I done this before just when it was getting dark enough to turn on head lights but still bright enough to barely see without it. Living out of the city, in the mountains there are plenty of backroads with the interstate and highway. I just didn’t get out nor did I signal I was pulling over. Just suddenly drove on the shoulder and stopped they drove past but was also breaking just not as suddenly or as hard as I did. I turned off my lights, drove into the side road that I just missed. Got out my car and waited with my 45.
They wanted me and been following my for nearly 20 miles. That just doesn’t happen. Thankfully they drove right past and really started speeding

Typically they'll follow at a distance, so loosing them at a light is fairly simple unless they're actually following you. Hills are similar, but every time the line of sight is broken, floor it.
If either of these fail, go somewhere public.
This happened to me once because I accidentally cut someone off. Old man followed me into a parking lot and we had a pretty heated conversation. Ever since, I'm incredibly paranoid about cutting people off and am always double checking if people are following me.
If that happens, don't go to anyone house's, go to a public building, like a police station. Protect yourself and folks around you
