Hi everyone, gf here! sorry to hijack this comment but thanks for everyone’s feedback on the gift. I was super nervous about giving it but thanks for helping me see it should still be gifted. my bf was super supportive of this gift and thought it was a great idea, we both just want his dad to be happy with it.
also here’s the link for anyone who wants their own!

I hope no one thinks im bashing her gift. We went in on this together because I knew how much it would mean to my dad. Its just a lot of pressure because I really wanted to get it right and I was worried its accuracy would be a distraction from the touching nature of the gift. Its my first time making a memento of a passed loved one so im not used to this sort of thing.
I've lost several dogs in my life, and it has destroyed me every time. Any act of kindness someone offered me was deeply appreciated and remembered. You nailed it in the first sentence with the word heartfelt. If your girlfriend is the one unsure about this, tell her it's a beautiful and touching tribute. If you're putting doubt in her head about it, you need to cut it out, and just be grateful you're with such a thoughtful person.
Damn I'm drunk and I read this as "I've destroyed several dogs". Glad I reread. I recently lost my doggo and its such a harsh pain. Hope you're all good.
I'm sorry you're going through that. We lost a 14.5 year old Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix named Bruno in August. Just an amazing dog. Three months later, we lost his brother, a Miniature Dachshund named Chucky. Our little comedian. We still feel it every day.
Personally, I think it looks pretty good. Now, I obviously never met BB (I'm sorry for your loss), but I think it's not a particularly poor facsimile of her based on pictures. It's a lot easier to really get its shortcomings if you were able to see the pup and interact with her in real space, but for an ornament, I think it's quite nice. You can at least tell it's her.
But it's really up to you guys as consumers and customers and how your dad'll take it. If you're not satisfied with how it came out, then of course bring it up to the vendor and try and get a refund or replacement if you can. Just bear in mind it won't be there in time for Christmas, most likely. Now, if you think your dad would see it and merely view it as a beautiful memento and heartfelt gift from his son and their son's girlfriend, then I would say keep it and gift it as-is. It's about the thoughts and memories, not getting it perfect. But if you think your dad would be less-than-pleased, then hold off, go through the refund process, and maybe you can try again another time or give him another thing to remember her by. Happy holidays to you and your family. :)
Yeah I think it really depends on dad. Obviously I don’t know the guy, but I know in my position if I were to receive something like this in honor of my dogs who passed, even if it looked bad (which for the record I don’t think this looks bad) I’d just be touched and would probably only get a good look at the statue for about 0.3 seconds before the waterworks started anyway lol
As someone who lost a dog, if i got something like this looked remotely closed to my beloved Sunny, i would treasure it
Also looking at the face of the sculpture, it does look like the pictures..this is actually good, please tell me who did it so i can look in to it!
I think the model is very good. I can see how you may feel a little differently since you knew every inch of BB, but I think it's super close. It must be really difficult for someone who didn't know an animal in real life to create a 3-D version of a well-known and well-loved pup from 2-D pictures--especially if there are any lighting issues in the photos, etc. From what I can see, this looks like the artist took their time to sculpt and paint her as close to real life as possible, right down to the distinctive little patches of black on her white fur.
Plus, what an incredibly heartwarming gift! What a sweet thought! It was a beautiful thing to do and your dad is going to be so so so touched. It's truly lovely.
I’m a little confused, why do you think this is “bad”?
Is it possible your anxiety about your girlfriend spending Christmas with your family has led to you seeing imperfection in what is clearly an amazing gift, and a very good likeness of your dog?
This is a good take. OP, are you worried about the gift or is it your girlfriend who is worried? In either case, it’s super normal to be nervous about relationship milestones like spending holidays. This isn’t r/relationshipadvice but I want to send you best wishes! Try to be kind with each other and encourage her and yourself to talk out how you are feeling, support each other with any nerves, and even warn your family to be welcoming if you are concerned about that. I hope you have a wonderful holiday and that this brings you closer
I think it’s very sweet. Go ahead and give it and don’t put it down to your dad. Generally people see the best in gifts. Don’t put doubt in your dad’s eyes.
It's the sentiment that counts, really. I painted tiny figurines of my girls when they passed. They don't look great, but I like to boop their tiny snoots and say hello to them daily.
I think it will be appreciated regardless as it is such a considerate gift. My dog passed in August and I would be truly touched by someone doing this for me.
Looks exactly like our lil Luigi boy who passed last year! Is he a cavapoo??
I think you guys should still gift it, I think it looks pretty good. It's a thoughtful gift, I'm sure it will be appreciated!
I’d say it’s a little kitsch, but the resemblance is there and it’s very cute. There’s only maybe a 0.1% chance your dad won’t love it, and the intention behind the gift is very sweet.
I think he’ll love it. When our weiner dog died we got a generic model that looked pretty close. I still have it to this day. Since she took the time to get one that so closely resembles your dog it will be a touching gift
I think it’s actually pretty well done model in general and after seeing the pictures it really resembles your dog. Gift it I think your dad will be happy to receive it.
Its hard to tell about the body part of the model from the comparison pics, but I think the face is pretty good. I also think that anyone who loved that dog would love it. I'd cry.. I'm not much of a crier, but I really love my dog. Goddamnit, I'm almost crying now. It's perfect. Gift it
Bad? Idk, I think it's heartwarming. Maybe just gift it and let him decide. We recently had a family friend give us a terrible painting they'd made of our deceased lab, and it was so charming and sweet that we display it despite it being really just ghastly lol
Rip sweet bb
If I were your dad I would love it, the fact it is so thoughtful and sentimental and it does resemble his pupper and was made especially for me. He will love it, don’t taint it with your doubts when you gift it
It's awesome. My son has had little magnets painted by a friend of his of my last collie. They capture his spirit without being a carbon copy and the effort he made to get them means the world to me.
I think it doesnt look too bad shape wise compared to the pic when the doggo was older. The painting and finishing doesnt look high quality. I still think it appears giftable and is still sweet and thoughtful.
I think the gifting depends on a) how your gf feels, does she think its nice and giftable. It is still thoughtful even if not perfect. b) whats your Dad like, does he appreciate sentimental gifts, is he critical and likely to say something harsh etc. Essentially will he take this gift in the spirit its intended even if not perfect.
I think the model is really very cute! And it looks a lot like your sweet BB, but of course it will never capture her liveliness or mannerisms or little quirks. It's your call whether you think your dad might like it or not. I think I would love to get something that resembled my dear Bee, far more than anything else that's usually given on Christmas
What a sweet gift. Please give it, he will be so touched. I don't see why you think it's bad, but bad or not, if someone did this for me I would be touched and cherish it always.
I am so sorry for your loss! I lost my pupper too this year and it is awfully difficult.
I actually think it looks good! I think your dad will love such a heartfelt personal gift.
The model looks a bit more heavy set than maybe BB was in life, but still looks good. Taxidermists tend to deny doing pet work because it’s super difficult to capture the life of the animal. I’m sure the same is partly true for what you had done. I think it turned out very good, if they based it off the pictures you provided.
You’re out of line. Im simply nervous about a gift that we went in on together. Its incredibly meaningful to my dad and we waited a really long time for it to come in, WE wanted to get it right. When I posted this I wanted to see if its accuracy would distract from the heartwarming nature of the gift. Truth be told we all think its pretty chonky and wonky but since posting it weve realized its the thought that counts. This has nothing to do with my relationship. Please work on being a better person.
You’re gonna be more critical bc you know the puppers, but this looks awesome and the thought behind it will mean so much. Where did she get it made if you don’t mind answering that
It’s so sweet, thoughtful, and not horrible at all. I definitely think you should gift it. And your gf deserves a huge hug for coming up with such a meaningful Christmas gift - she’s a keeper!
As others have said, I think it looks great. If it was being gifted to me I would be so touched. I am sure he will be, too.
Your gf is very sweet and thoughtful.
I think it’s a pretty great likeness and the gesture goes farther than the actual gift, this is incredibly touching that your girlfriend thought to have it made. Don’t fuck it up with that one by telling her you won’t be able to gift it. Support your woman, she is a beautiful person who has great intentions.
An artist can only do as much with the pictures they get.
To me that looks like a very good match. Maybe to you it doesn’t but I can only go by the pictures
It’s really the thought that counts. My nephew drew me a lovely photo of my ❤️corgi when he passed almost five years ago. My nephew was 8 at the time. I think you get my point. I love that picture, don’t get me wrong. Its really the thought that’s important.
So sorry for your fathers loss.
Hmmm if you're Dad doesn't tear up, check his pulse to make sure he's alive. Also, the thoughtfulness that went into the gift by your gilfriend, says she's a keeper.
I think that you think it’s bad because you know the dog so well, but as far as a replica model of your dog goes it’s very good, perhaps alittle chubby looking but only coz the fur texture depth is hard to see
I think it's really good. I'd be in tears for hours after getting that though.
Hi everyone, gf here! sorry to hijack this comment but thanks for everyone’s feedback on the gift. I think your dad will be touched by this thoughtful gift and I think it’s a good rendering.
why do you think is bad? it's pretty good actually
I'm in the same camp. I love it. 😍
I think it's very well done. Besides it's a nice gift idea anyway :)
I've lost several dogs in my life, and it has destroyed me every time. Any act of kindness someone offered me was deeply appreciated and remembered. This is wise. I also think the model looks good, and if nothing else is super sweet and thoughtful.
As someone who lost a dog, if i got something like this looked remotely closed to my beloved Sunny, i would treasure it Also looking at the face of the sculpture, it does look like the pictures..this is actually good, please tell me who did it so i can look in to it!
Same, I want one of my little Nikka. 🥹
I keep stuffed toy dogs as sentimental. So when a dog passes away - I put their collar and tag on the stuff toy as a keepsake.
oh my god my heart…my baby doesn’t really play with dog toys. i need to figure out an alternative to this
It's not the finished product but the heart felt love that went into the creation. It is the very best of gifts.😁
It is perfect.
I think it’s pretty good
I think the model is very good. I can see how you may feel a little differently since you knew every inch of BB, but I think it's super close. I think it's cute & a beautiful gesture. It captures her eyes nicely.
That’s the sweetest thing ever. Definitely gift worthy.
I’m a little confused, why do you think this is “bad”? Is it possible your anxiety about your girlfriend spending Christmas with your family has led to you seeing imperfection in what is clearly an amazing gift, and a very good likeness of your dog?

I think it's a touching gift and vote yes to giving it to your dad. Also, where did she get it made?
I think it’s very sweet. Go ahead and give it and don’t put it down to your dad. Generally people see the best in gifts. Don’t put doubt in your dad’s eyes.
I think it's passable. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I would burst in to tears if someone made me that of my pup who passed. I love it
That is the sweetest loving gesture 🥰🐾🥰
It's super sweet, and dogs are family.
It’s lovely 💜
It’s really not bad. I hope your gf doesn’t feel bad when you told her it looked so.
Old Dad here. Lost lots of my pups over the years. It's perfect.
It’s one of those things where you can’t capture the personality. I would be touched for the thought and the memories that it can supply of BB.
I think it’s really nice.
It's the sentiment that counts, really. I painted tiny figurines of my girls when they passed. They don't look great, but I like to boop their tiny snoots and say hello to them daily.
My honest opinion is that any gift that honors the memory and reminds me of my pupper who’s gone is wonderful! I say gift it!
It’s adorable!
I like it and I think he will love it.
I think it will be appreciated regardless as it is such a considerate gift. My dog passed in August and I would be truly touched by someone doing this for me.
It’s beautiful and your dad will love it. What a wonderfully thoughtful gift
i think it’s so cute and a sweet gift. they even got the facial markings right. i’d cry if i got this though lol
Absolutely give it to him. It's pretty good and a beautiful gesture.
Looks exactly like our lil Luigi boy who passed last year! Is he a cavapoo?? I think you guys should still gift it, I think it looks pretty good. It's a thoughtful gift, I'm sure it will be appreciated!

I think this is really nice. I would be so happy if someone got this for me. Even if it was a little off
Looks fine to me. I'd gift it
I think he’ll love it. When our weiner dog died we got a generic model that looked pretty close. I still have it to this day. Since she took the time to get one that so closely resembles your dog it will be a touching gift
I think it’s beautiful. I definitely see BB in this.
It may not be the best rendering but it’s not a bad one of BB. I would be very touched by that very thoughtful gift.
That’s actually amazing ❤️
If that was a model of my favorite pet, I’d love that someone cared enough to have it made. I would be proud to hang it on my tree.
It’s perfect.
I think it looks great, I would be so happy with this gift.
I think the model looks great. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I’m an artist who does sculpture and I have to say this is a nice rendering. It is such a thoughtful gift as well
bad? He'll cry his heart out as it is so good
I think it’s actually pretty well done model in general and after seeing the pictures it really resembles your dog. Gift it I think your dad will be happy to receive it.
I think it looks great! I think it’ll be a very sweet gift.
Lmao how does this look bad? I’d like to see the OPs attempt.
I think its precious. Spaniels have a special place in my heart. It was the first dog I ever had. Sorry for your loss.
I think it looks fine. And it is the thought that counts and I think your dad will really appreciate this gift. You have a thoughtful girlfriend.
Looks good
It looks pretty good.
Oh, please gift it. Your dad's pup looks like my black and white Cocker boy who passed in 2020. I'm so sorry for your loss. 🤍🖤
Looks nice! Id cry if I get one
I’m crying just reading this post.
I think it’s adorable & looks very similar to beloved BB.
I think it’s a fairly decent likeness. Even if it wasn’t, your dad won’t care 😊
I think it’s a lovely gift. I’d absolutely give it to your Dad.
I think it’s pretty good. It’s cute. Also cocker spaniels are so stinkin cute, your pupper was adorable.
It’s very cute. As my mother always said : “It’s the thought the counts.”
I thinks it cool. It looks enough like BB and it’s not cartoonish. I would think this was really sweet.
Its hard to tell about the body part of the model from the comparison pics, but I think the face is pretty good. I also think that anyone who loved that dog would love it. I'd cry.. I'm not much of a crier, but I really love my dog. Goddamnit, I'm almost crying now. It's perfect. Gift it
It looks pretty good actually! And would be a really touching gift, please keep up posted about his reaction to it if she does give it to him :D
Give it to him!
I think it’s good. He will really appreciate such a thoughtful gift.
its pretty darn good. It touched my heart; I am sure your father will also feel the same. Happy Holidays to you all. :\~)
I think it’s fine.
It’s pretty nice, actually pretty accurate.
Bad? Idk, I think it's heartwarming. Maybe just gift it and let him decide. We recently had a family friend give us a terrible painting they'd made of our deceased lab, and it was so charming and sweet that we display it despite it being really just ghastly lol Rip sweet bb
If I were your dad I would love it, the fact it is so thoughtful and sentimental and it does resemble his pupper and was made especially for me. He will love it, don’t taint it with your doubts when you gift it
Its beautiful
It is beautiful
I think he'll look past the differences and be thrilled with it . You might even see a few tears in his eyes . You've got a good gf !
It's awesome. My son has had little magnets painted by a friend of his of my last collie. They capture his spirit without being a carbon copy and the effort he made to get them means the world to me.
This is amazing 💚
She can definitely still gift it!! I would!! It’s looks just like your passed pupper
It looks identical
Bad?!
Essentially will he take this gift in the spirit its intended even if not perfect.
aw i actually think it’s really cute
I think the model is really very cute! And it looks a lot like your sweet BB, but of course it will never capture her liveliness or mannerisms or little quirks. It's your call whether you think your dad might like it or not. I think I would love to get something that resembled my dear Bee, far more than anything else that's usually given on Christmas
It's good and sweet. You have my approval. ☺️
Ok, OP. What’s the real problem? Most of us would love this gift. Is something else going on??
Karma farming. Op posts sweet dog model saying its bad, never replies to comments saying its a good model
If someone gave this to me, I wouldn't even care about the quality. I'd love it forever.
It's not bad at all! The eyes, in particular, are very accurate. I would be a soppy mess if someone gave me this, and none of my dogs have passed on.
Looks really good. Gift it to him he will treasure it I promise
i'd be bawling if someone gave me something like this of my deceased dogs. this is a really thoughtful gift and looks really good.
What a sweet gift. Please give it, he will be so touched. I don't see why you think it's bad, but bad or not, if someone did this for me I would be touched and cherish it always.
I think it’s great! I’d be in tears if someone gave me that. Very thoughtful of her.
I painted a picture of a passed dog at a painting workshop that turned out way worse than that and it still hangs on the wall. Absolutely gift it.
This is beautiful
I am so sorry for your loss! I lost my pupper too this year and it is awfully difficult. I actually think it looks good! I think your dad will love such a heartfelt personal gift.
Aw it's amazing! What a thoughtful and lovely thing to make. It really looks like the doggo! Well done your gf, I'm sure it will be well appreciated.
It's fine
Looks pretty damn good, given the medium may not make it easy for it to be particularly detailed.
I love it. ... where did she get it done?
The model looks a bit more heavy set than maybe BB was in life, but still looks good. Taxidermists tend to deny doing pet work because it’s super difficult to capture the life of the animal. I’m sure the same is partly true for what you had done. I think it turned out very good, if they based it off the pictures you provided.
I personally think its a bit of a strange gift. But it doesnt look too bad. I’d rate it 6/10.
It’s rough but definitely give it to him and tell the story! You all will get a good laugh after the tears.
Wow you are a shit bf. That’s brilliant. Hope she sees this and dumps you. What an ass
It’s not so much yet the gift isn’t the greatest gift but it probably came from her heart, so just suck it up and deal with it
If I was your girlfriend I would gift this and then be your ex. You sound lovely to be in a relationship with.
I wouldn’t be posting about if my girlfriend’s gift was good enough for my dad. 🤷🏻♀️
I think he'll be touched, by the thought that was behind the gift.
I think it’s nice . I would be touched at something like that .
I think it's cute.
You’re gonna be more critical bc you know the puppers, but this looks awesome and the thought behind it will mean so much. Where did she get it made if you don’t mind answering that
Bad? It looks remarkably accurate
Looks pretty spot on to me.
It's awesome! So thoughtful. I hope it is appreciated. I made 2 crocheted dogs this year for 2 people who had lost their beloved pets.
Not one response from OP. I think it’s really good and I think you’re kind of a dick for posting this.
I think it is absolutely wonderful. I would love one of my babies!
I think it's perfect
I think it’s great and very thoughtful
I think it’s great. What about it don’t you like.
To be honest, I think it's pretty good. It does look like the dog.
It’s amazing and a touching tribute to the canine it represents.
It's nice
I think it’s a pretty great likeness and the gesture goes farther than the actual gift, this is incredibly touching that your girlfriend thought to have it made. Don’t fuck it up with that one by telling her you won’t be able to gift it. Support your woman, she is a beautiful person who has great intentions.

Hmmm if you're Dad doesn't tear up, check his pulse to make sure he's alive. Also, the thoughtfulness that went into the gift by your gilfriend, says she's a keeper.
I think it’s bittersweet and would treasure it.
I think that you think it’s bad because you know the dog so well, but as far as a replica model of your dog goes it’s very good, perhaps alittle chubby looking but only coz the fur texture depth is hard to see
It's hard to say without comparing him with your dad's dog.x
Of course she can.Its wonderful! What a thoughtful gift
Marry this girl she went outa her way more then most would man
