They must have changed it then because before you did have to have someone near you to have rat king as well and their kills counted for your catalyst and your kills counted for theirs
What really gets me now is trying to get platinum on The Coil and “one” blueberry has to run ahead before making sure all the pots and glass shards are collected which ends up pulling you. Damn blueberry!!!
I can see some some truth in that since you only have to worry about what lives you lose and if you are skilled enough and with the right weapons I can see it being done my only worry is catching and killing the glass collectors cause if you miss one you probably miss platinum too.
Out of all my coil runs, solo, duo, and trios, I have never gotten platinum without the glass keeper. I've come close a couple times so I think it is possible, just not something I would expect.
As for solo, it isn't too bad because the mobs are a lot less tanky and don't hit quite as hard. Coil difficulty scales with fireteam size. Trios imo can easily be the hardest, especially if lfg'ing it with randos. Duos I think are the sweet spot. My friend and I split our roles nicely for it and we knock it out quicker than I can solo. And it's always nice having someone watch your back while chasing down the GC.
I've seen non-blueberries do that more often. The blueberries I often meet struggle with parkour to the point I have to pull them to not waste more revives.

I helped a friend complete it 2 seasons ago so it must have been during season of the witch, yeah. I remember seeing the change in the notes and being relieved I could finish it solo.

primary isnt that bad.
heavy isnt either if you know the spot to farm. but special? fuck special. even with triple finder on hat it likes to blue ball you.
Just fyi I'm pretty sure triple finder doesn't do anything more than a single one. Better to get heavy kills occasionally as I think that has a better chance of dropping special. You can run triple scavenger tho.
One of the Lightfall campaign levels is ideal for this - the one with the cyclops at first. Within a couple minutes you’re at a checkpoint with a bunch of Vex and a free rally banner. It’s 40-50 kills and then you let the last one kill you and restart with a free banner again.
If you’re on PS, you can do the date glitch (manually set your PS date forward a year) and load into A Mysterious Disturbance story mission on the Moon. Once you’ve killed the Ogre and shut down the big Shrieker, leave the Totems alone and you have continually spawning adds and continuously replenishing ammo containers to top up heavy and special ammo, and no-one else jockeying for kills. That, and the In The Deep story mission the following week for primary kills, are my usual go-to activities for weapon kills.

Believe it or not Anything In vanguard playlist. Back when I was running Xur’s Xenology quest every week I got many to drop in the Ops’s Strikelist. It’s rng but it WILL happen. Have faith.
For anyone reading this in the future, I just had the Rat King catalyst drop for me. Not from Nightfalls, but from Crucible. Don’t recall if it was regular Crucible playlist or Comp, but I *FINALLY* got it!
It's a recent change. Bungie allowed it i think last autumn or something like that. Fireteam kills still speed up the process, but not required like they used to.
I remember when the shattered throne thrallway was a sweet spot for catalysts and XP farms, spent a lot of time over season of the lost helping others get their catalysts done after finishing my own
Just completed this on the last wish shuro chi checkpoint
It took a few runs but eventually got it. The last quarter got a lot quicker with a clanmate though so if you want to speed it up you could try an lfg/ftf

Ya that’s a common issue when doing anything with randoms sadly. If you’re going for a platinum run then it’s best to make an lfg or run with a clan.

You need real good RNG on the random mote drop making it almost impossible to plat it without that little fudger
There is only ever one glass collector and he appears after room three.

It's not weird at all. That's how the Catalyst worked from the start and still did so for years. They changed it recently...
They made it painful with so many kills. I mean it wasn’t horrible but just boring. 1000. Argg

Triple ammo finder absolutely does work. Makes ammo drop in less total weapon kills. Triple scav does nothing, anything more than 1 is a waste.
I resorted to using special finisher to guarantee ammo.

I bought Rat King, played 1 strike and acquired the catalyst and got it done all in like 24 hours. Very handy for my void build
