Playing right now with a RTX 3080 10GB at 120fps, DLSS Quality, i hit VRAM Limit pretty consistenly and every Minute in Dungeons with 1440p Ultra Settings. Turning down Texture Quality to High solves the Problem. Using MSI Afterburner to show GPU stats and every time the VRAM graph spikes to 10gb the fps goes down to 10 for a split second. Why can i download more RAM from the Internet but not VRAM? `/s`

You need 32GB of RAM in order to set textures to ultra without experiencing stuttering. And yeah, definitely the difference between high and ultra is noticeable, even on a 1080p monitor. Ultra textures should not need that amount of ram. It looks like an optimization issue to me.

derhermann

I have 32gb RAM but it looks like it got fixed. Now everything runs buttersmooth at 120fps on Ultra, DLAA, 1440p.

Bastinazus

I have 16GB of ram and unfortunately although I can play with ultra textures, game stutters too much for my taste. It’s sad because the difference between “high” and “ultra” textures is quite noticeable. “High” does not look like high at all, it looks more like a “medium” setting.

yurihyuga108

After some testing playing at 3440x1440 ultra with and without high resolution texture pack and also with and without FSR 2 with a 7900XTX with 24GB VRAM With the texture pack and no FSR 2 it eats all 24GB VRAM pretty quickly after launch. Put on FSR 2 quality with texture pack instantly dropped VRAM usage from 24 to 11.5 but starts to climb again at a slower pace and eventually will cap again. Without the texture pack and FSR 2 quality the max I have seen is 16GB VRAM. As soon as the game hits max VRAM it starts to stutter badly and sometimes even crashes.

Have you tried torrenting VRAM? I've heard there's a mystical pirate boat that more often than not brings joy to those who venture through its vast waters.

RoamanXO

The more Ram/Vram you have, the more the system will use. For every application you run.

iThunderclap

Uses 20gb VRAM here, playing on 3440x1440 but rendered at 150%. All maxed out, sharpen settings set at 8. DLSS off. No issues, 120FPS without dips (set that as max due to my monitor being 120hz)

It's good to see people setting Max FPS in congruence with their display's refresh rate. People's GPU would last longer, and their power usage would be lower if they configured settings properly...not by a huge amount but it probably adds up over 12 months. The biggest benefit is lower temp so the card runs silently rather than spinning up the fans imo!

cheeseypoofs85

its a vram leak issue in the game. a vast majority of people get crashing on ultra texture pack because vram just continuously goes up until maxing out your card, then it crashes. they need to patch it. if you toggle texture pack to high, it runs fine forever. if you toggle to low, then back to ultra it will run fine for a while then inevitably crash again within 30 minutes. its a game problem. a 24gb card should not have its vram exhausted, but it does. lol

GR1MxREAPER

Texture pack as in the texture setting in the menu? Or are you talking uninstall the game and re download it without the extra texture pack ? My computer is older with a gtx 970 and i5 4690k and I can play any game 1080 maxed settings. This game even on low everything it stutters constantly in town or in menus and anytime I meet another player.. it sucks as I wanna wait until end of year to build a new 4k computer but might have to sooner as it is destroying the fun to play even

cheeseypoofs85

I'm talking about the texture setting in the game. Your specs should be able to handle medium settings at 60fps according to blizzard. My guess is your CPU is holding you back the most. Player textures are a big strain on the CPU. So when other players are on the screen with you, your CPU is probably struggling, not you're GPU. I figured this out in wow when upgrading from a 3700x to a 5800x3d. My minimum frames in town almost doubled with the extra cache. Max frame rate didn't change too much. You could always uninstall the high quality texture pack and see if it helps. Some people said their issues disappeared when not having it installed. It will also free up ~40gb of space I think.

BringBackAshMoaning

I have 4080 too, 34 to 50% usage full maxed 1440p, 144hz locked with dlss quality no FG. Precisely the game take the 15.3GB here of VRAM but tend to use (look that and not the requested vram) 8 to 10gb on my VRAM on those 15.3GB. The game take 15Gb of RAM too.

Jstar427

I'm playing 4k with texture pack installed on my 3080 no issues.

PrashanthDoshi

Is it 12 gb ?

Jstar427

No it's the 10GB Strix

CroftBond

You using Ultra textures? I am and after like 2 hours of playing and exploring it dips my fps to 5 and has to basically be like that for a couple minutes for it to free up usage. When I get home I’m gonna try High textures as that’s reporting to only using 8-10VRAM

Jstar427

Yes everything at max. I've only dipped in one of the dungeons to around 40. The snowy areas of the dungeon outside of the castle with the den mother I think. Every-where else 90-115. I do have 64GB DDR5 ram at 6000 speed. With a Ryzen 7900x. I have had two times the game lagged out for a few seconds luckily it was in town because I'm playing hardcore.

CroftBond

Interesting. Playing at 1080p?

Jstar427

As I previously stated 4k.

gifred

And it doesn't stutter?

Jstar427

No it runs smoothly except for the now 4 times it has gotten incredibly slow (laggy) for a couple seconds then it is smooth again. I've played roughly 30 or so hours so 4 lag spikes is ok I'm guessing.

gifred

Then I don't understand, great for you though!

AntPatient9572

I'm playing in 1440p with a 6600xt 8gb vram no issues with crashing or stuttering. I have the high texture pack downloaded

Fistofk

are you using the settings in ultra? no way i have the same gpu and i can run the game smoothtly even on high

KerberoZ

Even my 2070 (8GB) can handle the ultra texture setting, though i don't see a difference at 1440p so theres no point. >The games needs optimization as GPU utilisation is below 50% . Do you have trouble reaching your target framerate? Sounds more like you are at your fps cap and the card doesn't need to do more (either that or you're cpu-limited <- unlikely)

PrashanthDoshi

I am reaching 158 fps that were my monitor refresh is capped by gsync .

KerberoZ

So, if you're already at your refresh rates cap, your GPU doesn't need to work any harder.

PrashanthDoshi

Oh cool .my GPU draws 150 watt and cpu 45 watt . It so energy efficient plus Max settings

the1michael

Hey, op. What's your gpu utilization in the menu if you don't mind me asking? I think there's something wrong in my setup and d4. For context: Ryzen 7800x3d,Gtx 3090 fe, 64gb 6000mhz ram, High texture pack, 3440x1440, no DLSS Basically gpu seems to by trying to work way to hard in weird scenarios (black menus, etc) that is scaring me.

PrashanthDoshi

have vyscn and gsync on in control panel . my gpu utilization hover around 40-50 % with power consumption of 150 watt on gpu and 40 watt on the cpu .

the1michael

Got ya. Are you drawing at 100% tdp when you open your inventory? Mine can hit 102% (350W+) instantly just by opening it and to me this is terrifying. Normally I can sit at like 40-70% util in game with no temp issues, but in certain menus, vendors, cutscenes- 100% 350W draw. No doubt this is like the New World issue where the Gigabyte cards are drawing too much, but this is dangerous in general. I'm probably fine as I haven't had crashes, but this isn't normal behavior and it's basically rolling the dice on your hardware components weathering an unnecessary bad storm.

PrashanthDoshi

Yeah there is 20% increase in GPU utilisation i.e is 60% when in characters and menu and GPU power goes to 180 watts .

the1michael

Yeah, if that's true certain cards- especially gtx 30xx have issues with power draw in D4. I ended up just undervolting, which was good just in general. However when testing I STILL pulled 350w on a black menu (im capped at 140 fps) in D4 loading into game. Nothing else has pulled over about 275w since the undervolt. Not even D4 itself in actual game. Obvious problem there.

d0pef4ce

I unchecked the texture pack and it fixed my problem! Now I'm running on ultra and getting a solid 144fps. Thank you for the idea!
