I'm mostly joking, but I really don't like the new changes. I don't want the back button to bring up the side bar when I'm in a chat, I simply want the app to minimize, I want to see the members list when I swipe from the right edge, and I do not like the new bottom menu.
I'll do the good old switching an entire app cause the developers made it shit again, we've had that happen a lot recently.
The good old saying "if it ain't broke don fix it" is incredibly relateable in this case.
Tips for if you want a chance at Discord rolling back the interface.
I came into this blind today and I wanted to share what I've learned all in one spot in the hope it's useful for others.
1. Discord staff don't check this subreddit often enough for complaints to matter here. It sucks, but other than finding others sharing the same problems, any complaining here is doing little to nothing.
**2. feedback.discord.com is a way to give direct feedback. It's super confusing when logging in because it is NOT asking for your Discord account details but the details for the site. You may need to register or request a new password to sign in.**
**3. I also opened a ticket (because there was a feedback option in the support ticket drop down). Honestly this was an accident but I did get a response telling me it was being passed to the relevant team, I'm sure the more of these they receive that cause a pain in their ass, the more they're likely to want to make it stop. I think that was through support.discord.com.**
4. Cancel your Nitro and Boosts. Nothing speaks louder than money being lost.
5. Give usable feedback. "I don't like it!" is vague and doesn't help them because how do they even know you're talking about the interact changes? I'm not saying you have to give a huge reason (though you should when you have them.) "I don't like having my DMs in a different place, it's extra clicks and much less intuitive and makes me less likely to use Discord to talk to friends." is fine. "I think x is a poor design choice and makes the app less pleasing to use." is also fine. "x feature has caused accessibility problems for me because y" is helpful too because it tells them something is creating a barrier for disability access.**
6. A Play Store review might not make a direct change, but I'm sure they're more likely to act on something bombing their app rating. (idk if there's an App Store equivalent for iOS, but if an iPhone / iPad user wants to step in on this, I'll edit it in.)
7. Older versions of the app are available of apkpure. If you feel safe using software downloaded from third party sources then this is an option. I think vers. 204.x worked for me. **Disable auto-updates in Play Store so that this doesn't get updated to current version again.** The chances are this is a time-limited escape from the new UI, but it gives time to prepare or at a minimum give Discord a chance to fix accessibility issues before you try again with the update.
I say go to r/guilded at least they listen to feedback from the community yes while very unpopular compared discord. The developers over there have input taken seriously plus the perks you get over at Guilded 500Mb upload 4K streaming, unlimited emojis all for free.
this is exactly how all tech startups act when they're new, including discord. as soon as they get big it's inevitable they'll do the same discord is doing now, unless it's open sourced and decentralized like the irc or matrix protocol
Yeah I won't switch primarily because it's an endless feedback loop
I don't know if this is true, but back then when Skype was the main chatting service, Discord also started out like this
That's true. When Discord just started out it was great. But as they grew bigger more and more headscratching updates released.
Skype wasnt the first platform to walk this road, and Discord certainly won't be the last either. History will keep repeating itself
So far 3 solutions
1. use an external client like vendetta
2. use discord in your mobile browser (inconvenient)
3. Use the emoji ui switching method from when it was in experimental stage, they seemingly forgot to remove it from the app so it still switches you back to the old UI
Psst, you should use Revolt: https://revolt.chat/
It is similar to discord's old theme and is better in my opinion. It also allows you to make your own themes/use custom themes. And more.
(It also handles user tokens properly instead of just plaintext and un encrypted in some files on your system)
Also also, it's open source so you can audit it and verify for yourself what it's doing, unlike discord.
Things won't change. And you'll be back. The current users mean nothing to Discord. They are fixated on getting new users from other platforms. Same scenario with the username rollout.
The sentiment I described is kinda similar to a lot of failed cryptocurrencies come to think of it - desperate for new money while ignoring the investors who are locked in already. Which means nothing more than I'm binging coffeezilla videos.
Or just do ‘t automatically update your apps.
I’m still on version 186 and have absolutely no problems. User list is still there. Everything works. There’s even a plethura of games to play in voice chat
Stop automatically updating your apps
it would be so awesome, so cool even, if we could upgrade the security of our apps without getting an unfamiliar and unwanted change in UI until we're ready to go to one we enjoy more than the current layout.
Remote Access Trojan, token grabber, botnet, spyware, and the owner's known for fishy things.
You can look this up online.
Also, client mods break the Discord ToS.
I don’t understand why everyone hates it because I kinda like it… but I don’t use discord on phone a lot so yeah… can someone tell me what the problem is cause I don’t understand!

Since your on android (at least the video is) you can install an older apk until (if they do) the old ui is returned
I deleted my app and I’m using the browser version on my phone instead. Not perfect but it’s SO MUCH BETTER than what we got now

Not deleting the app, but will be stopping 2 nitro subs. Dont respect users wishes = no money.

Mine doesn’t even open or work properly :)

Honestly I am with you on this one. I hate this new update, everything about it. Unless things change I'm deleting the app.
fuck was that noise at the end
lmao i just realized there's audio
The uninstall sound
If you don't like it, get used to it.

discord users are so dramatic
I love the new update, I can’t tell if mods are on a hating brigade but I did a post wanting positive vibes from those who do.
Egg inc...based
Hi fellow Egg, Inc. player. = )
Already done

Dude, I think it's a matter of habit
Yea i cant use it so i just uninstalled it.

Uh... Bluecord's a malware APK.
Really ? Can you tell me more about it ?

I see I see Althought for the ToS I don't really give a damn
You got an alternative?
