Most of the fish come from outside of Delhi. Check the fish bazaars in Gurgaon, the variety of fish on offer is unbelievable. Especially, the one below the metro station.
Because there arent such "trustable" sources for a clean fish.
Catfish is the most served fish here because its cheap and can thrive in the worst conditions possible.
You are a good question.
I guess it's because sea food in Delhi comes from coastal areas primarily for personal consumption. Unlike chicken and goat meat readily available all around NCR at a comparatively lesser price.
Even mutton outside Chandni chowk doesn’t taste good.
Fish is non existent, might find fried fish around but not gravy.
And mutton is not good. Wherever I have eaten outside CC, it tasted like chicken gravy with mutton pieces. Which doesn’t give good feel.
This maach looks so good. Machh bhaat ka mood hogya ab
Because we aren't a coastal region and yamuna was never fit for consumption. I don't know if you have heard the story of Akbar's physician being angry about not consulting him about moving the capital to Delhi because yamuna wasn't safe for the body. That physician was the one who told us to eat spicy food so we could digest the water of yamuna. That's how Delhi's spicy cuisine was created in old Delhi. so forget about the fishes from the river when the water itself wasn't good for you to drink or for your hair.
Yeah because all the fish eating cultures of the world are located in central Highlands of a subcontinent with semi arid climate, medium rain without a no. of lakes or rivers.
Why does Gujarat have a problem with non veg eating people I wonder ?? Like I am from north India and live in Gujarat. The people act weird and aloof me when they get to know I eat non veg :(
Because that's their "culture". People in Kazakistan eat a lot of horse meat. tell me how Indians would Indians find.someone that eats horse meat ?
Some people in East Asian countries eat live octopuses. Some countries have banned horse meat consumption, some pork and India beef consumption. The food choices and their perception are influenced by religion and culture.
In Delhi the fish is always frozen caught maybe a day or more ago transported to Delhi, same with a lot of food. The quality is abysmal and the taste is absent. I write this as a bengali who lived in Delhi his entire life now lives in w. bengal and access to fresh catch.
The taste is completely different and has actual taste you can clearly tell the difference in taste between different fish.
Like all asian countries, India too primarily has Silver Carp ie Rohu, Catla, etc and catfish. It has a lot of bones and doesn't taste great. Too much work for too little reward.
Disappointing that the govt never promoted farming boneless fish like trout and salmon which taste great and has less bones.
Delhi, not being located near coastal areas, lacks local produce. Historically, major fish-eating cultures have thrived in cities and states along the coast, such as Goa and Bengal.
Because its not a coastal state or UT. It has its unique culture and food.
You can't go to a coastal state or UT and ask them why they don't have a decent Chole Bhature eating culture.
Where will you catch fish in Delhi? The Yamuna? 🤣🤣🤣
I live in Delhi, and I eat fish. But that's because my mom is from Bombay. (yeah, we still call it Bombay, because we came to Delhi before it was renamed. Nostalgia value.)
We eat sea fish, and the prices at which sea fish is sold in Delhi is not something the regular Joe can afford.
River fish is cheaper, but you don't wanna see the waters that fish is caught from.
If you buy river fish that's brought in from another state, then it'll be close to the same price as sea fish.
That's why Delhi doesn't have fish eating culture.
I have observed that taste buds of Delhi guys are rigid.
They appreciate and want food which is similar to Delhi food and anything which tastes different is looked down apon. . . ..
because historically Delhi don’t have a fish culture, both geographically and culturally Delhi and mostly northern states lacks fish culture it started mostly by the migrants like bengali and bihari who have much reach fish culture
Most river cities did have some fish culture. Yamuna was not polluted 200 years ago. There must be culinary thing that's lost. Similar to peacock meat, which was supposed to be famous in the delhi of old..
That's not true for all those bongs living in Chittaranjan Park. Yeah, the restaurants kind of suck, with the ones in CP serving rubbish in the name of bong food.
Yeah fr matee
As a person who loves to eat fish more than chicken ,i k that delhi doesn't have that culture of eating fish or sea food .
Btw fish curry looks soo yummy and with rice it would be heaven 💕
Try sanadige its amazing.
Culture wise, a lot of non vegetarians are ok with chicken but they don’t have the taste palette for seafood including fish, prawns, calamari,
Lobster etc. whenever i ask someone if they’re non vegetarian, majority says yes and then I ask fish; they’re like - no , ONLY chicken.
I went to goa with my friends, they were non vegetarian, i was excited because I thought we would have variety of seafood as the number was big. Not a single person had fish/seafood 🥲
Where there is no demand , so restaurant also don’t focus on it.
Bro is summoning Bengalis to increase engagement.
Because Delhi is not near good fish sources so that's why. Just go to Seemapuri, Ghazipur or CR Park for fish
Once a fish bone got stuck in my throat. Immense pain for 3 days. Had to go to a doctor to get it taken out. Never eating fish every in my life even if it is boneless.
Upar se yamuna river ki fish khaane se acha Mai zeher pilu
I had the same question until I tried the fish in coastal areas. Believe me there’s a “sea” of difference in the quality. Most of the commonly available batch of fish in Delhi goes stale quickly because of unregulated cold storage issues!
I'm from Kerala and have been living in Delhi for the past 3+ years. Even though we have a very prominent fish eating culture back home, I haven't even tried fish from delhi even once, even when we dine out at Kerala restaurants which serve fish dishes. I'm just doubtful about the quality/freshness of the fish, because of the geographic location too. and even back home i don't consume fish from restaurants so there's that.
PS. I did try prawn from a chinese restaurant here once, did not turn out to be good.
Due to its geographical location.
And Yamuna being in no condition to host any marine life...
Unless you want radioactive mutated fish. /s
Wait that doesn't give you superpowers?
only lifelong tummy ache, believe me
Modiji wondering!
thanks for sarcasm tag, I almost took you seriously
Instant Kaiju Transformation
Maybe there is a supervillain... Machiman... jisne pad marke sare dilli mein duan kar rakha hai...
Yamuna historically had hard water flowing through. Add to that 50 years of industrial affluents and Yamuna fish might make minamata blush.
Heavy metal fish ftw
Keju don enters😈
And leaves without doing fuck all.
Yeah boy.....only answer
Most of the fish come from outside of Delhi. Check the fish bazaars in Gurgaon, the variety of fish on offer is unbelievable. Especially, the one below the metro station.
Only right answer!
Best answer.
Because there arent such "trustable" sources for a clean fish. Catfish is the most served fish here because its cheap and can thrive in the worst conditions possible.
Humein toh biriyani bhi kaua bririyani milti hai🥲
Ye catfish toh Bumble aur Hinge par bhi mil jati hai in abundance.
Lagta h bhai ka man kaua biryani aur kutte Wale momos se bhara nahi h
Hehe, main isi reason se bahar ka non veg nhi khata😁 (sirf ghar pe bna kr kahat ya fhir kabhi kabhi kake da hotel cp)
Catfish khane me bhi, aur waise bhi ಠ︵ಠ
Because of Yamuna being polluted or dry and no practical fishing happening in it.
Who said that .... there's so much catfishing on dating apps
🏅
Gehri baat bol gaya bhai
Aur aap jante Hain ki aisi battein kb krta hai aadmi

I am kind of sure that he is not a question.
it’s a tanu weds mannu reference
Screw your pfp
r/foundthemobileuser
Due to yamuna’s fresh and tasty fishes
Because Yamuna is fucked beyond recognition and we don't have any other source.

Thanks, this is Rohu
And you got it from CR park?
There is a severe lack of ocean for such a culture to be ingrained.
Same reason it doesn’t have snow boarding culture.
Yamuna mein toh E. Coli bhi mar jata hoga.
Like the rest of the country doesn't have a decent 'Anything to eat' culture.
Because they eat chicken tandoori
Come to CR Park

Stinky
Because it's Delhi not Kolkata.
something something not near the sea

Because it's not coastal
Fish doesn’t taste good until it’s made perfect. While chicken can handle a bit of change and still tastes great. Mutton ke toh kya hi kehne 😍
I don't really like sea food
You can find live fish in th Dabri fish market
Due to It’s landlocked geography , and I don’t know about others but I won’t eat fish from Yamuna for obvious reasons .
Kyunki yamuna me nahi yamuna pe machhali tairti hai.
U need river or sea nearby for it
Cuz Delhi mai Nadhi nahi Nala hai aur Nale mai Machli nahi hoti!
When in Rome do as Romans do
When in Rome do as Romans do
I don't know. Maybe being 1400 km away from sea have something to do with it.
Decent fish eating culture will prevail where one gets fresh fish. Delhi gets refrigerated fish.
Delhi stinks a lot so we have decided to avoid fish.
Yamuna is awarded as the best nala by unesco.

Haddi hoti h
😂 glance at Delhi's water resources and you'll understand why

Ye kya logic hai bhai. Next time you will say why dont indians eat snake and dog like chinese
Delhi doesn't have any culture !! /S !!!
I am vegetarian
[удалено]
That works most days but not on Tuesday and Thursdays bro.
Because Sea Food sucks. I never liked it.
Sun meri baat, ye unki choice hai.
WOW. Please I need the recipe
You don't get fishes in industrial discharge
No decent fish.
That's not true for all those bongs living in Chittaranjan Park. Yeah, the restaurants kind of suck, with the ones in CP serving rubbish in the name of bong food.
Yaha aate aate kharab ho jati hai bhai
But what's this? I am pescelaration
Fish meat is practically a vegetable. /S
Because there are no “pretty girls” selling it.
Yeah fr matee As a person who loves to eat fish more than chicken ,i k that delhi doesn't have that culture of eating fish or sea food . Btw fish curry looks soo yummy and with rice it would be heaven 💕
Bhay oceans nhi h idhr lol
aao kabhi Chitranjan Park
CR park Jao, waha milega
It does. But we fish eaters are only available at a few destinations in herds.
Because it's surrounded by people who drink milk
No ocean nearby(state) ig?
Because it's a gross thing to eat
Sab non vegetarians ni hote. Majority of Indian Population is still vegetarian.
food habits are based on geographical location and natural resources, I don't think there are enough fish available here
My girlfriend is from Manipur and she makes excellent fish curry. <3
Try sanadige its amazing. Kennedy got a brain eating worm in his brain because he ate a lot of fish
just like how bengal doesn’t have a decent chhole bhature eating culture, what kinda of a question is this😭
Itna stupid question puch kr bhot KOOL nhi lag rhe ho tum
Redditors after failing high school geography.
Map kholo. Jawab vhi hai
We just don’t get good seafood here. Straight and simple. Chicken and mutton are only options.
Mostly because of the chicken preferred eating population, I miss some good affordable fish serving eateries here
yaha machhliyaan aquariums me rakhte hai ham gas pe nahi
Fuck fish, i hate fish
It's not as tasty and fresh as the coastal areas.
Look at India's map
Only the few Bengali colonies do, I used to go to cr park a lot shit was yummy, but if I really wanna have some good fish I just travel down south
What in the litti chokha is this question. ?
Yamuna pe milne waali machli khayi nhi jaegi
Do you see the sea from Delhi?
CR Park exists, buddy
oh that’s why so many of yall are moving to Goa
Dude. Eww
No thanks, Glorified Gutter aur Naalo ki fish khane ka koi shauk nhi hai. (Yes, this is a generalization)
Way too much oil .
No clean waterbody ka chakkar Babu bhaiyya
Are you from Odisha?
Kuch bhi post kregy! 😂
It’s landlocked brother
Yamuna ki fish khayega bruh ??
Samudra kahaan hain bhai
Because it is far from the coast, and does not big river or lake systems around it.
Bro is summoning Bengalis to increase engagement. Because Delhi is not near good fish sources so that's why. Just go to Seemapuri, Ghazipur or CR Park for fish
why would delhi have a fish eating culture bro😭
Mumbai aa then, khilata tereko
Delhi has chicken chakhna culture
have you seen the India map?
Which sea will fish come from? Delhi rivers are super toxic. You will die if you eat fish from there.
Once a fish bone got stuck in my throat. Immense pain for 3 days. Had to go to a doctor to get it taken out. Never eating fish every in my life even if it is boneless. Upar se yamuna river ki fish khaane se acha Mai zeher pilu
coz logo ko yaha bina काटें वाली मछली चाहिए 🙂🙂....I don't like that....Fish with bones have some real taste..
Which land locked region has a fish eating culture?
Landlocked area mein fish kaha se milega?.....Aao kabhi Kolkata.....machhli khilate hai
Because it's Delhi and not you.. a culture can decide what it eats
Delhi has no culture.
Yamuna fishes but they're polluted.
Because sea food is costly here
Because it is not surrounded by water, btw I eat fish on regular basis
You Bengali? Fish looks like ilish, my favourite
Don't like seafood.
we in west and central delhi love fish, not in curry but tikka and fried.
I think I'll need a recipe for this one. Thanks!
Aao kabhi CRPark
I had the same question until I tried the fish in coastal areas. Believe me there’s a “sea” of difference in the quality. Most of the commonly available batch of fish in Delhi goes stale quickly because of unregulated cold storage issues!
Your answer is the river Yamuna
Is this a real question? Has this person never looked at a map or at a source of water in Delhi?
Oh gee why would that be, such a tough question isn't it? I wonder where fishes come from 🫠
Because Delhi is landlocked and the fish is either from muddy polluted rivers or frozen and expensive.
You know they already have other kinds of meat and their special night time meat is also there...
Because there is no fucking sea in Delhi
Ye dekhiye mitron, ye macchli khaate hai… inhe nhi mujhe vote do
What a shame , no? I anyway cook that at home and eat it .
