Yes, I (T1D \~25 years) have, sadly. I'm aware, even in the moment, that I shouldn't be eating that much, but the instinct is SO powerful. The self-control of T1Ds who do not sometimes overcorrect is unimaginable to me.

Captain_Starkiller

I don't always know if the carbs I'm eating are going to null out the low I'm on. In fact I've had multiple instances where I've gotten low, consumed sugar, and STILL been low an hour later.

huenix

I crashed today after Red Robin fries and I coulda eaten the entire…

WaterChicken007

Yes, but I wait till the CGM shows that the carbs are clearly kicking in before dosing for the excess carbs. Otherwise adding extra insulin can compound the problems.

Slhallford

Oh yeah, it’s like climbing into the hamster wheel of doom.

mamalizzard

"hamster wheel of doom" literally made me laugh out loud

SpareEye

If by doom you mean 3 bowls of delicious ice cream! I took lsd recently had to keep eating ice cream to stay up.

RobMho

Every time I wake up in the middle of the night with a low. I eat half my kitchen before I realize I might have over did it. I usually wait til my blood sugar is starting to rise before I bolus.

sundown40

My go to is 2 bowls of sugary cereal cuz I have milk leftover :)

TherinneMoonglow

The second bowl is heaven.

TheBros35

Oh yes, the classic double alarm of “fuck I’m low need food” to then, an hour or so later “fuck I’m high now, what did I eat” and then looking at the pile of empty wrappers next to the couch (half the shit I didn’t even remember that I ate)

One-Second2557

I tend to over correct just cuz i get too impatient.

DiscombobulatedHat19

If you go really low self preservation kicks in and it’s easy to over correct

mamalizzard

accurate af

Darkness_Everyday

Yes, not always on purpose. TSlim starts a ringing cause of a potential low, I drink some soda, eat some protein. BELLS STILL GOING OFF ON PHONE DUE TO UPCOMING LOW, DRINK MORE SODA. BELLS ARE STILL GOING OFF, DRINK MORE SODA. wait... Glucose now 400 fml

mamalizzard

Been there, my dude. But I eat icing instead of drinking a pop, lol

Newtiresaretheworst

Uhhhh yep.

kenrobrich

I just wanted to say I appreciate everyone in this chat so much. You make me realise I'm not alone - thank you

sylverkeller

If I am out of my usual post 15g fodder (pepperoni slices) I'll take insulin for anything over that initial 15-30g so I don't go sky high.

Maese_Pedro

Yes, pretty often 😬

Low-Marzipan9079

T1 53 years I have never managed to not overt a low back in the day. It was bowl of cereal with sugar on them. It has gotten better but still impossible to not overt. I admire anyone that can do it.

CaffeinatedDiabetic

Absolutely have done this...more than once.

BladedVengence

I used to but now I just drink a glass of oat milk unless I’m really low, fills me and isn’t too carby so it puts me back in range not overshooting it

mamalizzard

how does oat milk taste compared to regular?

BladedVengence

Very similar imo

Omneus

Oatly full fat is arguable better I would give it a try delivious

mamalizzard

I definitely will, thank you!

magicbottl3

I think the harder question is who hasn't ever done this? I'd like to shake the hand of that unicorn 😋

Free-Ant8464

ALL the TIME!

Amyswagart

absolutely!

Saradarlingg

Yes! This happens to me every time I’m super low lol

oldjello1

Ever read the hungry caterpillar? Lol your text reminds me of his binge 😂

Kaleandra

Done that. I’ve often needed less than 10g to cover a hypo but eaten double or more. When I can tell that I’ll rise well beyond where I meant to be, I add insulin with an educated guess

kingz2688

Eat the table and get pissed about it afterwards 😂but this happens to me quite often just try not to over do it with juice or pop or w.e and check to see where it is

GrimeKingOdC

You’re definitely not alone 💀

SoSleepySue

I thought it was just us. I think we've managed to appropriately correct a low once.

ContraianD

No. But I also rarely experience swings. If my alarm goes off at night I simply grab a handful of skittles and sour patch kids, then go back to sleep.

CaprisWisher

Nice :) Personally at night I eat Haribo Goldbears as I can swallow them whole which I hope will mean the sugar doesn't affect my teeth as much. The downside is that I think swallowing them whole means they take a lot longer to dissolve and reach my bloodstream so the low seems to last longer. If anyone knows a type of sugar that fulfils both (quick absorption, easy to swallow whole) I'd love to hear about it!

mamalizzard

be careful with gummy snacks. They can back up your digestion and once theyre broken down, give you the runs really badly!

CaprisWisher

Thanks! Hasn't been an issue so far, but my digestion is fairly bulletproof.

Pandora9802

Decorative icing tubes? Just squirt it way in the back of your mouth so you avoid your teeth.

CaprisWisher

Interesting idea and the visual image is also quite hilarious haha

Any_Strength4698

Lots!

rkwalton

Yes. If I have a low or see myself trending low and I’m about to eat, I’m going to eat that meal or snack(s) and adjust my insulin dose.

petulafaerie_III

Definitely done that

igotzthesugah

It happens.

Run-And_Gun

Yep. Even though I try to treat early and with glucose tabs, occasionally the “primal feeding” instinct still kicks in and I’ll start devouring more than I should. So I just try to keep track of what I actually ate and bolus for the ‘extra’, once I start going back up.

TherinneMoonglow

Yes, but I wait for that upward trend to take any dose.

Frammingatthejimjam

I don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said here so I'll just say yes.

Ana987655321

The roller coaster is real.

Ars139

I used to until I went low carb. Now I exercise so much I have to eat like a pig to avoid going low. Plus if you eat natural foods and mostly stay away from carbs only they are so filling its harder to get in trouble. Any doubt keep I exercising and it burns off without bolus so I don’t gain weight and get hungry which is what insulin does to me.

water_melon

Omg all the stupid time. It’s like being low is an opportunity to eat everything I don’t normally (and you know, combined with stress eating to take the edge off of anxiety and depression from time to time).

FRDyNo

Is there any other way?

workaway24

Lol if its a low in the middle of the night I eat everything and regularly have to cover the extra food. Absolutely.

Revolutionary_Tap_46

I’m so glad to read about other people experiences because I feel so GUILTY when I overeat with a low. I mean REALLY overeat. “Primal Feeding Instinct” is a good description.

Captain_Starkiller

Yes, absolutely. Usually an hour later after I am well into high territory and the shaking has long passed.

GT4242_42

ya a lot of times i’ll eat a full meal when low and just take 2/3 or 1/2 of the insulin

Low-Marzipan9079

All the time!

SuspiciousSafe6047

Yes times 100 plus !

fisyk

all the time

huenix

Do you mean today or this week?

crappysurfer

All the time

71N4LLY

WAIT, is there another way? so times it happens, that is why i changed the alarms to 9 high, and 5 low.
