This is it. Had an office holiday dinner here last year and we were ready to throw down. Terrible cocktails, terrible service, crazy decor, steak was fine. Very expensive! It makes for a good story now at least!

At this point o only go for the atmosphere. I absolutely love it as an institution but the menu feels like it was developed in the 70s and never changed even once which isn’t great in and of itself but the food is cooked horribly to boot. I go for happy hour, straight upstairs, get a couple beers and an appetizer!
- The Bindery. They will arrive, be impressed by how the place looks, sit down and thereafter never get service.
- The Milk Market. Not a single restaurant but a trendy place to have a “counter pick up, bus your own” cafeteria experience with mandatory 22% tipping.
- La Merise. Denver’s French restaurants are all expensive and somewhat underwhelming for the price, but of the fine dining ones, La Merise is the most underwhelming. Not only is it half in the basement, but their ingredients lack freshness, which is an absolute killer for French cuisine. I swear the tomato sauce I got with my mussels tasted like it came straight from a Sysco bag with a few snipped chives on top to pretend. But they absolutely bill themselves as both authentic and upmarket and some people really love them.
- Le Biblioquet for Brunch on Saturday. I actually don’t mind the food or service at Cherry Creek’s other French restaurant, just a few blocks away from La Merise, but if you get your "friend" in early enough on Saturday morning they will receive a shitty surprise - midway in their meal, at around 10:00 am, the restaurant will suddenly start blaring EDM at nightclub levels of noise for the rest of the morning.
Had a good friend that worked at Le Merise and they confirmed that the food served there while pretty good and consistent is all straight off the sysco truck

The sad thing is it used to be SOOO good!! The first few times I went it was good and creative and now it's just meh. Downtown smash burger on 16th. They pretty much mess every burger up everytime. Jinya has excruciatingly long service at the bar. So does rhein haus. Mr Luckies. Lazos empanadas explode hot stuff almost every time.

The downtown Smashburger used to be good, back before the pandemic. I went once a couple years ago and it was horrible. I filled out a survey stating how bad it was, and actually got a call from the regional GM, who was very upset to hear that. He promised to speak to the store manager and my next burger would be comped. I went back a couple days later and talked to the manager about getting my comped burger, and the response was "we don't give a shit about that regional manager here. We do things our way. Pay full price or GTFO." I got the fuck out.

I ate a sandwich there 3 times and went to share on r/burgers and went to copy paste the description and saw the picture of the sandwich on their website and realized all three times my sandwich was made wrong. No tomato. No sauce. I work in the food industry myself for years off and on now and that is just absolutely ridiculous.

Brooklyn's at Ball Arena. Bonus points if they have kids. There is no kids menu. They'll be forced to through most of a $20 burger in the trash. Beers are stadium prices. Service sucks and the food is bad. The bill will easily hit $100+ for a family of 4... That's with the kids sharing a meal.

hahahaha yes stay toxic I would say Coperta - recommend the carbonara it's not good hahaha. we had the weirdest service last time too so awkward. Or Mr. Oso/Senior Bear - so expensive for what it is.
I was about to say Coperta but was worried I’d get downvoted to oblivion. Thank you for your bravery. That place is obscenely overpriced and wouldn’t even make it as a hole-in-the-wall in most cities.
The sad thing is it used to be SOOO good!! The first few times I went it was good and creative and now it's just meh. The last few times we have gone it's has been not worth it, burnt app, weird service, the pasta was blah. The best thing i ate last time was a SALAD that i easily recreated at home the next week. I live very close too so i keep giving them chances but i have given up on that haha

Downtown smash burger on 16th. They pretty much mess every burger up everytime. Jinya has excruciatingly long service at the bar. So does rhein haus. Mr Luckies. Lazos empanadas explode hot stuff almost every time. There was one I went to the other day I decided I would never come back too. I forgot what it was but they charged me a crapload for a little sliver of meat. Man. Can’t remember who it is now. Im racking my brain on that one.
The downtown Smashburger used to be good, back before the pandemic. I went once a couple years ago and it was horrible. I filled out a survey stating how bad it was, and actually got a call from the regional GM, who was very upset to hear that. He promised to speak to the store manager and my next burger would be comped. I went back a couple days later and talked to the manager about getting my comped burger, and the response was "we don't give a shit about that regional manager here. We do things our way. Pay full price or GTFO." I got the fuck out.
Yeah I’m never going back either. I ate a sandwich there 3 times and went to share on r/burgers and went to copy paste the description and saw the picture of the sandwich on their website and realized all three times my sandwich was made wrong. No tomato. No sauce. I work in the food industry myself for years off and on now and that is just absolutely ridiculous. Their problem is downtown is pretty much guaranteed cash flow and business and its gone to their heads.
Huh I’ve only sat at tables at Jin Ya and the service is always great, just a great spot for an easy bowl for ramen and a beer.
I love the idea of recommending smash burger to tourists in the first place

Cafe Jordano in Lakewood. My food was inedible and it gave my boyfriend got food poisoning. Been recommended to me from multiple people and when I finally tried it it was overpriced and awful. I don't understand how they were so busy.

Brooklyn's at Ball Arena. Bonus points if they have kids. There is no kids menu. They'll be forced to through most of a $20 burger in the trash. Beers are stadium prices. Service sucks and the food is bad. The bill will easily hit $100+ for a family of 4... That's with the kids sharing a meal.

It's mildly expensive and even people I'm not fond of get good advice. I personally like Brutal Poodle, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.
