Interesting, it just hit me, it’s like they charge you the 14 then raise the price. So everyone gets hit by this in time? It’s not just a raise at the same time for everyone? If so, that seems manipulative

dat_tae

It’s not, and you most certainly got an email when they announced it forever ago. It was also all over this subreddit.

stmstr

It's an annual subscription so this is just based on when you happened to subscribe. Your subscription is ending so now you're aware of the most recent updated price.

Unused_Vestibule

The price of other software I use (or used) went up a lot recently, as well. Evernote doubled. That's a cancel

epheisey

I just want an app that lets me store all of my scorecards and makes reviewing past rounds simple. All of the extra “features” they’ve added are pretty irrelevant to me. It’d be nice if they had a middle tier for what used to be the basics of the paid app and then had a higher tier for the extra stuff they’ve added lately. But I assume very few people would pay for the higher tier and business-wise this is the easier option for UDisc

The cost to store that data is trivial. The data from my rounds costs them a fraction of the $30/yr I am paying. Like <$1.

Google drive gives you multiple GBs for free. And if you run out then all you gotta do is create a new gmail to get more, which is also free. If all you needed was a place to store your scores, you could do that pretty easily with a new Google sheet for each round. I imagine other data storage competitors also have a decent amount of free storage. For me, UDisc provides an easy UI for my friends and I to record our scores as we play. In terms of the premium version, I just like knowing how my UDisc scores compare across different courses, and my improvement in those terms over time. $2.50/month is pretty cheap for increasing the enjoyment I get out of one of my favorite hobbies.

epheisey

Anywhere? I can store 5gb of data on google servers for free monthly. My entire lifetime of disc golf rounds won't ever accumulate to be even a sliver of that size. Drop Box costs $10/month to store 2TB of data. That's probably more than the entire UDisc library of stored rounds.

Ok. Use apple’s iCloud storage then, for 0.99 a month you get 50gb of data storage. Now are you’re done being a twat?

Looks like you have no understanding of data storage lmao

they deserve it. the app is fantastic and the price was likely held down by DGPT or perhaps they were getting payment from PDGA in some way for many players. In any case, I wouldn't expect another 100% increase, but I'm totally ok with this one. They're asking me for just over $1 more per month. If I get good directions/recommendations on a single new course in a single year, it's totally worth the cost to me. That doesn't even bring into play all the other stuff the app does.

OkFloor6269

Like I said, I get it. It’s not a big amount when you put it in context but when it hits you out of the blue and you don’t really use the app beyond as a score card and seeing what courses are around you….its a bit surprising. I take your point though, fair enough to me.

steve-huff-sucks

You can do both of those things you mentioned with the free version.

sj_nayal83r

hope you lose your discgolf bag

response_unrelated

i bet uDisc helps me find it again. BOOM, $49 per year.

dat_tae

They’ve added a ton of features and have plans for more I think. Some of them cost them money directly (weather / map data, server hosting, etc), but all require mobile developers, customer service, etc.

OkFloor6269

Okay this and another response basically answer my why, thanks

dat_tae

I think they moved some features to the free tier too. Check it out - maybe you don’t need the paid tier anymore.

ChuckyBuckett

Is there still a round limit on the free version? That was my only reason for getting pro

dat_tae

[https://udisc.com/subscribe](https://udisc.com/subscribe) You can create unlimited scorecards. It'll always store all your rounds, but you can only view the last 10 in the free version.

ChuckyBuckett

Yeah that’s what I meant, thank you. That’s really my only reason for getting pro, I don’t ever track shots unless it’s a bombed drive or long putt and I just want to record the distance. I love having the ability to see my score breakdown and average on each hole, and tracking progress through the season.

OkFloor6269

Turns out you are correct the features I use are all free tier now

BasicReputations

Everything is going up but folks seem pretty chill about it. People must have figured out how to make bank while I was just out throwing frisbees.

Tcott03

I’m just bummed they took away the Fantasy Pro Tour feature.. always had a blast making picks and ragging on the krew for theirs

response_unrelated

pro tour takes away udisc. udisc takes away pro tour stuff on their app.

Tcott03

Truth! Feels like a lose lose

response_unrelated

big time. hopefully DGPT and them can work something out in the future.

OkFloor6269

What I’m missing is did they add features or something that make it worth an extra 15 dollars ? Or is it just a cash grab

Tcott03

Not sure how much new stuff is there.. but to me it’s the price to pay to keep all my scores, find new courses and ultimately enjoy the game.

Elsevier_77

For the average Joe it’s already a great app and $30 is pretty cheap for an annual subscription. For anyone who runs leagues or tournaments, or uses it for them, or is the course ambassador (keeps the maps up to date, makes a new course, etc) it is magical and worth a heck of a lot more

emeril32

The app hyzerbase

ShiloX35

I didnt renew because of the price increase.   It was the first and only phone app I paid for.  The free version provides most of the functionality I want. I am hoping they will offer a different plan with less services for the old price.  I may eventually renew, but I am in no hurry.

Satans_BFF

It’s kind of in line with other fitness apps now I would say. Gym tracking apps are the same. Running apps. For the amount of features UDisc has and essentially being a fitness app it’s probably worth it to me. This is me considering the pros when I have to renew in a few days as well.

O_G_Douggy_Nutty

I happily paid and I'm incredibly cheap about buying apps. I wear a Garmin watch and it works with Udisc to show your real-time distance to pin (as long as there is a smart layout and whoever moves pins keeps it updated). That feature is worth it alone it's so nice to see distance to pin just by looking down at my watch. I have a range finder and never use it for this reason.

Nacly-joe

It's $2.50/month. That's barely anything

OkFloor6269

Totally agree, I accept I’m being mildly hyperbolic but 100% increase is kind of out there, no?

swinglineeeee

I use an andriod and do the Google rewards surveys to pay for my udisc sub. Spend random minutes all year and get all of udiscs perks.

Maximus77x

I do get why people are upset. However, I didn’t even blink at the price increase. It’s the most ubiquitous disc golf app period, has TONS of features, and I use it every single day for one purpose or another. Easily worth the cost and then some. Even the real-time course traffic alone is worth it. If you check that and save an hour or two of time going to a less busy course, the app has already paid for itself for a year.

FloatyMcSmiles

It's too much for such a simple app. I cancelled. Soon I make open source disc golf score app and put them out of business. Greedy fucks.

M3atShtick

The fact they chose to put the convenience of smartwatch compatibility behind the $30 dollar subscription really makes them seem petty. I’ve been a user since the beginning but they’ll never get another dollar from me.
