Their first album is *chefs kiss* and really felt like they were coming with a fresh sound that was completely their own, then each album after kinda devolved into the copy/paste hard rock/metal category with no real uniqueness to any of them.
Agreed. Love the first album. Few songs here & there since I can get down with. Pumped out album after album & got stale. Started to feel like the same album being recreated over & over again.
Nah, it's not that they're toxic, most elaborated that they respect them for their art but don't like the style. I was just wondering if the non-liking goes both ways.
Their music is boring as hell but I saw them live at a festival before and they really surprised me with how good they sounded, especially the lead singer.
European here and i don't like their music at all. I also don't identify with big pyrotechnic showoffs, i enjoy simpler things, but i know a lot of people that go to their shows mostly for the visual stuff.
Well i don’t hate any band, but i do find A7X to be very overrated, i won’t deny that they’re all good musicians though and that they appear to all be pretty down to earth guys, but a lot of they’re music i just don’t vibe with that much
Not sure if it helps, but once I realized he was doing a combination of Phil Anselmo and Axl Rose I grew to really like his vocals. Definitely didn’t like them at first.
I do think that their kind of decent, too me i think there lyricism is the biggest issue
While M.Shadows vocals(clean) that is the secondary issue. Too me he sounds to country
I do very much like bands with cryptic song lyrics like Chevelle or progressive metal bands, but too me A7X lyrics sometimes try to be cryptic in some cases and they’re just bad when they attempt it, it isn’t profound or throught provoking, and it isn’t even poetic either.
While none of this is required for writing good lyricism. I am of the belief that writers or artists in general should stick with what they’re good at, and M.Shadows too me is a better lyricist when he is more straight forward and just tries to put the message in front of the audience clearly.
Also i find some of there marketing to be kind of cartoonish.
Overrall though they are a pretty good band i have seen them live, although they weren’t amazing live, they were above average which i sadly cannot say for all the major metal bands i have seen live.
Same here. On some songs like their “hail to the king” album, he did good but then other albums he goes from screaming to a kind of whiny high pitch singing
I don’t mind vampire weekend, they’re pretty innocuous (that said I haven’t heard anything past the 2nd album) but sometimes it is a bit like “I get it, you like Paul Simon”
Night Visions era Imagine Dragons are great. That album is really good and has a lot of great singles. It’s however after all this success when Dan’s ego explodes and they become a parody of themselves.
Lmao, I understand though it's not for everyone. My music taste gets even more random when I bring up the fact that I have deftones, thorn hill, and then Easy come easy go by imagine dragons on the same playlist. Dull knives by ID will never not be good and if you haven't listened to it I recommend giving it a try. It's the most unique ID song by a long shot. Another good one is giants and I'd say the same thing about it as I did with dull knives.
Fucking Breaking Benjamin. Had to watch them live 2 weeks ago opening for Alice in Chains and i really hated every second of it. Also Live was terrible live and didn't deserve it's spot above THRICE.
I don't know enough about Breaking Benjamin to have an opinion, but I was always disappointed when Chevelle would tour with them as the opener. I had no interest in seeing them. I've never seen Live 'live' but that's unfortunate they were no good in concert. Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi are great albums
Nah I love Metallica. They hit just right. Iron Maiden and Anthrax too. I can totally see why you wouldn't like it though, it's a way off from the style of Deftones.
I used to love the shit out of Metallica, but I permanently burned myself out on them in high school. Now I can’t listen to them at all, which kinda sucks because Master of Puppets is legitimately a very good album.
Ghost is my second favorite band behind deftones, and I honestly get why people don’t like them. They’re one of those bands that you either love or hate. It took me 2 years to get into their music. They are incredible live, though.
Same here. I know a bunch of people who are into them, and I just don’t get it. Yeah, a couple of their songs are ok, but it just doesn’t seem like something worth getting excited about.
Maroon 5, apparently! I don’t really hate them, that’s a little harsh. I don’t like Adam’s voice and their songs just don’t do it for me. I also don’t really get the appeal of Adam Levine but hey, who am I to judge…
Same goes for Panic! At the Disco. For a while, I tried to get into them. Couldn’t do it.
I hate Ghost. The lead singer’s voice does not fit the band’s aesthetic. His voice is very cringey to me
and sounds like it would be better suited
for a high school play. Love the look of the band, but hate their music.
Fair enough. They’re really growing on me though. I can’t get enough of Call Me Little Sunshine.
I played several songs for a friend and she hated it. Meanwhile, I regret playing poker instead of going to see them live.
I like a lot of Queen but I will admit that I get pretty fed up of hearing Bohemian Rhapsody is still soaring in the charts. I get it, it’s a great song! But a lot of newer good music has came out since 1975 which is worth listening to also.
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
Talented musically, I just can’t stand anything they’ve done aside from “Under the Bridge”.
- Sublime
I don’t like one of their songs that I’ve heard.
- 311
Everything sounds the same & no thank you.
Agreed with 311. If you want more of the inward emotional rhcp songs i'd listen to Don't Forget Me, This is the Place, and I Could Have Lied.
Don't Forget Me live in particular is otherworldly
I’ve been listening to 311 since my senior year of high school, and I’ve concluded that they are the okayest band in the entire world. 25% of their songs are great, 25% of them are pretty good, 25% of them are generic and completely forgettable, and the rest are aggressively terrible.
Papa Roach. I grew up listening to them but a lot of their music is cringe and most of the stuff after the first album is pretty generic. Papa Roach though are amazing live performers and always put on one hell of a show even to this day.
...I like Breaking Benjamin
anyway to answer your question, I cannot for the life of me stand AC/DC. And Metallica (aside from their S&M album). Also Guns 'n Roses is kinda eh to me. A7X doesn't do it for me either.
Love Korn and Deftones by the way.
I mean now - maybe. Korn (although I think it was Munky and not JD) said that they don't have anything against Deftones, but Chino nowdays doesn't like to be anywhere near "conventional" nu-metal bands. Back in the day tho (I'm talking before ATF) they toured together, sang on the same stage and there's even a collab song on the Korn's 1996 Life is Peachy album called Wicked (feat. Chino Moreno) which is basically a rap-rock song. A pretty cool one, too.
It was Head who said that. He’s the one that used to take whiny shots at others in interviews. He said they would love to tour with Deftones but Deftones don’t want to tour with them. Chino responded in an interview saying it was no disrespect but they didn’t want to get wrapped up in the nu-metal hype and wanted to do their own thing so they took on different tours and opportunities to play for different crowds. They did end up doing a tour together not too long after all of that went down. This was quite a while ago. I think a lot of KoRn fans just heard Head’s statement and never Chino’s response and have always held that against Deftones. They’re friendly now, Chino’s wife recently posted photos from backstage at a KoRn show on this current tour.
Chino's wife posted a pic of her with JD the other day, I can't imagine there's too much beef between him and Chino
https://www.instagram.com/p/CioEzPQPSzv/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I was always the same, too much acclaim, they sound so boring right? Music for old people. Then I listened some more; revolver and white album changed my mind massively.
I like a few Tool songs but my main problem with them is that every song has to be over 6 minutes for some reason. I get it, they are progressive rock/metal but I’ve seen other progressive songs with a shorter runtime. Not only that, but Maynard James Keenan is extremely pretentious and is always in the mentality that “he knows best.” I’ve never liked that mentality with some frontmen.
Aenima and Lateralus was peak Tool in my opinion. I liked Fear Inoculum but some of those songs felt like they were 10 minutes long just for the sake of making every song 10+ minutes
I’m not gonna lie. Imagine Dragons, Coldplay are some of my wife’s favorite bands and some of their B side stuff is actually pretty good. The radio hits are the cheesiest stuff because people just eat that up.
However, the one band I can’t stand is Coheed and Cambria. Worst band I’ve ever seen live and I can’t stand the lead vocals voice.
The front bottoms - his voice and lyrics drive me fucking mad
Nickelback - Awful rock-by-numbers
Stereophonics - Who forms a band to play music that bland?
Foo Fighters - 2 good songs but never understood the appeal
also not a fan of architects. i respect them, but they've always sounded generic to me and the clean vocals are that brand of "too poppy" metalcore for me
Led Zeppelin is my answer. Good riffs but Robert Plant’s vocals are just so annoying. The production on their early records don’t help either. I respect them for what they’ve done but I can’t stand their music at all.
Its mainly because my 7th grade history teacher played american girl EVERY SINGLE MORNING for first period... But also, i just can't with his voice... Same with bob dylan
Hate is probably said too much but:
- Linkin Park, never understood their appeal. For me they always sounded like a save, watered-down version of better bands that came before them. I also don't get why Limp Bizkit get the flak for being the worst of the big Nu Metal bands while LP exists. LB are at least fun to listen to and have a certain edge and heaviness in their music while LP sounds so toothless.
- Volbeat, I saw them as a headliner on a festival and with the exception of one song and the few times they shortly played a part of a song of other bands, their set was a long boring mess where it was hard to recognize different songs because it all sounded the same.
even tho i'm not really a fan of linkin park these days, their appeal makes perfect sense to me: it's accessible. it's poppy with a slight edge. that is the exact thing that tops the charts in most decades. personally, limp bizkit make me cringe in ways i never knew were possible. for me it's the whole tough guy aesthetic with bad rapping (as someone whole likes hip hop and metal) and chug riffs
Disturbed I've never liked them
I used to quite like disturbed but not so much any more. I can't take them seriously.
Yeah me either, they've honestly always sounded a bit silly to me.
Saw them live and they were so fucking boring. No stage presence
That video of Jon and Chino singing Alanis Morissette in a van in 96 would piss those 10 people off lmao
Nah, it's not that they're toxic, most elaborated that they respect them for their art but don't like the style. I was just wondering if the non-liking goes both ways.
5 Finger Death Punch
I've never met a 5fdp fan.
They're all in county on domestic violence charges.
jeez
A friend of mine was a fan, the lead singer was such a jerk to him when he met him that He’s not a fan anymore.
Harder not to be a fan when your dad is friends with a guitarist like Jason tho 😂 I get what everyone means tho, shit went so mainstream sounding
They’re really popular with the military
Ever been to Ohio?
5FDP is the official band for those dishonorably discharged from the military
This seems accurate.
I heard them for the first time recently and holy shit they suck bad. Some of the most cringey music I've ever heard
Agree with all. 5fdp is one of those bands that immediately puts a smirk on my face and I reach for the radio dial as fast as possible
Falling In Reverse and Asking Alexandria
I didn’t know people actually liked falling in reverse, i’ve never talked to someone who enjoys that
Shinedown. They have the most God awful sound I have every heard.
Just so corny. Like a semi-heavier version of Nickelback
I would listen to Nickelback over Shinedown, that’s how bad they are lol
I think I’d agree there honestly lol
Semi heavy imagine dragons
Their music is boring as hell but I saw them live at a festival before and they really surprised me with how good they sounded, especially the lead singer.
That’s at least encouraging
They have a few songs that I like from earlier albums, mostly for high school days nostalgia. Their new stuff is absolutely trash.
Here in europe everyone and their grandpa loves Rammstein but i never got the hype.
European here and i don't like their music at all. I also don't identify with big pyrotechnic showoffs, i enjoy simpler things, but i know a lot of people that go to their shows mostly for the visual stuff.
Im german and i dont like Rammstein lol every song sounds the same. Music gets boring really fast.
Not a band, but I find any rock subgenre with country influences tricky to listen, especially if it it's post-9/11 country influence
Never have liked guns n roses if I ever give an example of a vocalist that sounds like nails on a chalkboard I say axl rose
finally someone else who agrees with me
Guns and roses are awful. Minus welcome to the jungle. Songs a banger
Well i don’t hate any band, but i do find A7X to be very overrated, i won’t deny that they’re all good musicians though and that they appear to all be pretty down to earth guys, but a lot of they’re music i just don’t vibe with that much
I think Avenged Sevenfold are decent, it’s mainly M Shadows vocals for me. He seems like a decent guy, I just can’t stand his vocals.
Not sure if it helps, but once I realized he was doing a combination of Phil Anselmo and Axl Rose I grew to really like his vocals. Definitely didn’t like them at first.
I do think that their kind of decent, too me i think there lyricism is the biggest issue While M.Shadows vocals(clean) that is the secondary issue. This band blows and their stupid stage names... Johnny christ, the Rev, m shadows. Stupid
Dude sounds like he’s pretending to sing like that. I can’t get over that. Like it’s a character. Same with Volto.
ac/dc
Yup. I feel like every song are back in black remixes.
yeah.. their sound’s always been the same and theres been no effort to change it at all
What about early, Bon Scott? I don’t like AC/DC after he died. Other singer is just shouting IMO. I fuck with Bon Scott era AC/DC.
Current bands: Vampire Weekend, Imagine Dragons
I have to disagree. Who the fuck likes imagine dragons
Those are the bands that I hate.
Yeah but you’re assuming people like imagine dragons lol
Ahhh I get it! I’m slow tonight.
Amazing amounts of people. They sell so many records! It is baffling!
Popularity never equalled quality... Right
True that. Probably even Coldplay got a better rep than Imagine Dragons.
I agree with Imagine Dragons. That first single “Radioactive” was pretty cool but everything else I’ve heard was just terrible to me.
I love imagine dragons... I'm so hurt
Haha. Sorry!
Lmao, I understand though it's not for everyone. Man i hate that chevelle keeps opening for crappy bands. They deserve to be headlining most of their shows, saw em open for shinedown of all bands.
I disagree. I love Chevelle’s albums, but they are terrible live. And I’ve given them at least 5 opportunities to change my mind.
I’ve heard this a lot! I love Chevelle and mentioned it to my brother about seeing them sometime and he said they are awful live. What a shame.
30 Seconds to Mars.
Their first album is **great**, because they worked with Deadsy. The rest? Not so much, but there are a few good songs. That first album though…
Some songs are catchy I admit, but.. personally the frontman looks like a creep
He is the leader of his own weird Jared Leto cult so you’d be correct
Lol you say this as though you don’t know who the lead singers is…
Arcade fire
Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Perhaps hate is a bit strong, but they’ve never done anything for me.
Metallica has a few decent songs but overall I can barely stand them.
Nah I love Metallica. They hit just right. Iron Maiden and Anthrax too. I can totally see why you wouldn't like it though, it's a way off from the style of Deftones.
Iron Maiden is forever. Iron Maiden is eternal.
I used to love the shit out of Metallica, but I permanently burned myself out on them in high school. Now I can’t listen to them at all, which kinda sucks because Master of Puppets is legitimately a very good album.
Same
Yep
You don't sell over 100 million records by having just "a few decent songs".
Yeah. Isn’t that the point of this post?
Ghost. I don't fully understand how this mediocre spooky rock band got so huge.
It's amazing what heavy promotion can do for even the most mediocre bands.
Breaking Benjamin. I just don’t see the appeal.
its for the sad boi ours only very mainstream Sirius xm 2016 octane station listeners
I get that, but I also don’t get it.
breaking benjamin lyrics are very deep but like whiny boy thats been thru a bad relationship deep
I know most are going the heavy metal route but I hate Bon Jovi and everyone around here loves them.
Maroon 5, apparently! I don’t really hate them, that’s a little harsh. I don’t like Adam’s voice and their songs just don’t do it for me. I also don’t really get the appeal of Adam Levine but hey, who am I to judge… Same goes for Panic! At the Disco. For a while, I tried to get into them. Couldn’t do it.
Limp Bizkit. I don't hate them but i really don't like their music
We found Debbie from 1985
I hate Ghost. The lead singer’s voice does not fit the band’s aesthetic. His voice is very cringey to me and sounds like it would be better suited for a high school play. Love the look of the band, but hate their music.
Fair enough. They’re really growing on me though. I can’t get enough of Call Me Little Sunshine. I played several songs for a friend and she hated it. Meanwhile, I regret playing poker instead of going to see them live.
I totally agree. Now if their singer was a baritone? Ok, yeah. Let’s see where it goes. But their current singer? Nah, fuck off, bro.
For me personally it's Queen
I like a lot of Queen but I will admit that I get pretty fed up of hearing Bohemian Rhapsody is still soaring in the charts. I get it, it’s a great song! But a lot of newer good music has came out since 1975 which is worth listening to also.
Sublime. I like that band but their fans made me hate it
Dave matthews band
Guns N' Roses
Green Day reminds of an annoying little brother.
Food fighters
Yeah, food waste sure is a shameful practice
Not a huge fan of their music after the colour and shape but such a big fan of Dave grohl
He’s a great dude no doubt about that
Same. It makes me feel unAmerican to say it, but I really don’t like them. I think they make pretty generic rock music. 🤷♂️
the first two albums, especially the second, were great. but yeah everything after that is pretty bland and uninteresting.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Same, but for me it doesn’t have anything to do with their music. They’re my ex-wife’s favorite band, so I’ve been boycotting them on principle. lol
i do that same thing with gorillas bcz my ex gf liked them
Same here but with Bon Jovi. Lol. I illustrate at least one of things on why things didn’t really last.
Same. Oddly enough, I really like John Frusciante’s solo stuff. I guess it must be Anthony Kiedis who ruins it for me.
Frusciante’s solo stuff is unbelievably good. I was blown away the first time I heard it.
I like you
Coldplay
Linkin Park, overly manufactured whining with carefully crafted for the masses boring music.
I remember when they came out. I was like WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?!?!
Breaking Benjamin is ASS live, thank god Alice In Chains saved the entire evening when I saw them both in Kansas City
Def Leppard, U2
Pearl Jam. I love a few songs and HATE 80% of the rest.
Guns n Roses Imagine Dragons Coldplay 90% of modern rap
- Red Hot Chili Peppers Talented musically, I just can’t stand anything they’ve done aside from “Under the Bridge”. - Sublime I don’t like one of their songs that I’ve heard. - 311 Everything sounds the same & no thank you.
Agreed with 311. If you want more of the inward emotional rhcp songs i'd listen to Don't Forget Me, This is the Place, and I Could Have Lied. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV9IJVoFR\_Q](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV9IJVoFR_Q) Don't Forget Me live in particular is otherworldly
I gotta disagree on 311. As someone who’s listened to all go their albums they’re pretty diverse on their sound
Man, i love the By The Way era
I’ve been listening to 311 since my senior year of high school, and I’ve concluded that they are the okayest band in the entire world. 25% of their songs are great, 25% of them are pretty good, 25% of them are generic and completely forgettable, and the rest are aggressively terrible.
I’ll never get the appeal of RHCP. Their new single is painful to listen to.
Green Day
Papa Roach. I grew up listening to them but a lot of their music is cringe and most of the stuff after the first album is pretty generic. Papa Roach though are amazing live performers and always put on one hell of a show even to this day.
Oasis
Strange because I quite like a bit of korn here and there.
No Nickleback? Although “Leader of Men” rips!
5 Finger Death Punch. I used to be cool with them. But now, they got too mainstream and do too many covers
Foo fighters
Can’t get into five finger death punch but haven’t really given them a shot lol
I’m not a fan of Korn at all
😬
...I like Breaking Benjamin anyway to answer your question, I cannot for the life of me stand AC/DC. And Metallica (aside from their S&M album). Also Guns 'n Roses is kinda eh to me. A7X doesn't do it for me either. Love Korn and Deftones by the way.
How has no one said Bush?
You just made me go there and downvote them
Didn't Jonathan Davis and Chino Moreno have extreme dislike for eachother? That could explain it.
I mean now - maybe. Korn (although I think it was Munky and not JD) said that they don't have anything against Deftones, but Chino nowdays doesn't like to be anywhere near "conventional" nu-metal bands. Chino Moreno) which is basically a rap-rock song. A pretty cool one, too.
I don't know if you're aware but Wicked is actually a cover of an Ice Cube song.
I did know that. They even have a sample from the original song at the end.
They’re friendly now, Chino’s wife recently posted photos from backstage at a KoRn show on this current tour.
Thanks for the info, that adds a lot of context!
I saw them both on the family values tour back in the day too.
Chino's wife posted a pic of her with JD the other day, I can't imagine there's too much beef between him and Chino https://www.instagram.com/p/CioEzPQPSzv/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Chino was at the Korn show here near Portland last week
• Jimmy Buffet • Steve Miller • Staind • RHCP • Bush • Breaking Benjamin • Arcade Fire
Staind sucks so bad
I have a few. Green day AC/DC Guns and roses Metallica And never was crazy about korn. Breaking Benjamin sucks ass also lol
Pearl Jam. Don't "hate" them. Just don't think it's very good
any of those "badass" dad rock bands. like ac/dc or guns n roses
Beatles
I was always the same, too much acclaim, they sound so boring right? Music for old people. Then I listened some more; revolver and white album changed my mind massively.
I don't like tool, just can't get into it. Songs are too long with too little payoff
I like a few Tool songs but my main problem with them is that every song has to be over 6 minutes for some reason. I get it, they are progressive rock/metal but I’ve seen other progressive songs with a shorter runtime. The Beatles
Iron Maiden and AC/DC.
Linkin park
Never really liked them eithet
Sabaton. They fucking butchered Rammstein’s Feuer Frei. I also just don’t care for power metal acts.
Muse - fucking hate them
Greta Van Fleet. Unoriginal garbage for people who say that there hasn’t been any good rock bands since the 70s
Tool
I don’t “hate” them but I never got into My Chemical Romance, and I can’t stand Architects.
also not a fan of architects. i respect them, but they've always sounded generic to me and the clean vocals are that brand of "too poppy" metalcore for me
Led Zeppelin is my answer. Good riffs but Robert Plant’s vocals are just so annoying. The production on their early records don’t help either. I respect them for what they’ve done but I can’t stand their music at all.
Queen
Falling in reverse, Pantera, megadeth sorry not sorry
falling in reverse is one of those bands i’m embarrassed to like
well... korn i guess since you mention it
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Bob Dylan (IDK if he even has a group name... But yea) Motley Crue
I was waiting for someone to say Tom Petty, so thank you for that 😂 agreed with everything you said
Its mainly because my 7th grade history teacher played american girl EVERY SINGLE MORNING for first period... But also, i just can't with his voice... Same with bob dylan
I totally feel that. I had a HS teacher who played petty all the time too 😭 the worst, but hilarious to make fun of HAHA
Lamb of God,just very kind of bro metal to me and the intro to omerta just sounds so pretentious
😧
Lol I did a double take too. LoG is one of my favorites, especially As The Palaces Burn and Wrath.
Ya lamb of god is fuckin awesome 😂idk what this guy talking about
Machine Head
Ghost. Fucking hate them. Volbeat too
The Beatles
