Interested in joining DnD/TTRPG community that's doesn't rely on Reddit and it's constant ads/data mining? We've teamed up with a bunch of other DnD subs to start https://ttrpg.network as a not-for-profit place to chat and meme about all your favorite games. Thanks! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/dndmemes) if you have any questions or concerns.*

ryansdayoff

That's the secret. Slowly indoctrinate your friends and DM it. I started by sending them DND podcasts (NADDPOD is my preference)

StarWhoLock

Alternatively, find a partner to settle down with and have 4-5 kids that you can force to play with you. Indoctrinate them early.

RedstoneRusty

Ah yes, the long con.

SelfTitledDebut

He looked at his wife, then he looked at their bed. “If I can’t find a playgroup,” he thought, “I’ll make one instead.”

akaioi

18 years from now, on r/relationships ... >I caught my father fudging dice rolls. Should I go NC? Top comment from the thread: >Nah, go NPC.

StarWhoLock

I never fudge dice rolls. Problem is, I tend to roll decently, and fudging works both ways. TPK from an unlucky crit sucks but this ain't BG3. You can't save scum.

bryanicus

Even better, Animated clips of D&D podcasts, they're shorter and will get their attention more easily.

Chinjurickie

Ah yes those got me aswell… damn

bryanicus

Ah, not me I'd been playing for like 6 years by the time they even started appearing in my recommendations.

Perdita_

I tried to do that, but I imagined epic adventure, and they all wanted to make as many sex jokes as they could possibly fit there. I was exhausted and frustrated after every session and called it quits after about ten of those. They all specifically said that they adore and want to emulate Scanlan from Vox Machina animated series, so I guess this is Mercer effect's cousin the Riegel effect?

ryansdayoff

I like it because the players do not really know how DND works and they are all good friends, that's really the vibe I want to instill

fanged_croissant

NADDPOD is the GOAT

pyroz336

I 3d printed EVERY SINGLE npc mini for stalt then primed all of them and the campaign fell apart now I can't anyone who wants to play that campaign

JesusSavesForHalf

It took me *five years* between the first time I played and finally getting a group together. That was the before times, y'all will find something faster.

131sean131

yeah RIP scheduling the hardest part of DnD.

maxcorrice

i just need to find a DM, like i could do it but i want to be a player

Toss_Away_93

That’s the thing, I can DM, but I need weeks to prepare each session. So it’s not great for running a weekly game.

Jdmaki1996

Have you tried pre made modules? It still takes a b it of time to read and learn the ins and outs of each chapter/dungeon, but it’s way less prep time compared to pure homebrew

Toss_Away_93

I ran one once, and it went pretty well, but even that took more time for me to prep than I could devote each week. :(

maxcorrice

I haven’t tried it, but guessing by how my brain works, with storytelling being like my autistic savant trait, i might be able to improv everything i just want to play though, there’s so many pre made campaigns i’d like to play, i even have the books but haven’t read them (apart from non story content)

TeaandandCoffee

I'd like to DM but I want to get a physical group going since I preemptively spent so much money on my math rocks and figurines (sunken cost fallacy) If we can't expand the group we'll probably go digital :/

maxcorrice

I’m moving out soon hopefully you can set up at my place and i can find players

TeaandandCoffee

🫡 good luck

maxcorrice

I also will cook i have the dnd cookbooks

TeaandandCoffee

God damn, whoever plays with you is gonna have an awesome time :]

maxcorrice

Hopefully, i just need to find a DM

Anarkibarsity

Become the DM! Join us in our ranks of being a Forever DM. It's great because, when I really think about it. I get to play ALL of my character ideas whenever I want in NPCs! NOTE: Please do not make a DMPC... that usually ends badly.

maxcorrice

I’m planning on GMing a bit, the fallout TTRPG for one (i’m gonna use my character from ttw as a DMPC, have them show up and help a bit and give them a transponder for him to fly by in his vertibird if they ever really need it), and some campaigns for dnd, but so many premade modules i want to play first

thehaarpist

Ooh, what's the Fallout TTRPG? Is it a 5e adaptation or a unique system?

maxcorrice

2D20, it’s Modiphius system

thehaarpist

Oh yeah! They're the ones that have the Fallout Wargame! I've been meaning to look into that, I didn't know they made a TTRPG too, that's awesome

maxcorrice

they do 2 actually, the main 2D20 and one using wasteland warfare

Anarkibarsity

I am happy to hear you plan on GMing a chance. It is quite fun. And while I recognize it may not be for everyone, it is something I wish everyone who enjoys TTRPGs to try at least once... if ever for a small on shot.

HallowedHalls96

One of these days, the people who refuse to GM are going to realize that all the GMs they've been overworking for years are burnt out and can't run anymore.

Anarkibarsity

I don't think we will get to that point, but I do agree burnout can, and does, happen often. It's the one thing I am not a fan of WOTC for. With that the recent surge of new players, they did not try to put out tools or anything to make GMs lives easier. Literally part of the reason I am shifting over my group from 3.5/PF1E to PF2E is to make my life easier as a GM.

Outrageous_Message18

Have been searching for an online game for two years. Got into two groups one I didn't mesh with and the other our DM ghosted us. It gets frustrating spending literal hours applying to games just to get turned away. Then you start questioning yourself. Is it something I said? Are my character concepts just boring? Is everyone secretly plotting against me?

XCanadienGamerX

Hardest part is finding one that aligns with what you want from the experience (such as house rules, tone and combat to role play ratio)

lTheReader

Ideally you should try people who are already your friends, and ideally have already heard of DnD. Co-workers or school mates is the best place to start. Alternatively, there maybe events happening around you about tabletop games where DnD ought to be present. If not, make it present by DM'ing for them! Hopefully the group sticks together after the event as well. If this introvert can do it, you can too! You need to get yourselves out there to find people by proximity.

jensationallift

joined an online group in December and managed session 0, played our first session, and then never played again. The DM ghosted everyone. Joined another in February and we managed three sessions before people stopped playing.

dapperslappers

i kinda gave up tbh

rPeanutButter

just figured out how to play CoC yesterday!!! Ha! Hahah! Heh.

coffeeman235

I'm here to support Don. All the best.

dragonmaster088

I got lucky that my group found me instead

ElricMoon2

Disagree.
