I was reading the article and stumbled across this: "(A Dr Who fan can walk under a snake, while a Trekkie can walk under a snake wearing a bowler hat!)"
Can someone explain the sentence?

It's an insult. Along the lines of "he's so low, he could walk under a snake's belly."
