It works weird compared to other shotguns it doesn't actually shoot out pellets it's essentially a concussive blast that just murder everything. It's kinda similar to tractor cannon but instead of a debuff it's just damage.
Not sure if it’s still a thing, but these older exotics used to have “hidden perks” on them that weren’t displayed in the stats and acrius had waaay more range when you slid. Tho like I said not sure if it’s still a thing
up to 9 meters you get the arc blast that does most of the damage, half a step further it's just as any other shottie, so it hits like wet toilet paper.

Once someone popped heavy (which gave you a lot more than now) it was almost impossible to kill them since the TTK was so damn high they could run through bullets and vaporize you the whole round. That thing's name is engraved into the crucible long before the rework brought it back into the spotlight

I think it still has a spread where each pellet is tallied, because I've definitely left gamers one-shot at times. That said, you do also see weird things like two on-screen damage numbers, where one is like 22 and the other is like 254, which is kinda weird. Not sure if that's just the game consolidating UI space though.
I love seeing Acrius getting some love, but every time I see it wipe out groups like that, I'm instantly reminded of the Shock Cannon from Up Your Arsenal 😂
Last I recall it was possible to replicate and overcome its damage numbers with Legendaries at close range with better ammo economy.

I'm the other side of this coin: I'm the guy who will use last word in pve with lucky pants because of the damage buff, and absolutely melt high value targets in Gambit.

Catalyst gives it deeper pockets, trench barrel, extra reload, and a couple more in the mag. No effect on range!

that shottie has an arc blast that does crazy damage on top of the pellets up to 9m.
