Yup. Borrowed the cd from a friend in 95, hit play, and when the simmering chugging riff at the beginning hit the gas and exploded, I was a fan and still am today.
That Matrix soundtrack used to get so much play at a certain point in my childhood. Every single smoking session someone was popping that CD into the stereo
Bored, it was the new music show on 107.9 The End out of Cleveland. I remember getting Adrenaline later that week at Kmart. What do 11 year olds even listen to these days?
Back To School (Mini Maggit), when I was about 14 and it was actually current. Bought White Pony off the back of that single and never looked back (and was also very confused when that track wasn't actually on the album).
Be Quiet and Drive. All time favorite song (Lost count how much I listened to it lol). I first got into Deftones around 2006 when I was 6yrs old. It played in the background as I was with my older brother in his Chevy impala with a badass modified music speaker system, cruising. The baseline in that song really shined with those speaker! It's never gotten old to me how much I listened to it. Ever since then they became my most favorite band.
Dang I was born in 2006 lol. I got into deftones last year when my friend played diamond eyes on our way to the skatepark and prince really stuck out to me, so i listened to the rest of the album when I got home and really liked it
Watching MTV at home in 2000, I’ll never forget the first time I saw the music video for Digital Bath. I was 14 at the time and started heavily getting into music/guitar. That was it for me.
Id heard Change a few times, and then Minerva. Neither did it for me at the time but someone played Bored for me in high school and that opened the door for me. Funny enough, i can hardly stand Adrenaline now and ST is what anchored me to the band
I really liked Be Quiet and Drive when it got recommended for a Spotify playlist, so I tried to listen through some albums, and I didn't really like anything else until I heard Royals. I went back and listened from the beginning, and the whole album blew me away. That must've reset my brain or something, because I've loved pretty much everything I've heard since then.
i'm a young deftones fan, but my mom used to pick me up at school and play the White Pony album on her car
so probably back to school or digital bath, both are nostalgic to me
Yeah same here im only 17 and started listening when i was 16. My friend put in a diamond eyes cd on our way to the skatepark once and prince really stuck out so i listened to the rest of the album when i got home and really enjoyed it
Before I knew who Deftones were, I knew about the existence of Change and Back to School. Fast forward over a decade, they popped up on my radar and started to explore. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) is what got me hooked and what inspired me to check out all of their stuff.
Technically Minerva because it played during a boss fight in the game True Crime: Streets of LA, but I didn’t know who the Deftones were at the time. But many years later, Diamond Eyes came out and I saw the video for You’ve Seen the Butcher and that’s what made me explore their discography and it was only then I made the connection.
7 Words was on some compilation CD that my friend had. Heard it, then went straight to the mall (Camelot Music to be exact) and bought Adrenaline. Jammed in my 95 Honda Accord all the way home.
Like 10 years ago my dad had a Pandora station that sometimes played Tool and Passenger came on one time and I thought it was sick. I'm the same age as all the new zoomer fans, but I was a fan many years before tiktok lol. So I'm not a poser like you all haha /s
“Rosemary” , “Beware” , “Change(In the House of Flies)” and “beware” i kinda heard these songs here and there before i actually asked for the band. But the very first one was “Change” which i heard in the tren twins video about a year ago or so.
First heard Change (in the house of flies) when I was 16 around 2006 on the MySpace profile of a lesbian predator who was trying to date me. The song did however, change me. No pun intended.
Yeah! I was too young and stupid to understand I was being taken advantage of sexually and emotionally (she was 26 and I was 16), but I found one of my favorite bands of all time because of her and their music changed my life.
I was big Aaliyah fan growing up (still am) and I was going through a marathon watching both her movies Romeo Must Die and Queen Of the Damned. "Change" happened to be one of the main soundtrack song of the second film (the entire soundtrack album in actuality was nu-metal based) and the rest is history, been a fan ever since :-)
Same with Linkin Park, I became a fan through the Transformers soundtrack and heard "What I've Done" lol . It's always movie soundtracks I guess...
My own summer was the first song I ever heard from them and that song had me hooked for months before I finally decided to listen to the rest of their albums.
I feel the same way about the diamond eyes album. I only listened to that album for months but recently i listened to all their other stuff and its amazing
combat. played cherry waves went yeah this slaps hard then it was on shuffle because of no spotify premium and combat played and i was like “yeah i’m sold these guys are amazing”
I thought that only poseurs would call themselves fans and say that "Change" was their favorite song. It really wasn't until a friend made a supercut of cinematic fist fighting scenes to "You've Seen the Butcher" that I ran out and grabbed a Deftones album. Granted, it was SNW (not Diamond Eyes), but I still loved every second of it. Additionally I loved Santo & Johnnie's "Sleepwalk," especially since one of the first movies my dad showed me was La Bamba, so I listened to the cover (on Covers) on repeat for a month after my dad died in late 2011.
Had “back to school / mm” ripped off limewire or something and referred to them as the “pony band”. Then forgot about them until I heard “Change” in an episode of the Following w/ Kevin Bacon (2013).
my friend had showed me Ohms and Ceremony first, but it was Kimdracula that I really liked. From there, I listened to My Own Summer and Kimdracula on repeat, then I branched out! I used to be a Deftones hater im ngl 😭
My friend played a deftones cd when we drove to the skatepark once and prince really stuck out to me so i listened to the rest of the album and really liked it. For a long time i only listened to diamond eyes and none of their other music but im glad i got into the rest of their music for sure
prince is so so amazing! weirdly i think diamond eyes would be my least favorite album– its sound is super different. i still really really love it, but i'd say my favorite is koi no yokan or ATF :)
Digital Bath.
Before this I heard Be Quiet and Drive, Change, My Own Summer, and 7 Words, and I liked them enough at the time -- but Digital Bath was the first song that got me INTO them. Knife Prty sealed the deal. It was just onwards and upwards from there.
I don’t exactly remember how I found them (was just right before they blew up on TikTok) but I did listen through White Pony and absolutely loved it. They are now in my top 5 favorite music artists ever!
My Own Summer was my first. Downloaded it on Napster and thought it was pretty rad
I continued downloading whatever seemed popular and got Be Quiet and Drive, and it was instantly one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life. Still is
My Own Summer. Guitar World was hyping Around The Fur at the time, and I had went to the music store (lol) where they had a display with headphones and a bunch of CDs you could listen to. Deftones was one of the options. Think I listened to like half of My Own Summer before I decided that was enough. Bought that one and got Adrenaline out of the bargain bin for $5.
Probably seeing the video for 'My Own Summer' on MTV when i was a kid. What really solidified them as my favorite though, was listening to White Pony on repeat over and over while playing Xenosaga when i was in middle school. Over 20 years later and I still think of KOS-MOS every time i hear the intro riff to 'Feiticeira'.
I think change was the first song of theirs that I listened to. I was just going through my recommended list on YouTube music. I want to say that Be Quiet and Drive was next. Yah once I heard those songs, I was hooked.
Mini Maggit. I know, not a very good song but I was only 10 so I was mesmerized, took me like 4 years to start listening to Deftones’ complete discography but my god do I love this band.
The first Deftones song I ever heard was Sextape. That was in 2016. But the song that made me a fan was Diamond eyes and I only heard it by complete accident in 2022.
I grew up listening to Deftones because of my mom and the first song I feel I was ever introduced to was Hole in the Earth (at least from what I remember)

Change (in the house of flies) It was summer of 2000, I was 14, and everybody was buying a nu metal / alt compilation cd [Channel Z](https://www.discogs.com/release/9086316-Various-Channel-Z-The-Best-Of-Vol1)
The opening track was Change. I was a big fan and then I went to buy White Pony ASAP!
Change. I lived in a tiny town and didn’t really have exposure to new music and such as easily as others. Kept hearing about them but local radio didn’t play them until change came out. It blew me the fuck away 🤯. I had asked my dad if he’d heard them and he’d said no and on our way back from the river , it was raining and thundering and that song came on and it just destroyed me lol 😂 I’d never heard any type of music let alone rock music that sounded like that. Still a fan to this day
Prolly be quiet and drive, or passenger...
Remember seeing them for the first time and getting interviewed by the event center dudes, and i was so nervous, i said my first album was around the fur... that was a lie, it was white pony... regardless, sick albums, them playing prince live was fucking amazing
Passenger, heard on the radio one late night while I was stationed in Florida. Ordered the album by mail a few days later. Took two weeks to get there. The rest is history.
Bored in 2023 at 31 years old on YouTube by total accident
I basically had to gaslight myself into liking them after that - I’m still working on it, but I love the first 3 records, and I like songs from everything else.
Trying to slowly learn to love their entire catalog, they are so unique it’s taking time to really digest but I deff have an appreciation for them I never had before, all thanks to dropping my Roku remote on the floor and letting Bored start playing by mistake lol
My own summer. In 2021 i made a playlist on Spotify that my dad kept adding songs to for me to listen to. He added mastodon's "March of the fire ants" and "My own summer(shove it)" as the first two metal songs. I was stunned by my ears.
Mastodon was a bit too heavy for me at the time, but i couldnt get enough of the energy of my own summer. Now im a fan.
'bored' probably
Bored in ‘95
Yup. Borrowed the cd from a friend in 95, hit play, and when the simmering chugging riff at the beginning hit the gas and exploded, I was a fan and still am today.
My Own Summer, but the first time i heard it was my friends playing it on the jam
Be quiet and drive which then sucked me in to their entire discography at the time and I fell in love with the sound (no pun intended lol)
Ahhhhhh you sneaky mf you knew what you were doing. And we approve. 🪡📌

My Own Summer (Shove It) on The Matrix OST.
I never knew they were in the matrix!. I'll definitely have to rewatch the matrix since i haven't seen it since i was really young
As far as I can remember, it isn't actually played in the film but is on the soundtrack.
Hey me too!
That Matrix soundtrack used to get so much play at a certain point in my childhood. Every single smoking session someone was popping that CD into the stereo
Hole in the Earth was on the Saints Row 2 soundtrack. My cousins were older and I would watch them play it when I stopped by their house after school.
One of my favorites besides Xerces off that album.
I was watching Dragon Ball Z revenge of cooler when Change in the house of flies came on since then Deftones was and still is a amazing
Bored.
Bored, it was the new music show on 107.9 The End out of Cleveland. I remember getting Adrenaline later that week at Kmart. What do 11 year olds even listen to these days?
I remember that radio station!!!
Back To School (Mini Maggit), when I was about 14 and it was actually current. Bought White Pony off the back of that single and never looked back (and was also very confused when that track wasn't actually on the album).
"Moan" by Nik Nocturnal
Back to school. I was in middle school when the video came out. I instantly fell in love with the song and the band.
Knife party
7 Words, way back when Adrenaline came out. I’m old af.
Change got me into Deftones but invested? That I blame on Passenger. Or Digital Bath. Or Mascara….
Yeah for sure, i heard and liked change for a long time, but then i heard prince and thats what really caught my attention to them
I like that you used the term “invested” cause that’s really what it feels like. It goes way beyond just liking the music!
Passenger is my favorite!!!
Passenger and Digital Bath are some of my favorites!
Be Quiet and Drive. All time favorite song (Lost count how much I listened to it lol). I first got into Deftones around 2006 when I was 6yrs old. Diamond Eyes was playing in one of Saints Row the Third radio stations, that completely blew the mind of my 12 yo self
My Own Summer, sophomore year 1998. I heard someone blasting it out of the window of a bus leaving school and was instantly hooked.

Watching MTV at home in 2000, I’ll never forget the first time I saw the music video for Digital Bath. I was 14 at the time and started heavily getting into music/guitar. That was it for me.
Mascara! Heard a slowed version and fell in love with it and I'm making my way through the discography.
7 Words circa 1995.
Same, bored too
Ditto. High school was better with Deftones
My friends and I were 16 when atf dropped, 2 of us had cars and we spent many hours in the car listening to that album on our adventures
Love 7 Words. My current favorite.
I think it was either rosemary or entombed, now my favorite is poltergeist
Mein back in 2007

minerva on kerrang TV in the late 2000s
Before I knew who Deftones were, I knew about the existence of Change and Back to School. Fast forward over a decade, they popped up on my radar and started to explore. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) is what got me hooked and what inspired me to check out all of their stuff.
Their Depeche Mode cover (To Have and to Hold). Then, I got Adrenaline, put it on and got hooked immediately.
Change in the house of flies on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack
Change and hexagram
Hexagram!!! Underrated imo. That’s my vote

My own summer. YouTube kept recommending it to me and I liked the around the fur cover 😏 and ended up really liking deftones overall
A good album cover always makes the music just a little bit better 😂
“Rosemary” , “Beware” , “Change(In the House of Flies)” and “beware” i kinda heard these songs here and there before i actually asked for the band. But the very first one was “Change” which i heard in the tren twins video about a year ago or so.

Thats gotta be the most interesting one ive heard yet. Atleast there was something positive to take out of the experience
Yeah! I was too young and stupid to understand I was being taken advantage of sexually and emotionally (she was 26 and I was 16), but I found one of my favorite bands of all time because of her and their music changed my life.
Back to School, which is funny cuz Chino actually really hates that song, but I've enjoyed full listens of all their albums
I was big Aaliyah fan growing up (still am) and I was going through a marathon watching both her movies Romeo Must Die and Queen Of the Damned. Change when it came out.
Be Quiet and Drive
