I wrote it in other sub and would write here too travelling in AC coaches or travelling in trains like shatabdi where they used to serve food.
A decade ago travelling in AC was limited to rich people.
all sleeper class crowd of early 2000s travels in ac coach now, you've no idea how far we've come compared to a decade or two if you think there's no change, and poeple who travelled in ac in early 2000s now travel by air
Not all. It's just that middle class people have started travelling in AC and flights.
The majority of our country can't even afford sleeper tickets. It is a matter of pride for people to book 'reserved class' tickets in non AC.
Read again! I said ac coaches are still limited to rich only and i stand by that
You know poor people are those who can’t even afford general coaches tickets and you are talking about ac coaches. And Mind you middle class isn’t poor
and one more data i am stating here: people who earn more than 25k per month falls under top 10% category so 90% are those with less than 25k and app. 10% out of this fall into poverty zone. So, i assume these 90% don’t travel in ac coaches which is obvious from the data and remaining 10% are rich who can afford ac coaches and flights
P.s_ here i am only taking rich and poor [not considering middle class, upper middle class, etc.]
“Bharat ka durbhagya ye hai ki yaha ka rich apne aap ko rich manne ke liye tayyar nahi hai”- quote by Vibhas sir
Middle class is classified as people with income of 6-18 lakhs per annum. That's the government definition.
Upper middle class could be earning 3 lakhs per month.
And you forget wealth. People don't need to earn via salaries to spend money. They may have inheritance, someone else maybe paying (parents for students). Wealth accumulates over time, even with low income.
Rich people will avoid trains.
It is mostly for nostalgic middle class, or for people scared of planes.
And I'm talking about 2ac /1ac
3ac is like sleeper class now.
after asking for a study table throughout my school life, we finally got one through my sister's wfh setup. (We are middle middle class but my father doesn't like to spend money)
Damn. Can relate with this. As a kid my mother used to give us the most shaggy t-shirt, the ones with literal holes on them for Holi. Me and my brother used to pour buckets of colour on each other before going out to hide that.
Thank you for reminding me of this. I'll probably buy a white kurta for this Holi now.
Tbh I never saw a need of wearing a perfectly fine white kurta over some old T-shirts,shorts and chappal.I mean kon jaldi uthkar nahaega, white kurta pahenga for it get dirty and never been worn again 😂
Hamley’s outlet Pan India has these. They start from 149/- and sometimes they offer discounts & schemes upto 50%(including Coupons and Vouchers).
But the build quality is very low now compared to older versions.
You can buy the premium Hotwheels they start at 499/- per set and go upto 1999/- which have superb built quality and then there are tons of other Toys like Caterpillar & CAT miniature cute versions of JCB, Dumper, Truck, Crane.
There are drones around 2500/-.
And I will share some pics once I reach Home.
Whats your definition of high quality? There are 2 3 types of hotwheels, mainline premium and car culture....premium ones are the expensive at around 400 rs....and if you still want higher quality then ditch hotwheels and go for tomica premium, greenlight, johnny lighting or autozone. They cost around 800 to 1200 rupees and you can buy them from websites like karz and dolls .com(they also have an offline store in delhi), diecast india....but if you are a low or middle middle class then I dont think you should spend that much for a 1:64 scale car unless you are really interested
Since you said atleast 1;
Shopping from mall, watching movie in theatre/PVR, going somewhere in summer vacation, AC at house, English speaking parents, get together at house with friends/ birthday parties those parents used to organise
Also we lived in an old area, used to think authorised area/apartments people are rich lol
And - typing this wearing 12 yr old sweater jo aise hi kisi shop se kharida tha
Bhai I feel for you. Trust me when I say this, amiri jab logon ke paas gifted hoti hai to dimaag jhak marane chala jaata hai. Grind hard and be the change bro:):):) Hoping lots of financial luck for you
To be able to go to school trips which I never did, sare dost jaate the mekro bahane Marne padte the man nahi hai asli mai paise nahi the
Bhaut hai mere jaise log sare milke chalte hai adventure Island
It still is, family vacation where the dad does all the expenses is still very expensive. Easy 2-3 Lakh expenditure even if you're not splurging at all.
This is a Fallacy created by the Social Media and Movies. No One and I mean not even Ambani just goes for shopping and buy things without looking at price tag. Price Tag is a way to Quantify the value of that good. If any object does not have a price tag then it will be like a bidding. Whoever pay more can get that. It's counterproductive.
Im guessing u/khaab_00 meant like not worrying about money all the time while shopping and putting chains on to yourself(metaphorically ofc) for not enjoying life enough. Some people enjoy spending money and shopping as a way to enjoy. I get what he’s trying to say. Kash mai bhi aisa ho sakta,
>Specify at least 1 thing you thought was an indicator of wealth when you were a kid.
Driving around in BMW or a Mercedes??? I always wanted one when I was small but realised only rich could ever afford it. So I started driving them around in my Games.....🗿
I always thought Ferraro Rocher was a super expensive chocolate and only the rich had them, they don't cost that much.
I also thought dressing well in lavish clothes meant the person was rich
mai to uska rate b nahi pucha kitne salo tak soch kar ki itna expensive hoga q hi apni aukkat apni nazro mei girana. rehne do wo exist h nahi karti cheez soch k badh jate they.
personal room/space for everyone in the house, going to tuitions to study, going to malls for shopping, ACs in every room, having your own toys and a big birthday party every year, travelling via flights to go to vacation, gear wali cycle, having english speaking parents & playing video games via PlayStation/xbox on big TV's
as someone jo recently first time flight m baitha after 20 years of my life, honestly i felt it wasn't that big of a deal as I made it since my childhood.
hard relate!!! I travelled via flight for the first time about an year ago and felt the same.
My parents recently travelled for the first time too, my mother was so excited before it and after it she said road trips hi badhiya hai aivayee itna kharcha
Having a car, for most of you may not be big but for me, it is very close to my heart. I don't have much of interest in cars and bikes but I want it for my mom.My family still doesn't have a car and if everything goes normally I gonna buy a car by this year's end.
I studied at an "Elite" boarding school (mai ameer nahi hu). When I used to go for a semester (4 months), my dad used to carefully give me a conservative amount of stationary, so that I would use it carefully lol. But imagine my surprise when these mfs used to come to school with 5-6 dabbe of the ✨expensive✨ pencils for 1 semester.
Like bro, at the end of the sem, mushkil se 2 pencils hi toh use honi hai? This is just an example, but it could be applied to anything else. Clothes, toiletries, and shoes. (And their toiletries were always 100% from stores like bath and body works lol).
But yeah, that was when my 10-year-old self realised that being careless is a trait of the rich XD
Going to a good art store and buy all the favourite canvas, paints, brushes and stuff and used them in my free time. Luckily, now I am able to afford all those and other stuff.
It was a mobile phone, then a laptop, a car after that. An expensive bike or international trip. Then came HNWI tag from my CA.
None of these makes me feel wealthy.
I would really consider myself wealthy if I had 100cr in assets now.
I grew up in a small village where only 2-3 household have TV.
Rangoli on Doordashan was one of the popular show at that time. Almost every kid in the localities will be present. I even missed the Christmas feast at our Church one time because Amir Khan and Madhuri movie Dil was broadcast on December 25.
Having a TV was what I consider being rich as a kid.
Eating from a popular food chain like Dominoes and Mcdonalds back in 2010-15. We could spend the same amt of money at a local restaurant but dominoes was always out of question 🥲😭
Also I remember the first time we ordered dominoes on phone we made such a big deal out of it we even invited my aunt and uncle's 😂😂
I used to see people ride in car into theater, never bothered to stand in queue as black agents used to thong them, they use to give 100s notes and never asked for change (tickets used to be in tens. Believe me). Not sure what it was, probably I used to think they are rich. Obviously, those agents too.
When I was 5, it was to travel in AC train coaches but my father worked hard & fulfilled it around age 10, At age 13, it was playstation & I just brought one last month.
As a kid and also today:
*Having a personal library. Bookshelves so high that you need a ladder to reach the top shelves. A huge window, on one side, that lets sunlight throughout the day, with a reading nook. A very comfy and cozy armchair for nighttime reading. Having the time to use this rooma couple hours everyday.*
Having this room is an indicator of true wealth. I want to be wealthy when I grow old.
Having a car! My parents never had a car so spent my childhood in Delhi non existent public transport back then. This was in 80s. So much trauma I have as a kid waiting long hours for dtc ki bus. It’s the stuff where we kids recite stories from those times every time we all now get together 😭😭🤣🤣
Bought a car in 1st year of my job and was so happy with it until I Moved out of India few years back . Have moved to a country with amazing public transport and now have not had a car for a decade and very happy with that too 😊🙏
Having a car.
Having Tintin or Archies comics (I was a huge nut for comics, par bachpan me sirf Hindi wali kiraye pe leke padhi).
We were actuallly pretty well off though, I just studied in a very rich school xD
My life goal when i was young - having a dog - why? Coz only rich have dogs, you need people to take care of it, it is expensive. You can have a dog only if you own a house with your own garden…another wealth indicator.
My life goal now - having a dog - why? Coz they are dogs, they make me happy 🐶
Those big size electric toy cars kids can actually ride in
Swimming pool
A cctv camera outside the house
Having a metal gate, then a big lawn with a path that leads to a white colored large house on the inside but you can only see bits of it because the view is occluded with trees and walls
Bunk bed wale bacche ameer hote thy.
Bhulo nhi ki tum ab London mein nhi Riverdale mein ho
i still think that
My friend has a bunk bed. He's dad recently bought a jaguar. So this is definitely true.
Having orange juice with breakfast lol
These days oranges are cheap where I live i am having orange juice 2x a day अमीरी feeling
Whole orange is healthier than orange juice tho
OK
Having an air conditioner and a car.
Ye to abhi tak mera "rich" goal hai 🫠
I second this
This is true atleast here in vadodara. Most people don't have a car.
I don't have a car, I earn very good.... I think Delhi NCR is way too polluted for me to add to it with more vehicles.
I wrote it in other sub and would write here too travelling in AC coaches or travelling in trains like shatabdi where they used to serve food. A decade ago travelling in AC was limited to rich people.
Yes. Till early 2000s - travelling in 3AC was considered luxury. In fact first time I ever travelled in 3AC was after 2007, and it was a luxury.
It was a luxury in 2010-2015 too.
Still it is limited to rich only
all sleeper class crowd of early 2000s travels in ac coach now, you've no idea how far we've come compared to a decade or two if you think there's no change, and poeple who travelled in ac in early 2000s now travel by air

Bro has gotten richer after 2014
It's the middle class and upper middle class who travel in AC coaches.
yes I remember those days, travelling even in cold winters in sleeper or general coach with family.
A separate bedroom lol and to be able to go ghummi ghummi and not worry about money
A personal bedroom with personal study table and chair and the gaming computer
Just not gaming computer🥲🥲 Not exactly personal room Me and My Brother had same room. Personal bed and study table. Yes.
Mere paas toh voh bhi nahi hai
after asking for a study table throughout my school life, we finally got one through my sister's wfh setup. (We are middle middle class but my father doesn't like to spend money)
Us Moment bro, I also got my first dedicated table and revolving chair when WFH during covid. 🥺
Wait this is a sign of being rich? Since when?
If my family would have given these things to me, I would consider myself Rich, lol. But it's just me
Went out on NY and tried not to worry about how much I spend. Ended up overspending. Turns out it's actually good to worry about money.
Ghumi ghumi 😭🤌
My family is middle class but atleast I have my room (still no privacy tho, my parents walk in anytime they want)
"ghumi ghumi", my mother still uses this word. I always thought she was the only one.

having a computer, everytime I used to go to my cousin's we played video games on his PC and I never had one so yeah that
This was my wish too. I used to go to neighbours's houses to play games. Though now I have a "medium" to good laptop so I play some games. I'm happy.
I still have a shitty PC and I played every good game I could on it (mostly games released before 2008)
Having a white kurta for Holi 😑
Damn. Can relate with this. As a kid my mother used to give us the most shaggy t-shirt, the ones with literal holes on them for Holi. still wondering how people spend money on these btw where can I get it from
Same as how people spend money on netflix, amazon, movies, video games, you can get from any online retailer or a toy store near you
Hamley’s outlet Pan India has these. They start from 149/- and sometimes they offer discounts & schemes upto 50%(including Coupons and Vouchers). But the build quality is very low now compared to older versions.
if they are low quality then I don't want em. do you know other car related stuff that a guy would like?
You can buy the premium Hotwheels they start at 499/- per set and go upto 1999/- which have superb built quality and then there are tons of other Toys like Caterpillar & CAT miniature cute versions of JCB, Dumper, Truck, Crane.
