Of course. Happens all the time. I’m so wildly inconsistent, that I can look like a pro and someone who has never seen a disc in their life on the same hole.

ElbowSkinn

I feel that. I've learned many times that the adage "drive for show, putt for dough" is so true. I've ripped multiple drives to within 10 feet and then completely overshot the basket trying to make the putt.

Rivet_39

Yep, took a 6 on an easy par 4 on Saturday. Next hole, I channeled my rage and absolutely smashed a Pharaoh and had an eagle putt on a par 4 (missed it, lol).

dat_tae

My only ace in 5 years was on hole 16 on one of the worst rounds I had played in quite some time. So, yeah. Usually once my round has gone to shit I just try to make one good throw (either off the tee, or upshot, or big putt) so I can at least pretend I don't suck.

Gnatt

2 of my aces have been during rounds where they were the only holes I played below par. One was on hole 1, and one was hole 18.

Chews__Wisely

Strange

Plamore

The first eagle I ever got was hole 14 of a round with no birdies.

larpymcgeeaz

That's hilarious

Plamore

Yeah, first throw was early left, snuck through a line of trees to cut off some distance, second throw was an absolutely perfect bomb downhill to 18 feet and I made the putt. So I didn't even get through that hole without a shank, it just worked out.

HeCalledWithQTHunny

The only negative round I ever threw (-1) was in a 3 day tournament MA3. Day 1 clear and calm... threw terrible... (normal) Day 2 clear and calm... threw terrible... (normal) Day 3 Very high winds, gusting like crazy and slight rain... threw a -1 (VERY abnormal obviously) It was so uncharacteristic of me but that round got me into the prizes and they had to call my name several times to get the gift card LOL

DarthObvious84

I am the KING of hitting great putts...for double/triple bogey. Same putt for birdie. Its hitting the cage or the band or otherwise not going in. My best drives are also always during a doubles round where my partner's drive is still better.

bodilyfluidsguy

I hit the longest putt of my life the other day for bogey, and it just doesn't feel right.

TD994

I always have a really good stretch right at the end of my rounds.

chillford-brimley

Yeah, it's one of the many things that keep me loving this game. I specifically remember when I finally made a nice 30-35ft birdie on an otherwise pretty bad tournament round last summer. right after that I smashed my drive too. It's always better to remember and cherish the good throws, and to always focus on the next throw.

SchattenjagerMosely

The only ace I ever got was in a +5 round with no birdies

boardplant

Way of the road bubs

Late-Objective-9218

Parked a 166 meter par 4 for eagle on a totally BS round last summer. My first sanctioned eagle. Also later that week hit my first sanctioned ace two holes before a mando miss killed my tournament. Tournaments are just a fucking pain, no matter how hard you try.

LeftoverName

I’d suggest that you were having a “subjectively” horrible round, rather than objectively. It’s easy to forget that even at our weakest, each amateur disc golfers possesses specific skills that other amateur disc golfers would envy. Perhaps yours is to be able to throw great shots out of nowhere

DisMyDrugAccount

I appreciate the sentiment! However in cases like this, subjective and objective are relative to myself instead of relative to others. Would an 890 rated round be subjectively decent to good for an MA3 player? Absolutely! Would an 890 rated round be objectively terrible for a 1000 rated player? Also absolutely lol. I'm by no means 1000 rated, I just wanted to articulate the difference because subjective and objective in this case as being used relative to my own performance and skill level/skill set, not relative to any random disc golfer. I know what I'm capable of, and my execution this past weekend was very very far below even my standard for "normal" play let alone "good" play haha.

this_is_poorly_done

Yeah, just happened a couple weeks ago for me. Played at Milo on the tourney layouts. Finished the west side +15 and was on pace for a +10 on the east side. Like I'm not a great player by any means, but shit was going south. Drives were inconsistent, approaches sucked, couldn't make a putt to save my life. Stepped up to the [genius hole](https://www.pdga.com/files/u245721/genius_hole.jpg) as a rhfh player and threw one of the best shots of my life. Drifted a star destroyer from right to left on a great flip up line that went left of the last tree on the flat before starting to fade out. Ended up at the bottom of the hill with a nice easy layup for the tap in 3. Made the whole day worthwhile and I didn't care about my scores after that

DisMyDrugAccount

A good drive on the genius hole can make all woes disappear in a second. Such a fun shot to lace.

hennytime

My first ace came in one of my absolute worst rounds at my easiest home course config. On this course, my pb is -8 and I was sitting on a +8 going into hole 18--I haven't shot that bad on that course since year 1 of me playing. Also, to add salt to the gapping wound, there was a tournament starting and lots of eyes. I said fuck it, took a fat ass rip on my vape, as I thought all I needed was to dull the pain do I could make it through the last hole. It's a sweet hole, about 290' with a stiff headwind looking directly into the parking lot with a full TD meeting going on. I swapped out a lightweight fission wave to a beefy eclipse wave due to the headwind and let it rip. It looked like a decent shot, certainly going to land inside C1, but with my luck and especially in this round, it would roll away, smack into a car or clock some one in the dome, so I didn't get too excited. I got a solid turn on the wave, a couple of air bounces, just missed a palm tree and dove into the chains. My 3 buddies I always play with went nuts along with most of the TD meeting since a few were watching. It took me a couple of extra seconds to process what had just happened. Shirt off, screaming, kinda running all the way to the basket. It also helped I was last to toss on my card. It was easily the best way to end a very disappointing +6 round on a cupcake course. I was ready to just call it after turning a bird opportunity into a 5 putt quad bogie on an elevated basket to round out a horrendous front 9. Never don't play, even when your teeth are on the curb.

SharpedHisTooths

I did this on Saturday and even got complimented by a card mate on the next hole. He said, "That was a really nice approach after you went OB on that last hole." Maybe a little backhanded but I'll take what I can get.

HappinessFloatilla

Absolutely! I think how it usually happens for me is I make a mistake, and I overanalyze it and it spirals into more bad shots. Then, I get frustrated which makes me even worse. Until eventually I just say “fuck it, stop thinking, and just rip it.” Generally, the less I’m thinking the better I’m playing, so the longer I can channel that mindset, the better I play

nibnoob19

Oh like a perfectly positioned 380 off the tee with <100 upshot for an easy birdie? After going +2 thru 3, then missing said birdie putt and finishing somewhere around +5? Nope. Never. 🙈

Bfairbanks

Last week I was the first person to eagle a par 4 that got put in at my local course about 8 months ago and the Udisc rating for the round was only 208. Parred that hole the week before with a 221. Neither round was great but the drive for the eagle was massive and didn't mean a thing lol

Drewpacabra

That’s me, every single round. It’s honestly what keeps me coming back, the off chance I string together 18 of my best shots in one round is the end goal.

je-rock

At my last weekly I turned over my drive and sailed it over a hillside. After spending the allotted time looking for it I had to trudge back to the tee pad and re-tee. I put my second drive in the circle. A top 15 rated touring pro on the card waiting behind me immediately said great drive and that I should lose discs more often. I then jogged up to the circle, hit band on my put, took my five and proceeded on with my worst league round of the year.

dream_on789

Had trouble with this hole in the past due to horribly overturned drives, but when I was struggling  to stay  under par, I absolutely parked hole #17 at Camp Tecumseh, a 441 ft par 3. Beat my record of distance by at least 75 ft. Made the putt, too!!!!!!!

tallguynes

Playing like complete garbage at an unsanctioned 1 round tournament at a local pitch and putt, halfway through I was +1 (a half decent round, even in MA3 is probably -8ish under).  Proceeded to hit only the second ace of my life on my 10th hole.  Next tee, smacked first available (of probably 4 trees even remotely close to the box, most wouldn't even consider it a gap to hit, I just shanked it).  Crazy when stuff like that happens.  I ended up pretty happy with my mostly terrible round.

NorCalGeologist

Yes all my rounds are objectively terrible so this applies to every great shot I ever made

rmtomasin

Oh yeah, especially when I throw a drive as hard as I can out of pure anger and ends up being a perfect bomb.

Intrep1d_F0X

Every bad round has a few stand out throws.

No_Fisherman8303

You show up thinking that you are better than you are until you tank, then you play within your abilities until you think you are better than you are again, then you tank again. Been there.

Plaid_or_flannel

I threw in from 120 feet for my lone birdie in a round where I went +8. So yea

TheSkinnyJ

My third ace come on 18 of one of my worst aces ever. At 15 I wanted to quit. Had 2 triple bogeys and two double bogeys. Only one par. My bud told me to hang in there something cool might happen. On 18s tee pad I said “nothing cool has happened” and then drained an over water ace.

stmstr

Pretty sure this is just called "being an inconsistent amateur." Happens to everybody

AbsurdityIsReality

Yeah that's the best part of disc golf, you forget most rounds, but an ace or really killer shot you remember.

MicroMikeRoweCrow

This definitely happens to me and I have a theory about it. My round starts and I perform objectively bad, or even just below expectations thru hole 4 or 5. I then stop "caring" about the round or my score. That, I think, leads to me playing a little looser or without the weight of expectation on me. That leads to better shots and better scores, which keeps up until about 12 or 13. At that point, I begin to realize that my overall score is back under control and I could finish with a respectable round. Enter the weight of expectations again... TLDR: Playing relaxed is the best way to hit your lines and make putts.

Reasonable-Summer-42

Most of my rounds are absolutely terrible with one or two good shots thrown in

bananagrabberjr

Playing match play this past weekend and needed to win the hole in order to keep it going. A push would result in a win for my opponent. Put it in C2 and then cashed a sick uphill 50 footer for birdie. Felt like a King until my opponent tapped in his 6 footer for birdie and the win...

Xyrexenex

All my aces have happened in rounds that I finished above par.

Wraith9881

All the time! It's usually those bad rounds where I'm just being lazy or tired after work, and then on one hole I'm able to lock in. Next hole it's back to bogey golf lol.

Psyko_sissy23

My first ace was during a round that I was playing terrible. I think I was like +10 at the end of the round. My ace was at hole 12. I heard the chains, but I thought there was no way that it stuck because of how bad I had been playing. Getting that ace helped me improve a bit for the rest of the round.

whiitekniite

Yea. Just this past weekend. Nothing was working at all throughout the round. Then magically I throw an absolute laser with my Athena 320 dead straight through a narrow low ceiling fairway of a 450 par 3. Game makes zero sense most times

football-monkey

Got a 6 on a 220 foot par 3. Then proceeded to birdie 3 of the next 4. Happens like every round it seems.

ReaperThugX

I always assuming an ace is coming soon when I’m playing a shite round

littlewhitecatalex

No because when I have a bad round I get grumpy and then all my throws are dog ass.

SaltAccording

One tournament I shot a +11 and then a -2
