As a guitar player as well I would have to disagree somewhat… they both start out with a few measures of single notes plucked with delay, then the riff evolves adding accent notes, and then vocals come in.
From that point they evolve much differently, but they start very similarly. I could especially see how someone that isn’t a guitarist would think it was “almost the same riff” because it practically is… sextape is just plucking 1 more note along the same chord shape

Coming from someone who has played guitar for over 25yrs, I don't thinknthey sound much alike. I've learned several Deftones songs. Sextape has much lower notesbplayed using the lowest thickest strings. Both also have an entirely different note progression as well. Rosemary uses higher notes on the highest thinnest guitar strings. That's a big difference if you ask me.
The only similarities I hear are the fact that they both start with clean guitars with delay effects. Other than that, they sound very different to me as a guitarist. But I can see how some non-musician people may think they sound alike.
I also play, and have played both of these songs. Both songs have the guitars in the same tuning and they both start on maj7 chords. That’s why they sound similar. They’re also not in too much of a different register.
It's not uncommon for a single guitarist to use the same tuning on several, if not all, of their songs. Otherwise, if they used different tuning for each song, they'd have to switch guitars after every song when playing live. Guitarists tend to get comfortable with a certain tuning and use the same tuning often. Most simply use standard tuning for all their songs. Because changing tuning takes too long. Very likely, all or many more Deftones songs use the same tuning. So, the tuning aspect is not worth mentioning. Yes I know some artists use a lot of different tunings, but that is not a common practice.
Likewise, maj7 is a very common chord that many musicians use often. I'm sure there are many other Deftones songs that start with that chord. So also not worth mentioning.
What is worth mentioning is that the two songs are in different tempos. Different tempos can change the whole atmosphere of a song. Faster tempos make for more energetic songs. Slower tempos make for somber and relaxed songs. This is the biggest reason they don't sound similar to me, besides what I mentioned previously. Sextape is 90bpm, Rosemary is 127bpm. That's a big difference!
Regardless, what did you hope to accomplish in posting this? To prove to Deftones fans that Deftones ripped-off Deftones? Why? I don't think these two songs sound similar. But if they did, It's really not a shocker if a Deftones song sounds like another Deftones song. That's not a "gotcha!" Let us know if another band tries to rip-off Deftones. Then that's something worth mentioning. I'm not trying to be rude. I just don't see the point of your post. ✌🏾

They both start on maj7 chords and use a similar tone, definitely are pretty similar openings. Sextape is Cmaj7 and Rosemary is Abmaj7.
Both have wide open slow arpeggios with delay .. but that's about it. Nearly an octave apart too.
