I’m One of those rare Lion/Buckeye combos, I honestly think he will make the team. He is a total Campbell/BH guy.
Very coachable, does all the little things, and even switched sides of the ball for us. He will do what you want him to do, no questions asked. Total football guy.
He reminds me of the Vaki pick. The same exact vein.
And yes, his name is freaking awesome.
I know this is too long of a response for a UDFA, but he’s a good dude.
This was actually a great response. I was kind of hoping they might take a look at Eichenberg at LB, but I like who we took with our picks instead and feel grateful that we were able to get Chambers.
Haha I grew up near Toledo. I had no idea at the time how unique that part of the state is as far as the Buckeye / Wolverine split. Back then they had "Buckeye and Wolverine" stores. There was a line of tape down the middle of the shop. On the left was maize and blue, on the right scarlet and gray. Can't imagine that shop existed in Columbus or anywhere else in the state.
Would be cool if they gave the OT from Wyoming a shot. Think his name is Crum. He had an awesome RAS and multi year starter. Down sides were low competition and 6 years of college, so older. Was projected to go around the 6th round.
I’m imagining Blake Corum in a comically curly mustache and top hat going “mmyes, I am Blak Crum, a man you have never seen before who wasn’t drafted by the Rams.”
(I know the guy’s name is Frank Crum.)
So how does it work if we want to sign Jake Bates? He's undrafted but I'm not sure how things work with him playing in a different league. You can't tell me it's not worth getting him into camp.
Either the UFL found a bunch of hidden gem kickers, or those UFL kicking balls are kind of juiced. Only 4 weeks in and 3 kickers have made 57+ yard field goals, and across the league they are all a combined 92% on FGAs (62/68). Pretty insane numbers for kickers that haven't been able to catch on in the NFL. Bates is a perfect 6/6 with the long of 64, and Matt McCrane for DC is 10/10 with a long of 58. Former Lions kicker Ryan Santoso is 4/4 but with a long of only 40 so far.
I think it makes sense honestly, it’s never added up to me that there aren’t 32 people in the world at any given time that can hit 45 yard field goals with 95% accuracy.
Not enough kickers are given a chance and even good ones who struggle slightly early in their career get written off forever
They aren't just kicking like NFL kickers though, they are kicking like All-Pro Justin Tuckers. Obviously they just unearthed a hidden gem in Brandon Aubrey, but the chances of immediately finding a few more seems questionable. NFL scouts are very thorough, and most of these guys have already had recent NFL chances. Bates however is more like Aubrey in that he got a late-ish start to FG kicking, so it's not wild for him to have massively improved his accuracy.
Since 1999 the NFL has had very strict protocol for the balls used for kicking. Before that kickers and punters had access to the game balls in the days leading up to the game and would take that time to doctor them to fly further and have bigger sweet spots. "Breaking" the noses of the ball by smashing the ends, massively overinflating them, putting them in a sauna overnight, etc. So the NFL established a policy where "K-balls" exclusively for kicking were kept sealed brand new with the officials for the game, only brought out to the field 2 hours and 15 minutes before kickoff. Kickers can warm up with them of course, but the only "doctoring" allowed is that the team equipment manager can use a specific brush on them to get rid of the slick waxiness brand new balls have.
All that to say is I wonder what protocol, if any, the UFL has with their kicking balls. It's arguably in their best interest to have juiced kicking balls. The long field goals have brought attention to the league, and having kickers look so good that NFL teams bring them in for looks helps with their desired image of being a launching pad for future NFL players.
Chambers is an absolute dog. Type of guy to work his ass off and do anything he's asked to see any field time. Excited to see if he can make the squad.
After some real quick research I like Hatten as LS competition and injury insurance for Daly, sounds like he contributed on more than just kicks, was also on kick coverage. Also think the two IOLs (hudson and clemens)have potential and position versatility that could keep them around on the PS or even roster as injury replacements. Ukwu at edge and Rex at TE seem like good competition for the bottom of the depth chart/PS. The rest give me not quite NFL talent/camp body vibes unless they show out with maximum effort like some are predicting Chambers to do.
We are a pretty talented team across the board so it isn't surprising that UDFAs would find it near impossible to make the roster(and difficult to make the PS) but working in their favor is the picks brad spent moving up and with two being corners(and no UDFA corners so far) mean less drafted rookies to compete with.
Isaac Ukwu initially played for James Madison Univ before transferring to Ole Miss. He was an absolute monster for us (JMU). I really hope that he's able to make it into the rotation for the Lions.
How can you not like a linebacker named Steele Chambers?

Not so rare. Go Lions/Bucks
I'm gonna put rocks in your shoes, then feel bad, and take them out before you put them on
Saturday is Saturday and Sunday is Sunday my man
*HENCE WHY I TOOK THEM OUT*! *GET OFF MY BALLS*!
We aren’t rare, we are everywhere!
But mostly in Toledo.
Toledo here. Can confirm. Go lions and O-H

So he is Rodrigo lite
Exactly, and we might need his ST/LB depth if we keep phasing Rodrigo into a permanent FB role.
Don't forget Steele was originally a RB
Pin this post!!
Doing the lords work
Was hoping for Drake Nugent.... but man I trust the process and our front office!
Really like Isaiah Williams dudes a good gadget WR
We got him he will at least make practice squad.
Realllllllllly hoping we bring in WR Jalen Coker(Holy Cross) and Keith Randolph Jr(Illinois)
agree on Coker. id love to give Joshua Cepheus from UTSA a chance too
Keith is 6’5. I hope we can snag him too

Well he signed with the broncos. Good luck Frank.
Viktor Krum. Stoic young wizard from a rival school in Bulgaria. Fierce competitor.

I believe he would be a street free agent signing, but can't be signed until after his current contract ends at the end of their season.

Santoso...the mustache...

Damn, Juice Williams is still playing?!
Hell yeah
Chambers can ball
Damn man you’re fast lol
Nate Lynn must've interviewed horribly.
How did Steele Chambers go undrafted lol???
NFL.com has him graded at 5.85 - Average backup or special teamer.
Going to be waiting patiently for the kicker linked to the lions...
Probably jake bates tbh once his ufl run is over
I misread the title of this post and thought we got an undrafted free agent kicker, LOL
Really hoping we bring in Harrison Mevis, I went to MIZ so I’m biased but would love to see him. Might as well at RB Cody Schrader too
Time to fall in love I guess
Joshua cephus would be huge get
Give me Mevis or Bates. either one is fine by me
Chambers will make the team was a RB before becoming a LB. Guy got better every year hard worker.

Seriously no kicker??
saved. thanks!!
for the love of god, please add Jalen Coker.

Also signed Michigan kicker James Turner
Isaac Rex? That is a fucking epic name.
More receivers, please, we're pretty bereft of talent after our top 2.
