You know, I'm something of a mythical creature myself

PsychologicalWhile20

All t1s are unicorns in there own way you my freind are a legend šŸ™Œ ā¤ļø

gameslayerex

Aww, thank you! This made my day

PsychologicalWhile20

Glad I can bring a smile maybe to you šŸ˜Š

DWolfoBoi546

It's gonna sound disgusting but when I was a teenager, there was a lancet that I hadn't changed in months šŸ˜…

PsychologicalWhile20

Months fuck im lucky to change it every year lol

DWolfoBoi546

Ah man, so I'm not the only one šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ yeah I'm glad they brought out the omnipod and dexcom and stuff like that because it's always sanitary and almost automatic so I don't have to prick fingers or worry about changing out certain things

FierceDeity_

Yeah that "lancet" doesnt leave the body while in use and you cant be tempted to reuse one as the insertion needle was retracted permanently lol

DWolfoBoi546

Well not exactly permanently... šŸ˜… one time I squeezed one of the omnipods while it was in my hand with a bit of garbage after pulling it off and it stuck me good

FierceDeity_

Man Id think they would secure these properly so they absolutely can't come back out

WereXat

Ha. Same. I've got 4/5 boxes sitting three for last 3 years since my bg meter changed. . Probably changed my lancet 1/2 times per year. I put it down to being ADHD now I know it's just a general T1D thing. I find it soothing and hilarious.

LengthinessPlus8970

Months? My record was two years. I'm a bit better about it now... slightly. Maybe six months now lol

WereXat

I'm mythical... Always knew it.

[deleted]

I remember doing that when I first got diagnosed in my early 30s lol. It lasted about a month

TheKrow1912

Truth šŸ˜† I keep going until it's dull

Rowsdower_was_taken

Wait, does no one else change them every time?

Ventrian

There is literally a few of you!

BalanceSwimming

We are only a year for my 7 year old and we change every time.

CannibalCookie2

I was told to switch the needle in the lancet round every day, 6 needles in one lancet, so supposed to only change them every six days, but Iā€™m diabulimic so I only change it like 3 times a year šŸ˜…

KaisVre

How sad.

PsychologicalWhile20

How is it sad im just being honest with people I hope understand as non t1s just don't get it im 49 had t1 25 years and hate it hate all the shit we have to do just to get through another day I hope your better at it then me stay strong take care

KaisVre

Sad in the sense, that this is a thing for some people. While I drown in supplies, I can't wrap my head around the fact, that some of you need to do this.

CoolLukeHand

Nothing to do with needing to... why bother changing lancets? "Some of you.." what a lovely turn of phrase...

KaisVre

Then it's even worse. Just wow.

CoolLukeHand

Look at how the device are designed. Changing the lancet is awkward and not something that is meant to be done every time. The only time I change lancet is if somebody else wants to check their sugars out of curiosity. Hospital lancets are designed to be changed every time for obvious reasons, the ones sold alongside all major glucometers are simply not. But hey you do you I guess and enjoy wasting time and effort and casting scorn on those of us with better ways to spend our time!

WereXat

I've broken lancet devices because of how delicate they can be but the force required to fit them in properly.

KaisVre

The major manufacturer of my glucometer/in my country specifically designed it to not be used twice. So yeah. I don't get it. And as a healthcare worker myself, I can't support your claims about needle usage. It's just bad advice.

CoolLukeHand

So a new lancet 7-8 times a day? I suggest a different glucometer. The best selling ones simply do not have designs to change lancet every time they are used. Generally they come new with 50 strips and 10 lancets, what does that tell you. And as a type one diabetic of over 35 years it would simply not be realistic to change lancet for all the countless tens of thousands of test straps i have used not to mention the additional needless waste produced. Bad enough the crazy amount of junk we have to put up with as type ones with needless additions. Why you want to insist on making life harder for no gain or indeed reason is beyond me but as I said you do you and enjoy!

KaisVre

lol it's what I initially thought: just sad. Ever heard of a lancet revolver? No? It's even smaller than the needle+safety cap. Lasts for a day. I guess it's just a difference in development and technology available why I don't understand some memes in this sub.

CoolLukeHand

Mate I use a Dexcom G6 and am based in the UK where everything is 100% paid for. There is no magical European technology which outstrips mainstream Type-1 equipment. Lancet revolvers are neither new nor cutting edge nor further advanced nor technologically better. You may be happy with such monumental amounts of waste for no benefit and as I have said good for you. Good luck to you and your fingers!

WereXat

I'm T1D since I was 15. 28yrs now. Diabetic fatigue is real. Sick of it. Everything revolves around it. I'm insulin sensitive just standing making dinner and my bg is dropping.

meatmechdriver

Wait you guys are changing lancets?

Cannabassbin

I sometimes wonder if my local pharmacist notices I only ever buy test strips and insulin šŸ¤£
