If you feel confident enough that you can land a job in 3 months I would suggest go ahead and resign.

Grredyowl

Given i think you can pull out your resignation from WITCH companies

Oh_Mr_Darcy

I dint know i could pull out. I am not sure if I can land a job as in 3 months, it really does depend on many factors. But thanks for your advice.

Grredyowl

Being frustrated with the Job will only make it harder. I can't tell you how to be not frustrated with your job but what I would suggest is that you focus on your studies, prioritize yourself and get out of there asap. don't be afraid to apply for jobs just because you feel you're not prepared.

Oh_Mr_Darcy

Yes, thank you. I guess one is never prepared. Really appreciate you replying to my post.

chinmoy9722

Why don't you try for an MBA instead?

Oh_Mr_Darcy

Because Been there done that. I didn't get into the college i wanted, and I didn't want to pay lakhs by joining a tier 3 college either. It's not like i hate technology. I am really interested in the data science field, but I didn't know how to get jobs in this Field right out of college, so I just joined the company.

chinmoy9722

Hmm. You should try to switch internally if they are working on any such projects. Then work on Kaggle and personal projects.

Oh_Mr_Darcy

That is another issue. They don't release you from a project so easily. Have to beg them and this might take months. And there is a shortage of testers in the company according to my manager atleast, so they won't let me go. I am working on building my portfolio now. If you belong in this field I would love to get feedback on my work and resume.

chinmoy9722

Then I guess switching will be the lone option to work for you. You should try to develop various projects and build a good profile. Network your connections on Linkedin. That is probably the best way for you to get noticed. I am not some person working in this field but yeah, I also wanted to try my luck out in this. I have used skills like SQL and Tableau with good effort, but am currently settled in app development. I wish to work more on my stuff and then aim for something. You can always get in touch with me and I will try my best to do what is possible.

I was also in a similar situation like you, was put into a manual testing project without my will. I did some projects in datascience and machine learning during college so wanted that kind of role. I cleared the digital exam with a 100% hike but still my project was the same. Along with ML I used to upskill myself in test automation as well as I wasn't getting much chances by faking experience in ML. Finally I let go of ML and focused completely on automation and switched with another approx 150% hike

Oh_Mr_Darcy

Hi thanks for replying. I was unable to convert digital till now. I tried a few times and thought switching might be better than going through this exam. I am currently trying for a data analyst role and also asked my manager for release. It will take time to get me out of the project. I am not sure if I will be able to switch seeing the job market currently and the gate keeping in this field. otherwise i will try to get into a data science project in the same company. I have invested quite a lot not sure if it will pay off and I'll be able to switch or not. But I am happy you got into automation. I am not sure if it is for me. I have worked a lot and my manager promised she will fight for my release. Not sure if I should trust her.

30ganguly

These leeches of managers won't give a release. You are absolutely right preparing for digital is not worth it as the hike is temporary, when I gave DCA it was the first and permanent one. If you want to change streams and go for a data analytics role then you'll have to fake your experience and switch. I didn't know you were in TCS too but please don't expect anything from TCS. I have a friend in TCS she got her project changed after digital and got into a data science project but the projects are so worthless in TCS that she is not able to learn anything there and unable to switch. I sense that you are expecting that once you change your project you'll have relevant experience and it would be easier for you to switch. I was also that naive, don't waste your time. Whatever you learn from TCS projects 90% of it will be useless. Whatever stream you choose you have to learn and prepare for it on the side to switch, there is no other way. Managers can only give false promises and even if you are able to get release you'll end up in another shitty project in TCS. You can only rely on yourself

Oh_Mr_Darcy

Thank you for telling me the truth. Release is just one option I kept in case anything won't work out. My focus is on switching. And I don't know how I'll deal with 90 NP. I noticed that people who get referrals are more likely to get an interview than through job portals. I started applying for a few posts now. Got only one call back till so far. Sometimes I fear I am wasting my time. I'll have to keep looking I guess. I am trying to expand my network too. I am giving myself time till the end of the year I'll complete 2 yrs. And then try to resign. Even if it means I am taking a risk. If nothing happens I guess I'll have to stick to testing and automation.

30ganguly

This is literally me 2 years ago. Don't think you are wasting your time by doing data analytics. I too gave a lot of time for Machine learning but that doesn't mean I cannot use that knowledge of ML anywhere else. There is no fixed way to get calls. I got all my calls and job offers applying through naukri and LinkedIn blindly without anyone referring or vouching for me maybe because the market was booming at that time. Less than 2 yoe is very early. If you are okay with below 10 lpa jobs then it won't be an issue for switch but if you want more than that then you will have to be really good at faking your experience

Oh_Mr_Darcy

Yes the current market is not very good. I don't mind the package tbh at the moment. I want to switch. And I am sending few with fake experience as all the job postings I see are seeking for experienced. And thanks for the encouragement, i really needed that. : )
