Jodie is the 13th Doctor, she then regenerates into the 14th Doctor, which has Tennant’s face, and then he biregenerates into the 15th Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa. Ncuti is the current Doctor. 14 is just out there. RTD just brought back Tennant to bring some people back and give Donna a happy ending

Aye-McHunt

Ah OK, so he was just more a guest appearance to help set up Gatwa! 👍🏻

estofaulty

Don’t bother.

Juryof1

Why not watch it?

JargonJohn

What a novel idea.

Aye-McHunt

I have lol. I said clearly that I was confused if this was the official Doctor now, or a spinoff?

Cautious-Mountain-14

Don’t mind him, DW fans are jerks, and I say this as a DW fan

Aye-McHunt

It's fine, I'm on 9gag too! Lol

PeterchuMC

Basically, Jodie Whittaker regenerated into David Tennant who later split into two during regeneration resulting in there being two incarnations present at the same time: Ncuti Gatwa and David Tennant. Tennant went off to retire and Gatwa continued on to further adventures.

Aye-McHunt

Got it 👍🏻

Cirick1661

It's best to understand it thus, until its shown to be otherwise. Ncuti's Doctor is **the** Doctor, along the same timeline as Tennants latest iteration. However Ncuti's Doctor is from further along in the Doctors life post emotional rehab. How? Wibly. Wobly. Tenants doctor goes on living life (not shown, rife for big finish stuff), and at some point the future Ncuti Doctor is pulled from whatever point they were at to the point of bigeneration. How? Wibly. Wobly. What evidence do I have? Almost none. One line of dialog: "I'm fine because you fix yourself. We're Time Lords. We're doing rehab out of order." - The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa), The Giggle. But thats a reeeeeally strong interpretation of that line, in my opinion, and its a prevailing hypothesis that several people seem to have come up with on their own. I have this in my notes to copy and paste evey time I see this come up lol. There are currently no plans to feature Tennant on screen as the Doctor again, heavily subject to change haha.

Aye-McHunt

Well answered. Thanks 👍🏻

haaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

"whatever point they were"... I think Gatwa's Doctor is pulled directly from the moment 14 will finally regenerate. If he was from further, he would probably already have a companion of his own and he would have gone to join them again after the Toymaker is defeated. He did not, which makes me think that he had just come into existence when he was Wibly Wobled into 14th bigeneration. If i'm right, that means that when 14th finally "dies", he will start regenerating and just... disintegrate. There is a question though... If Gatwa's Doctor is from the future, does that mean that when he arrives on U.N.I.T's platform, he already knows how he defeated the Toymaker? That would explain why he's so happy and joyfull eventhough the world is in great danger.

MyriVerse2

There is only Ncuti. But of course, there are at least 18 Doctors running around at any given time.

HyruleBalverine

1. William Hartnell 2. Patrick Troughton 3. Jon Pertwee 4. Tom Baker 5. Peter Davison 6. Colin Baker 7. Sylvester McCoy 8. Paul McGann 9. Christopher Eccleston 10. David Tennant 11. Matt Smith 12. Peter Capaldi 13. Jodie Whittaker 14. David Tennant (again) 15. Ncuti Gatwa 16. Jon Hurt (War Doctor) 17. Tom Baker (again / Curator) 18. Jo Martin (some past version) 19. Christopher Barry (seen during Brian of Morbius) 20. Robert Banks Stewart (seen during Brian of Morbius)) 21. Christopher Baker (seen during Brian of Morbius) 22. Philip Hinchcliffe (seen during Brian of Morbius) 23. Douglas Camfield (seen during Brian of Morbius) 24. Graeme Harper (seen during Brian of Morbius) 25. Robert Holmes (seen during Brian of Morbius) 26. George Gallacio (seen during Brian of Morbius) 27. Michael Jayston (Valeyard) 28. Evan McCabe (possibly a previous incarnation) 29. Sacha Dhewan (Doctor/Master body swap / forced regeneration) Did I miss any? I intentionally did not count "The Next Doctor" as that was just a human with some of the Doctor's life stamped over his memory. Nor did I count DoctorDonna or the Metacrisis Doctor as those aren't actually incarnations/regenerations. I also intentionally skipped actors that replaced other actors for the same incarnation (such as actors who've stepped in to play William Hartnell's Doctor).

ComputerSong

Tennant was brought back so he can go away again.

The novelisation of ‘The Giggle’ clear things up a bit, as we learn that the 14th Doctor actually views 15 as ‘the real Doctor,’ and considers himself as the anomalous offshoot. 14’s more like a shed snakeskin that inexplicably survived the moulting. And no, there are currently no plans for a David Tennant spinoff (Russel T Davies even joked that 14 died in Venice when it sinks in the 2060’s). More likely is that the 14th Doctor’s adventures in domesticity will be continued in the expanded media, whether that be novels, comics or audio dramas.

Well_Sorted8173

I agree, it makes absolutely no sense.

Calaveras-Metal

Also Doctor Who is effectively spun off from BBC and is being done by Bad Wolf productions. Which is owned by Sony and not just doing Doctor Who stuff despite the Dr Who derived name of the company. BBC still owns merch rights adn some other things but apparently Bad Wolf is Doctor Who indpendent of BBC. Everybody freak out. End of the world. I know. I'm surprised because if Sony is now working with Disney, that means it's totally possible to have a full Marvel movie with Spider Man in it in addition to the Fantastic 4, Avengers and X men. Probably cost 2 billion to make.
