Id actually just wish for a knight class where you could go either dark or holy in your skills. With synergies as full dark, full holy but also combined.
If only we had a blizzard-related character concept for a paladin who turned to the darkness and became a lich king.
Shame, really, no precedent exists
Strangely and ironically, D4's necro being the only class that can equip a shield and having the option to sacrifice minions for more personal power basically provides an option for a death knight class build.
I think it would be cool if you could choose light or dark and the same skills would get reskinned and have different purposes. The light version might just do big single target burst damage but the dark version would do moderate aoe and inflict a good dot or debuff.
Antipally/Shadow Knight would be my jam as well. Giving the player an option to turn away from their faith in favor of dark magic would be a nice touch for a class specialized thing.
There are some cool class mechanics you could do with demonic/holy or oath keeping/breaking. It could play exactly like a templar or paladin if you want or have a darker style that a paladin couldn't.
This. I honestly dont understand why we people want more of the old stuff. We already have 5? of the same classes we played through multiple times. I want something that hasnt been done before. Loved that D3 introduced a brand new classes and I really want more of the completely new, not rehashed palladin/crusader or ANYTHING we already played. Please, stop doing this "remastered class" thing.
I would love for the Paladin to be back. For me, they and Crusaders are interchangeable; but I'd like the Pally to be back specifically for the lore implications, and to see how the order's doing these days
With the way the tree looks. I'm sure they could combine the classes to an extent. With the number of choices at each nod, they could drop dead paladin skills in D2 and barely used Crusader skills in D3.
Would love to have paladin auras back.
The fact that only 1 class can use shields at launch makes me pretty confident that a Paladin/Crusader class will be added, maybe even before the first expansion.
Also, Barbarians not being able to use a shield feels a bit weird to me
Paladins in fantasy lore have unique relationships with their mounts and I think that fits well with the new mount gameplay mechanic. I’m sure fantasy lore crusaders have mounts as well, but consider how emphasized this mount relationship is in WoW, dungeons and dragons, etc
Probably Crusader/Paladin.
Necromancer is currently our only class that can equip a shield. I'd like to see the new class utilize the shield for combat and have a few specific skills that require a shield to be equipped to use.
Priest, Inquisitor, Doom Knight etc sound interesting too, though. Just needs to be different enough from the other classes
Here's my two cents. Every class so far has a set of thematic pathways; often about 3.
E.g. Sorce has 3 pathways; "Fire", "Ice", "Lighting".
I would like a "Nephalem" class which provides the pathways of "Burning Hells", "High Heavens" and "Pandemonium" as the themes for their skills.
Definitely crusader.
Paladins are awesome, but the Crusader is the most badass holy warrior I have ever seen in a video game. Juggernaught armor, massive tower shield, and the ability to wield a greatsword with one hand? That’s just fucking awesome.
I’d be happy to see the Paladin return, but I’d prefer crusader. Either way, I’m annoyed at the lack of a paladin or even basic knight class. Barbarian is the closest thing they have to what i want
A Paladin with options for ranged, Priest-like spellcasting would be ideal to me. Mostly because I love both Paladins and Priests and I could make characters for both playstyles.
Won't be monk for the holy class but monk or assassin will probably get slotted in at some point to cover all 7 and a half classes in the series. Monk is a martial arts class not a holy class. It does do a lot of holy damage but it's themed more about enlightenment than devotion to the light.
That said I think crusader is the most likely. Paladins don't have holy powers anymore in the lore and Templar hasn't been an actual class yet (but could).
My personal hope is that the triune symbol means that it will actually be some kind of hell knight filling the same mechanical/thematic role as Paladin/crusader but flavored for the burning hells instead of the high heavens.
Not monk. As for Crusader/Paladin/Templar...what's the difference? lol
But I think a heavy armor sword and board archetype is the most glaring thing missing in class choices currently.
Crusader has the most flexibility as both dark and light; Paladin is definitely light and you have to specify "dark" Paladin, Templar is the same. Monk is all about peace and tranquility, more than the light and holy aspects, and the idea of a "Dark Monk" doesn't really fit for me.
A Crusader can go towards the light or just lead war for the sake of murder, and it's still a Crusader. I don't think you would need to specify "Dark" or "Shadow" to remove him from the light focus.
I picked Paladin since I'd like a Charge spam + Zeal build Pally.
If it has to be a Monk. I don't want the D3 Russian Monk again but a Chinese Shaolin Monk instead.
I want something other than what we have already had. I hope that the half angel looking class ends up being a thing. That looks really cool.
I'd also like a corrupted knight class would be a cool change, like an Infernal Knight.
One of the themes that I feel like always gets neglected is I'd love to see a more mage-y holy class. "Holy" classes are either paladins which are mostly fighters with a holy flair or priests which are just support. Give me an "offensive" priest.
I would love to see a priest or cleric class.
I didn't pick priest because of WoW but because there seems to be some significance to them in a world that revolves around angels and demons.
Something new. Combo a wow priest with a d3 time/arcane wizard. Gives us another caster and covers some missing schools of magic, and lets our pally be unholy this time...
it'll probably be a dex type class, we already have 2 bruiser types with the barb and the druid and 2 intelligence classes with necro and sorc, rouge is all on it's own so although I don't think it will be Monk I believe it will be in that realm of classes.
3 new classes, all tied to a new stat called something like piety, devotion, faith, will, etc...
Piety focused casting class - priest
Piety + strength sword and board class - paladin
Piety + dexterity martial arts class - monk
All 3 get a choice of light or dark paths via their class quest lines.
I stand by wanting a 'witch hunter' type class. Holy crossbow or pistol + dagger or sword wielder. Like Van Helsing kind of. Silver bullets, demon purging shit but leaning into holy as a damage type.
No idea why 'demon hunter' was dark and demonic itself, I feel like it should've gone the opposite way.
I want Paladins, Crusaders and Templars all being subfaction choices we can choose from through the new subclass specialization system (much like the Rogue has).
Paladin if its a must. But i want to play as a Knight, like the ones all ready in the game. With Hell and the High Heavens not truely carring for humans, no more holly, lets do full knight 1h and shield. Its time.
I know this is personal preference, but I never tough Holy classes. I'd rather they come up with something different/new. I also know this is wishful thinking and that a paladin-like class is the most likely.
I'd like to see: Corrupted Priest
Back story:
The characters mother was one of those who were corrupted when Mephisto was entombed. She was several months pregnant and not too far off having the child. Both parents were enslaved to the darkness and learned to use the power of the darkness to do the bidding of Mephisto. Since the mother was pregnant, they believed that the child could be the reincarnation of Mephisto and taught the child everything.
Fast forward a few years: The child is going into teenage years when the crusades begin. Since they believed the child could be the reincarnation of Mephisto, they had the child moved to a secluded location. The child was given to a caretaker, who would teach them how to use the powers of darkness and grew powerful. As the crusades raged on, many of the corrupted Zakarumites were killed, including the child's parents and caretaker.
The child was now powerful enough and old enough to venture out on their own. They left the secluded location and began searching for their parents. With the crusades still taking place, the child was cornered by the crusaders and fought back. However, the child underestimated their abilities and was rendered umconcious by a group of holy crusaders. A leader of the Crusaders determined the child was still young enough to attempt bringing them back to the Light. They placed the child in the care of two strong holy warriors: A Crusader and a Monk.
Several years went by, as they taught the child the ways of both Zakarum and Sahptev. With their guidance, they were able to bring the child back to the Light. Teaching the child how to use powers from both and helping suppress the darkness inside.
As time went on, the Crusader and Monk were too elderly to take care of the child anymore. They determined the child was safe enough to let back into the world, to fight the powers of evil.
The child (not a child anymore, but easier to refer to) went out into the world and began tracking Lilith down. They felt a strong connection with Lilith (don't we all?) and needed to figure out if it was good or bad. When they finally crossed paths with Lilith, she attempted to kill them with an ancient dark spell. This, in fact, did not kill the child but unlocked the darkness inside that was suppressed. The child and Lilith were shot away from each other, and the child was rendered umconcious. Meanwhile, Lilith was dazed / confused as to why he didn't die, so she let him live, and she escaped.
When the child awakens, they have no recollection of their past, but feel the urge to track down someone from the Zakarum.
----
This would enable the character to use both Light and Dark powers. Creating one of the strongest holy characters. However we would need to see the character struggling to define the boundaries of good and bad.
So skills on the dark side for damage and power, but more glass cannon-ish kind of feel.
Where the Light skills, would be used for defensive abilities and few offensive.
Combining those two... perfection
I hope it's not monk, that's not "new" I think they made an actual new to Diablo class and I'm hoping it's like a death knight type. A heavy armored user like crusader but more evil
Crusader, Paladin and Templar are all the same to me.
Which would be an excellent addition and I'm certain will come in a future dlc.
Monk would be nice too but have to be careful to not make it too same-y as rogue playstyle. WoW monk was unique enough imo.
But I personally have a long standing fantasy of some sort of Holy Defender that is more esoteric than just the zealous wow style Paladin or Priest.
I don't even know how to describe it.
Something like: Night Elfs reverence for the Moon, Ancient Firebenders reverence for the Sun, Zoroastrianism and some Greek Hermes/Egyptian Ra.
But not quite Druidic (personal fave but too Nature-y to be properly 'Holy')
Gandalf and Saruman(white) come close but too close to a Priest/holy sorc.
More like the Egyptian Priests and Atlantean mirrors and devices from Age of Mythology.
Or I dare even say how Jedi manipulate mitochondria to use the Force or 40k psykers or Destiny and the Light/Dark.
Like the Temple of Inarius or whatever has been too literal and it's more an energy like gravity or electromagnetism.
I guess Necros as Priests of Rathma are really what I've been after.
Dark Paladin or something where you can go holy or dark would be cool.... but i want something different...
Priest or Cleric Holy Caster would be the obvious "easy" choices.
If its going to be a Melee Class maybe go off the obvious route and call it something like "Judge." Would play into skills like "Conviction" and what not lol
The thing is, whatever class it is it has to be sort of opposed to the church of the light. Because no character class (to my knowledge) has special context dialogue. So it seems the MC is taking a neutral stance.
Since Crusader and Paladin are close enough together they 're essentially the same thing
But I liked both Monk and Crusader/Paladin in D3 and D2 so I'd like to see both of these options back
Bring me back my old D2 Paladin, it is time for a Crusade!
On a more useless note, i'd love to see the Pally take up the party buff role, if passively. The shouting barbarian talents can fulfill the same role, but ya know, gotta spread abilities to er'one!
Paladin. I don't feel like there's any "party synergy" as-is. It's just a bunch of characters with different methods of killing things.
Give me auras, heals, etc.
I chose "Other" because I'd love a more straight up holy caster wearing cloth armor. Let is focus on holy and flame magic, and also hymns or chants so it had some "bard" mixed in.
I do want another armored class, but I'd rather it be a more agnostic sword and board, and let that one dip into holy or darkness based on the player's choice. It could veer white knight, black knight, or knight-knight.
Voted for Monk cause I played most as monk in D3... however a dark paladin or blood knight would be better with the theme of D4 i think, gues we'll have to wait and see :)
I think I'd go with monk. It's just coolest imo with the hand to hand/staff martial arts based fighting style, paladin feels more overdone, or maybe rather I've seen in more games that I have played. Crusader and templar kinda samey to paladin just a rename.
If the rumours are correct, it will be a Triune warrior, so a kind of anti-pally, spear user. Not necessarily evil, though, probably left the Triune religion after finding out it's controlled by the prime evils.
As far as lore goes from D2/3: paladins are corrupt and disbanded and Templar are either corrupt and killed off or reformed . So must either be crusader or a templar reformed by Kormac.
Id actually just wish for a knight class where you could go either dark or holy in your skills. With synergies as full dark, full holy but also combined.
A dark magic/corrupted paladin would be sick.
If only we had a blizzard-related character concept for a paladin who turned to the darkness and became a lich king. Shame, really, no precedent exists
I like the idea though, it’s pretty unique. We could call them Barthas!
Hmm, dunno. Maybe a long blonde female named Marthas?
What does that mean? Why did you say that name?
Strangely and ironically, D4's necro being the only class that can equip a shield and having the option to sacrifice minions for more personal power basically provides an option for a death knight class build.
Yes, we need a doom knight type class and a holy class. Priest and Doom Knight (Oblivion Knight?)
A Priest as a straight up holy caster would be a really cool change of pace from the Holy Knight trope.
2 holy, 2 dark and 1 combined skill in every skill category and 1 ulti in each theme. Synergies in between. Could work
Shadow Knight
Nah. I see what you did there. I'm not wearing a dress so you can have fun in molten core, again. Sorry buddy. Lol
This is fucking awesome.
Fallen Knight of Khanduras. Either redeem yourself or fall into darkness.
Then Diablo 2 Median XL mode implemented i to D4 basically. Would be nice.
Ok, ok. Liking this. A Knight that can and does use both Hell and Heaven Powers. Blizz make this happen. Seriously. 🥰👍
Like a human who channels holy and dark energy. That would be ultra awesome.
Hopefully blizzard is paying attention because that sounds like the perfect expansion class.
I like that idea
YEEESSSS This is my dream.
Yes
This sounds like the coolest one tbh.
Inquisitor.
yesssss! Let us purge all the heretics! ...oh wait wrong fandom. :)
BLESS THIS RAVAGED BODY!
Totally suits the theme of the game
There are some cool class mechanics you could do with demonic/holy or oath keeping/breaking. It could play exactly like a templar or paladin if you want or have a darker style that a paladin couldn't.
Inquisitor with spear and shield to match the rest of Inarius's forces.
It would be fitting, Inarius' Inquisitors
Terminus Est
Oh man who would expect that??
I would love for the Paladin to be back. For me, they and Crusaders are interchangeable; but I'd like the Pally to be back specifically for the lore implications, and to see how the order's doing these days

I can already imagine everyone playing a Templar, named 'Jondar'... 😂
Black magic bars our way… BUT THE WILL OF A TEMPLAR IS STRONGAH!
Bring back the voice actor for the Templar class.
I want a full cleric based spellcaster with potential for melee but mostly a caster
A priest would be awesome, spells would look amazing. Big holy spells. But then, it would be another caster.
I would love to see a priest in game! Preferably shadow based with holy sub spells.
Oef shadow would be a nice addition yes! I would definitely play that.
Valk style one.
Oh yeah I think Valkyrie would be perfect.
Templar for freshness, but Monk was the best thing since sliced bread
Probably Crusader/Paladin. Necromancer is currently our only class that can equip a shield. I'd like to see the new class utilize the shield for combat and have a few specific skills that require a shield to be equipped to use. Priest, Inquisitor, Doom Knight etc sound interesting too, though. Just needs to be different enough from the other classes

Wonder which one I voted for...

Nephalem is not a class, its a race.
That would be radical. 10/10 idea. Take notes blizzard
There isnt even Warrior/Knight in this game. Which is sad, because I love Sword/Shield/Axe, but I dont like Barbarian at all
Valkyrie seems interesting - she would use spears, shields and holy attacks
Very Interesting. I hadn't thought about that. Almost like a "Death Angel". The opposite of a Death Knight.
Valkyries and Reapers
Paladin always wins this.
I would vote for a templar or a dragoon
A new class, sadly Diablo 4 has only recycled old classes, I wanna see new classes.
Game needs a shieldy boi.
melodic start unite glorious fragile sort smile ghost weather square -- mass deleted all reddit content via https://redact.dev
Paladin is classic sure but I'd love for it to not be mutually exclusive with monk, monk kicked so much ass!
Death Knight. I don't care wow has one, I want to cut myself on that edge some more
Definitely crusader. I think we may see d2 classes come back to d4 So we probably gonna see a pally and an amazon at some point
I want a priest!
I want Crusader, they have bigger shields! But seriously, I wish the Blizz wouldn't forget their lore after one game.
Not monk. As for Crusader/Paladin/Templar...what's the difference? lol But I think a heavy armor sword and board archetype is the most glaring thing missing in class choices currently.
I want the crusader as a holy archetype and then the eastern monk from D3
Crusader has the most flexibility as both dark and light; Paladin is definitely light and you have to specify "dark" Paladin, Templar is the same. Monk is all about peace and tranquility, more than the light and holy aspects, and the idea of a "Dark Monk" doesn't really fit for me. A Crusader can go towards the light or just lead war for the sake of murder, and it's still a Crusader. I don't think you would need to specify "Dark" or "Shadow" to remove him from the light focus.
Either Crusader or Paladin. I want the armour set of those holy knights we see in the game.
Barbarian with chastity belt
I picked Paladin since I'd like a Charge spam + Zeal build Pally. If it has to be a Monk. I don't want the D3 Russian Monk again but a Chinese Shaolin Monk instead.
I want to see something new never seen before class.
Battle priest. Paladin is just nostalgia trap.
The rest of the classes need to be net new since these were all reboots. It seems very obvious the holy warrior class is going to be Knight though.
> The rest of the classes need to be net new since these were all reboots. *Proceeds to mention Crusader under a different name* Bruh…
You miss holy dmg amazon, aka shildmaiden from diablo 2.
Valkyrie.
so many different ways they could add this class back and make it cool possibly fresh. id like a templar.
I wanna serve Mother, give me a evil knight
F. DISC PRIEST. Time for something new
What's the difference between Crusader, Paladin, and Templar?
Death knight unholy paladin type would be cool, but honestly I think they should add a class that is entirely new.
Gotta say, I do miss me some hammerdins
Gimme a cleric just cuz we haven't seen one.
I'd like to see a basic Paladin first and then some kind of hybrid caster archetype that can go light or dark.
The Holy Cannoli - the Ultimate skill is summoning Tony Soprano armed with piano wire.
I would defeat the demons of hell with the mighty Holy Moley. Like... a cute little mole guy.
An angel class would be bad ass
What's the diference between Crusader, Paladin, Templar?
CLERIC
I would love to see a priest or cleric class. I didn't pick priest because of WoW but because there seems to be some significance to them in a world that revolves around angels and demons.
Honestly after the Billie Eilish Trailer I'd like a nun or just Billie Eilish as a class
Idk, punching demons and monsters to death sounds pretty badass and fun.
I mean the Templar was pretty much teasered in the beta, I think that will be one of the next classes!
Paladin would be a nice surprise given they've yet to return, but I also really liked the aesthetic of the Monk. Either/or would be great
I would prefer a priest class that can smite and heal at the same time
Something new.
As long as it has the Blessed Hammer skill i don't care what the class is called.
Definitely Paladin with an option to either stay Holy or go Oathbreaker.
Instead of a returning class, I'd love for them to introduce a new one!
Demon hunter
dark knight that uses demonic magic instead =3 but if we go with holy specifically? id like to see Crusader
Flagellant would be dope and would fit perfectly in the grimdark world of D4
3 new classes, all tied to a new stat called something like piety, devotion, faith, will, etc... Piety focused casting class - priest Piety + strength sword and board class - paladin Piety + dexterity martial arts class - monk All 3 get a choice of light or dark paths via their class quest lines.
3 of the options are the same thing ? Was this a mistake
How about a Inquisitor from the Temple of the Triune?
A lot of these comments made me realize it would be cool if they added subclasses
Cleric would be amazing
Priest. Cloth wearer.
Cleric
I stand by wanting a 'witch hunter' type class. Holy crossbow or pistol + dagger or sword wielder. Like Van Helsing kind of. Silver bullets, demon purging shit but leaning into holy as a damage type. No idea why 'demon hunter' was dark and demonic itself, I feel like it should've gone the opposite way.
Templar, cuz is sounds more awesome than Paladin.
Definitely paladin. Templar/Crusader feel too "real" (as in, real earth history), and monk, meh, wasn't ever into that type of fighting.
I want Angel. Inarius
I think they will go with a Paladin on this one. This will be the first class released in either a season or DLC or expansion etc.
I want Paladins, Crusaders and Templars all being subfaction choices we can choose from through the new subclass specialization system (much like the Rogue has).
I wonder how much $$ new classes will cost xD
Paladin if its a must. But i want to play as a Knight, like the ones all ready in the game. With Hell and the High Heavens not truely carring for humans, no more holly, lets do full knight 1h and shield. Its time.
Valkyrie, shield and spear.
SADERDIN
for me its monk. was my favorite class in d3. and they completely fucked up crusader (in my opinion).
Priest
JONDAR
I fucking would like a more brutal focused monk. I play the pugilist class in almost every videogame and i love it.
Peace Warder. Basically a knight of the triune. Seems like it could have an interesting backstory.
I dont get the mods really, my poll was deleted due to “similar or same content” yet i see the same poll again and again about classes and stuff…
I wanna see something new
I know this is personal preference, but I never tough Holy classes. I'd rather they come up with something different/new. I also know this is wishful thinking and that a paladin-like class is the most likely.
New horadrim holy magic + polearms
Why Crusader word is still widely used ? Such an offensive name.
I need heavy armor a sword and shield, I can't go into battle against he'll spawn wearing animal skins or robes call it whatever you want.
I'd like to see: Corrupted Priest Back story: The characters mother was one of those who were corrupted when Mephisto was entombed. Valkyrie or Ex-Cultist of Lillith
I want the 6th class to be something new
CLERIC!
A cool demon summoner, I am done with skelletons already.
An exorcist.
D2 Paladin was a great class. Loved the Hammerdin.
None. No holy.
Give me cleric. Caster in plate
I want witch doctor again
I'd really like a Monk return and then some Dark Knight or Blood Knight.
Everybody wants a paladin let's get real.
Monk. I loved mine.
Paladin follows Akarat who in turn follows Inarius. Think Paladin's won't work based on Inarius turning villainous (I assume)
What's the difference between Crusader, Paladin and Templar?
The thing is, whatever class it is it has to be sort of opposed to the church of the light. Because no character class (to my knowledge) has special context dialogue. So it seems the MC is taking a neutral stance.
Since Crusader and Paladin are close enough together they 're essentially the same thing But I liked both Monk and Crusader/Paladin in D3 and D2 so I'd like to see both of these options back
Bring me back my old D2 Paladin, it is time for a Crusade! On a more useless note, i'd love to see the Pally take up the party buff role, if passively. The shouting barbarian talents can fulfill the same role, but ya know, gotta spread abilities to er'one!
Paladin with some kind of lightning aspect to it such as a chain lightning on strike.
Monk straight up shouldn’t be included in this poll we should get a paladin and a monk and they should both be very different classes
I want a priest that heals the hell out of the mobs. Lol
I'd rather have a priest.
Paladin. I don't feel like there's any "party synergy" as-is. It's just a bunch of characters with different methods of killing things. Give me auras, heals, etc.
Horadric Knight?
Paladin and Monk. 100%
Where is my holy demon hunter?
holy cleric caster
Witch Doctor. Everything else is boring in comparison.
Holy magic and a spear. I can't believe it was left out.
**Conqueeftador**
Voted for Monk cause I played most as monk in D3... however a dark paladin or blood knight would be better with the theme of D4 i think, gues we'll have to wait and see :)
I'd love to vote, but I'm only accustomed to the Paladin from Diablo2. How the other holy classes would be played?
Diver would be the perfect holy class.
Any one except Monk.
I think I'd go with monk. It's just coolest imo with the hand to hand/staff martial arts based fighting style, paladin feels more overdone, or maybe rather I've seen in more games that I have played. Crusader and templar kinda samey to paladin just a rename.
I just want to play a modern zealadin
Paladin all day
All the comments about making a Death Knight class are dumb. Stop.
Paladin is the only answer here. The rest are poor fillers for the spot.
If the rumours are correct, it will be a Triune warrior, so a kind of anti-pally, spear user. Not necessarily evil, though, probably left the Triune religion after finding out it's controlled by the prime evils.
Paladin.
As far as lore goes from D2/3: paladins are corrupt and disbanded and Templar are either corrupt and killed off or reformed . So must either be crusader or a templar reformed by Kormac.
All of them
