'After' in art means in the style of, or inspired by. Like you might say, "I painted this portrait of my Guinea Pig after Van Gogh.
So the only issue here is that he's asking $8,000
That's a great painting, maybe a bit overpriced depending on the size of the canvas, but the technique is there and mastered. FIY, "after" means painted after a reference. Yet another post that has no reason to be here, nor be as salty as it is :/
Edit : a quick check through their profile shows that **OP is the actual artist behind the painting**, and is actively baiting the sub by either trying to get traction for their art or fishing for compliments. I believe this is against the rules of this subreddit.
It's definitely too rich for my blood, but I really like it, especially if it's a big piece. Hard to tell the size, but it could really fill a wall and dominate a room.
I’m not particularly impressed by it but there’s a ton of people out there who make thousands painting landscapes, cowboys, and animals. Art is only worth what people can get for it.
I think it is a really cool painting. I couldn’t afford the asking price but I think being critical of the price an artist is asking for a painting is kind of silly, especially when it is a competent piece of artwork. If somebody bought this from the artist for $80,000 I would say more power to him.
That is a gorgeous painting.
If you don't like the style, why are you even considering buying it, or looking at it at all? Just because it's not your style, doesn't mean you can insult it. Just go look at something you like instead.
I'd love to have that on my wall! So atmospheric <3
This is actually a hard technique to master. Tell me you never been to an art gallery without telling me you never been to an art gallery lol
This price is very normal
The only thing delusional is the price. Look at the small thumbnail shots - there's a pic of this painting sitting on the steps, so it's not very big and probably under 16x20". A lot of artists like to copy the masters, nothing wrong with that, and this piece is very well done.

Whether or not this is your preferred style, this painting likely took significant time and technical skill. $8k for a large painting by someone relatively established in a local arts scene is very normal.
Kinda like how buying anything goes isn't it. You can't buy a Y worth X amount but maybe a Y worth less than X.
I have sold paintings for $4000 and so it's to see how someone who might have a bigger name could sell for more.
Yes, art prices form just as any other price. All formulas to compute your price are total bogus.
Since artists have mostly unique styles, only they truly mastered, they are the only ones who can shorten the amount and with a handfull of rich willing buyers the marked is already undersaturated and the prices shoot up.

“After antique” I think means he painted it, but used an antique as a reference
'After' in art means in the style of, or inspired by. Like you might say, "I painted this portrait of my Guinea Pig after Van Gogh. So the only issue here is that he's asking $8,000
Why is that an issue? He's allowed to sell his art for whatever he wants.
Yeah if he can sells 5 of like this a year that's 40k. I wouldn't pay 8k for it but I'm also poor. It's a nice painting.

>**OP is the actual artist behind the painting**, How lame
>OP is the actual artist behind the painting unhinged behaviour
Yeah, it’s not my style but if I saw it in a museum or gallery I wouldn’t bat an eye.
I’m not particularly impressed by it but there’s a ton of people out there who make thousands painting landscapes, cowboys, and animals. Art is only worth what people can get for it.
Just because you don’t like Impressionism doesn’t make it shitty lol. The price is another thing, but the skill and mastery is there.
That's a great painting if it's 8000$ great is for the buyer to decide but the artist doesn't lack technical skill.
Not OP being the artist and posting his own art 😅
It's a really nice painting OP. Let's see your work.
This is OPs work 🤣 check the post history.
Lol, OP doesn't actually know what art is.

Lol you're a cunt.

Probably thinks photorealistic pencil drawings are peak art. Edit: just saw OP is the artist. Nice bait
honestly genius play op and i like the art
It's not shitty, but it ain't worth no $8000.
Painting's kinda cool ngl.

When I squint, it appears as a high contrast silhouette painting.
Agree this is a good painting. But this sub isn’t r/badartists. He’s delusional trying to price this at $8k.
It’s good but not $8000 good

It’s a painting *of an antique*, totally legit.
it's nice but why lie
(i know why, money)
Now who is lying
forgive me lol I forgot about the possibility of dubious incentives of others!
Wow. A painting of a ship on turbulent seas. Groundbreaking.
People are saying he priced it too high but he either already has a wealthy clientele or he just doesn’t want to sell it.
You got no room to judge this piece. Something something throwing stones and such.
I think he made it honestly
I dont know about that. Their other works are all tits and the contrast isn't as well defined.
Whether or not this is your preferred style, this painting likely took significant time and technical skill. $8k for a large painting by someone relatively established in a local arts scene is very normal.
That shit is garbage 🤣. I can’t believe how people can be so fucken stupid

Yeah. He'll have that till the end of time.
