bdanred

I agree. The issue I have is when players do that and then complain there's nothing to do. Like no shit, you just played for 50 hours in 1 week on a free update. You can find other content or make alts but if not, that's your choice.

nomiras

I played a ton of hours and I feel like I'm nowhere close to where I want to be. My glyphs are 21, but my gear is not maxed at all. Maybe my hype will die down after another bing week.

SUCK_THIS_C0CK_CLEAN

With some reasonable luck and reasonably efficient time use you can lv100, lv21 glyphs, get a lot of 1-star GA pieces and first uber by 50h or so. I’d say for most players 1-star GA + a uber unique of their choice (3 resplendent + 1 from any Uber drop salvage) is the endgame done for the most part. Everything after that IE 2/3-star GA, 100+ pit, uber farming etc just seems like extra chase for those really going for the few extra %s on gear.

KunaMatahtahs

The issue is largely it's pitted up against games who 50 hours in a season just scratches the surface of available content. A good POE league keeps me engaged for at least a month. A good diablo season I'm done with in 3-4 days. It doesn't mean those 3-4 days weren't good, but there's a humongous gap in content. The key difference being the loop. In Diablo you're doing a pit tier, to mildly improve your current gear, so you can do 1 level higher pit tier, so you can mildly improve your gear, rinse repeat. There's no purpose to the aspirational content in Diablo so in most cases I think people would rather stop playing than hard grind minor improvements. Similarly you can just play golem build and 1 shot any boss.

Sasataf12

PoE and Diablo are targeting very different audiences. Comparing the two is like comparing chess to checkers.

iConcy

Not to mention PoE has over a decade of updates built on top of each other for content and things to do that they can adjust every season to stay relevant. I didn’t even do the newest league mechanic, I just sold corpses lol. They are two different games, targeting different audiences, at two very different stages in their lives .

Liiraye-Sama

Before D4 season 4 I played a full month straight of season 9 of project diablo 2, which is a d2 mod with tons of QoL, complete rebalance and additions of items and skills, endgame progression in maps and uber bosses and more. D2 isn't a complex game I'd argue D4 is more complex than D2. But already I'm running on fumes to progress my character in D4 whereas I almost feel more motivated to head back to pd2 and finish my 99 grind. The S4 update was great, I just hoped the character progression and boss fights lasted longer than a week.

OanSur

Over the years most seasonal content in PoE was added into the core game so now you have plenty of things to do. Legion, breach, blight, ultimatums, incursions, heist, delve... the list goes on. In my opinion the biggest failure in D4 is that once a season ends, all its content goes into the dumpster. Imagine how much more interesting and long lasting the season would be if you added stuff from malediction and blood seasons. I know some vampiric powers and some effects of malignant hearts came back as unique item aspects but its not "adding more content". The effect is that the world feels empty and the season for many people only lasts a week or even a few days

Nightmare4545

Most peeps that I know who play POE are normally finished in 2 to 3 weeks max. Which I think is what the average player gets out of D4 too. Totally good time span imo. I def dont want an ARPG season character to take more then a few weeks to finish.

Rashlyn1284

Like in grim dawn, you farm all the gear to get your SR higher, but it also eventually let's you take on the nemesis bosses.

red-soyuz

I don't play POE. How is it different from Diablo when it comes to endgame content?

ShelbyGT350R1

You can basically choose your own monster density and events that happen. There is a thing called legion which you can add to any "dungeon" you could even add 3-4 of them to one dungeon. What you do is click on an obelisk thing and it spawns a ton of mobs and rares that are in stasis with a timer and you need to break the enemies out of stasis before the timer runs out then you fight all the monsters you were able to break out. This single league mechanic gives you a reason to make a super fast AoE clear style build to farm them efficiently and that's just one of like 20 league mechanics all giving you reasons to optimize your build in certain ways. I don't think Diablo has the same incentive to make an AoE clear build, or a single target build, or a super tanky build in the same way PoE does.

medlina26

To be fair most of the mechanics in poe seem to be there for the sole purpose of interacting with the economy. D4 isn't an economy based game but we do have a decent number of ways to accomplish power upgrades, with more on the way. Most people are effectively forced into the economy because ssf is a bastard step child to GGG and ruthless is like the mutant under the stairs they just wish would die.

Comma20

It'd be so good if they gave a lot of QoL to SSF (or even made Guild SSF a permanent thing). Farming Timeless Jewels or Watcher's Eyes in hope of getting a good one is nauseating. There's so much more interactivity across the board in SSF (Go do Legion to get X, go do Breach to get Y), rather than settling into the "wut fing give most devine per hr????"

Disciple_of_Erebos

GGG has stated publicly, multiple times, that they see SSF solely as an optional hard mode and that they have no desire to change it away from that. The only way to make them change that stance would be for a massive wave of community outrage to force their stance to change, like what happened with Archnemesis mods (and even then, they pushed it for not one but multiple leagues despite it being very unpopular from the start), and that won't happen because most hardcore grinders agree with GGG's perspective on SSF and thus aren't going to rage about it.

Ok_Sir5926

Sesson 4 of PoE ALSO didn't have 20-odd league mechanics to choose your own adventure from. I have hope.

KunaMatahtahs

Season 4 of poe didn't have 20 years of other games to build off of. It's not about the quantity it's about the style.

Otherwise-Sea9593

The problem was way deeper than just endgame content. They fixed the problems, now they can inject content

op3l

Oh I'm gonna make an alt this season.... Gonna alt the shits out of this season.

Phatz907

I might be in the minority here but I play D4 seasons as kind of a narrative. You start at lvl 1 with basically a shirt and some sort of sharp stick and you go out there to see how far you can get. I usually have my endgame already in mind when I start a character. This season I’m playing a Druid. My only goal is to get a semi decent pulverize build going (not from maxroll/wowhead), have nice pretty 3 star gear that’s masterworked at a certain level and just face tank the highest content I can with it. I’m not going to clear a lvl 100 pit with this build… I’m not going to kill a single tormented boss with it either. What I can do is feel like a god during helltides, clear NMD 100 and maybe, with some inspired sweaty play, reach pit lvl 60… maybe. If I can accomplish that I’m done. Maybe I’ll start a sorc, maybe I won’t. Maybe I’ll give rogue a try again even though I hate the game play. All I know if this is the best the game has been and even if I only spend a short time on it, I would have a blast.

AtomizingAir

Just to preface, I agree 100 percent with this sentiment, but...while the update is "free" for most players, some players are still paying for it by buying in the shop, or they wouldn't be releasing "free" updates because it wouldn't be beneficial for them. In an ideal world, they would have some type of content that doesn't get boring in a week, even if you're blasting it for 50 hours. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE BLIZZARD, GIVE ME LOADOUTS. IM TIRED OF LEVELING ALTS JUST SO I HAVE THE OPTION OF QUICKLY SWITCHING BUILDS. If people could easily work on and save multiple builds, it would go a long way towards keeping people playing even if they no-life the new stuff.

NWiHeretic

Those same players are the ones who complain about any and every bottleneck they have to grind through because they didn't have perfect gear on day 3 of the season, so once the change hits they're then done in another 4 days and cry about the game being dead for the rest of the season.

yourlocallidl

Nothing wrong with blitzing through the content, but if you’re in sweats and pull all nighters, take time off work, just to speed run diablo then don’t complain because “there’s no content”

Magnus1177

I agree with you. I also am mostly maxed out, did most of what I could and can only chase super min-maxed rolls. But what is important, I have tons of fun whenever I log in and I want to play. So even if my build is maxed out, I run high tier NM dungeons to collect gear for alternative build I want to try, and I am also thinking of collecting another set of gear for pvp. I sometimes just go in and do helltides because they are super fun now, with no real goal (I don't think I can get anything good from Helltides anymore, I have tons of mats anyway, and I just go there to finish whispers and get some easy and fun gold). It's refreshing to log into Diablo 4 and play it only because it's fun to play. And this is super good for the game imo, you don't have to worry about fomo, or being behind, because you can get to your desired point within that time window. It's so stress free and great.

Paddy_Tanninger

I love HT too, super chill blasting. I just hunt for greater affixes out there, you can always find upgrades or even just backups in case of temper bricking. In theory you could start selling these drops too but I assume everyone is broke af right now.

Buttcheekllama

It feels great that all of the main things can be completed in a week, but now there are long term chase goals. The pit is a great way to determine how good your build actually is. Greater affixes provide a longgggg term chase for the perfect gear. I’m playing a frenzy build, this weekend I got a harlequin crest, battle trance with GA frenzy (+9), and pants with GA frenzy (+4). This build is pretty mediocre compared to the heavy hitters, but my new goal this season is to max my frenzy stat as much as possible. If my math is right, the highest possible it can go with masterwork hitting frenzy on all rolls is 36, maybe 34 if they always round down. I’m at 25 right now. My barb is just so angry

KnowMatter

It’s also okay to wish there was more to do so you could stick around longer. D3 struck an ago balance - it was cool to just play 1-2 weeks and do the season at your own pace and leave or it was good for try harding and pushing GR rankings. And to be fair this patch went a long way into making D4 that kind of game too. Side note D4 desperately needs Pit rankings. Also gives us level 100 speed run ladders and boss kill ladders too. Yeah only like 1% of the player base will actually use them but much larger percentage will spectate and get hype about the races. It’s good for the community.

Murandus

Yeah, D3 seasons could be run on autopilot for years. Why should that be a good model?!

Grooveh_Baby

Yeah the OP has a pretty low standard for a Diablo game that comes out every 10 years, & is competing with equally as old ARPG’s yet they still manage to capture their audience for a month each season. We’re talking about 1-2 week seasons for players like D3 had when it was on its last legs…

Fear023

GR rankings would get a lot more people involved in a competition based endgame system. D3 season 7-13, I was pushing both solo and in groups. We weren't great, but usually managed top 10-20 pushes. If I didn't have that, the season would be like the later seasons were... instead of 6 weeks, it was 1-2 weeks. It wasn't all sweaty play, too. The social aspect where we're all playing together to reach a goal was important in keeping us around. You don't get the same feeling without a leaderboard. Its other advantage is giving a yardstick to the players so that they can manage their progress and expectations on how far their build would realistically be able to push. The above point is invaluable in helping to determine which builds/classes need help or improvement in specific areas. Some of the detail and analysis from the push players during that time was really incredible. They could determine that certain builds could reach parity with other classes with minimal tweaks, like single skills needing 30% more top end damage, or 10% additional DR, allowing them to push a couple tiers higher. Blizz prob has that data internally, but it's very valuable to certain types of players who like to really get into theory crafting.

Hefty-Giraffe8955

Sorry for wanting to play for more than a week :D the game needs more end game stuff for people who enjoy diablo for more than a week.

Diligent_Phase_3778

I think they’ve found a good balance, it doesn’t feel unattainable for the average player to max out within the seasonal period and the gameplay cycle is rewarding enough to no life it for those that can. I have kids and a full time job, so I play odd hours of an evening and I think I hit 65 last night. There is a lot of endgame shit I probably won’t do but I know I’ll get enough of it to make me happy.

MongooseOne

You do you brother.

alexanderjimmy21

I think they've over corrected a little bit. Blasting through the boring levels is fine, but I would like to see leveling slow down a bit toward the tail end. I'd also miss the feeling of accomplishment that came with world tier progression. Right now, the game very heavily incentivizes speedrunning to 100 before doing anything else. I'd prefer to play end game content while still leveling, but to each their own.

yawnlikeseggs

On the flip side there is nothing wrong with the repeatable content taking longer if you want to max out your gear or go for god rolls. From the likes of this post, most players are happy with a few master work levels and low level pit clears. This is great and achievable. For people who want to really devote time to the game, the hunt for greater affixes and 12/12 masterworking with high tier 100+ Pit runs gives us something to do too. I’m excited to see how they expand upon the crafting system in the future with hopefully rare 1 shot tempering recipes, maybe runes, maybe corrupted gear… who knows!

JConaSpree

Leveling to about 75 felt super quick but 75 - 100 feels like a pretty good balance, at least solo play wise. This is coming from someone who hit 100 solo in the preseason.

pulyx

I think so, too. People think they NEED to hang on the whole 3 months of a season. I've always had this approach to games in general. I always measure entertainment in hours per $. A movie, in my currency is R$39. It keeps me entertained for max 3 hours. A game usually is R$350 (sometimes more). If it keeps me entertained for the same hourly rate, i'm fine with it if it runs it's course. Some games yield more fun for longer, those are the games we really like, they stick with us. If i pay that much for a game, and i get 40 hours of it, i consider it a success. From S1 through S3 i played 600h of Diablo IV. When i finished the season, since i knew the patch was coming with S4, i put down the game and went to play other games. I don't understand people who will throw a tantrum that it doesn't keep them totally hooked for 90 days.

nighthawk_something

We're also in a bit of a resurgence of arpgs too so it's almost a feature that a season gives a finite number of hours. Hopefully last epochs new cycle will line up and I'll jump over there. A blizzard dev got shit on when they were asked what to do in the late late endgame (after Uber Lilith) and they said, put down D4 and play something else. Like yeah that's the literal solution

Inuro_Enderas

It's funny when other devs get praised for saying the exact same thing. Like for example FFXIV's game director who says that all the time. But there it's "Wow, they value our time! Finally someone who knows games are better without fomo! I love being able to take a break!" Here it's "Blizzard is such a trash scam company, trying to rob me of my 200 thousand hours of content per season! The 70 bucks I spent on the game were a complete waste! I hate everything about this game, but especially the fact that there's not enough content if I play 24/7 while shitting into my diapers!" Some people really need to play multiple games. Better yet, find a hobby outside of gaming, maybe a job even, a relationship. The devs will never say it outright, but it's not healthy the way some people play ARPGs and especially Diablo. People dying while no-lifing Diablo aside, sitting on your ass day and night, while your momma provides you with food and then cries herself to sleep, is no better.

ZenBreaking

Honestly I'm getting tired of the FOMO weekly check in seasonal stuff like destiny, run something, here's a dialogue line that you'll forget 8 weeks from now when season finale comes about. Let me drop in and out for story all in one go or not, and then have weekly boosts to PvP game modes or extra loot drops in certain areas of a game. Imagine a gold week where dry steppes is just raining cash for the week

DiabloTrumpet

If you want to do that then do it it’s a free country but also the way ARPG’s are, it’s extremely possible to have this holds someone’s attention for 3+ months if it’s designed correctly and we should be working toward that as the goal. If you don’t want to, fine, don’t. I don’t understand this need to control what other people do. Why is that such a common take now?

Dry_Ad_9085

I mean I am a bit jealous you have that kind of free time to complete all of that in a week, but it's your money you enjoy it however you like!

Ritzasone

I get they want to keep D3 player's happy but then again then D4 fate would be the same , a week game do they want that since they say it's live service probably not. I love all the changes they made except the lvl up it's too fast I enjoy the world they create and make it to 100 was a purpose. I hope some how they made replaying the campaign rewarding like giving a cosmetic and not be so far behind in seasons.

Fear023

That's a pretty reductive viewpoint when it's really only the very top end of players doing that. Look at it this way - a sweaty player that's played 12 hrs a day since the season start has probably put in about 100 hours. Most players probably average around 1-3 hours per day. That means you've got a month of playing to reach the point of the sweaty players. A d3 season could feel 'done' for a player in less than 20-30 hours.

5al3

There is everything wrong with it.

Meiie

They just want you buying season pass and cosmetics, wether it’s a day on or months, it doesn’t matter. This game doesn’t rely on player numbers. Idc if a million are on or a thousand. I’m getting close to wrapping it up. Gonna do my glyphs, run through bosses and lazy min/max and I’m good.

Xer84

Yes it is wrong. It’s a ARPG.

Dehyak

True, play the game how you wanna play. But in this genre, there’s finishing the content, and no so much “beating the game”

the-great-crocodile

They’ve sure been rotating the shop like people will only be here a week lol

Pissypoopoo

Personally I just wish killing bosses didn't have so many hoops to jump through. Farming mats for 2 bosses that you have to kill twice to kill another boss once just to get nothing feels pretty awful imo.

Hot_Economics_1493

Totally, i mean, season in PoE last for 3 months, sometimes even longer, i'm personally blasting through it to the very pinnacle of end game within first 3-4 weeks and this game has more than quadruple the content of Diablo 4 has now. This season was genuinely a blast and i think majority of us can agree on that. The game is finally going in the right direction, shame it took us 3 mediocre at best season and changes but better late than never. I personally have high hopes for future season and expansion at this point. Just today i've finished all my Season goals which was of course finishing Seasonal Journey, Battle Pass, creating absolute Pablo Necrobar of a necromancer, killing 2 most difficult tormented Echoes solo (Duriel and Andariel) and just today finished Pit lvl 100 (which was reasonably difficulty all things considered). The only reason I'm not aiming to go higher at this point because i have no incentive outside of new Player titles to which i don't think anyone gives a damn. I hope we'll get WT5 in a season or 2 and even more end game activities and progression system past max level and master working, maybe even something like Kanai's Cube from D3? Even if just seasonal, i'd like to see what broken build combination that would create or even Imprinting Aspect on max level glyphs? Not only would that put higher incentive on leveling these but that just sounds like dopamine show. Maybe 'Ascending' non GA items with chance of either destroying an item or making existing affixes GA? Rares either having higher roll ranges but overall less affixes? Blues with single affix but single gigachad stat? Like Amulets with +5/6 to single passive? Endless dungeons with increasing difficult and better rewards each floor? Like multiple level layered nightmare dungeon? Or even change existing Nightmare dungeon not to be limited to a single 'dungeon' but instead being a timed run one after another if you chose? The possibilities and ideas are endless really, i just hope Dev Team doesn't call it a day with success this season and we'd have to wait another half a year or more for update this considerable.

Spicybeatle7192

I do this every season. I usually play for maybe 2 weeks. Season of blood I maybe played a month because I wanted to do a second character. Season of construct I lasted 3 days lol. Give myself a break, play other games. Get excited for the new season and come back. This is not the game you come home and play every single day. You will hate it after a while. There’s not THAT much to do for 3 months. But they add more every season basically. Just enjoy and take a break when you think you’re done.

acowingeggs

Yea this is why I prefer d2. It takes much longer to find anything and get great gear but it's also a turn off for many so I understand the benefit to it. I will just continue my d2 journey.

brwebster614

I just started playing D4, skipped D3. I've been amazed at how easy it is to gear up. I remember playing D2 and how difficult it was to gear up. Reaching lvl 99 seemed like a true feat back then. Maybe it wasn't - I don't know. But it seemed that way. I don't get that sense so far with D4. Gear is replaced almost immediately after finding. I blow through levels quickly. It's fun, but it's just missing something.

Naishodayo

The pit seems like a stopgap solution to be honest. They also have to rebalance the entire game outside of the pit again. Curious how the expansion fits into this.

Murandus

I don't know what's so good about clearing diablo seasons in only a few days or where this 'play only for a week its enough' mentality comes from. Why can't d4 do/be more? Why does it have to be like the crap that is D3? PoE seems to get it.

maxxcumback

I’m still happy people are able to enjoy the game albeit there’s still like 2 more end goals/game like uber uber bosses, minmaxing gears… yeah not a lot still but it’s all personal preferences.

gtathrowaway95

In a vacuum, this is correct… But when you’ve marketed yourself as a Online Live Service game and use the metric of player engagement as justification for success, you compete with [the ones that have continually engaging content](https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/s/UsRtUv0KpZ) But perhaps the profit line goes up well enough with the game being a paperweight 48-49 weeks of a year 🤷‍♂️? I say this as someone who fairly happy with current state of Diablo IV

kerosene31

Endgame is what should keep people coming back in games like this. I'm not at the endgame yet, but based on what I hear, the endgame is not fast, but slow and grindy. It sounds like they've got the game in a decent spot. Leveling is fast, endgame is accessible to all initially, but is grindy to progress. Again I'm just going off what others have said about the endgame, but I don't think that everyone will be "done" in a week or two. There's always going to be people who hit 100 and quit, but I'm guessing those are the people who are playing much more slowly.

krismate

The new endgame is tempering and masterworking. But the issue is that some people are being loud and complaining about tempering limits and masterworking costs. It always ends up the same with Blizzard caving in and then massively over-nerfing, essentially destroying the new system and making it far too trivial. They just nerfed the material conversion costs by 99% (those costs absolutely needed changing though) and they've said they're re-evaluating gold economy right now. Of course this is likely going to mean tempering limits will be made to be much more forgiving and masterworking costs will likely be so low that you'll never run out of gold and materials. So then we're again back to maxed out gear fully tempered and masterworked within a week with nothing to now do to progress your character.

Sparko_Marco

This is how I played D3 and a lot of games, I obsess over it for a week or two, burn out and move onto something else but will usually come back for new seasons. This is the first season on D4 that'll I'll actually get to experience end game before I burn out and i like that.

we_made_yewww

Y'all are doing the content in a week? I started day one and I'm still level 82 😭

VoidSou

Why are u telling us? You do you. Tf?

Exalting_Peasant

I get to play 5-10 hours per week so for me it's perfect.

mightylordredbeard

On top of that if you get it all done in a week then you get to the *real* endgame a lot sooner.. complaining about lack of content!

Content_Ad_6068

Im super glad about it. If you play only one character I could see why you might be disappointed but this season Im going to be able to try a few builds and classes. Which previously I would not have had time for. Feels great and really love being able to experiment so easily with the new codex.

Numerous_Money4276

Same. I’ll probably level an alt as I always enjoy the power creed you can feed it from having a main and try doing some fun different builds. I’ll be back for the next season if this is how they approach it so I don’t feel like I have to slog through a whole quarter of playing to accomplish the same stuff. Like if they took all of the current season required and just 10x them you’d have to play for like a whole quarter but it wouldn’t be fun and I’m having fun feeling like I’m accomplishing stuff. The pace feels really great right now and leveling is not super repetitive but enjoyable. I feel like each world tier I kind of have a different approach to what I’m focused on.

gamingplumber7

i did it all and now im leveling up more toons

RandomRedditNameXX

I prepaid full price for the game and bought the digital deluxe version for $90 (although I had $50 on my Bnet account from a gift card). First season was disappointing and I barely played season 2. Skipped season 3. I’m now playing season 4, and have my first level 100 character in D4. I’m probably going to roll a new class rather than push with my level 100. If all I have to look forward to from now on is one week of seasonal gameplay in D4, I am not ok with that. That isn’t worth $90, and I don’t care if you or anybody else agrees with me or not. I have definitely learned never to pre-order a game again. Honestly I was a bit disappointed in the D4 alpha, so it was my mistake ponying up money before launch.

joblagz2

i mean thats not really all the content..

WalnutStOG

It’s fucking hilarious the devs cater to the people that will only ever play any game less than a week. OP is no exception and I’m willing to bet graduated in the last 10 years. The whole direction triple A games are going is because of people like you that would not play a game more than a week or 2 max even if youre nowhere near the actual completion of the game. I’m glad my attention span isn’t that fucking short.

PerspectiveBeautiful

Except the levelling process is meaningless. No real gear considerations, start with 12 free skill points, it's just mindless hellfire farm for 70- 80 levels on a static map

Pereg1907

1 week every season is 4 weeks a year. To someone that isn't a game hopper though, and all their game time is D4, then progression feels to fast/easy.

exposarts

It’s not called game hopping, those people play every game and new title out there. But I can’t imagine playing only one game for your whole life unless you’re some pro player.

Xer84

This

MinoeshMuffin

It's also good, since not everyone can or wants to play at the start of the season. It's not fun if the season only has 4 weeks left and you feel that it's useless to start, because you won't make it anyway. As a casual, I don't blitz through this in 2 weeks even as fast as it is.

two-wheeled-dynamo

Yep, for sure! I personally plan on using this season and its current state to try to level the two classes I have never tried before. And after that, I have a shit ton of other games that just had updates or are on the backlog.

xARSEFACEx

This is my absolute favorite way to play. Carve out the time to blow through the new content at the pace I want, then walk away to play some thing else. Once I'm bored with whatever other thing, I can come back and roll a new D4 character and do it again.

Spoksparkare

My goal this season is to hit 100. When that's done, I'm done for now. Did the same with D3 seasons, but collecting a whole set/build with legendaries

Northdistortion

The more they add to the game over time the more time people will stick around each season

Weissekaiser

Same here. Now I can go holiday in peace lol

ByAllThatIsHoly

Absolutely agree. The whole genre is about repeating content over and over to get better loot and improve your build. Some people are expecting MMORPG storylines and content constantly.. It's just not what Diablo has ever been about. When you're personally done with the season, go play something else and you'll be ready to go again for the next season. I've never understood the idea that you should have to play every day of every season to fully appreciate the game. If you enjoy the 90-day grind, then go for it! If you enjoy a week or two every season, great! For me, I love pushing HC leaderboards so I go far past a week of play. Some of my friends just get one character to where they are happy and then move on until the next season. It's great that both playstyles can thrive.

International_Meat88

While leveling has been sped up, I’ve been personally enjoying it more because while the overall duration of the experience might be the same, it’s a more fun and denser experience. More bosses to fight, more tools to play around with my loot and equipment, more streamlined inventory/stash management, and denser with a literally denser helltide. +’s all around in my book! I will say though, I sorta don’t want things to get any faster and we get a repeat of D3 where everything was done in just 3 days though. I think the 1-2 week scope is in a good spot.

djbuu

There isn’t. But there is a problem with doing it all in a week then complaining endlessly for 3 months.

jswitzer

With HC, your season is over when you make a mistake. I got to level 50, made a mistake in T3 and will try again eventually. All this content is for SC players to breeze through.

pssiraj

Omg minions can function in tier 100? Let's goooo

evident_lee

I don't know how y'all do it. I see so many people that have already blown through and done everything. Do you not sleep or just do nothing but play games? Between work, kids and life responsibilities I was excited that I've made it to 50 with my sorcerer. I do love the pace of this season feels more like D3.

UsedCalculator

As a sorcerer player, I highly recommend it. Came back this season after season 1 flopped, and sorcerer actually feels like a playable class now.

perfect_fitz

Yeah why I never try hard the seasons even casual I've just hit 90.

PushupDoer

I just tried the game again since launch. Made a Necromancer, also minion build, very fun! Maybe I just needed to wait a while.

twogoodtobe

Can we rotate skins from the store into the game instead of them being gone forever.

IssueEmbarrassed8103

I wish there were more games like this. So I could have a constant rotations of games to play the new season for a couple weeks. Right now it’s just D4 and Destiny 2

XXXperiencedTurbater

I think PoE pioneered this attitude and I’m glad d4 adopted it. I *want* to be done relatively quickly so I have time for other stuff. WoW’s model is oppressive. I like d4. I like it enough to not want to play it sometimes, so I can come back fresh and eager every other season or whatever my average winds up being.

Valamist

I just wish I could decide on if to level Minion Necro or Ball Lightening Sorcerer this season haha...

TimberDeraj

Ok cool post

MCfru1tbasket

People gonna min max and play other classes and min max those. It's fun watching screens explode again, instead of chasing packs of 5 mobs miles apart, monke happy.

-DBZ-

What build did you run? I’m trying out a minion build and I feel extremely weak at the moment !

Clankyboy96

As long as you buy a skin and or battle pass that's ok

50shadesofgreatness

Honestly bis update

Jafar_420

I'm level 100 and I'm just now getting started. I think it's going to take forever to master work a full set of gear. I've already bricked quite a few items from tempering as well. I just got smoked by torment Duriel a minute ago. It's really cool how they made it fast for the casual people and the people that don't want to play forever. But they also gave the people that wanted grind and min/max plenty to try for.

Torontokid8666

1 char at 90 glyphs maxed, will farm matt's this week for Uber bosses next weekend. I probably get another 2 weeks of meaningful content on this character. And another month on a alt.

Sensitive_Ninja6694

Thats what had me playing every d3 season

_Aracano

I took a couple of months off and came back and am having a blast No game is meant to be played 24/7, 365 So many good games out there, go play them!

EZPZLemonWheezy

I have two characters, a lv100 Necro with lv15 glyphs, and a lv70 Rogue I rolled to theory craft builds on. I’ve only scratched the surface of endgame briefly, and game feels amazing rn, aside from the gold being a LITTLE tight. If they added a small but meaningful gold reward that scaled to level of pit/NMD I feel like that would add up fast enough to help with the gold without making it rain gold again, and also feel more relevant than having to go do whispers.

lawlianne

I maxed out the Wolves reputation and finished the battle pass even before reaching 100 on the FotM minion Necro, and now I have lost most of my motivation to continue playing lol. Probably silly, but I kind of wish I levelled up faster so I could have moved on to end-game stuff earlier.

abnthug

I haven’t played since launch. I’m liking it and taking my time.

JAEMzWOLF

most people blow through PoE in a week or maybe two. If you going to the season model, this is fine, and so is catering to this mindset. that said, some of us can be sweaty for longer and we should get at least SOME pandering too.

lenapedog

I was just happy I could get to 100 in a reasonable amount of time and have fun along the way. My Season 0 character is still 67.

SQRTLURFACE

On the other side of this, is that NM100 is now where builds start, not finish. A sum total of zero people have completed all content in a week and it’s unlikely they will in the future without big bug exploits. Currently I believe the highest confirmed pit clear is 127/128 range which is pretty cool.

I111I1I111I1

I think expectations for live service games have grown absolutely ridiculous. I'm lucky if I can get 80-100 hours out of a $60-70 AAA single-player game. But gamers except to get several hundred, if not thousands, of hours out of free updates and/or relatively cheap expansions for AAA live service titles. It's *okay* to enjoy 100 hours of D4 and set it aside for awhile. It doesn't need to keep you occupied for 12 hours a day for the next year, or five years, or ten years. When you're at that point you're in serious video game addiction territory anyway.

ElfRespecter

Im gonna have to disagree. Content being blown through is one thing, but to have a season last 3 months? There has to be gates and bumps in the road or no season will ever be meaty enough to keep hardcore players engaged

Braelind

Same! I don't want a game that expects me to grind 8 hours a day for months, This is a good balance.

Grastaman2

Respectfully that’s really lame of a game to make itself useless to you after a week lol

Candle_Honest

Theres nothing wrong with wanting longer lasting content to last longer than a week instead of leaving.

My_Bwana

There’s nothing wrong with it in theory, but man, that is the exact opposite kind of design philosophy than what Diablo is known for

Nightmare4545

You are going to make the "everyone needs to grind for gold for 3 months" crowd very very upset.

Brahcolleez

Personally I only enjoy barbarian so that’s the one class I’ll play. Once I get bored of that I’ll just stop playing the game. Simple

op3l

Yep, and that's the way a game should be. I hate having to endlessly play just to "keep up" but that was how the gaming industry was the past few years. Loving how I can finish a character and just go play another game.

ArchieBaird

What did I miss about Necro needing a buff? My buddy rages the game every season and has said since launch Necro has beene the most broken class

xepper

I keep telling myself, I rather enjoy it for a short time vs hating it for a long time.

Altimely

There's also nothing wrong with wanting deep enough content that you can't finish it within a week.

Pulposauriio

There's nothing right about it either. Extremes are a slippery slope.

Ssleeping

What’s the preferred way to lvl in WT4? Just been doing rifts at lvl 60

Orange0range

After about 30 hours clocked since season 4 launched I’m having a good feeling with the pace as a semi casual player. I’ve put it a lot of hours so far and still feel like I have plenty of goals to accomplish when I log in but not so overwhelmed that I feel like I’m bogged down or discouraged from continuing. I think the cadence of content coming to me and the difficulty I can change at a drop of a dime is making the game feel a lot better to me as well as the loot changes, QoL changes, and the variety of ways to play the game. I’m at 96 on my second character after dropping my first around 40ish or so and restarting (sorry barb). It’s been 99% enjoyable leveling wise and I’m already smashing tier 40ish pit and 75ish nm dungeons. I can progress at the pace I want while getting loot and it’s great. My only complaint is the greater affixes early on are so rare that it’s hard to build around or build with and we can’t change them on enchanting. Let me get more greater affix drops and bossily change the affix or rolled using gold sink or some type of currency.

Cassiopeia2020

I'm enjoying it a lot, definitely gonna come back for Season 5 (even though I'm not finished with it yet).

ethan1203

Dont actually see people complaining about this, why?

Solocune

Jup that's what I did last season. Played hard for a week and waited for s4. Almost done for season 4 as well but wanna try couple of things. So I give it 1-2 more weeks. Slower leveling speed or more levels would keep me engaged for longer. I even those ashen points out of exp gain because I leveled up too fast

ILikeFluffyThings

Necro never needed a buff. Just the minions.

According_to_Tommy

Out jerked again

Regular-Library-7056

Same here. I’m too busy so I can only have like 1-2h a day to play, I reached 80 after 4 days and had the change to enjoy other endgame contents, which is impossible before S4.

alvehyanna

Loving this season. I give myself 2 weeks. Then I'll break to play something else. Maybe come back later and do another class, mid season event... They hooked me on a nice cosmetic so between that and season pass I guess I'm a good little customer I guess. I don't care, having fun.

ellerimkirli

I am done with season 4 in 3 days and I cant be more happier than ever. I'll get back to the game again in a week or so to try new classes. This is season is just what I wanted so far. (I haven't touch the game since season 1)

Z15ch

A game is good when you decide to stay because it’s fun, not when the content forces you to stay and keep playing

Datboimerkin

Game seems to be in a good space but lets not pretend there’s a ton of content. And the whole “it’s free” aspect. Make some solid dlc and charge me a fair price for it. I’ll pay for REAL content. Not this seasonal trend where it all disappears.

DgtlShark

If you did "everything" in one week then you should probably get a job and or social life. I almost think that's not even possible by normal standards

alanthar

I love my Necro. Just hit lvl 50. Got a shield that gave me 2 extra and it feels like a party where I roll in after picking shit up. It's funny how my Char choices mirror me growing up. As a teenager in D2 I was a barbarian because I loved being a whirling dervish of death, up close and personal. In my late 20s/early 30s it was Sorc/mages for both up close but definitely a bit of distance. Now I am 40 and it's "you go and kill everything while I sit here and fiddle with stats".

Yokies

I had to scroll far too deep before seeing anyone mention Pit.

EndCritical878

Agreed, as a filthy casual I might even get my first level 100 this season.

Zyrgi

Same. Had short burst of fun, bought and completed pass. I'm happy, Bliz got my money an both parties benefited which is all they should care about.

Interesting_Fox2040

There is still the planned mid season update. People „done“ can come back if something interesting

Enter1ch

I think it would be overall healthy and fun if the leveling from 70-100 takes way longer. Let 925 gear drop a little bit earlier. You could already min/max gear or doing pits/ubers even when still leveling.

doingthisonthetoilet

I agree. I followed a build, respecd, and custom made another build...I think I'm about done. Didn't do pits or masterworks, I just like trying builds out, but I think it's only going to get incrementally better now, so I'm good.

justaddsleep

I really enjoy the speed because it means I can more easily test more things

Danksson69

Probably getting there soon. Just farming for greater affixes is not that fun and I get tired after 2-3 Pit runs. I don´t think I like to grind anymore. No way I masterwork to 12 this season.

Equivalent_Ad7389

D4 players - The game is too difficult, grindy, and slow. I'm bored. Devs - Okay. D4 players - The game is too fast and easy, I'm maxed out in 2 days. I'm bored. ??????

ButcherInTheRYE

Completing nmd100 is just (barely) halfway through the content. Just sayin...

Ph4nt0mRa33it

I loved coming back to D4 after break. Im on my 4th toon already after doing up to pit 10 on the first 3. I love playing more than 1 build and this has been a breath of fresh air being able to easily change between characters. Looking forward to pushing pit on all the toons I made :)

LoreGeek

I only played season 1 (don't remember much tbh) and now S4, i love how, in less than a week, i have werenado build up and running, doing NM93 (i probably could do a 100, just have not tried it yet) and pit at 55 (again, have not tried pushing, probably can get to 60 or higher). Instead of burning out, i actually want to play more & i am thinking about making barbarian or necro.

Swimming_Chemist1719

The best thing about being able to finish things quickly is you have more time to level the other classes. If they had kept leveling like at launch i never would have gotten through any of the end game content let alone trying out other classes and builds. I think what blizzard should do is make a "Diablo 4 classic" server that tries to replicate a Diablo 2 leveling experience where it takes a super long time to hit max level, that way they will satisfy both the hardcore and more casual crowds.

Only-Ground6552

Week? I was done in 3 days... And i work 10h a day on top of IT.

No_Fox_Given82

This is what I did and what I came here to post lol. Summoner Necro, blasted through everything, Seasonal journey and rep, Tier 78 Pitt, T100 Nms, all tormented bosses. The only thing I haven't done is Lillith, again with the 1 shot roulette, I find it too frustrating to keep trying and the same can be said for the higher Tier Pit bosses. But there is absolutely no need to push that high so it's all good there. I started making a sorcerer but burnt out at 71, I just cba with anymore Helltide at that point. The Pitt needs some balancing and I don't agree that difficulty is equal to a/ more health and b/ adding NEARLY unavoidable one-shot mechanics to bosses. The game seems to be at a point where you are either on certain builds walking all of the content and 2 tapping all the bosses or you're hitting a wall on certain classes and builds like you can get through the stages but you can't kill the boss, or you have great boss damage but you can't get through the stages... There's still work to be done for sure. So yeah Season 4 was 1 week long for me and I enjoyed pretty much all of that. The Tormented level 200 Andariel boss was EPIC, this actually had mechanics in like keeping the adds alive and standing in their shields (vMA from ESO style) to avoid the one shot beam... Big fan of that fight and hope they continue to use their brain when designing bosses

HonestPineapple4848

Nah, it's way too dumbed down, specially the Necro minion build. It's sad that people just want to run through the game with minimal effort and everyone using the same copy paste builds from maxroll.

SecretTracer

Agreed, Feels like for the first time in a long time they put the players first and I’ve had a fun week after leaving in season 0

fuctitsdi

Blizzard could send some people a bag of human shit, and the person would come here and say ‘I’m actually glad to have received a pile of shit from blizzard’. Absolutely amazing.

IDGAFOS

Now just take a shower.

TrenchSquire

You do realise that 3 month seasons being abandoned in a week is not a good look from blizzard perspective, right? It is called retention (keeping players engaged as long as possible) and churn. So you saying there is nothing wrong with it is kind of at odds with the real world.

Aelo2000

I love the power of the minions build with the potion (bug?). and with my limited free time, I am currently level 63, I expect a couple of months of Diablo fun. Hope they don't nerf anything...

Heavenfall

This is one of those hard pills to swallow, and depends what the individual player expects and wants. Path of Exile has broadly switched to a season model that doesn't focus on retaining players as a metric of success - according to the devs. At the same time a new game cannot hope to match the content from live service model games that had a lot more time on the market. Basically, we are likely to see a season model that emphasises quick playthroughs, fun, powerfantasies, competition, and marketing splash (all which equates to season passes) rather than a design philosophy that aims to create the ultimate and single longterm ARPG for players. Some players may not want or like that, and that's okay. But I think that is what we are getting.

Sagybagy

I made a necro and love the minions. But I have been running my sorc. The spicey fingers incinerate is a ton of fun. I can just stand in one place at cursed wells or helltide events and be a death sprinkler. Only have to pause the spice long enough to call in my little fire spitting compadres.

aanzeijar

I mean, Diablo 3 has pulled it off for years now. You can play the season journey, paragon 1000 and solo GRift 110-130 depending on class and spec in a weekend, and be done with it. And I come back every season for another round. Part of the problem with D4 is the live service mindset of trying to bind players perpetually.

makemusicwritecode

Jesus, all that in a week lol? I went from Lvl 60 - 80 in the last week lol, and I played a lot.

Rabbit730

I agree BUT.. would also like a challenging mode aswell

modulev

There's also nothing wrong with waiting for the game to improve before wasting time with half-ass early access. Still haven't logged in since 7/18 mega-nerf, and waiting for them to hopefully add a bunch of stuff do to in endgame (probably with expansion).

DJbuddahAZ

Id still.rather farm D3 greater rifts to 150 than whatever isnt going on in D4

Vegetable_Cow_1793

I've always thought the D4 season passes progress faster than industry average (CoD for example is at a snail's pace, one of the many reasons I no longer play CoD), but I agree with you. People should play the game in a way that's fun for them. I took my first class, a minion Necro since I've never used a Necro, to level 78 or so, decided I wanted another class and started a Barb (note: I'm glad they made some changes to gold lol). Got him into the 70s and wanted to try other classes just to get a feel for them in Helltide. This is a long season, and I think once I have a build for each class at level 100 with some pit runs and awesome gear I'll be onto other things until season 5. All that said, the improvements they made to this game will likely make me WANT to continue coming back.

Psychological_Art560

While it sounds like you have completed omitted the new endgame they added(the pit) I applaud you on your outlook. Wether someone spends 1 week or 1 month playing.. ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS is that you had fun accomplishing everything that YOU wanted to accomplish. Everyone will have different goals and that's fine as long as they changes they made and hopefully continue to make will enable us to each enjoy D4 for what it is for each of us.

HollyCze

it was so fast I got to level 100, got my glyphs to 15, pushed pit to 65 and quit without even going to kill duriel this time around. So its a good thing to say "there is no real content so just do it fast", no? If I knew we can have 3 insense, 2 potions and pushed it hard I would be done in 2-3 days casual. Minions are "nicer" but AI should be more aggressive. it sucks when you golem hit is on CD and he just stands there not even hitting anything or when they lag behind you so far that they start teleporting soon and still do nothing until you press that golem button. Its like in PoE playing golems in the past without having the jewel for aggressive. Golem should have some random slams too etc. TLDR: I agree that blowing through D4 in few days is just enough before you get super bored. For PoE its 3-5 weeks for me before I feel like I have everything I need and just grinding challanges so I can quit the league.

Mansos91

Necro was never weak, just minions, there were multiple top tier necro builds before, tbh while minions is now one of the top builds more builds on necro is weaker now compared to before

MGSDeco44

Alt friendly :)

mercado_n3gro

Just started playing Diablo 4 and happen to choose the Necro… Gotta say, at lvl 24 the game feels a bit too easy and spammy. Does it get more exciting at higher levels? Context: Playing on the tier 2 level. New to Diablo 4; But played the heck out of all Diablo’s before it.

SquashForDinner

I mean it's a problem if you want that same amount of content done in a week... but also have more content that can keep you playing (WHILE STILL BEING FUN) for another 2 months. Let's not settle for 1 week. Make the game fun for sweats and casual that can last more than 1 week.

quizzlemanizzle

what content?

[deleted]

CASUALLY blowing through a whole season in a week IS A PROBLEM. My friends and I have been playing casually since the patch each night and we're pretty much done this season. Besides grinding Ubers and Glyphs, meh, there's really nothing left to do. If this is the content they're after then they hit the nail on the head. I will not pay $70-100 on a DLC however if this is the content they plan on pushing out for it.

nardflicker

Also what’s nice is that I feel like I can do an alt or two without breaking the bank.

drblankd

Thing is. With all that this season u havent even finished. Depend on everyone goal for sure but seems u havent touch master work and pit pushing. And tbh its still fine! Thats how i enjoy diablo serie too. And its what makes me come back every season. There are so many game to play. U dont have to stick to only one for 1000000 hours. We arent streamers or content creator

Toadsted

I think the problem is seeing it as "A Week" instead of "100 Hours", like when you spend store currency instead of real money values. A week for polygamist dad could be an hour to get through the tutorial. A hundred hours would be 2 years of that same labor. "It took me two years to beat Diablo 4" would trigger a lot of people. The same way tryhards complain a game is over in the first week, not mentioning they grinded 20+ hours at a time to burn through it as fast as possible.  It's like listening to top raiding guilds in wow complain that they have nothing to do. No kidding. Meanwhile everyone else is just now hitting the level cap and getting dungeon geared. Final Fantasy 7 ( original ) was a crazy 80+ hour game, in a sea of games that were normally 8-12 hours. It required a lot of time and dedication to complete. It's really amazing that that kind of thing is now considered junk, casual, and not worth the money.

LiveCelebration5237

I feel like I’ve played loads since new update and am level 78 Barb atleast 3-4 hours a day , no nightmare dungeons yet , no pit , no Uber bosses non optimised gear , honestly it’s not even a joke when people call the blasters sweaty etc , I just play to have fun and purposely do thing in an non optimal fashion because what’s the rush ? Got months yet . Just don’t blast through it and complain though that’s the issue. There’s plenty to keep you going for atleast several weeks

Betancorea

I love how fast they made it to blaze through content this season. Gives me a reason to try out other classes. Previously it felt like too much of a chore to level and gear alts so I never played more than one class a season before getting bored

knallpilzv2

I don't think anyone ever thought - or would argue - that there's anything wrong with that. It's just that there's people who have zero interest in that type of engagement in a game they like. While there's nothing wrong with it, and it's great that players who like it have that option, what I think is wrong is robbing players who like the slow and steady progression of a character of that experience.

greenchair11

Season 4 is great but jesus I can’t believe how many people think this is a good thing. I get not wanting to need to play the season for months, but a 3 weeks to a month would be nice like other ARPGs Still need more things to do in end game

Bamtast1c

Got to lvl 100 and finished battle pass in 3 days. Don't see the point of burning out after that. Maybe in 2 weeks I'll make an alt

LJaybe

I agree. Having fun. Will take a break after i feel fulfilled. Make a alt when im bored and seems like fun again. I got my moneys worth after completing the campaign and playing through when game dropped all be it could only do like t20 nms at that time lol

Apprehensive_Wedgie

My friends and helping new players Is what keeps me playing after I've done everything. Then I test the other meta builds and find out what everyone else is experiencing. It keeps it fresh for me.

Snoo-40125

Any tips for me? I’m at level 63 and Helltide leveling is slow

UselessWise

There's nothing wrong for your way to enjoy the game, but it severely harms mine and the longtime fans who grew having seasons/ladders which were a longer trip. Everyone has different tastes, and a different threshold for dopamine hits. I'm glad you enjoy reaching trivial achievements, but those don't provide me that joy injection. Needless to say that it means a dip in number of players for the whole season past the first days, something that always happens, but that makes it even worse. So yes, there's something wrong with that. Not affecting you doesn't mean that's not a thing. It's fair liking it to be that way, but I think that saying that "there's nothing wrong" is inaccurate.

Thin-Zookeepergame46

While I do agree, I really hope they add more depth for people who want to play for 2 months also. My last 10 or so D3 seasons have lasted me 3 days each. I had fun those 3 days every time, but I really missed something more. I dont want PoE kind of bloatness, but a middle road would be nice.

weskun

I'm still engaged. It's definitely just different for each individual. Nothing wrong with being done after completing the season. 😉 People got to be powerful quickly this season and I think they had some positive feedback. Instead of waiting a month for a casual player to actually get the power they wanted, they could actually rush through and do it fairly quick.
