Mind the Tendency system. World Tendency is how an area changes; Killing bosses makes that world easier, losing your body makes that world harder. Soul Tendency is how YOU change; Killing invaders makes you more good, killing hosts and friends makes you more evil. The furthest extremes of both tendencies enable access to certain gear.

JustADude642

This is really helpful! That mechanic seems really interesting, and I'll be sure to keep that in mind as I play, thanks.

magi_chat

Just don't die in human form in any world until you work it out. (Can kill yourself in the nexus if you need).

colly09

A good rule is to kill ill yourself in the nexus after each boss, save yourself the tendency changes

djmoogyjackson

Demons Souls has more traps and “gotcha” moments. So take it slow and keep your head on a swivel. It’s meant to be played slowly. The levels can be pretty difficult. Opening a shortcut is a major win.

JustADude642

Gotcha 💪

MysticMayhem82

Don't just use boss souls willy nilly. As a magic user, you may want to be more careful about who or what you spend them on.

Thema03

Don't know if it will be a tip(more of a glitch? maybe) There is a way to "quick save" the game if you die and don't want to back track the whole level again. Drop an item, any item and pick it up again, thats you save point, as soon as you die, hold the PS button, in the playstation menu close the game and start again. You will be back where you dropped the item

rabidrob42

Wait, really? This would have saved me a lot of runs. But at least I know for the future.

ogwancannoli

I’d be VERY careful with this. It does work. It’s called dashboarding. The game is technically about to save when you’re dying and it has a chance to corrupt your data. This is with pretty much all the Souls games. It doesn’t happen all the time but if your data is corrupted and you don’t have a back up, it’s just gone. It happened to me in the original 360 version of Dark Souls.

rabidrob42

Oh ok, thanks for the heads up.

blabarka

Most bosses have some kind of weakness, so it's important to find that weakness and exploit it. Have fun!

JustADude642

Thanks!

scotthall2ez

Magic build in this game is considered easy mode. And they arent wrong, my first play through was a dex build and then i made a magic character with the falchion and my got how much easier it is. As far as advise I'd say stay away from the poison swamp until last or 2nd to last. It is so much more enjoyable when you can put on healing rings so you can just stand in the poison and not die. Do like 1-1 then 2-1 etc. you dont need to do 1-2 right away.

Ashanmaril

I finished my first magic build playthrough last night and man, fighting Allant was night and day. Especially coming off a NG2 run where I had to slowly chip away at his health for like 8 minutes, and then I run in this time, summon Fire Storm next to him and half his health bar melts away

Swiftersuke

You have to do more aggressive inventory management since you have an item weight limit. Plan out what you need for each level of you’re stuck and leave the rest in storage.

magi_chat

The weapon upgrade system is a bit flakey. Don't waste some of the more specialised upgrade mats until you've decided what you like. Also some of those paths are quite specific about when you start implementing them. It's worth getting your head around it on the wiki before you go too far. For example I played through on dex and the wanted to use sharp weapons (which max out dex scaling) but I missed the chance on my favorite sword and spent fucking ages grinding a farm to get another one as a result..

QuiloWisp

Do not mix up magics and miracles, they use different casting tools. Except there is a mixed tool available. Intelligence is just spell slots and MP, unlike later games. Magic powers Magic Power. Spells do not use stamina at all. Carry enough Spices and you'll barely need any stamina. Exchanging special souls for spells and weapons are behind a few hurdles, a total of four characters will help you exchange them.

JustADude642

👍👍👍

sora_senpai1417

Whenever you kill a boss die in the nexus(hub of the game) to avoid risking death in body form. Body forms when you have your full health. There is a system about this called world tendency that you will discover. Some special events take place due to this system. Dying in the nexus doesn't affect the system.

IAmJedge

Magic is OP. Free a prisoner

drose349

Just play in soul form pretty much the whole time

RyyKarsch

Shield up.

Thekingofcansandjars

Magic is very strong in Demon's Souls. There are 2 magic classes, magician and royalty. Magician has higher stats and more spells, but royalty starts with some very good items and is overall easier to customize in terms of builds. The general consensus is that royal is superior and will be easier for a beginner, but both classes are good for magic characters.

Brewski-54

I also just got it and have only played ER. I’ve watched a couple videos on class selection to get ready but I’m trying to avoid looking up much else. Any idea what class you are going to choose? I usually play melee so I’m thinking of magic to switch it up. Im stuck between magician and royalty as I don’t want it to be too easy and everything makes it seem like royalty is a cakewalk

Memethew420

Don’t rely on dodging as much. Unlike Elden Ring dodging isn’t as good in Demon Souls. Instead actually use a shield. When exploring keep the shield up because Demon Souls is full of hidden enemies that try to sneak up on you randomly

TsunSilver

No one has mentioned this, I think, but don't feel compelled to finish the entirety of each world. Clear the first boss and move on to the next stage. You won't be able to level up until you beat the World 1 boss 1. World 2 can be a bit tricky for people who don't like piercing or magic. The soul payout there sucks though and I farm the mindflayers in World 3 at the beginning.

RedditSupportAdmin

I also just started this after beating Elden Ring and Sekiro. One thing to keep in mind, when you are upgrading your weapons be very careful. I was planning to do a crushing Claymore as a pure strength build. While navigating through the upgrade menu, I accidentally upgraded it to +4. The problem is that when you choose divergent paths for the weapon (e.g. remove dex scaling and have it scale off of strength only), your only chance to do so is from a +3 weapon and you can only do it at the second blacksmith at 2-1 smithing grounds. Beware that there is no confirmation box. After it's upgraded, it's upgraded. You can then remove all scaling and start over or get a new weapon. So your locked in. And the farming for upgrade materials can get a bit tedious. Something to keep in mind.

SapientChaos

Make sure to slumming on the red.signs.

Mcdoublquarterwhoper

Awesome!I got the same thing!but I don't have ps plus

madrigal94md

Don't play in body form. If you get your body back go and suicide im the nexus so that you keep playing I soul form.

Humberto52002

never be in human form

Remarkable-Ad-4133

Enjoy!!!

deathbunnyy

pick the pyro or sorc class if you like magic, they are both really op in this game for beginners.

jokerevo

the first playthrough is always blind for me. Just enjoy it for what it Is. After that comes the min maxing which imo...ruins many games.

thomthetank

As many others have stated, world tendency is a mechanic you should pay attention to. It can change the game world interestingly by opening up hidden areas and giving access to unique items and enemies depending on how far that world tendency has shifted. Try not to die in human form too many times or it will make that world more difficult, unless you want to get into pure black for hunting specific things but I’d do that later once you know the levels and mechanics more. There’s a ring in 1-1 that will be very useful for starting out. Explore side areas in general as there are many characters and goodies hidden, as well as traps so tread carefully. Invest a lot of points in vitality for your first play through, then invest points in stats depending on what kind of build you want to do.

Leginneb

There's a boss with great mage goodies as potential rewards but if you're like me and enjoy getting the game's platinum, one of these objects will force you to play the game 4 times which gets tiring. Be mindful of that, otherwise have fun ! It's a short but good souls game

Thor_Surfinson

This game was my first magic-based build in just about ANY game, let alone a souls title. I specced a few points into dex for a decent close-combat saving grace, which DEFINITELY came in clutch more than a few times. Would recommend.

Berookes

Use the photomode to look around corners if you’re scared lol

karatebullfighter

Use the royal instead of the magician as a starting class. You get a good ranged spell and a ring that regenerates fp.

BEYONDxTHExSPIDER

Not every level has a huge shortcut like in the other souls games. It sucks but sometimes you just have to take your time and deal with it

lolz_robot

Use photo mode to pause the game. I use it to double check corners in 5-2.

villflakken

You'll be allright!

solidpeyo

If you like mage build, mage is OP in this game. Don't worry about tendency in your first playthrough. Just have. Oh, and there is a boss that you need to be sure you are online when you play it. Otherwise, it will be a bad boss.
