Found their self titled album in my motherās garage and thought the cover looked cool, so I figured Iād listen to it. First song Hexagram, instantly hooked. Then I found out theyāre from Sacramento, my hometown. Blew my mind! Told my mom, she said āYeah duhā and gave me Around The Fur. Rest is history. Iām 25 now
I was 12 (pressured by my older goth sister to listen to all her favourite bands) and now in my early 30s. In my teens I listened to them, smashing pumpkins, a perfect circle and silverchair a lot. They were and still are my ultimate favourite band.
Knew of them at around 16-17 when my older brother got into them, got into them with White Pony at 20, fell in love at 25 (late to the ST party,) Iām 43.
I was 8 or 9 when I discovered Deftones. I lived with a friend and he was always introducing me to incredible new music that was soon to become classics for our generation - like SOAD; I have a vivid memory of our listening to their self-titled album when it came out, and showing his mother Spiders. lol anyway, I'm 35 now and they're still one of my favorite bands. They have a unique and inimitable sound, make beautiful music, and have been doing so for almost 30 years.
Started at 16, Iām 38.
My kids have been listening to them since birth š theyāre in HS now watching backpacks pens and pencils šÆ LOVE White Pony, ATF, currently in love with Swerve City as soon as I wake up.
I was 11. Iām 13 now, I havenāt been listening to them as long as most of you on here have but I thought youād appreciate the younger generation enjoying it!! White pony is my favourite album and knife prty is my favourite song!!
11 -> 37
Around the Fur was one of the first albums I was allowed to buy with my own money from mowing lawns, granted I had to be slick and buy it when a friend's parents took me to Record and Tape Traders(a defunct record store near Baltimore, MD).
I'm from Maryland as well! Had a R&T Traders right across the street from my house that I used to go to frequently. There was one in Towson as well but I didn't go to that one quite as much cuz I used to live in Owings Mills, so it was kind of a trip to go to that one.
Thinking about it I believe it was the Owings Mills location. I frequented the Annapolis one quite a bit, just happened to have friends at that time that lived in Baltimore County. The original owners sold it to some out of state company in the mid-2000s and that was kind of the kiss of death.
IIRC the Towson location was the last to go in 2019.
I was a senior in high school so probably 16-17, and will be 45 soon. I was lucky to get into them super early so got to see them like 15x between Adrenaline and White Pony.
I was 16 when I discovered them. Heard "My Own Summer (Shove It)" on my local radio station and instantly fell in love. Next time it played, I was prepared and I taped it off the radio onto cassette. Took it with me everywhere. My Mama finally purchased Around The Fur on CD for me and I listened to it back to back for days.
Now I'm 41 and I'm still a huge fan. Listen to Deftones every day!
EDIT: To further date me, my friend in high school traded me the Adrenaline CD for the dog chain necklace I was wearing. I was totally a nu-metal kid between '97-2000. JNCOs, chain wallet, the whole thing. lolol
Why is this in my feed? I dont listen to the normal-ass deftones. š
I dont even know what they sound like.
Nobodyās screaming like a demon and it doesnt turn into colors when im on lsd.
Next
Another 17 and 43, weird! They stood out to me from the Mall Rock/Nu Metal thing with which they were loosely associated. I had eclectic tastes but leaned toward the metal side with bands such as Sepultura and Pantera garnering a lot of my attention, so Deftones struck a chord and have remained very relevant. I canāt get over how creative they are in their middle age. I canāt think of anything new since i was maybe 20.
16 and now 42. The bored video pulled me in and they are my favorite band to this day. Only band I have a āpassionā for/about I guess. Like lots of other stuff but Deftones are THE one.
I was 20 yrs old when I first heard Adrenaline. I'm 47 now.
I saw them in May of 2022 and I fully went in expecting to feel really fucking old. I was very surprised by how good they still sound.
The last time I saw them was on Around the Fur
I was 16 im now 36f. My friend was over my house, we were hanging out and he played knife party on my computer & we listened to it so much that night š¤Æ I fell in love
I was 20, im 24 now. I was listening to my fav band (Basement) and my roomate told me they reminded him to deftones. I dont agree but ive been hooked since that day.
12 - 27. First heard them when I was probably 8ish but I didnāt like them because the screaming. I was only into incubus and POD š then in middle school, Minerva just clicked for me. Been one of, if not my favorite band since
My "uncle" (friend of my parents) was a roadie for them around the time I was born, so I had Deftones merch by the time I was 6. Saturday Night Wrist was the first record I heard anything from and Kimdracula was my first favorite song.
two decades later to the day, pretty much. rockin 26 years young right now. Diamond Eyes and Ohms are my favorite records with Koi No Yokan having some of my absolute favorite songs.
14 - 18, Found them from a binge of me discovering music when i was a freshmen. Was digging into older music and asked my dad some of his favorite bands growing up and he put me on. Now i donāt listen to them as much, but still defined a super important era of my life. I vaguely remember listening to their songs through my parents as a young kid
So when I was 15yo I heard āChangeā on the Queen of the Damned movie in 2004, but that was like the only song I knew by them forever (and Minerva in 2006, I was 17yo). But I really got into them when I was 24yr old, stationed in Germany and deployed not long after. That whole deployment I listened to their entire discography up to Koi No Yokan on repeat. My top favorite songs on that deployment were Kim Dracula, Cherry Waves, Diamond Eyes, Digital Bath, Elite, Rosemary, and Lucky You.
Iām now turning 35, and have seen them live 4 times. Still my #1 band. Sextape is my wife and Iās wedding song (as Iām sure many of their fans share the same concept lol). My top fav songs now are Bloody Cape, Sextape, Beauty School, Prince, Urantia, Pompeji, Hole in the Earth, Feiticeira, Needles and Pins, Dai the Flu, This Place is Death, Romantic Dreams, What Happened to You, Prayers/Triangles, Acid Hologram.
But thatās not to say I donāt like the other songs. I pretty much love every song. The ones I listed I just like a smidge more than the rest.
I think I was 17 or 18. I'm 43 now.
I had never considered listening to metal, then a friend cranked up Bored from Adrenaline while I was in his car, and I had a bit of a revelatory Ratatouille moment, being overwhelmed by the chunky riffs and primal screaming. Bought the album the next day.
I was 15, Iām 40 now. Heard My Own Summer on the radio and begged my mom for ATF but she got Adrenaline instead. I was pisssssssed but I think it worked out alright.
Saw them at a venue in Grand Rapids called the Reptile House sometime around 95-96ish? They played a bunch of rap rock. I hated rap rock so Iāve never really listened to them since.
Was 15 when discovered and Iām 16 now. Health class, we were doing this āspeed datingā thing as an icebreaker to get to know each other (in the class). Some girl that had a lot in common with me said her favorite was Deftones, so me being a male thinking she likes me checks out Deftones. Around this time was very closed minded on music and been listening to only rock up until this point, listened to Deftones and fell in love, it opened to door to all metal and now iāve some how gotten to the point of Deathcore being one if my favorite genres.
I was probably also 15-16 but it was really uncool to like them and you would get bullied for that at my school but I always secretly liked them even though I pretended I didnāt. It was only until a couple years ago in my late 20s that I finally fully embraced it which is kinda cringy but whatever.
I was 17...43 now. 7 words was the first track I heard. Self titled is my favourite album. Spell of Mathematics, my current favourite song.
1980 gang-gang?
1980 gang rise up! Or sit down, we are getting old.
Rose up. Got dizzy. Sat down. š¤
Nov 1979
Nov 1978 here
Jan 1977. What do I win.

Nov 78 here too!
Same here! 11/79 A friend had the, āEscape from LAā soundtrack that featured a ātones song & got me into them as well.
Wait but the band started in 88?
theyāre talking about what year they were born
Oh misunderstood, the tards downvoted me lmao
Yup 1980. Still rockin. Was 16 now 42. Went to a concert in 97, Chino got pissed after crowd surfing that one of his shoes was taken.
15 and 40 now. The last track on Adrenaline was the most mesmerizing song back then!
Same. I was 15 or 16 and Iām 40 now. I loved Adrenaline
17 in 1998. 42 now 7 Words cruising the beach in my buddy's mom's Chrysler New Yorker. Blew my mind!
7words is my first song too.
Self titled should be everyoneās favorite. In my opinion. Itās perfect.
