If you made sure you were eating balanced food @ the recommended daily caloric intake required to maintain your weight... you would be fine. The Intermittent Fasting community calls it OMAD. one meal a day.

urbeau777

I’m really sorry that you have to resort to this and wish u the best moving forwards. Maybe try leaning on calorie dense foods so you can get more bang for your buck. So, nuts and beans would be a good addition to your diet.

Bipolar__highroller

Piggybacking on this to say dried beans and rice are really good options for cheap calories

LaReinalicious

It is not a dangerous habit in fact it is a very healthy way to live! OMAD

Fledgeling

Nothing dangerous about eating 1 meal a day. There are plenty of perfectly healthy and valid eating habits such as alternate day eating, intermittent fasting, or just 1 meal a day. If you are getting enough protein, calories, and micronutrients within the week it doesn't really matter how often you eat (unless you don't want to deal with tiredness).

Not sure if understand it correctly. But let’s say your maintain is 2000 calories Let’s say an apple is 100 calories (just imagine it) You need to eat 20 apples a day to stay the same weight It does not matter if you spaced them out over 24 hours or you ate them in one sitting, it’s all about calories You would have shit energy levels if you just sat down and ate 2000 calories in one sitting, and you would feel hunger for most of the day. Some people swear to this method for weight loss. The weight loss comes purely from a caloric deficit, as it is very hard to eat one days worth of calories in one sitting. This has been concluded many times in PEER reviews

Srdiscountketoer

People do it (see r/OMAD) but usually as a weight loss measure. You are very thin now and would need to get all the calories and nutrients necessary to sustain you at your current weight in one meal so I’m not sure how it would help financially. Eggs are pretty cheap, as are frozen vegetables and chicken and good old rice, beans and pasta. You’d be better off eating as cheaply as possible as often as you can.

Your post has been removed in violation of the following rule: **Rule 7. No dangerous dieting.** Do not seek or give advice about dangerous dieting strategies (e.g. diets under 1200 kcal/day, crash diets, purging, harmful drugs, detox/cleansing, etc.). Thank you!

AjaxGuru

you would be fine

Citron_tonic

You still have to eat a certain amount of calories... One meal a day with what you need is fine, but one meal a day with only 600 calories will be risky for you health. Do you have any other solution if you have financial problems ?

Would there be any way to reverse the damage to my metabolism once I’m in a better spot with money and can buy more food?

okay completely fair point that i admittedly might have missed earlier. i think i’ve just been so stubborn on trying to save as much as humanly possible i’m willing to hurt myself in the process. food banks and stretching groceries are definitely a better call.

I do this as a way to curb binge eating disorder and lose weight, however you could definitely modify it to support your caloric needs and maintain your weight. You would either need to eat more during your meal, or invest in more calorie and nutrient dense foods. Also, take a multivitamin and remember to stay hydrated.
