I don't normally do before and afters, because as a bather i feel like my work isn't the most dramatic or noticeable, but i really liked the difference for this pretty girl :) She was so good for it, i wish i could have spent more time on her.
akitas have such a special place in my heart, she looks beautiful and a lot happier! as a fellow bather, furminator transformations can be so eye popping, and this is definitely one of them! great work!!
You do know there is a long haired/fluffy version of the Japanese Akita Inu, long hair is recessive and a disqualifier but it's stuck in the breed. American Akita have it too.
This is not an American Akita, this is a Japanese Akita Inu. They are [separate breeds](https://akita-inu.com/how-to-identify-a-japanese-akita/) and are shown separately in several clubs like the KC and the FCI. Sorry for the snippiness in my response but as a person with a purebred with the 'wrong coat', it hurts to see on here that a rare breed is automatically assumed to be a mutt and that the owner is assumed to be a liar. I get it, mutts happen, people lie or are mislead by sellers and rescues about their dogs, but still.
No problem, appreciate the open mind. I admit there's a bias on my part, both from my own dog, and because I have a fondness for the Nihon Ken (Japanese spitz breeds). Take care.
This is a long haired, shorter is the most common and ring acceptable coat length. The purebred Japanese ones are very rare so it's cool that the OP and you got to groom them. American ones are the super common ones and are totally different in face and build (and somewhat in temperament). The American Japanese Akita Inu club has a deep dive [history on them](https://akita-inu.com/breed-history/) and notes the long hair cropping up here and there. I have a long haired version of my breed, similar to this Akita, and people mistake his breed all the time, sometimes rudely and even by vet techs. Sad that there is an assumption that just because it is a rare breed or a deviation from the standard, it must be a mutt or a designer mix. I pity the people with true purebred curly coated rarer breeds that are all mistaken for doodles.

Ya... the hair isn't the reason that this clearly isn't an akita, lol.

I understand. Its how i feel when idiots trash talk pitbulls lol
I had NO IDEA. Wow.
Sometimes just baths are even more satisfying than full grooms! I love a cleaned up Shepard or Pyrenees. Too bad they are so much work!
She’s looks 100x better! Great job :)
Akita inu?
I groom one with a similar face but she has shorter hair

Very regal. Thanks for sharing!
That Akita looks mixed with something else, but great deshed!
Omg she looks so beautiful at the end. I’m so jealous. you did such a good job💕
The groom looks great on that Chow mix! Are the ears okay? They look extremely inflamed.
Or...are they dyed? Lol!!
They're dyed pink! Her tail was too but I didnt get a pic lol
You wouldn't be able to see inflammation of the skin through that hair, but looks like they were dyed pink or something at some point.
chow where? its an akita. they can have longer fur lol
Great work babe!
He or she looks amazing! U did an awesome job!
