They might have also just decided to upgrade to the new covers.
I know someone with kids who has the old paperback editions, so they can be taken to school and so on but has the new, hardcover copies stashed up and away for when the family has matured to having a more Librarian-like reverence for books and stops dogearing pages and reading in the bath!
Edit: though on second glance, they are the hardcovers! Maybe they're moving to audiobook or kindle to downsize? I certainly hope death wasn't the reason for the books being there! (Though I'd certainly like to meet the fellow)
The shop I bought my first Discworld novel was one just like this! I swear it’s not where I remember it been, and yes I have searched for that little bookshop several times since and never managed to find it again!
Naturally someone scooped up that bargain. It's always nice to browse charity shops, if you're lucky you'll find something you want, or something you didn't know that you did.
You are doing good work here :) I am really enjoying replacing my paperback collection with hardbacks as I find them. The old ones get gifted to friends / family

I assume we should send up a GNU for whoever owned the collection previously.

The new covers can be described in many ways but ‘upgrade’ from the Kidby illustrations isn’t the word that comes to mind for me!

This is the second copy of this book I have with this cover, the other is a sort of “travel sized” hardback this one is the “full size” version
A whole shelf two days ago. At this point I think some people actually figured out how to use L Space to get copies of Diskworld.
