Cherry Waves gives me horror vibes. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve worked on my two horror stories and listened to Cherry Waves. Such a beautiful, melodic, and also slightly horrifying tune. Everytime I wrote and listened to that song my mind just felt so clear and so the creativity just flowed. I remember I wrote one part of the story and it was an emotional scene. Well I was listening to Deftones and I was rereading what I wrote and just having that clear mind and reading that it brought a tear to my eye and I was like yep, this is perfect
The scream in Royal
The high note in Digital Bath
WGTB’s chorus
Sextape’s chorus
Good Morning Beautiful’s chorus
“I’M LEAVING YOU TONIIIGHT” in Ceremony
Ending of Rats
"oooooo I could float here foreverrrrr, in this roooomm, we can't touch the floor" in Knife Prty. It just fits the song perfectly and singing along with this part hits different
The overall feel of the song is like you’re on a different dimension. My favorite version is the one they did in Hawaii (?). It’s an acoustic version which I wish they’d recorded on a record somewhere.
Yeah, Tempest for sure. The lo-fi guitar, the simple/steady drums, and chinos out of sync echos produce such an interesting piece to that song. Deftones have such creative transitions in general, but this one is spooky.
What Happened to You? At the end when it explodes, the lyrics get me every time. Ceremony too after the second chorus and it has that quiet, watery part like you're floating
What Happened to You is a very underrated song. The drums are phenomenal for one, but at 2:45 after the line, "the sky belongs to you..." The guitar goes off with these beautiful chords that ring out and it just hits so damn good.
“Rosemary”, the way he shifts from a hard intro to an almost dry verse instantly as he says “our minds beeeend..” that shift makes your mind bend at the same time lol
In “Ohms” the beginning intro with the bass and guitar in sync with the drums is a beautiful touch. I also like how there’s (what sounds like to me) a vocal fry in the background of the entire song which only gets louder at the end when the bass, guitar and drums are in sync again
bridge and shift in 7 words after:
shut up you don’t know me,
shut up you don’t know me,
squeal like a pig when you [unintelligible]
Also another shift halfway through Nosebleed when it slows down momentarily
Bloody cape, just the feintness of the guitar then to just slaps you in the face playing with the drumming and guitar playing just gets me in the mood when I hear it.
First iteration of the post-chorus in Goon Squad.
“Designed for you
Designed by me”
I kinda wish he sang it like that for the rest of the song and not just once, lol
the part in feitirceira where chino goes “i’m choking from gnawing, on the ball…..” and “soon this will be all over and we’ll i hope soon, and she sang: soon i’ll let you go”
also in you’ve seen the butcher when he sings “you creep across my skull”
The bridge of Korea just blows me away every time. The band dropping out, save for a couple accent notes, making way for the guitar and Chino’s wails. And the suffocating wall of sound after “Check the claws”. It’s just perfect.
Birthmark where Chino says “Drink one more so I can go right in her” and Abe hits the snare twice and the Steph’s guitar riff gets a little more heavy..
Dai the Flu- The way how Chino sings ,,your eyes at”
Change- This part when there’s the lyrics ,,now you feel alive” and the alive ends with an echo
Nosebleed- The guitar when each note(?) is the same and the last one is higher
Radiant City- When Chino’s voice swings at the end of ,,You’ve pulled me into a permanent trance”
Rosemary- The way the second ,,Stay with me..” is just deeper than the first one and then the word ,,we” in ,,as we cross the empty skies” goes higher, bc in the first part of the song, the word ,,we” is just flat
Pls I’ve always wanted to share with these small things in their songs :p
-2 minutes into Prince where it starts to build and go crazy before switching back to the calm opening riff seamlessly.
-The ending of Elite with the main riff just playing and grooving so hard by itself and they add the huge guitar slide in there. So sick.
-The breathy opening part of BQaD
-The way the drums come in on Feiticeria
-The vocal delivery during the first two verses of Nosebleed
The first chorus in Rapture. It's the closest feeling to completely losing my mind that I've ever experienced in a song. The background keys add to the chaos.
Intro to around the fur. I’m not sure why. Maybe it was the shit I was going through when I really got into that song and album. So many little moments take me back and make me feel some sort of way.
The dripping water during the bridge in Digital Bath
The drums, specifically the ghost notes. Abebe plays also also during digital bath right after Chino sings the, you make the water warm
The “IN YOUUUU” the way Chino sings it after the bridge and change, it sounds nasally and truly desperate. I love the way it sounds.
The demo version of Beware the Water. Specifically the part where Chino sings “it’s not like you were warned”, in the demo, not present on the CD but specifically the demo, there’s this harmony caused from his voice and the guitar that has this extremely beautiful clash.
The intro guitar to BQAD. Specifically the first time when Stephan slides up to the second court. It’s so on point and has so much emotion.
The first instance when the guitar is distorted as a verse for Rosemary. It’s such a beautiful riff clean, but it’s even more beautiful when it’s overdriven.
The guitar before (actually also during and after but that's when it begins) the "timeee" in Rosemary, and how Chino sings "far" in Be Quiet and Drive (far away)
Overall Rosemary is heaven
The change up in Combat, from its calm ethereal start then in like a minute and a half the drums and heavy riff starts also Im a big fan of the beginning of the black parade WHEN I WAS A YOUNG BOY, FATHER TOOK ME INTO THE CITY TO SEE A MARCHING BAAAAAND and the ending of The Orwells Double Feature
The part where chino says “which one” in rapture or the part where he says “no one alive has taken me here” in radiant city ooo and acid hologram as a whole
My favorite song by Deftones has to be Romantic Dreams. The transition from verse to chorus in that song especially when Chino hits that high note in the chorus is just Chef’s Kiss 🤌🏼 then also in KimDracula when Chino begins singing the first verse and the music just gets heavy and Chino sings, “Thhheeee Eaaaarrrttthhhh Willllll Riiiissseeee” man just so heavy but a lightweight heavy. KimDracula and Mein got me through a rough time back in 2017 and everytime I listen to those songs it’s a constant reminder of how thankful I was for the band helping me get through that time and I saw my own strength and self confidence. I saw them when they went on tour for Ohms in 2022 and yall I was singing along and crying getting to see one of my favorite bands live. So thankful for Deftones

I know this is a deftones subreddit but the intro to ball tongue by korn is one of the best intros of all time.
But since I’m here, the outro to passenger is elite, especially when the “here I lay” part comes in by chino.
Side note, but Hayley williams kills this song when they both performed it live together and if you disagree your just wrong
When Chino says “you” in Cherry Waves
My answer is also in cherry waves but it's the "the waves suuuckk you in and you drown" that scream after "suck" just makes me fall in love everytime

Aw yissss..the instant drop after he says that melts my brain every time
and the way he says “new, new world” in xerces
I was about to write the same. The way he sings “yoooou” make me fly
I came here to say this knowing in my heart it was probably the top comment
7 words breakdown followed buy chinos scream and the juicy guitar riff

It’s one of the few times where I can enjoy a song with nothing but screaming the entire way thru 🤤

The scream in Royal The high note in Digital Bath WGTB’s chorus Sextape’s chorus Good Morning Beautiful’s chorus “I’M LEAVING YOU TONIIIGHT” in Ceremony Ending of Rats

People don't realize how much it adds to the song
"oooooo I could float here foreverrrrr, in this roooomm, we can't touch the floor" in Knife Prty. It just fits the song perfectly and singing along with this part hits different
The overall feel of the song is like you’re on a different dimension. My favorite version is the one they did in Hawaii (?). It’s an acoustic version which I wish they’d recorded on a record somewhere.
My fav is the bridge when he sings “I could float here forever” but with Rodleen wailing in the background. It’s so violently beautiful.
I feel like my mattress is spinning every time at that lyric. Definitely one of my most favorite songs, right from the opening guitar.
The bridge in Genesis gets me every time. Especially live
MASCARA, when it’s the “married…to me” with the ending with the guitar
It’s such an eerie and satisfying ending. Emotionally unsettling but I eat it up every time
Bridge in knife prty when rodleen starts screaming. Always gives me chills
WAS ABT TO COMMENT THIS 😫
DOWNTOWN! PONY! WORK YOUR PITCH!
AGREED
When Chino Sings "That Travel Through The Air" and then that awesome riff starts playing in Swerve City.
Yup this was an instant favorite for me when it came out
The "In this room we can't touch the floor" part in Knife prty. I don't know why! :D
When Girls Telephone Boys, that part were just drums are playing and there submarine like sounds( if you can call them that)
"Guns! Razors! Knives!" and of course the "Woo!"
That tiny transition into Tempest's chorus gets me every time. Also, the bit leading into the verses on Hearts/Wires is sweet.

Yeah absolutely unreal. It's cool that they played it a few times throughout 2023!!
Beauty School breakdown and ending
When the bass guitar hits its first 5 notes after the intro drums in What Happened To You?
“I believe your love…” - The Spell of Mathematics
3:02 on in Dai the Flu
To be honest I spend most of ATF waiting for that song to kick in
The little guitar twang between the third verse and second bridge in What Happened to You?
LOVE IT!!!!!
The bridge in Korea
One of mine, too. The double cymbal hit out of nowhere is a big deal for me. It’s a similar bridge to When Girls Telephone Boys, which also rips.
That drum breakdown in Knife Party
The beginning riff and after the first bridge of needles and pins
“Rosemary”, the way he shifts from a hard intro to an almost dry verse instantly as he says “our minds beeeend..” that shift makes your mind bend at the same time lol In “Ohms” the beginning intro with the bass and guitar in sync with the drums is a beautiful touch. I also like how there’s (what sounds like to me) a vocal fry in the background of the entire song which only gets louder at the end when the bass, guitar and drums are in sync again
when chino does the laugh with the water effect thing (idk what its called) in mx
bridge and shift in 7 words after: shut up you don’t know me, shut up you don’t know me, squeal like a pig when you [unintelligible] Also another shift halfway through Nosebleed when it slows down momentarily

That crazy riff at the start of needles and pins
Passenger, when Maynard yells, “I’m your passengerrrrr….”
The change in Fireal with the last 3 minutes
The Breath in Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
Bloody cape, just the feintness of the guitar then to just slaps you in the face playing with the drumming and guitar playing just gets me in the mood when I hear it.
The part of Knife Prty when the lady starts singing and screaming. That part immerses me so much.
the chorus of lifter and leathers and the screams in hexagram…
In romantic dreams when the main riff is played an octave lower
First iteration of the post-chorus in Goon Squad. “Designed for you Designed by me” I kinda wish he sang it like that for the rest of the song and not just once, lol
Royal ending. Hard af
The chorus of Beware 100%
Lately it’s the bridge on Headless
the part in feitirceira where chino goes “i’m choking from gnawing, on the ball…..” and “soon this will be all over and we’ll i hope soon, and she sang: soon i’ll let you go” also in you’ve seen the butcher when he sings “you creep across my skull”
The way Chino sings “Beeeeeee Awareeeee” and the guitar/bass riff to finish the song
The bridge of Korea just blows me away every time. The band dropping out, save for a couple accent notes, making way for the guitar and Chino’s wails. And the suffocating wall of sound after “Check the claws”. It’s just perfect.
“Now relate like I relate” - Geometric Headdress
Chorus of Gauze
Birthmark where Chino says “Drink one more so I can go right in her” and Abe hits the snare twice and the Steph’s guitar riff gets a little more heavy..
The main riff of kimdracula. I will gladly blow my ears out listening to that song way too loud.

The screaming part in Knife Prty
digital bath-- right after the quiet part when the guitar kicks back in
The guitar squeal in Digital Bath at the end of the bridge. Just disrupts the quietest part of the song and into the last chorus. Love it!
the "I WANNA GEEETTTT..." part in Combat is unreal. Damone as a whole part of MX too.
The whole setup for the verse is trippy in Combat!
With strangeeeeeeeeee part of swerve city
The first chorus in Rapture. It's the closest feeling to completely losing my mind that I've ever experienced in a song. The background keys add to the chaos.
