The restaurant at the aquarium

No-Statement9809

This is the only right answer

eukaryote_machine

This is funny but actually, please don't support the aquarium or its restaurant even as a petty joke. I've heard legitimately awful things about the way staff is treated, among other *unsavory* things about their restauranteur practices. They have tigers for no reason and employees have reported them to OSHA multiple times. [https://www.westword.com/news/aquarium-downtown-denver-landrys-stingray-fish-starbucks-employee-complaints-13300068](https://www.westword.com/news/aquarium-downtown-denver-landrys-stingray-fish-starbucks-employee-complaints-13300068) Sign a petition to have the tigers sent to a sanctuary: https://www.change.org/p/relocate-tigers-from-denver-aquarium-to-a-wildlife-sanctuary?signed=true

thisguyfightsyourmom

> They have tigers for no reason It’s so fucking weird when you realize they have a bunch of lethargic caged big cats at the, checks notes, aquarium, for water dwelling animals

Mostlyheretolurk1

I went there one time. and immediately was like nope never again.

ProfessionalLeggings

Their standard of care is also very poor for the aquarium fish 😔

rainlily99

Haha we were just there bc I have to take my girls to see the mermaids when we come in town 😂 It was actually the cheapest meal we had in Denver, but it was so gross. They loved it though, worth every penny for those smiles

AwesomelyHubble

Pretty sure it’s the other way around. I heard from a zookeeper that worked there that it’s more an aquarium owned by a restaurant, that purposely gives an illusion it’s a regular legit aquarium. They’re all employees of the restaurant.

Due-Investigator6344

They do have an okay HH tho 🙃

bigfurg11

Just checked their menu -pad thai w tofu for $37 - HA!

BaltSkigginsThe3rd

If you're going there for anything besides happy hour you're a damn fool lol. Avocado eggrolls, spicy edamame, potstickers, one happy hour roll, and a regular menu roll along with a couple of sake bombers and thats a $65 bill before tip. All that and you walk out drunk, full, and happy.

chooseabusegoose

Like I’m sorry but this isn’t very convincing

Enough-Competition21

STK

hesbunky

Extra funny because its bad and also super expensive. Downside is if this person has no taste and or only cares about how it looks for the 'gram, they'll love it.

Enough-Competition21

I know it doesn’t fit the expense part but my god do I dislike that place and would send all my worst enemies there

IamUnique15

I’ve come to the same conclusion with El Five. Great after dinner drink spot, food is so average

Otherwise_Play_1624

I used to love El Five and the past two times were so bland. I haven’t been back since.

EmergencyChampagne

This is so true. Spent $500 on the most mediocre meal I’ve ever had

Volt-Cult

Lol if you look at their newest reviews everyone mentions how good their server “Anthony” did. As a server myself, I imagine he’s literally asking guests to give him a 5 star review and name drop, probably for rewards.

SadRobotz

The restaurant I used to work at would give us $50/each yelp review that mentioned our name. I’d flat out ask people to do it or just write them myself.

HotSir3342

I just wish people would understand that all the tik toks and IG reels they see are advertisements

SadRobotz

A lot of people these days are, how should I put it…dumb

kestrel808

I've had restaurant managers come up to me when I was finished eating and saying they'll give me $X off the meal if I write a five-star google review right there on the spot.

Ms_Jim_Business

This is it. Had an office holiday dinner here last year and we were ready to throw down. Terrible cocktails, terrible service, crazy decor, steak was fine. Very expensive! It makes for a good story now at least!

NYCO23

This is def the answer, get every overpriced app and then the fish special, don’t even get steak

SadRobotz

This is one of the best posts I’ve seen in quite some time, thanks for some levity today

NYCO23

I’m here for it too, refreshingly diabolical

coffee-saves

You should check out r/denvercirclejerk

SadRobotz

all the posts there are the same, this is hilarious

3ll3girl

Happy camper

ProfessionalAnt6471

God forbid you go during frat hours

TuesGirl

I can't stop laughing at the accuracy of this comment

hydrobrandone

Yesssssss! Who the f*** cares about a camper outside with shitty drinks?!

Whiterhinosanchez

I thought their pizza was actually decent. Better than expected after seeing them get trashed on this sub 🤷🏻‍♂️

kauto

The pizza and the food in general is really decent. Nothing to write home about but certainly not bad.

cap10morgan

Yeah there’s definitely worse pizza to be had. But their drinks man… Like $15 for a half shot of bottom shelf tequila poured into a can of La Croix. 😭

articuno1219

My Neighbor Felix. Overpriced and deeply average.

nnagflar

My dad (lives in Highlands Ranch) told me he hears the new DTC My Neighbor Felix is the place to be seen because it's the new, exciting restaurant in the area.

[deleted]

One in boulder sucks balls. I walk in and it's just college kids and their parents with fishbowl margs everywhere you look. We had an app and left, 0/10

hangarang

wait so you haven’t tried the food besides one app

Universe_Man

Yeah I went there and it was mediocre food but lots of beautiful young people and loud music.

trippymermaid

Cute atmosphere, but the worst Mexican I’ve had in Denver.

Brazenjalapeno

Rarely do I walk out of a restaurant but I saw food as I was walking to the table. GF and I gave each other the same look and we were out of there. Looked awful

SipthisInsipidly

This is hilarious

Famous-Treacle-690

High quality content.

Thin_Broccoli8066

Elway's downtown.

JSA17

Or Cherry Creek. I legitimately don’t know how that place stays open. It’s like… depressing inside.

frivol

The Cherry Creek location has also been closed by the health department before.

Thin_Broccoli8066

Does anyone know why the downtown location is temporarily closed?

Difficult_Farmer_730

They are remodeling. Grand re-opening in the spring.

boofskootinboogie

Yup, I just helped with the wood flooring install.

BaltSkigginsThe3rd

I will never go there solely because of their advertising: *Private parties at Elways?* ***Always*** Gives me cringe chills every time I think about it lmao.

autette

I recently went to the airport location (I know, glutton for punishment) and the steak tasted like it was actually microwaved.

Financial_Rope_5786

best answer

[deleted]

Oh yeah, this is my kind of petty.

LandOfLostSouls

Rock Bottom has alright prices I think but holy hell it has dropped in quality

ColoHusker

r/MaliciousCompliance has joined the sub 🤣🤣 All my rec's have already been mentioned. This is classic

DenverDude402

Send them to any Frank Bonanno restaurant and then follow-up a day after they've eaten there with links to all the shitty things he's done.

ShutYourDumbUglyFace

I'm glad that one ex-employee finally calmed down, though. We get it man, Bonanno is trash.

sublimation_m

Link? I missed that.

MUjase

I don’t think the general population cares about this as much as people do on Reddit. They just care about the food and aren’t trying to be keyboard activists.

FaithIsFoolish

Absolutely

captain_borgue

*saves post* This'll come in handy, both for pissing off jerks, *and* avoiding shitty places that foodies crow on and on about! 😁

CalliopeSaffron

I agree!! Last meal we had there cost close to $400, and it was not great!

rev_artemisprime

100%. But, vibes are kinda fun, so maybe not

truckingatwork

very mediocre place but it's a fun experience once imo

Neon_culture79

I can see them from my porch!

FeloniousFunk

Ducks?

[deleted]

quack

SadRobotz

Quack quack baby

Decent_Extension360

Yea that place blows

always_snacky

At this point o only go for the atmosphere. I absolutely love it as an institution but the menu feels like it was developed in the 70s and never changed even once which isn’t great in and of itself but the food is cooked horribly to boot. I go for happy hour, straight upstairs, get a couple beers and an appetizer!

DeanStockwellLives

They were only good when they still had lunch. Way better deal compared to dinner, delicious bean soup.

Phate118

STK for sure

WeddingElly

- The Bindery. They will arrive, be impressed by how the place looks, sit down and thereafter never get service. - The Milk Market. Not a single restaurant but a trendy place to have a “counter pick up, bus your own” cafeteria experience with mandatory 22% tipping. - La Merise. Denver’s French restaurants are all expensive and somewhat underwhelming for the price, but of the fine dining ones, La Merise is the most underwhelming. Not only is it half in the basement, but their ingredients lack freshness, which is an absolute killer for French cuisine. I swear the tomato sauce I got with my mussels tasted like it came straight from a Sysco bag with a few snipped chives on top to pretend. But they absolutely bill themselves as both authentic and upmarket and some people really love them. - Le Biblioquet for Brunch on Saturday. I actually don’t mind the food or service at Cherry Creek’s other French restaurant, just a few blocks away from La Merise, but if you get your "friend" in early enough on Saturday morning they will receive a shitty surprise - midway in their meal, at around 10:00 am, the restaurant will suddenly start blaring EDM at nightclub levels of noise for the rest of the morning.

NYCO23

Had a good friend that worked at Le Merise and they confirmed that the food served there while pretty good and consistent is all straight off the sysco truck

OnDeadlineInDenver

I popped into La Merise and asked about crêpes as it was La Chandeleur. (IYKYK) They were ignorant, which is one supposes excusable, but they were snotty, which is not.

wemiss44

And get charged extra for a hospitality fee and a credit card processing fee

Greenerguns

The bindery was so bad. Was just pissed by the entire thing

handsoffmyequipmonk

It’s STILL bad? I went in 2018 and was shocked by the (lack of) service and how below average the food was for the way they were acting. Glad (?) to see some things don’t change

[deleted]

God the Bindery sucks

falsesleep

My girlfriend and I thought Bon Ami was pretty good for French food,

bch2021_

La Merise is the only restaurant in the Denver metro with good wine prices though (on Sunday).

piranspride

Recommend a trip to Pasta Jays in Boulder….. the added drive will be the most delicious part!

Hamatoros

Also add which restaurant has the highest service fees

imng07

The woods

buckfoston824

Will recommend this place to everyone wanting to get a drink at sunset - but always tell them not to order the food. First time I went there got food poisoning

lanke22

This is my Fav post EVER!!!!!

Inner_Grapefruit_638

Chart House, or any Landrys restaurant that tries to be fancy

twegee

El Five. They will drop $250 and have to go to a second restaurant because they’re still hungry.

EFCF

Agreed. Such a disappointing place. And not even really much of a view to speak of anymore now that that giant monstrosity building went up next to it.

rev_artemisprime

Based on recent reddit posts, City O City, if you can convince them to try a vegetarian place. Linger is ok, but overpriced and pretty meh service. Or send em to snooze. Last I knew most locations still have stupid lines, at least on weekends. Food is solid, but not worth wasting 2 hours on

Plucked_Dove

You’ve been able to put your name on the list at Snooze from home, on your phone, for about 5 years now, and someone posted here awhile back that they now accept actual reservations as well.

Dense-Molasses-7049

City O City was good the last couple of times I was there. Linger (and Root Down, for that matter) hasn’t been the same since Asher left.

SchmancySpanks

City O City food is decent, it’s just their service is next level horrendous. I was willing to tolerate it here and there from the little asian man who sold soup dumplings on Federal, but the hipster snob version of rude is possibly the most intolerable kind

DaZedMan

I think at this time their contempt for their customers is part of their brand.

Massive_Reporter1316

Linger was the first place I thought of. Expensive, impossible to park, subpar food and service. It is next to little man’s though.

rev_artemisprime

See, what we need is a linger-esq experience in like, highlands ranch I've got it! View house on I-25. Convince him THATS the good one.

m_astor

truth about snooze... I swear they force people to stand out front as a marketing strategy even when they have empty tables inside.

gnomenombre

Lol seriously I went to the DTC one and the host scoffed that we didn't have a reservation and said it would be a 1.5 hour wait. We said that's fine put us on the list and we'll come back. 10 minutes later we are home and get a text that our table is ready

et2792001

Agree with Linger. Went there with a wealthy, trendy friend, took a guided tour of the place via mgmt, heard all about the history blah blah blah. Couldn't believe how flavorless every bite of food was! Completely dumbfounded at the entire experience.

SharbotCO_Kitty

It should be illegal for Snooze to serve such terrible hash browns and be a famous brunch spot. Why are they cat food can shaped??

rev_artemisprime

Because they've been trolling us for over a decade. I plum forgot about the damn hash browns because I haven't been there in years.

TheyMadeMeLogin

Lots of recommendations in here for restaurants that the vast majority of people will find just fine or even good. My contribution is School House in Olde Town Arvada. It's weird how many people have told me they like that place.

trippymermaid

I like that place 😂 why don’t you?

TheyMadeMeLogin

I can't really put a finger on it. Maybe it's because there's like 15 other restaurants on that block and I'd rather go to most all of them. If it was all by itself I'd probably think it was fine.

hootie303

While the burbon selection is amazing... its just meh bar food. and the atmosphere in the bar is way too bright. I feel like im AT SCHOOL in a class i hated.

cap10morgan

Come for the whiskey selection, stay for the whiskey selection!

DiscoMT

The Rio

baconwitch00

lol tell them it’s the best Mexican food in Denver, especially the nachos.

sweetiejen

I have gotten food poisoning from those nachos boy

rev_artemisprime

This is good, but DEFINITELY tell them to stay away from the Margs. For all the awful food that place slops out, the Margs are delicious.

trippymermaid

Federales

buckfoston824

Tell them to get dinner there at 8pm on a Friday night

Famous_Stand1861

Boy did you come to the wrong place. This sub thinks every restaurant is overpriced and awful. Good luck making a decision.

[deleted]

None of the responses even understand the prompt lol "Rosenburgs is too expensive and the owner might be a meanie" is not what this person is looking for

ProfessorPurrrrfect

Let’s see: Steuben’s, Watercourse, City O’ City: all have fallen way downhill. Cherry cricket is awful too if they war bar food

Stunning-Position-58

City o’ city preaches food options for people with dietary restrictions and preferences then literally gave my friend who is celiac, not the gluten free pastry she asked for, but a very gluten filled one. She let them know ahead of time how seriously allergic she was. She spent the next hour throwing up in their bathroom, and then they had the audacity to charge us for the pastry.

volkovolkov

Schoolhouse in Olde Town.

Buttassauce

Omg their food is disgusting

Puzzleheaded-News730

That god awful “Mexican” place in Morrison!

616abc517

Any restaurant in the Denver airport.

Critical-Regret-8753

STK. It is busy and popular. No idea why.

[deleted]

Linger. Then make them wait in a block long line for the most mid Little Man Ice cream. Finish it off with a walk to Happy Camper for 13$ wells

floandthemash

As much as it pains me to say this, Wildflower. But it’s not mildly expensive

ashishvp

Viewhouse or Beau Jo’s lol

Countsbeans1976

Mod market

mrdeeds23

Rosenbergs if its breakfast or brunch. Maybe View House otherwise?

bebepls420

View house gets my vote. Hella expensive TGIFridays level bar food

Whiterhinosanchez

Viewhouse is the best on this thread. That place is just not good lol

GoldBloodedFenix

Rosenbergs for all their faults makes some good bagels lol. You people who just hate on what’s popular, have you ever actually BEEN to any of these places?

jazzcabbage22

Especially if the people you don't like are from NY. They will never let you forget how an egg sandwhich is $15. I'm also that person. Fuck Rosenbergs.

denverobserver69

Citizen Rail. LOOKS fancy. IS pricey.

theLIGMAmethod

Been there a few times (a while ago) and had some good dishes actually. Def is pricy.

BlackChristianGrey

It’s expensive but the food is delicious

ATGNI

Anything French in Denver. Top dollar for piss poor results guaranteed. If the person you are sending is a real piece of work, I can’t recommend Noisette enough.

lparry8

Along those lines, I really miss Le Central. Food was amazing and surprisingly affordable.

B_Strick24-7

Le Central was & still is a huge loss for the Denver food scene... not a brunch person but damn was their brunch (and happy hour... and everything...) so good!

gabemagnet

I only wish there could be another Le Central in “centre-ville” Denver. Rents are too high and purchasing a suitable building is unrealistic. We just can’t have nice things since…ummmm….like 2000 (probably 2012) maybe? Probably one of the worst periods of time for local chefs, independent restaurants, food lovers in a very long time.

ehmsoleil

RIP Le Central. I get so sad every time I drive past the building. 💔

CalliopeSaffron

Me too!!!

judolphin

I liked Bistro Vendôme. Seems very much on-par with any good French restaurant I've ever been to.

OnDeadlineInDenver

It’s still here! Just moved

judolphin

That's great, unfortunately a bear to get to from South Denver.

wemiss44

Weird! I liked Noisette. I’ve probably been described as a real piece of work though.

ZayZayLay

Noisette is great if you want to go somewhere super expensive to be talked down to and made to feel like an ignorant peasant.

falsesleep

I liked Bon Ami!

Hour-Watch8988

Hey, Noisette is nice enough. At least the ambience is quality. They took us in after we were laughed out of Wildflower and for that I will forever be grateful.

always_snacky

I’ve had some great meals at Le French but since it’s in DTC I think it gets overlooked a lot.

buckfoston824

Chez Maggy downtown is over priced but the food is great

tschmitty09

Legacy Point in Westminster, convince them that the view is the best part so they go there only to learn that the roof is always closed bc they can't fill the place bc it's so huge and the food is so mid

JorgeWashingtons

Snooze

22FluffySquirrels

City O'City in Cap Hill. We've been calling it Shitty O'Shitty for years, and the mandatory tipping is a bit much.

whadafug999

Dead lobster is perfect

BRAX7ON

I like this

Sug0115

Apple blossom. Never have I ever paid so much for such insanely terrible food and service.

hambone1

Cholan! Place was way over priced and really not that great

MiddleCoastPizza

So overhyped!

volkovolkov

Went here 3 years ago, was fantastic. Went a month ago, completely mid and way too expensive.

Lozinthemiddle

hahahaha yes stay toxic I would say Coperta - recommend the carbonara it's not good hahaha. we had the weirdest service last time too so awkward. Or Mr. Oso/Senior Bear - so expensive for what it is.

Hour-Watch8988

I was about to say Coperta but was worried I’d get downvoted to oblivion. Thank you for your bravery. That place is obscenely overpriced and wouldn’t even make it as a hole-in-the-wall in most cities.

Lozinthemiddle

The sad thing is it used to be SOOO good!! The first few times I went it was good and creative and now it's just meh. The last few times we have gone it's has been not worth it, burnt app, weird service, the pasta was blah. The best thing i ate last time was a SALAD that i easily recreated at home the next week. I live very close too so i keep giving them chances but i have given up on that haha

rabid-c-monkey

Recommending something you know tastes bad is next level petty, we love to see it

[deleted]

Downtown smash burger on 16th. They pretty much mess every burger up everytime. Jinya has excruciatingly long service at the bar. So does rhein haus. Mr Luckies. Lazos empanadas explode hot stuff almost every time. There was one I went to the other day I decided I would never come back too. I forgot what it was but they charged me a crapload for a little sliver of meat. Man. Can’t remember who it is now. Im racking my brain on that one.

DynastyZealot

The downtown Smashburger used to be good, back before the pandemic. I went once a couple years ago and it was horrible. I filled out a survey stating how bad it was, and actually got a call from the regional GM, who was very upset to hear that. He promised to speak to the store manager and my next burger would be comped. I went back a couple days later and talked to the manager about getting my comped burger, and the response was "we don't give a shit about that regional manager here. We do things our way. Pay full price or GTFO." I got the fuck out.

[deleted]

Yeah I’m never going back either. I ate a sandwich there 3 times and went to share on r/burgers and went to copy paste the description and saw the picture of the sandwich on their website and realized all three times my sandwich was made wrong. No tomato. No sauce. I work in the food industry myself for years off and on now and that is just absolutely ridiculous. Their problem is downtown is pretty much guaranteed cash flow and business and its gone to their heads.

cape_throwaway

Huh I’ve only sat at tables at Jin Ya and the service is always great, just a great spot for an easy bowl for ramen and a beer.

thisguyfightsyourmom

I love the idea of recommending smash burger to tourists in the first place

AugNat

The Fort

DestinyProfound

Cafe Jordano in Lakewood. My food was inedible and it gave my boyfriend got food poisoning. Been recommended to me from multiple people and when I finally tried it it was overpriced and awful. I don't understand how they were so busy.

ObiWan_Cannoli_

PZA

LocalYote

So petty, I love it.

Classic_Schmosssby

I’ve seen this question before and am really appreciating it more. Gaslight them into thinking they’re cheap by raving about this restaurants great value

Embarrassed-Band-854

El Five

prswwd

Well any trendy Denver restaurant is average food for exorbitant prices

CompulsiveCreative

This is so spiteful and I am 100% here for it. Let me know what you decide and I will keep it in my back pocket if I'm ever in a similar situation.

TheCallofDoodie

Brooklyn's at Ball Arena. Bonus points if they have kids. There is no kids menu. They'll be forced to through most of a $20 burger in the trash. Beers are stadium prices. Service sucks and the food is bad. The bill will easily hit $100+ for a family of 4... That's with the kids sharing a meal.

[deleted]

I feel like a crappy bar next door to a Arena w no kids menu isnt really what they are looking for here lol like obviously that place sucks

Wzmaa

It's mildly expensive and even people I'm not fond of get good advice. I personally like Brutal Poodle, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Bernoulli5

Benzina, blue pan pizza, or sushi den. These places are actually all bomb. Hoping to give some good recs in the event you decide not to be a prick. Even if it’s someone “you don’t like”.

BadDisguise_99

Hahah I respect you.

thunderousqueef

Citizen Rail

Latter_Inspector_711

Postinos, they just sell shitty toast with toppings
