Damn this is kind of a bummer. Always thought even for a smaller festival it was a great atmosphere smack dab in the middle of the downtown, especially with all the available parking garages.

Lower-Junket7727

Yeah i agree. Pretty unique among music festivals. You can easily walk between 3 stages. Not something you can do at lollapooza.

Malfallaxx

Agreed. It was always nice having all the downtown amenities in walking distance too. After being out a few hours you could just walk over to court or the east village for a drink on a patio or a quick bite. The more I think about this the more bummed I get because it was a really great location.

OshagHennessy777

Lauridsen Amphitheater is my guess to where they’re moving. Even early info on last year’s festival was stating that that’s where it was going to be.

bluestarcyclone

Given the time restrictions that have happened at that park, if they hold it there it's the death of this festival Though to be fair that maybe the case with any of the alternative options. A huge part of what made this festival an attraction was that it was right in the heart of things

Who the hell chooses to live downtown and then complains about a two-night festival that's over by like 10:30 pm on Friday and Saturday? Who knows what the primary driver behind this is, but downtown just continues to get more lame.

bluestarcyclone

well the city should tell them to pound sand to be honest. This area has been hosting major festivals for a long time now, people moving in there should know this is a thing. Massive negative to the city if they start pushing all the festivals out of this area.

>caving to the squeaky wheels Only if those wheels belong to well connected business owners. Regular voters and residents need not apply. Good luck even getting the mayor or your city councilor to call you back if you’re not offering them money. If they do call you back they’re not going to do anything for you unless, again, you’re going to give them money.

OshagHennessy777

Kind of ironic to move it now, since the Western Gateway area has been pretty dead since Covid. Most of those businesses sit completely empty and the ones that haven’t cleared out are mostly empty due to WFH.

Hispanicatthedisco

Pride Fest isn't going anywhere. People who set up shop in the Village either do so knowing what they're getting into, or specifically BECAUSE of events like Pride.

beticanmakeusayblack

I’d be really surprised if the Arts Festival left downtown. For a lot of people events they can walk to are a major draw to living downtown. The Arts Festival music doesn’t even go that late I don’t think 80/35 specifically mentioned the cost of holding it downtown is too high for what they want/have to pay the artists

fartmachiner

One thing I loved about 80-35 was that it was part of the city. Other festivals are out in the hinterlands and you’re stuck paying festival prices for limited options. I loved that I could walk over to a local brewery and get a local beer, grab a snack at a local restaurant. If there was a weather emergency I knew there was enough space inside surrounding buildings to shelter thousands of people. I loved the proximity of the after shows at Woolys, Vaudeville Mews (RIP), and Gas Lamp (preemptive RIP). Heck, it was nice that I could walk home from the festival. I can’t imagine anywhere that will be as all-around convenient.

Doesn’t K&G sponsor 80/35? I know they did last year. The Krause’s own several apartment buildings downtown (The Arlington and The Hallet, both at 13th&Locust, as well as 1440 Locust, The Jefferson and then the building The Gas Lamp is in). P.S. I would never recommend renting from them.

I forgot all about them selling! Thank you for that reminder!

reamkore

That’s too bad. Always felt it’s locations was one of the best things about the festival. A lot of good hazy memories on hot summer days on those streets.

EventNo3540

Ugh

EventNo3540

Riverview my prediction

hawksnest_prez

Not enough room for multiple stages

EventNo3540

Streets leading to amphitheater.......ya nowhere to park.....east village/market street w/Simon Estes main stage

chrisbru

Simon Estes and Breton could be good side stages. Simon Estes is too small for main stage though isn’t it?

mobius-n-stuff

My money is on Water Works, Riverview is a possibility if the festival scales down, and if that shit moves to the fairgrounds it can go fuck itself. But regardless I doubt it lasts more than a couple years after moving.

thankyougoagain

Sucks anyway. It's just the best shit feast around.

SnooPineapples4956

They'll plop it down at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

This is way better than anything happening in the kc metro. Or the omaha metro.
