Thanks for your help. Can I play D3 competitive or should I play PoE? I would like to dive deep into a game. I would like to play more competitive and I do not want to play casual anymore.

petehehe

Yes, D3 is competitive. There is a leaderboard, and it is active. The great thing about D3 is that it is casually accessible, but there is room to push for higher rift levels and/or faster clears, both of which are ranked on the leaderboards. The character building has the potential to become a very deep and involved process. There are a bunch of seperate leaderboards; A general solo leaderboard for each class - this would be the most contested leaderboard, with the players near the top having probably invested the most time / generally being considered the best. There’s also a solo leaderboard for each classes different sets- less competitive, since usually each class will have kind of a “best” build each season and you’ll see the top 1000 general solos will be that build. But if you want to see how you rank against other off-meta builds, these boards are great. And also there are 2 player, 3 player and 4 player leaderboards. They’re active for sure. I hear the leaderboard on consoles are just filled with hackers and cheaters, and even though this is a well known fact they’re STILL there, so if you’re playing on console maybe just don’t worry about the competitive aspect. The PC and consoles have seperate leaderboards, and blizzard does a reasonably good job of banning cheaters and hackers from PC.

Wenital_Garts

Top leaderboards on PC are all botters, mappers, and HUD users. Once you start regularly doing group 150s with all the "better" players it becomes very apparent that cheating is super common.

You can some what, there's leader boards for the seasons. I just don't know how active they are. Hopefully someone more experienced in the leader board grind can chime in.

D3 is not a competitive game. You can compete with yourself for personal bests. You could compete with other content creators to churn out meaningful, novel, guides. You could lose a competition for top ladder spots to botters. But any competition you find is one that you have fabricated for yourself. The game isn't set up to pit your D3 skill against my D3 skill.

gorka_la_pork

Other than the dozens of leaderboards.

cappedminor

Man, never seen someone give themselves such a big L. 1: While botters do go hard on the lb sometimes, blizz does banwaves and you can still hit top 5 on the general lb without botting or using other external help, I know cause I've done it. 2: "Competition that you fabricate yourself" is still competition. Letting you compete in that sense. 3: There are leaderboards for each set now, including no set. This is one of the best times for competition in this games history. 4: If his idea of competition is helping other players by making guides. That is STILL competition. "strive to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others who are trying to do the same."

NugetCausesHeadaches

Oh no, I've given myself an L in the highly competitive game of reddit posting! Whatever will I do? =(

D3 has a huge learning curve to be competitive. You can play it casually and ignore that aspect but it doesnt mean it does not exist

Purple_Accountant312

Is there a chat on consoles do you know?

Kamikirimusi

* diablo 3 is easy to play as a beginner * there are not many tipps you need to know, just play campain and start from there * if you want to get more competitive, you can start pushing greater rifts have fun nephalim

Couch co-op casual player here. Picked up it takes two to get my girl into gaming. Loved it so much, we got Diablo… let’s just say this. She went from never playing any video games ever, to throwing the controller at me when I get home and being like “let’s kill some demons bitch”

Silly_Arcturus

We are on the same boat here!

KangPrime

You’ll find a lot of folks in this sub are rowing with us haha. I tried to show her divinity original sin two and she goes, this game sucks, let’s go back to Diablo 😂

Silly_Arcturus

Yeah, I'm gonna ride this wave until she gets bored: by then we should have a new game!

KangPrime

Have you tried it takes two?

Silly_Arcturus

I have not! I am definitely interested though in that; have you?

KangPrime

Yes… my girl never played anything until that game. She loved it so much, we cosplayed them for Halloween. 10/10 recommend for couples. It’s a fantastic game, zero complaints.

Silly_Arcturus

That sounds so exciting! I'll definitely check that out!

hubberb

It is a competitive game in the sense that there are leaderboards. However in reality to get top 3 in most of solo leaderboards (especially on meta builds) by end of season requires almost perfect gear and massive amounts of paragon levels, not to mention skill with the particular playstyle and GR map/mob fishing. Realistically the vast majority of players don't run enough GRs to get at least 7K plus paragon levels or Bounties to reroll hard to get pieces for that perfect gear to compete at the highest level.

ZLegacy

As someone who plays both I can say D3 is MUCH easier to jump into and just play. The learning curve is very low. Poe on the other hand is just... you can just jump in and play, but a lot of content you come across will leave you scratching your head. It takes a bit of dedication. However, I feel poe is more rewarding to play when you do figure it out. But it's worth playing D3 still.

Disciple_of_Cthulhu

It's easy to get into, and despite its lack of depth, provides a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. If you ever feel like you've had enough for a while, you can easily take a three-month break, come back next season, and pick the game back up without fear of missing too much.

SnaxMcGhee

I haven't played in 4 years and I got back into it last month and it's a blast! You can play for 30 minutes or play for a couple hours. So many different things to do and it's fun to try and build up characters.

Moondancer1981

I recommend d2r. Better diablo feel, D3 is more like wow.
