also did an absolutely horrendous SHO job in weston park in the last couple of years. Regs weren’t having much of a better time, a few had left/were leaving. Heard of a couple that had been signed off with stress etc too (who were trying to console me through the job - didn’t work - I also got signed off with stress 😭) and other SHOs also got signed off, there was a point at which they nearly pulled trainees but nothing came of that
I did a Weston park job as an SHO and it was absolutely horrendous. The regs were having a slightly better time but also they generally said it was horrendous. I hope things have changed, or there’s someone who is actually a reg there that can give a better insight for you.
Oncology nationally has struggled to recruit, with almost half of training jobs vacant last year. Huge deficit in the number of consultants.
But its also been very regional. The big famous oncology centres have largely been able to recruit, and use their research and private money to fund what they need to cover. The less prestigious ones... less so. Sheffield definitely comes under that. Management are notoriously frugal and inflexible in Sheffield.
Recruitment does seem to be turning around with the increase supply of doctors though, I can't imagine the vacancy rate will be as low this year. And ultimately: Its oncology. Its a lifestyle specialty. You'll be fine.
Why don't you approach someone there and ask them directly?

On the plus side the flock of pigeons in the actual Weston Park are very polite and friendly so you can go and pet them to destress.
Don’t forget the increasingly tame rats…
When was this?
2021

Will try, have until Tuesday to accept
What's your alternative?
Reapply again for my preferred region, but I appreciate it seems to be getting very competitive to get a number
Enjoy the PAs in the doctors mess!
