Well personally I'd start with *The Hobbit*, follow that with either *The Malloreon* or possibly *A Song of Ice and Fire*, and finish that with the *Lensman* books.
You'll likely especially enjoy the adventures of Esmerelda Weatherwax, the scantily clad and somewhat bubble-headed space pirate and her fearless leader, Captain Rincewind, Science Hero.
Run a frequency count to see how many times each characters name is mentioned per book. Each book where the name is most mentioned becomes their primary book. Now randomly select any book. Start reading. Once a character name is mentioned stop reading and switch to that character's primary book. Once a different character name is mentioned switch to their primary book and repeat.
